The staff is very helpful, he helped us grab luggages to storeroom when we came early. And we appreciated how they take care of our shoes when we leave the hotel and back. The room was the most Japanese style ever for all hotels we stayed during the trip. I love the water streaming decoration outside bedroom, it made me calm and relax. The hot spring was unbeatable, the only regret was I was too late to book the outdoor ones.

Amazing stay. At the end of the Togetsukyo bridge close to a number of eateries. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Appears it was only stairs with no shoes in the hotel. Had a river side view with personal hot bath.

Very friendly team! Everyone remembered us and provided a very warm experience for our honeymoon. We opted for the dinner kaiseki which had so many courses full of seasonal freshness, textures, and tastes. The onsen was a very relaxing experience as well. It was a very nice location to stay at while exploring Kyoto. We appreciated the relaxing atmosphere of the countryside. There is also a small town area near the ryokan which provided a few dining and shipping options. Multiple train stations are also nearby.

We wish we stayed longer! From entering, everyone was so welcoming and helpful. We stayed 1 night but the room was one of our favourite parts of the entire trip. The rooms were comfortable, lots of space and the open air bath in the room was amazing. If we find our way back to Japan, we will definitely come back. We did not use the other baths in the facility due to us having tattoos but the room was enough. I’m sure they were just as great!

Issues: - Bathroom was covered in mold and bathroom smelled like mold. - Toilet smelled terrible - No soap in bathroom - Wi-Fi doesn’t work - Dinner was inedible and left halfway through. Felt sick after eating the small amount we did eat. - Don’t dare to try breakfast

This was such a beautiful place. It is 100% worth it for the private onsen with the stunning views alone. My partner and I had a wonderful time just spending the evening in our room. It’s right beside all the main tourist attractions of the area so they’re all walkable and the bus stop is right beside the hotel making it easily accessible. The staff is also very kind and goes out of the way to ensure the best service. The traditional beds were a bit hard to sleep on per western standards but the rest of the room made up for it. If youre afraid of bugs though you might not enjoy it as there were many cobwebs and bugs on the balcony area where the onsen is.

Room was clean and comfortable, cost was reasonable, and staff were hospitable. And you can also rental yukata. One thing that was little shame was dining service. We had thought room dining service, but dining service were offered in their own restaurant. Of course, dining was good quality and very delicious. So, i think that pre-mentioning about dining service would be better for both host and tourist. ※ There are no smoking place in and around accomodation. I guess that Arashiyama is non-smoking area.

The staff was wonderful and treated us extremely well from the moment we walked in the door. We stayed in the Japanese style room with semi-open air bath. It exceeded all my expectations. Very spacious room with an absolutely beautiful view of the river and mountains from the room and bathtub. Spent a lot of time relaxing in the tub and also tried out the onsen at the hotel. Staying here was definitely the highlight of our trip so far. We splurged on this hotel room as it costs way more than the rest of our lodging during our trip but we are so glad that we did. The location is fantastic for a relaxing stay in Arashiyama away from the bustle of the city. I would absolutely stay here again if I return to Kyoto in the future.

My boyfriend and I had a beautiful experience! Our room was huge and had comfortable individual futons on the floor. We reserved a private outdoor onsen bath that was on our balcony. It was best enjoyed at nighttime under the stars with a great view of Kyoto from high up. The staff was friendly and accommodating and took the time to make sure we were comfortable and satisfied. We received welcome tea and a snack then had a multicourse dinner and a traditional Japanese breakfast in the morning, both in the dining hall. (Groups have separate tables but are in one large room, restaurant-style.) We were both given yukatas (one for wearing to meals and one for sleeping) and although we tried watching several YouTube videos on how to properly tie them, it was a challenge and I don’t think we got it right. Luckily, nobody made fun of us or gave us strange looks. :) A ryokan is a unique and traditional Japanese experience that I highly recommend researching ahead of time so you’re aware of how things work, what customs to abide by, and what to expect. That said, the staff was happy to answer questions we had. We hope to return here with our future children someday, as they have family options available, too!

I think very carefully before leaving a bad review. It\'s been 3 weeks and we still feel the same way so here are my comments: We booked this Ryokan for 1 night last minute and got it for the "bargain" price of $401 USD. It was supposed to be a Mountain View room with a private soaking tub on the patio in a hotel that advertises natural hot spring water. What we got was a room overlooking the street in the Mountain View Building, a teeny tiny bathtub that you fill up with tap water, also overlooking the street. The spring water was downstairs. Not what we wanted though since it was raining, and we were looking forward to spending the day together privately. Check in was quite late in the day and checkout was 10 a.m. In general the building was in dire need of updating. I know what a $400 a night room should be like and this was most definitely not it. All in all, it was a very poor value.

This is an awesome place to stay. We had our own en-suite onsen and a waterfall. We loved the minimalist Japanese decor and enjoyed sleeping on the comfortable mattresses on the floor. A wonderful ryokan experience!

Amazing service and room. On check in, service desk has kindly inform us that our original room has an issue with the private bath and that they are still working on it. They kindy offered us an upgraded room which we happily accept. Turns out the upgraded room was so amazing that it left us with the best impression of what Japan has to offer. We are grateful for Togetsutei’s amazing hospitality.

You can’t beat a hot soak while looking at the mountains. The staff were excellent. No difficulties even with the language barrier. I love this hotel!

Amazing Ryokan experience. Our shoes were even warmed on one of the days. They even provided ice water for after the onsens. Definitely recommend splurging for one of the rooms with the in room private bath.

The staff was so wonderful and everything was absolutely beautiful. It was like stepping back in time and the way it was decorated and the experience herereally was a highlight in our trip. I would recommended highly. The location was amazing. It was around the corner from the monkey park and three blocks from bamboo forest. I absolutely adored this Ryokan.

What a great ryokan! Excellent service, luxury traditional experience with unique matcha tea ceremony each day. All of the staff so friendly and really made the birthday holiday extra special. Evening meals and breakfasts were so big and luxurious with lots of courses in the traditional kaiseki form. They were very tasty and even accommodated my vegetarian request. They provided traditional outfits to wear too. Highly recommended all round, hope to be back again soon.

We opted for the dinner kaiseki which had so many courses full of seasonal freshness, textures, and tastes. The onsen was a very relaxing experience as well. It was a very nice location to stay at while exploring Kyoto. We appreciated the relaxing atmosphere of the countryside. There is also a small town area near the ryokan which provided a few dining and shipping options. Multiple train stations are also nearby.

This was such a beautiful place. It is 100% worth it for the private onsen with the stunning views alone. My partner and I had a wonderful time just spending the evening in our room. It’s right beside all the main tourist attractions of the area so they’re all walkable and the bus stop is right beside the hotel making it easily accessible. The staff is also very kind and goes out of the way to ensure the best service. The traditional beds were a bit hard to sleep on per western standards but the rest of the room made up for it. If youre afraid of bugs though you might not enjoy it as there were many cobwebs and bugs on the balcony area where the onsen is.

Amazing stay. At the end of the Togetsukyo bridge close to a number of eateries. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Appears it was only stairs with no shoes in the hotel. Had a river side view with personal hot bath.

The staff attended to all of our needs and requests. They were so kind and helpful. The Kaiseki dinners and breakfasts were beautiful, various and delicious. The outdoor spa was a perfect way to end each day. Thank you to everyone at Togetsutei for making my son’s and my stay so wonderful in Arashiyama.

Worst stay I’ve ever had. We left after one night even though we couldn’t get a refund. Issues: - Bathroom was covered in mold and bathroom smelled like mold. - Toilet smelled terrible - No soap in bathroom - Wi-Fi doesn’t work - Dinner was inedible and left halfway through. Felt sick after eating the small amount we did eat. - Don’t dare to try breakfast
