The Earl of Sandwich Motel

Looking at it from the street, it looks kind of run down. Landscaping not great, old fences. But the room was renovated and well thought out. Had nice bed and bathroom. Has a fridge too! The deck off the slider should prob be stained or redone - I didn’t spend any time out there.

Out of the way, away from the city for a couple nights. The peace was great. A large courtyard that we took advantage of to play cards and laugh and have a great time. No ice available. The pool was closed, which was unfortunate because it was nearly 100°. Room was updated, could tell it was done inexpensively, but redone nonetheless. Pool looked updated, but was closed. The duck pond was great. So many birds out back. No option for Netflix on the tv. Overall earl of sandwich was our favorite stop of our week long trip. (Started in salem, then boston, then sandwich).

Cute place. If the yard is well maintained, this place will be nicer and welcoming. Like it.

I enjoyed the picnic area. The pool was very nice but there was garbage around the pool area when we arrived and it was still there the next day. The room was average. The grounds needed some TLC.

I love this location! Very cute, clean and the landscape is really very relaxing. Lots of sitting areas around the property. You have your own front and back deck. Very quiet and comfortable.

The motel has seen better days. While the room was clean and nicely appointed with antique furniture the exterior was shabby. Mossy and dirty roof and walls with rotted wood trim. Even the sign out front needed painting. Large weeds grew in the flower beds and bags of yard waste were lying by the dumpsters. The pool was closed and held stagnant water.

Room has a microwave, refrigerator and coffee maker. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. Grounds need a little cleaning up.

They were in the process of redoing all the rooms. So the room I was in was brand new and it was done very nicely. It wasn’t some low budget remodel. It was very nice. The grounds are beautiful. There’s a pond there. He had a porch off your room. He could just sit out and look at the greens. The TV was a good size. They are still working on the outside. Which makes it look older, but the inside is really nice. You can park right outside your room and there was nobody upstairs because it’s a single story building. It was very quiet and peaceful.

Lovely atmosphere, great parking, and convenient!

Property was newly remodeled. Outside can use a bit of work but once you look pass the initial what and go to the rooms it was good. Convenient location. Beach close by but beach is filled with lots of rocks. Still enjoyed our weekend getaway.

Stayed there for a second time within 2 months. Happy to see there was better lighting on the roadside sign. I had a different room but it was just a nice as my first stay. Clean, no odor, and remodeled. I plan on staying there again.

Room is renovated but very poorly. Several words written on the walls that needed to be painted over. Shower tiles and caulk were separating from the wall. Shower door installed on a slant so would keep rolling open. Walls are paper thin. We could hear the people in the next room talking and the employees banging around until midnight, then again starting at 5:45 am both nights. Missing faceplate on light switch. No smoke or carbon monoxide detector in the room. They don’t have a printer so wouldn’t give us a receipt when we checked out. One positive - The bed was comfortable. The Earl’s location was ideal for our needs but this motel needs a lot of work in function, aesthetic and service.

Such a disappointment. Rooms were moldy, dark, dirty, and dank. The tub was dangerous and slippery and you couldn't take a bath if you wanted to as the drain plug had been pulled out. The property is looking unloved and uncared for. We would not have stayed a second night if it had not already been paid for.

I can’t even believe that this hotel is offered on Expedia. Unfortunately, once you have booked a hotel room in that area there are not many other options if you want to change your mind and leave. I have several pictures to attach as well. The amount of filth in the bedroom was absolutely appalling

The room has obviously been under renovation and was looking pretty good but the bathroom needs work . Lots of mold on the shower door runners andwalls. The bedroom floor needed to be swept. We picked up pieces of peanuts left by someone else. The floor under the bed was dirty. Check in consisted of charging my credit card and handing me the key! It could be nice but needs work! The grounds are lovely.

The room was really clean and brand new. The bed and pillows were super comfortable and we had a great night of sleep! Great value for the money.

The place looks a little run down but also quaint. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The little deck and the back grassy area are cute although the resident geese (held away by a fence) looked a little aggressive. The only downside was the thin walls and the ability to hear everything the neighbors said. A great little place for the price.

Since we had a few free days, we decided to take a quick trip. I found this motel and since we hadn't spent much time in the area, we decided to give it a try. It turned out to be a pleasant surprise - nice area, room clean, check-in service quick and friendly. The exterior of the motel is dated and needs refreshing and landscaping, but the rooms are updated. We enjoyed our time in the area.

Nice spot. Outdated furniture and fixtures.. bed was VERY noisy. Even the slightest movement made noise; lights flickered and the TV wouldn't stay off. I don't believe in ghosts, but if i did I'd say it was haunted. (You could probably charge more if you said it was haunted) Price was on par with the accommodations.

We have stayed there before, and find it a comfortable stay while visiting with family in the area. The rooms are all away from the highway, which is a strong positive feature. Food options require a drive.

The outside is suitably rustic but the interiors of the rooms are all very up to date, clean and comfortable. The beds were the best! They beat so-called comfort beds of some of the luxury chains.

We were really disappointed in the Earl of Sandwich. We got there early hoping to check in early since we were in the area. No biggie if we couldn't. The office says it's open from 8 AM - 10 PM. Well we were greeted with a handwritten note on the office door that said "Check in is 2 PM". When we checked in later in the day, the front desk person wasn't very friendly or welcoming. Just matter of fact, asked for id and gave us our room key. Whole transaction was about five minutes. When we went into our room, we felt like we were thrown back int he 70s. First, it was musty and VERY outdated and rundown. It just felt dirty. The bed itself was clean, but extremely uncomfortable. The bathroom was all paneling and just outdated. Our room looked nothing like the room pictures posted. The back porch was dirty, and we had to wipe down our chairs to sit out there. The backyard wasn't well maintained at all. All in all just very unwelcoming and depressing. I couldn't wait to get out of there the next morning. When we checked out at 8:30 in the morning (office opens at 8), we were greeted with a bowl on the counter for keys - that was it. Just not a great experience from start to finish. We checked out other places to stay during our next trip to the Cape. We won't be there again!

We hoped to check in early and just get the key so we could come back late around 11pm. We got there at 1:45pm and there was a note on the door to call a number because they were only open from 8 am to 8 or 9pm. I called the number, no answer. I called the cell phone listed. No answer. We noticed a worker working around the grounds. We asked and he held up 2 fingers I think meaning check in was at 2? Had to leave to get to the event we were there for. I came back at 6:30pm the door was open, no one at the desk. instructions were to call a phone number from the phone at the desk. no answer. I called twice it rang and rang and rang. Suddenly a man showed up. Same man as in the garden and he checked me in. Then I went back to my event. Once in the room later it was musty, the sheets seemed clean the bathroom was clean the water was hot. However the place is dated and needs paint here and there. Coffeemakers are in the room and so is a fridge and TV. Not sure if any of it worked as we didn't use it. Check out at 7:30 has you leaving your keys at a lock box near the door. again no one in the office and a sign on the door they were open at 8am. If we would have had an issue I don't think there was any way to contact anyone.

Value priced lodging and indeed is a good value. Nothing fancy but clean and well kept up. Heat was not working well when we got there and fellow at the front desk came out and even called before he left for the night to confirm we were warm and everything else was fine.

Really great experience with the front desk when checking in. It makes a huge difference knowing that my comfort matters. Clean quiet room central to all the things that make historic Sandwich such a cool place to visit.

As soon as we checked in and went to our room which was clean, but smelled musty, My wife noticed glass broken on the window in the bathroom, there was no way to close it or have any privacy. I immediately went back to the office and told the manager, he was very ignorant on the fact and said " don't worry about it, we don't have any peeping people around here" as he gestured like he was peeking. I told him it was chilly and we needed another room, he argued with me and said "why do you need another room!?" I told him again and he reluctantly gave us another room while he mumbled under his breath. The room he gave us was a handicapped access room with a big bathroom with broken and old facilities...we stayed because we had a wedding the following day, and no time look for something else,( I'm sure with this place, we would have gotten an argument about a refund), very bad experience, lucky it was only 2 day stay.

Very nice clean room - looks newly remodeled. Booked at the last minute and not disappointed! Staff at check in was super nice too. Thank you so much!

Staff was very helpful, and friendly. The place was quiet and convenient. I would stay here again.

This is a quaint motel on a lovely property near the heart of Sandwich. It is definitely a dated place to stay. But that is not to imply it is lacking in of the modern creature comforts one expects from their lodgings. I only say that in terms of the aesthetics of the establishment. While I didn’t have the need to take advantage of its proximity to dining, there were a few eateries within walking distance. There is a large lawn “courtyard” with picnic tables and a small pond to look on and unwind by. The manager, who I think lives on the property, was very helpful and kind. If I return to Sandwich with my family, I will be booking another stay here.

This is a very high standard motel. It is equivalent to many name brand hotels that are twice the price. Food and shopping are just a few minutes drive away.

I have booked almost all my travel for many, many years using Expedia and I feel extremely let down and angry about this hotel. Besides being horrible in every way, I was pulled in by the pictures that were completely misleading AND then paid more than it would have cost for a Marriott or Hilton not far away! A rating of 8.4! Really?!?! I'm not sure I want to continue using Expedia. It appeared like a classy B&B but couldn't be further from the truth. Moldy shower, ancient furniture and mattress, hasn't had any maintenance probably ever and I saw no breakfast. The man working at the office was also lacking in every way.

Liked: Very quiet. Really no amenities. Grounds upkeeping was so-so. Duck pond behind property was quite unexpected. No deadbolt on door and sliders. Farther away from Cape Cod canal and dining options than I would have liked. Some issues with room (plug in bathroom for hair dryer didn't work, freezer not working in fridge unit).

This stay was as advertised and what we needed for commuting halfway home from concert in Truro. Very clean place and bedding. Microwave, fridge and coffee.

While it might not be the most updated place to stay we very much enjoyed our stay here. The rooms were pretty clean and the management was able to accommodate a very late check in with no fuss. The bathroom was clean and there was plenty of hot water/water pressure. The fridge and microwave was a nice addition I hadn't actually counted on, which made a week long stay much easier. Thank you so much for being part of a great vacation!

This is a 1950-60 ish motel located along a busy secondary road in a remote area. Modern motels have a sort of free breakfast. The Earl had none. The lavatory and bath were installed by someone who didn't know how to adjust them. I had to yank the faucet to get any water. I had to forcibly yank the water control in the shower for my wife because it was so tight.
