Had a great stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Beautiful views from the room, room was very spacious, and nice pool area. Only downside is the driveway is very steep and since it’s on the side of a hill, there are a lot of stairs to get down to the beach/town area.

The Marcela resort was an amazing destination in itself, with great food and beautiful surroundings, and a great pool area. It was relatively easy for two able-bodied people to walk to the Romantica Zone and back, as long as you are ok with a little exercise. The staff was exceptional, especially Oscar! I hope we are lucky enough to come back again!

Amazing place, highly recommend. Quick walk to town and beach. Suite was phenomenal with clean rooms, fully stocked kitchen and stunning views. We ate at the restaurant for many meals, great service and dishes were delicious. the front desk uses WhatsApp to communicate which I thought was very quick and convenient. The spa was also very nice. Overall would definitely visit again.

The view was amazing! Everyone we met was so nice and accommodating. The pool and bar area were lovely and the meals we had at the restaurant were good! There are a lot of stairs so be ready for that but Ubers we’re always available.

We stayed for 5 days at Marcela. What a gem! Small hotel, incredibly clean and spacious rooms. The views from your living area will blow you away!! Marcela gives you a vintage, unique experience. Lovely property on the hilltop. Two guest rooms per floor but you feel like the entire building is all to yourself. Incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Excellent restaurant food! 10 minute walk to the beach and half hour from the airport. Bring cash! Food & beverages are priced reasonable if not less expensive than the U.S. I cannot wait to return. We also ate at Kitty Cat and La Palapa down by the beach, but honestly the food at the restaurant is also well worth it. Thank you Marcela staff for an amazing experience!

First the pros: we rented a two-bedroom apartment-type set-up that was beautifully decorated in a Mexican folk-art type style: the views of the beaches and Puerto Vallarta were stunning. It's a large, spacious, comfortable setting. BUT the service leaves a lot to be desired. At least two of the days we were driven out by incredibly loud drilling and other construction noise, which went on most of the day. So much for being able to relax. No way to relax in the shower, as the water temperature was erratic and impossible to regulate. And the maid service apparently is only available in the morning, so if you feel like sleeping in and lounging around after cooking brunch in the well-stocked kitchen, you will not get your room cleaned or the towels replaced. I think we only got maid service once during the five days. Very bizarre policy. And speaking of towels, our place was very well stocked with towels of all shapes and sizes, but they make you sign a paper stating you will not take any towels to the beach. A cheap and aggravating policy, as then you are forced to buy towels at the beach or do without. All in all, all of these annoyances really add up.

Have stayed in 15 different resorts and condos in the last 10 years of going to Puerto Vallarta and this one is close to the top of the list. Place is quiet, grounds are beautiful, staff is wonderful and rooms are clean. We will return. Highly recommend.

I had the 1 bedroom bay view unit. It was like staying in a nice AirBnb but inside a resort. Pros: The view was beautiful and the grounds were immaculately kept. The unit was very clean and had exactly what you would expect, nothing more and nothing less. It is up in the hills above the party areas of Zona Romantica, so the nights were pretty quiet and you could sleep with windows open. I didn't feel like there were many people there, so often, it felt like I had the resort to myself. Cons: Mostly the prices. The room charge is a little on the high end, but also drinks were pretty expensive. The spa services were incredibly high, so I did not use them. I think they're cheaper if you book direct with them. I had dinner at the restaurant once, and it was fine, but I had much higher-end meals with more imaginative cocktails off the resort at about the same price. To note: A very busy street crosses in front of the resort. To get down to ZR, you have to cross it. From there, you can walk along that busy street down the hill, which didn't feel super safe, or you can go down a very long corridor of steps. You could probably call an Uber, too. You're technically close to ZR, but the trek makes it feel like you're not all that close to the party. If you're there for the night life, you'll want to stay closer.

My wife and I prepaid for an 8 night stay at Marcela and left after 2 nights to move to a different hotel and different part of town. Positives: friendly staff, large room more like an apartment than a hotel room, outstanding views of the city (we booked the top floor suite), reasonable kitchen. Negatives: Way too many steps to get down to the beach and food shopping, you must be in very good shape and willing to climb - we found it too inconvenient as I had a sore back, laundry worked but made loud noises and sounded like it was on its last legs, shower drain did not clear so water was a few inches deep by end of shower, communication with staff only through WhatsApp not ideal, noisy environment around the hotel while we were there, hotel pool excessively crowded. Overall nice large room and a great view, but because of location and lack of amenities we decided to go somewhere else

Great views and big rooms and spaces. Overall amazing property ground and pool area. If you are a full sun-lover, not the best as the pool has only partial sun in some spots etc, amazing of you like sitting in the shade and enjoying the view and pool etc, so it was perfect for us. 2nd BDRM in the 2bed suite (Hortensia/4) want great. Just a double and not that new or flat, so for an adult couple it would not be my choice next time, not to mention the window into the stairway which could be loud as ppl came home at night. Otherwise everything was great, living/dining/kitchen/laundry was all excellent. Main suite was big and beautiful.

The hotel is ok. We actually came on this trip to see if we wanted to stay here for Thanksgiving and are choosing another property instead. It is just not very polished, the pictures are definitely better than the reality. There were some noise issues as well as the rooms are all connecting rooms and the space underneath the door is quite a large gap as well as the doors being thin. One night the noise from a neighbor property was like a night club from about 3am to 5am. There was also an issue with the keys one day and they texted us - which was great but we had to leave dinner and uber back to the hotel because otherwise there would be no attendant on property and no way for us to get the new keys. Luckily our dinner wasn’t too far away. I wouldn’t say that we would refuse to stay here again but just think there are better options.

Upon first impressions the property is beautiful and the staff is very nice. A/C didn't seem to be working much at all. The A/C in the room didn't seem to work and it took about 5-6 minutes for the water to get even warm in the shower. The location is great in that it is close to everything in Zona Romantica, but very sketchy trying to cross the highway upon leaving the property. Also, the lack of an elevator or ramp to get out of the property is a miss as those steps do get old! Also the TV turned on but doesn't have smart tv capabilities and no cable, local channels, etc. Just a black screen. The staff gave some bad intel which unfortunately ruined one of my day's itinerary. All in all this could have been a great stay with a few small tweaks. Keep on working on those and this would be superb!

Our stay was good, the staff was helpful and attentive to our request. Hotel is a bit old but with beautiful views. It is away from the hotel zone and crowds. The only down part was the walking up and down hill to get to the beaches definitely not up for ppl with bad knees. Overall our stay was pleasant and a nice time there.

The location was great for anyone willing to walk uphill a little bit--easily walkable to all the restaurants and the beach, but just up the hill, so it's more peaceful and quiet. Facilities were great and very spacious, with the only negative being 1 of our 3 bathrooms didn't have shower curtains. The staff was super helpful and nearly always accessible via Whatsapp!

We had a wonderful stay at the Marcela Resort and Spa. Nobody in our group used the spa services but we loved everything about our suite. The layout was very functional and allowed us to have meals together as a family (8 people in total) and there were plenty of places where everyone could sit and relax either on our patio or at the pool. Having a dishwasher and laundry machines in the suite was so handy for a large group. Showers were a bit chillier than we're used to (hot water wasn't hot) but it just meant we didn't waste water! ;) The food at the Marcelita restaurant was exceptional and every staff member we interacted with were all very pleasant. Just be prepared to walk a lot of stairs! It was manageable for our group... however if anyone has mobility issues it would be impossible to get around unassisted. Overall, not the cheapest place you could find, but it was worth every penny for our family and exceeded expectations.

The room charge is a little on the high end, but also drinks were pretty expensive. The spa services were incredibly high, so I did not use them. I think they're cheaper if you book direct with them. I had dinner at the restaurant once, and it was fine, but I had much higher-end meals with more imaginative cocktails off the resort at about the same price. To note: A very busy street crosses in front of the resort. To get down to ZR, you have to cross it. From there, you can walk along that busy street down the hill, which didn't feel super safe, or you can go down a very long corridor of steps. You could probably call an Uber, too. You're technically close to ZR, but the trek makes it feel like you're not all that close to the party. If you're there for the night life, you'll want to stay closer.

The view was amazing! Everyone we met was so nice and accommodating. The pool and bar area were lovely and the meals we had at the restaurant were good! There are a lot of stairs so be ready for that but Ubers we’re always available.
