Holiday Inn Express - Gloucester by IHG

I have stayed at this location before it is in close proximity to my family. Everything was lovely EXCPT for onr glaring problem, I DID NOT HAVE HOT WATER FOR the 3 days I was there. It was no fault of the staffs but it could not be fixed while I was there.but I was given false hope several times. Sometimes it's better to aress it with you. under normal circumstances it is lovely there

Terrible, NO HOT WATER !!! After a long day and wanting a few hours sleep and a hot shower, awoke to NO HOT WATER. Not enough time to try and have them resolve. TERRIBLE START for the day. Next time, I'll stay at the Hampton INN next door (stayed there before with no issues)

The staff was absolutely fantastic but the hotel itself needs some work. The woman at the front desk got me sorted in no time despite Hotels.com failing to send the reservation to them. The elevator is quite rickety and the door doesn't close sometimes, requiring manual intervention that regulars seem to be aware of suggesting it's been like that for a while. When we got up to our room, our key card didn't work but come to find out the card reader just needed a new battery. Not only did the employee in the hall immediately notice we were having issues and offered to help, but he also then immediately informed the hotel of the dying battery and had someone up to replace it in little time. The room was fine although the A/C was a bit loud.

Elevator out of service at least 3 days. Tub and sink backed up.

It was great but the elevator was being repaired so we had to carry everything all the way up stairs and down. Also back door by stairs not always locked.

The entire property was without hot water both Saturday night 5/24 and 5/25. We were unable to take either a bath or a shower. We were left unsatisfied.

I will never stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Gloucester, Va again. The elevator was down the whole weekend and it was a very inconvenience for my mom who havs very bad asthma and uses a cane because she has very bad knees. Rhey couldn't give use a room on the 1st floor of the hotel because they had people living there. My mom had to walk up 2 flights of stairs and each flight had 15 steps, so she wasn't able to come back down to do anything the day we arrived. She was very upset. The refrigerator in our room was dirty, The pool was dirty also. I asked the front reception for compensation because of the inconvenience with the elevator and she said because you booked through a thrid party we won't be able to compensation you. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone.

1. No hot water due to a plumbing problem. 2. No discount due to Expedia booking. 3. Breakfast offerings were not edible.

The elevator sporadically worked.

The room was dirty. They did mop the floor as we did not have carpet and was sticky when walking. One wall had been washed in certain areas. I think someone had a big party in the room and it wasn't clean properly.

The room had an electronic window shade. It was broken. The side just hung from the top roller, and we could not move it at all. So, I don't know if we had a view or a patio. The broken shade let insight that we could not block leading to a bad night's sleep. I reported the broken shade immediately upon our check in. Ants in bathroom and sleeping room. Shower floor in need of a very strong scrubbing; yuck. We noticed that after we showered, the carpet OUTSIDE our door was soaking wet. Upon entering the room after breakfast, we almost slipped and fell. Not sure what caused the water, but it was terrible. After putting your foot down, you could see water around your shoe.

Hotel is starting to show its age but it is kept clean.

The room was very dirty. You could tell it hadnt been cleaned. Staff was amazing though. Even though for one night the room should be cleaned.

We were on the first floor. Our room felt extremely damp. I placed bath towels on the lvt floors so we would not slip. I saw there was a small dehumidifier in the corner that was not running, I opened the tank and it was full with water. I emptied it and turned it on. We had to run the air at an extremely low temperature to help keep the humidity down. I went to the front desk and told the older gentleman that was there about the humidity and dampness in my room, I requested more towels as we used them on the floors. He acknowledged what I had told him and gave me towels. When we came back from the wedding Saturday evening the beds were made, the damp towels used as rugs from the day before were still on the floor, and the dehumidifier had to be emptied, yet again, actually I had to empty the dehumidifier numerous time that evening. The sound of the machine was loud and because the air was running continuously it made for yet another uncomfortable night of sleep. Both my husband I woke with encrusted eyes and congestion Sunday morning, so we packed up at 7 and left. Today I'm still feeling the effects of this. Please see photos attached.

Ac did not work, ants in room, house keeping was like a kid did it! Beds not made, floors were not swept or cleaned, trash was not emptied towels and etc were not brought to room.

When we checked in and brought our belongings to our room I sat down at the desk and looked down and saw a bug at first I thought it was a cricket so I got a tissue to pick it up and when I showed my fiancé he said it was a cockroach, so we took it to the front desk and they proceeded to apologize and gave us another room, we moved our belongings from one room to the next that room had a smell of musty and pet urine mix, we were willing to give it a try since we had driven 6 hours to get there and hd plans to visit Busch Gardens, needless to say we spent the one night which I was unable to sleep because I was afraid bugs would be crawling on me. We checked out Saturday afternoon because we found 2 more cockroaches.

Pros: You can bring your dog for only $25 a night. The staff was friendly. Hot breakfast available every morning. Cons: The room was musty and smelled of mildew. Running the bathroom fan 24/7 and making sure the AC was running did not help. The walls had stains and the bathroom had beard shavings in the sink. If it weren't for the poor air quality in the room, the rating would be 1-2 stars higher.

We had a room on the first floor and the ceiling must be lacking insulation or some type of sound barrier because we could hear whenever someone was walking in the room or the hallway above us. We were not able to sleep. We did appreciate the friendliness of the staff.

Bathroom was falling apart.

The bathrooms were cramped, and seemed outdated. Stayed 3 days; and could not get more towels for the bathroom. They said they would bring them by but never got them. Potholes on the side roads leading to the hotel.

The room was a good size very spacious. I did find dirty linen in the bathroom. And the ac was crazy. It makes a weird sound off and on then cuts off

Because we were on the first floor near the exit door, I could hear people coming in and out all night . but the poor Customer Service was the room was never clean from Friday, June 27 through when we left Monday we were told they were short of staff when I saw the girls right next-door cleaning the room previous two hours the lock on the door was broken and I took pictures to that effect. The breakfast was decent. I was surprised no complaints there.

The Holiday Inn Express in Gloucester was very nice. The complimentary breakfast was delicious not to mention all of the options to choose from. The staff were very warm and welcoming. We enjoyed our stay and will continue to stay at this hotel when we visit family and friends in Gloucester.

Front desk staff friendly and accommodating. Staff person for mains breakfast was very nice and friendly.

Unfortunately, our hotel lacked proper servicing of rooms due to staff shortage the entire 13 nights of our stay. Well if they don't have the staff, then don't sell the rooms. We are in hospitality ourselves and their refusal to change our sheets or service our TWO rooms and the attitude is not acceptable. They are a hotel -- service your rooms. If staff is short and management is not there on the weekends, then maybe management should come in and clean the rooms themselves. That is what I have done when my staff is short

Your staff was not pleasant to deal with, going into my room without my permission while my kid was sleeping, we were on the dog side of the hotel but still supposedly was told our dog barked a lot so we were told to leave had compaints supposedly - will not stay here again

No never saw a front desk person during my entire overnight stay including when I checked out. I just left my key on the front desk. The breakfast was terrible, especially after getting my hopes up based on the labels on the wall of eggs, bacon and sausage. What I ACTUALLY got was corn beef hash, soggy fried potates, something that looked like chuckwagon (breaded) sausage patty, and what tasted like powdered eggs. It's possible that latter were real, but I just had really nice scambled eggs at a competitor hotel the day before which were much better. The cinnamon rolls were as dry as hard tack. The ironic thing is there was a "mother hen" personality supervising the breakfast and I suspect she thought everything was wonderful because it was "her breakfast." If I hadn't found the small fridge in one corner of the breakfast area because another guest was getting things out of it, I would have starved. There were hard bioled eggs and cream cheese for the bagels in there. I got some coffee from the lobby when I checked in and had to take it to my room to heat it up in the microwave.

Excellent stay! Friendly staff, quick check in and comfortable room. Standard Holiday Inn Express breakfast and amenities, and you can walk just a few feet to Chipotle :)

Close to many places to eat. Lots of history in old Gloucester.

Comfortable, clean, and convenient

Very convenient to everything I was in need of and in between my friends homes - so I was right in the middle . Very pleased with my stay .

Quiet, Comfy and Clean. Excellent breakfast buffet - probably the best I've had anywhere, including another Holiday Express. Staff is pleasant and efficient too. One small complaint - the entrance off the highway is extremely hard to find - just a low sign well back from the road edge and overwhelmed by the Wendy's out front. We circled the area several times before we spotted it, even though our GPS kept telling us we were there.

Disappointed Stay – Not Up to Holiday Inn Express Standards We’ve stayed at several Holiday Inn Express locations during our trip, and this one in Gloucester, VA, was by far the most disappointing. The property is clearly older and in need of updating. Our room smelled strongly of pine cleaner—almost like sawdust—and the carpet was grimy underfoot. The bathroom was unusually small, even for a budget hotel. Breakfast was where things really fell apart. The staff member in charge was sitting in the dining area, wearing her kitchen hat, eating her own meal and chatting loudly with a friend, while several food stations were neglected. The juice machine had a layer of congealed juices under the cup holder. the coffee was lukewarm, and the pancake machine produced something closer to cardboard than food. Most items were unappealing or inedible. This experience left us questioning the consistency of the Holiday Inn Express brand. We’ll be checking out the Hampton Inn next door and likely staying there next time we’re in the area.

amazing breakfast, friendly and efficient staff

Pros, every staff member we encountered was extremely nice and personable especially Lauren. Hotel was clean, bed comfortable as usual which is why we only stay at Holiday Inn Express. Cons, low on toilet paper, towels were thin. Breakfast was typical of free hotel breakfast but there was mold on bagels, pancake machine was broken, no fresh fruit. But easy to find something to suit instead. For the price, it was well worth it and we would stay there again.

Staff was friendly and i liked that they had some different breakfast options each day instead of the same thing every day like a lot of other places

This hotel serves a nice breakfast buffet with fresh food and numerous hot items in a clean serving and dining area. The room was comfortable, towels and supplies were easily obtainable, and everything worked properly in the room.
