Mountain Star Inn Cedar City

This is a small family operation, so it's a bit older and not updated. They don't have a 24 hour front desk and they don't service your room every day (if you're staying more than 1 night). But, it is the most convenient location in Downtown Cedar City - walk to everything including the Shakespeare Festival/SUU. The staff is friendly and they have basic breakfast.

There's not telephone to call the office, the tv didn't work, i had walk to the office report, waited for long time and nobody show up. Called many times and nothing

Very junky looking outside. Dusty arm chairs outside each room with plastic flowers. Inside was clean.

My only complaint was the parking was very tight, otherwise it fit my expectations for the price. Staff was very nice.

Shower covered in mold. No bars soap, just dispenser in shower. Overgrown, unmanaged brush in front of room, trash outside of room. Grubby, dingy, noisy, no security from street. Had to park on street to reach room. Mold all over shower. Just gross.

Room rates were low. Heater was coming off the wall. Doors to main lobby were locked at 4:00 pm arrival had to stand out side in freezing weather waiting for service. Room was overpowered by perfumy deoderizer. No breakfast until 7:30 so if you have an early departure time you won't get that.

This motel ended up being in a downtown run down area. The room was very old and the furniture was old and not in the best condition, except for the bed which was very comfortable. The coffee maker could not be plugged in where it sat. Tried to plug it in in the bathroom and it blew most of the power in the room. The office was not open at 7am for breakfast as they said it would be, so ended up leaving without any breakfast or being able to tell them about the power. We would choose to not stay here again.

There is a confusing check in procedure...you need to ring a bell for someone to check you in and it took awhile for someone to help me...i was confused which bell to ring and after ringing several different bells, I called the hotel number and someone came to help me. The room was very clean and comfortable. The TV had no signal but the owner came right over and fixed it. The ice machine wasnt making ice so the owner brought us a bag of ice! He went above and beyond to help us. The room was very quiet and the breakfast was good...we so appreciated the owner...he is working very hard!

Second time I stayed at this hotel, it’s more like an INN. The staff is family owned and they keep their rooms nice. They offer refrigerator, microwave, large beds, cable TV, coffee maker and easy parking. It’s nice for a short stay.

Manager was very friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and renovated. We decided to stay an extra night.

Took about 10 min to get someone up to the front to check us in. Sheets were stained- had to brush them off to make sure they weren't bugs. Carpet was not vacuumed. There wasn't any soap- not even in the hand soap dispenser. Trash can nor bag was provided. A full size refrigerator was not the cleanest. The shower needed attention- cleanliness, & maintenance-the shower valve was so loose couldn't adjust the temperature with ease. When I got out of the shower and walked into the bedroom, I sat on the bed to put lotion on my feet, and the bottom of my feet were black again! The television didn't work.

Small motel style reminiscent of my childhood. The staff was warm and friendly. It was extremely clean and simply decorated.

Another one to never stay at again. The room smelled when we first entered. The white towels were dingy and looked very thin and not clean. We wore our water shoes in the shower bc the shower looked dirty.The location was not the greatest, people hanging around that looked like were homeless. We give this hotel a terrible rating.

The room reaked of some fragrance that made breathing difficult and nearly intollerable. One of the power outlets didn't work (I need a CPAP). There was no hot water for a shower and there was no attendent at the front desk (actually the lobby was locked and no attendents available when we first arrived).

Room is clean, nice bed and sheets, clean bathroom and shower. All other utilities are in good working order.

It is on a busy intersection with lots of traffic, so there is much noise from the street. When I checked in and got to my room, I wanted to get ice for a drink, and the ice bucket appeared to have been used as a trash can previously and hadn’t been cleaned; when I brought it to the staff’s attention, they replaced it, but unlike other hotels, they do not use a plastic liner (bag), so the ice goes directly into the bucket which is a bit disconcerting. When I went to get ice which was from a new ice machine, the room’s floor was dirty with some sort of debris/dirt/substance which was a bit disconcerting as well. The staff has been very friendly and accommodating, and the bed seems very comfortable although I haven’t slept in the room yet. One more item that has been common in other hotels and motels that is lacking is hand soap (bar or liquid); I needed to wash my hands twice, and had to use the body wash from the shower. The towels (2) were another interesting element; they were both too small al which required me to use both to dry off after a shower, and one was pretty thin from what appeared was heavy use. The room is quaint and doesn’t have a lot of empty, wasted space; tight would be a good description. Finally, the TV was the final item I will address because with a season of playoffs (NBA/NHL), I was hopeful to watch some games, but the TV (DirecTV) didn’t have a guide of channels so I had to do a ‘Smart Search’ to find programs, but nothing was available.

I booked a single room for my dad. We got to the room, the light didn't work, there was no remote for the TV, and it wasn't clean. The bathroom door was hard to close and then I couldn't open it with without help unless they wanted me to possibly break the door. We asked for a new room as I didn't want to keep getting stuck in the bathroom. Front desk was annoyed and put out. And wanted to upcharge us for a new room. The next room was better, but I wouldn't book here again.

Husbands, this is not the place! Was supposed to be 1 king and 1 queen bed, ended up with 3 beds all jammed together, so no sleeping together. The cost is too high to save a small amount. Heater was trash. Could literally see our breath when we got into the room. Toilet has vinyl decal “Flush the Damn Toilet!” So tacky and ghetto.

Newly remodeled with plenty of amenities, fridge, microwave coffee maker. Nice bed with large tv. Great location. Nice family owned offers free breakfast and great rates. I would recommend for a shorter trip.

Room 130 The motel was empty of guests with five cars in the parking lot. ISSUES: 1. Shower had no running water upon entry or two hours later. 2. Sink water dribbled at best. I used bottled water for both teeth and wash. Note: Both hot and cold water were functioning the next morning. 3. A puddle of water on bath floor from a leaking toilet or pipe. I did not investigate origin. 4. The room's heat off upon entry. 5. It took two hours to warm-up due to a cold concrete floor, walls, and furnishings. 6. It took another hour to adjust temperature. 7. Bed side lights did not work. No power 8. Bedside 110v outlets did not work. No power. 9. Bedside USB outlets did not work. No power. 10. Refrigerator not functional. The freezer compartment was barely cool.....(not cold, maybe 40 degrees) It was completely warm by morning. Checking the plug, I noticed it was partially unpluged. 11.The next morning's breakfast consisted of couple of small Muffins and yogurt in a brown paper bag at check-in. The excuse was an electrical issue. This room should never have been occupied in its current condition and the items could have been checked prior to check-in in less than 3 minutes. The establishment's expected response will a similar pre-packaged response to negative reviews to contact the management. When I checked in the motel lobby was lock and it took 30 minutes to be acknowledged. I believe the check-in manager was the owner.

Really crappy billing practices. Our daughter (SUU alumni) was visiting from Chicago and we went to see a show and meet her friends. Since her plans were in flux, we wanted a room with two beds in case she would stay with us. We normally sty at Stafford Inn, but they were sold out. This hotel was close by so we went with it. AFTER booking, we get an email detailing all the "rules". No housekeeping (unless you pay extra), no checking in after 10:00 PM (unless you pay extra), no visitors after 6:00 PM (really?). Unregistered guest would cost an extra $50.00/night. We found these very weird, but since we were arriving early and were not planning on entertaining, we thought it was fine. However, when we went to register, it turns out that the room price was for two guests (even though the room is for four) and if my daughter was going to stay with us, we had to pay $20.00 extra/night. Bear in mind, none of these rules were advertised during the booking process. The room was OK, although could use some dusting. The location is great, with easy walking access to the festival grounds. Parking is free. WiFi was spotty in our room.

Nice cozy (small) room. Downside was road noise, updside was the super comfy bed. I only stayed one night but it was very reasonably priced for what you got.

Very unfriendly staff. Left waiting a long time after ringing the bell. Many pages of rules and charges if you break said rules but we had a tv that won’t work because the batteries were dead and no apology or compensation for that. Worst excuse for a free breakfast we have ever seen. Skip this place if you can.

Staff not welcoming, blunt responses,and what was foul is getting my card and charging the deposit fee without giving me a heads up and no acknowledgement receipt after,though I knew there is a deposit fee prior.

We did not stay at this hotel due to the deceptive practices of the owner and the deplorable condition of the assigned room. Upon arrival, the owner was absent, only appearing after a ten-minute wait and a direct phone call. He then processed a deposit – an amount significantly higher than deposits at three other hotels in the vicinity. Crucially, after securing my payment and ID, he informed me the original room was unavailable and was giving us a room with three king size beds. It was only after this transaction was complete that he revealed the room's "eco-friendly" feature: no toilet paper, only a bidet. This critical detail was never disclosed prior to booking or payment, and we would never have booked under such conditions. The room provided was entirely unsuitable: * It contained three king beds, crammed so tightly that less than a foot separated them, making movement nearly impossible. * A large refrigerator obstructed what little walking space remained. * The air conditioning unit had a broken on/off button, rendering it unusable. When confronted, the owner admitted no other rooms were available. We immediately decided not to stay. Despite acknowledging our position, he flatly refused a direct refund, directing us to Hotels.com. Hotels.com's subsequent attempt to secure our refund was rejected by the owner. This entire experience was highly unsatisfactory and costly due to the owner's misrepresentation and refusal to refund.

We paid for but did not stay at this property. Booked it using my expedia points with the balance on my c/c.We were looking for a pet friendly hotel.This hotel cost $37 CDN or so in points and $53 CDN on my card. I checked the pet policy and it said under 55 lbs. And thats all it said. We have 2 yorkies so thought no problem.hotel has a no refund/no cancellation policy. I didnt think this would be a problem. Expedia has always had correct info So I booked it. Then I get this long email from the property with all the rules and extra charges, including this, and its quoted.. Pet Policy : Small pets welcome with an additional 25.00 USD fee per stay per pet. Limit of 2 pets per room, with a maximum weight of 55 pounds. UN-REGISTERED PER PET, PER NIGHT IS A $100 FEE. Pets are NOT ALLOWED on beds or furniture at any time. Pets may not be left unattended in rooms or vehicles and must be leashed while outdoors at all times. Unregistered pets are not allowed on the property premises. So I immediately tried to get hold of hotel to ask why they did not state the pet fee. Called again, and they told me to take it up with Expedia, that they always give the correct pet info. So called Expedia and said I was not interested in paying $50 USD for my dogs when it was not stated on the policies (STILL ISN'T BTW). Expedia said they had a no refund/cancel policy but they would call the hotel. Eventually notified by Expedia that no refund be given. False advert. Expedia.I WANT MY POINTS BACK

After a mistake on booking for a pet friendly room-owner would not refund me or switch rooms for 2 night stay and had to get another hotel after waiting 40 minutes to resolve- he disappeared and wouldn’t answer phone or emails from from 3rd party booking company

No service at all! They have 3 bells offered to ring for service but nobody will ever answer them. They advertise a full breakfast. That is a flat out lie. They simply offer a few carbs that can sit there for who knows how long. We will not ever stay there again and advise others to do the same. There are plenty of other locations close by if you want something inexpensive.

It was a great little place. Breakfast offered but they don't replenish it so go early! We did enjoy it just fine though. Comfortable bed.

A little run down, but clean, good air conditioning, reasonable breakfast and great staff.
