Boutique Hotel Asterisk, a family run hotel

This was a nice hotel located near the museums of Amsterdam. The room was comfortable and quiet. The hotel does not offer breakfast and does not have a restaurant. There are plenty of restaurants in the area but very little for breakfast. The hotel is very close to the metro and other public transportation options.

What a beautiful, spacious room! Great location, slightly away from the busy centers so you can rest, but close enough to jump right in when you’re ready! Very close to easy transport that takes you right into Dam Square and Central Station. I came in from the train and it was very easy to get to the hotel from public transit. One word of caution, the building is older so there is only 1 lift (small) and very steep stairs. Would not recommend for ADA.

The downstairs large room with coffee was ideal to visit and bring in our take-out meals.

In a quiet residential area and yet we were close enough to nearly everything to walk. Excellent reception staff and someone available 24/7. I have Parkinson’s and they went out of their way to help me. This included assistance when I found the heavy doors hard to cope with including coming to take my case and other things down to the taxi in the early hours of the morning. We stayed not in the main part of the hotel but in a separate house next door and it would have been helpful to have had disposable cups with lids to take coffees and teas back up to our rooms from where the drinks machine was situated in the lounge area in the main hotel. The “honesty” bar (you simply told them at check out time) where by you were responsible for paying for drinks, snacks, sweets taken during your stay seemed to work well certainly from a guest’s point of view, saving a lot of time and aggro. A bowl of fruit would have been nice alongside the crisps and sweet snacks also a jug of iced water by the coffee machine particularly in hot weather. I had “comfy” single room which gave me just a bit more space, well designed wardrobe and shelving unit containing: safe, fan, simple light weight hair drier. kettle usual drink supplies (though no biscuits) and cardboard cups (environmentally friendly but not very tasty - better proper mugs and glasses.) Spacious bathroom with good sized walk in shower, worked well mixing hot and cold water so no fear of getting burnt or frozen! Good value.

We added an extra day on our reservation and I submitted a review for that timeframe. This was a lovely hotel in a quiet area with access to the metro. The front office staff was friendly and very helpful. The staircases and elevator are very tight in case that’s a problem for you. Great place. Would stay again when visiting Amsterdam.

GREAT location! Near Metro and tram, close to museums, and convenient to the airport. Friendly staff. Had an elevator. Have to get breakfast outside the hotel. Good value for money in high season.

Charges for all extras including coffee. Decent shower but only hand soap and shampoo, nothing more. Reception staff was helpful regarding local dining locations and tram operations. Room rates are comparable to other higher end properties on our European holiday.

This hotel is close enough to walk downtown Amsterdam and walk to the museums--it's in the middle between the two. It's also very quiet. I liked how the building has not been over-maximized because below my window was a first-floor green rooftop and a little backyard. One has the feeling that the hotel building maintains its original architecture. The elevator was helpful. I also appreciated that they have a large locked room to hold luggage on the day I checked out.

Very clean, close to museums and public transportation. Staff is very friendly.

When I arrived to the hotel for check in the sheets in my room were covered in stains and hair. They did change them for me, but I felt disappointed by this lack of cleanliness. The room was also significantly smaller than it appeared in photos. I could only open my smaller suitcase on the bed and in one small corner of the room. I felt as though this was not worth how much I paid.

Centralized and easy to get around by walking but we didn’t love that there’s no AC because the room can get quite hot. There was a fan though in the room.

The room was very different than what was shown on the website. Barely room for one person let alone 2 traveling with suitcases and back packs. Tiny desk pretty useless for any work.

It's in an excellent location, close to sites, restaurants, and subway station, yet quiet. The room was clean. The only thing is it does not have air conditioning. Even with the window open on 3rd floor, it was still quite warm at night. This was late August.

Hotel Asterisk was a great find! The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The location was perfectly situated on a beautiful residential, quiet street and just a short walk to everything. My room was, what I think was the smallest room in the hotel but was still comfortable and functional. It was very clean and nicely appointed. I do have two suggestions which did not affect my rating. First, since the room is so small, I suggest the desk and chair be removed and replaced with a chest of drawers. Second, I like the no shower door concept but that does not work for small showers. The entire floor gets wet and the bathroom door is rotting at the bottom. Otherwise, If the opportunity arises for me to visit Amsterdam again, I will definitely stay here! Thank you!

Great to have a lift. Close to trams, Metro and market. Pleasant outlook. Room small but adequate. Walls need soundproofing.

The staff at this hotel are amazing and very helpful. The hotel is close to the metro and tram system although many of the museums, shopping, and attractions are within a 10 to 20 minute walk. This is located in a quiet area as well. The room was very clean and spacious with a nice carpet rather than hard floor that our other two hotels had. We appreciated the elevator to get our luggage to the third floor we were staying on. We would definitely stay here again!

Best customer service I’ve ever had at a hotel. They have 24 hr reception who help you with anything you need immediately. They even gave me a gift at checkout

The location, friendliness, cleanliness and room were all excellent. However, I would describe the hotel as a glorified youth hostel. I was given a room in a separate building on the street, which was unserviced by any staff. The rooms are small and thin therefore meaning you can hear everything and everyone around you. At after midnight, I was awoken by a french couple banging on doors and windows, having lost their entry call. They proceeded to sit in the hallway talking, laughing and eating loudly, waiting for staff to bring a new key. Due to the hotel's zero-staff policy, this key replacement took half an hour, meaning I had to personally confront the rude guests (TWICE) which should be the job of hotel management to control. This is therefore not a hotel for those on business or people wanting a quiet night's sleep.

FANTASTIC experience. The front desk was cordial from the very beginning and they took care of our questions and needs at all times. The owner and his family live on premise and we ran into them a few times and they were absolutely great people. This property is super close to metro and about 30 minutes from the airport. We took an Uber to and fro to airport. Very convenient. Highly recommend choosing this property!!

Jackhammer noises and road construction behind the property were added ‘benefits’ that awaited our stay. Since there was no mention of this in any description or communication, and the rate was comparable to other high-end hotels in the area, it was quite an unwelcome surprise. It appeared that half the street had been torn up, with more work continuing throughout the day. We were told the construction had just started, but since we booked the room the day before our arrival, it was hard to believe they didn’t know it was happening. Their remedy was: ‘So sorry, out of our control. All rooms are affected, so it won’t help to move you. We can offer you a beverage or a glass of wine. That’s it. Neither I nor my colleague before me has the authority to offer anything else.’ Moral of the story: ask about the situation before booking. This ‘family-run’ hotel—whatever benefit that’s supposed to imply—might mean you’ll be treated like anything but family.

Everything about my stay was wonderful! The front desk was available 24/7 to answer questions and I sure used them. Super close to Metro, which I used every day and everything else was walkable ... if I come back to Amsterdam, would definitely stay here again!

Hotel Asterisk ligger mycket centralt på en lugn gata med närhet till både transporter, museer och en mängd mysiga restauranger. Rummet var stort och bekvämt. Servicen bra och vi fick en glas bubbel som välkomstdrink.

Hotel is perfectly located by the metro station in a quiet neighborhood only 2 stops from Amsterdam Centraal. 10-20 min walk to all museums. Nice and attentive staff. Luke’s coffee by the metro was amazing.

Wonderful hotel and wonderful family run staff. My only recommendation is that they have something available for breakfast; i.e. a fridge in the lobby with juice and yogurt - and/or have free coffee available downstairs. Breakfast restaurants are 10-15 minute walk away and didn't have fridge in hotel room to store food.

Loved this place - pricey for a solo traveller. I wish I had taken advantage of the highlights in the area. Would recommend to friends and family. No breakfast option was totally fine .. did not realize I could store things in their refrigerator if I decided to eat something light in. Too much to see and do in Amsterdam - would come back. Helt greit rom som lå i en annen bygning enn resepsjonen. Måtte ut på gate og inn en annen inngang. Fint med vannkoker på rommet, savnet kjøleskap. Det var ingen servering på hotellet, og det var ikke lett finne steder å spise frokost før kurset jeg var på startet (kl 9) Til den prisen og med den ratingen ble jeg skuffet. Det føltes som litt billige løsninger i dusjen og produktene som ble anvendt der. Vanskelig å pumpe ut shampo for eksempel.

Hotel incrível, super confortável, tudo conforme descrito no site é igual as fotos mostradas na página do Hotel.com. Recepcionistas super amáveis e fazem todo o possível para a comunicação ser tranquila. Durante a estadia tivemos welcome Drink + cafés e chás à vontade como cortesia. Além de guarda-chuva, pois lá não é raro vc precisar de um. Ah! Hotel super bem localizado, perto de muitas atrações e estação de metrô. Além de bares, mercados e restaurantes. No check out tivemos uma surpresa: Recebemos um Mimo de presente (lindo) do Hotel Asterisk que representa muito a Holanda!
