Neptune, an Ash Hotel

This was a late booking (a week before) and wanted to be central. It was in the middle of a rebrand so was a little tricky to find as outside it says The Dean. Parking was in an adjacent city lot ($40 with hotel). Hotel is small with a cool vibe. The check in guy was helpful and helped us navigate the old fashioned lift. There is a lobby area with a coffee shop but this was only open for a couple of hours in the morning and just serves coffee. The bar was being refurbished and looked very cool. The place has a history and you definitely get a vibe! The room was a very pleasant surprise - modern, clean design with thought to the style. Great bathroom and shower. All in all an interesting discovery if you want to be downtown.

There is only public paid parking & it’s very expensive. The describe says limited onsite parking but there isn’t any! There’s no coffee maker in the room.

The property is very cute and we enjoyed our stay. The area is great and there is plenty to walk to. The rooms do not have a coffee maker or refrigerator. There is ice available, but you have to call down to request it. There is a coffee counter in the lobby area to buy coffee, but it’s only open Thu-Sun, so we had no coffee available since we weren’t there those mornings. The bathroom is very small with little counter space, but it worked out okay for us. The shower is also very small and made it awkward to shower. The bed was fairly comfortable, but the couch is stiff. We enjoyed both bars (there is a ‘speakeasy’ and a karaoke bar called Boombox). We wish they were open more nights. Bartenders at both bars were terrific. Friendly and full of recommendations. The hotel staff was all wonderful, helpful, and kind.

Funky European feeling decor, very friendly and accommodating staff, nice room. There is no parking at the hotel and the adjacent lot was $38, it would have helped to have that information ahead of time….

The parking situation was confusing. U can park in lot beside the hotel but u must go itno lobby to click the qr code to get the 438 a night rate, If not it is over $200 tpo park in that lot overnight if you just use the kiosk at the lot.

Cool boutique hotel. My only complaint was the Saturday night noise below my daughters room, coming from the downstairs bar, the Boombox.

Very nice hotel room in a great location - plenty of restaurants, bars and cafes nearby - the hotel staff we encountered were very nice and welcoming. Unfortunately we couldn't find a water cooler and the hotel cafe hours were not clear. The hotel has a single very small old fashioned lift (only fits 2 adults + luggage) that at times made some questionable noises and it took us 3 tries to get from Level 3 of 4 when checking out (stairs not an option with our luggage). The Boom Box Kareoke bar was fun, but would have been very noisy on lower levels at that end of the hotel! The walls were pretty thin and we were woken up at early hours by some inconsiderate, noisy guests returning to their rooms - bring your earplugs! The hotel car park is convenient but costs USD 40 a night.

We really tried to like this hotel-but when I said we had a fifteen year old with they gave us room with BUNK BEDS! Really… the elevator was downright scary and dangerous and was definitely not ADA compliant. They have removed one of the locks from the elevator doors (you enter in the lobby one way and then floors use a different door). The floors were dirty and there were stairs to get in and then another set of stairs in the lobby to the elevator. I have difficulty with stairs, I have no idea how someone in a wheelchair could use that elevator without assistance because the gate on the elevator door does not stay open and it is super heavy. On another note, upon making the the reservation when I realized I had been given a room with bunk beds, I called the hotel and spoke with a gentleman who said it was no problem, just tell them at the at checkin that we don’t want bunk beds and would 30-40 up charge to change the room , no problem. When we went to check in the said the only room they had available was a king with a daybed and was $119 bucks more. Needless to say, we said we couldn’t stay there canceled. We got a room at the Hilton up the street that didn’t have the noncompliant elevator (from the Shining) and two beds.

We stayed at the Dean shortly after it opened in 2014. Coming back 10 years later, the hotel definitely looks 10 years older. More wear and tear was noticeable. The coffee bar was closed the first morning of our stay which was disappointing but luckily there are a few coffee options to walk to close by.

The staff was super friendly and it's very conveniently located in downtown Providence. Whilethe bedding and immediately used areas did seem clean, the was not. Dust caked in the windowsills, the hallways carpets hadn't been vacuumed in weeks and the white tassels were nearly black on the carpet in the rooms. The bathroom and general space was extremely lacking in function. I would have been furious had I paid actual asking price, and I wasn't all that happy with special Expedia pricing discount. It was just okay enough to stay the second night because we had a function, but checked out a day early. Wouldn't recommend.

Check in time was 3:00PM, my party arrived at 4:00 to our rooms not ready. Once in our rooms we all discovered they were dirty, with hair and liquids spilled on the floor. Also the security guard just about interrogated us as we tried to enter back into the hotel at night.

The Dean is lovely! Clean, beautiful, friendly staff, lovely rooms. They are tiny (though the bathroom is a fantastic size) but for one person the accommodation are perfect. The elevator is tiny and old, but quick and adds to the charm.

Overall such a wonderful, clean hotel and it was in walking distance of so many highlights of Providence. I hardly Ubered. Housekeeping was fantastic and did a great job cleaning my room each day. The only downside was the shower setup. It’s a rainfall shower and only about 4x4 feet so there’s literally nowhere to stand out of the water. Other than that, I lived my stay!

Room is not clean, found someone else’s hair on bed and dirt on carpet. Corner is dusty. Facility is really old.

This room smells absolutely disgusting. Like a public restroom. And the shower curtain is somehow stinkier. There is also a layer of dust all over the lights, molding, etc.

The bed was comfortable, bathroom clean. Dimly lit bathroom. Loud with cars racing at night. Window air conditioner loud and almost face level when in bed. Filthy, sticky, dusty, wood floor and baseboards looked as though haven’t been cleaned in years. Debris and dirt under bed when I looked to find an earring I dropped. Rug alongside bed was tattered and dirty looking. Had to put shoes on before stepping down out of bed. Absolutely overpriced for these conditions. There is a difference between retro and just worn and dirty. Disappointed.

Smelled like dirty mop water and the bathroom curtain stunk like it hadn’t been washed in a very long time. The shower is also very cramped. Bed is uncomfortable

The DEAN is a good hotel in downtown Providence. Go here if you enjoy staying in a smaller hotel. The hotel is in a historic building, adding some extra charm. The room was relatively small, but more than big enough for me, traveling solo. The hotel should improve three things. First being the WIFI, this is unusable, very slow and often providing no internet connection. Second, the duvets have seen better days, and the filling is lumping together, which is not the most comfortable. Lastly, the hotel uses wind frame mounted airconditioning units, these are loud, and do not allow you to close the window fully. This is annoying, as some terraces are located close to the hotel which kept me awake for one night during my stay.

The location is great but I won’t return. As much as I wanted to love this place, it was mostly uncomfortable. We got a king room with a seating area. The bed was not at all comfortable and the pillows were flat and unhelpful. The king bed was edged into a portion of the room that barely fit so one side had a tiny table next to it and the other side didn’t have enough room to walk next to the bed, let alone a side table. What I didn’t understand is why they wouldn’t add a few little shelves on the wall instead, so there was a place to put your phone etc. the lift was old and charming but hard to navigate with bags and a dog. There was one person who gave such excellent service, the blonde woman who worked at night. The other people who worked there were fine except for the younger woman who’s service was below the level I expected (seemed kind of bored, didn’t explain the parking options very well, etc). The BAR is a little oasis of loveliness. Absolutely superb, secret, beautiful.

The room was spartan, no closet or bureau. Two hooks held 3 hangers each. No refrigerator. The only wastebasket was a little one in the bathroom. Until the maid changed the linens on the 3d morning of our stay, the was a smell of urine. The shower had a curtain that billowed into the stall, but there was a rain shower head, lots of pressure and hot water. Our first 2 nights, we had only bath towels. Hand towels came when we had maid service. The bed was very comfortable, as were the pillows. We have to apply to the City for a parking refund as there were no spots available in the lot next to the hotel after we paid. We had to pay for that lot and the nearby structure as a result.

Front desk staff was really nice and the area in which the hotel is located is walkable with lots of shops and restaurants nearby and so that was convenient. Although the hotel room was clean, I still found hair under the pillow and above the sink in the bathroom. The bed was comfortable but the room I got was a little small and didn’t really have any places to put my luggage and bags.

Cute hotel and SMALL but well designed rooms. For some reason the cute coffee bar was never open during our three night stay! Definitely not a room you would “hang out in” as the only seating was the bed and one small desk chair.

The Neptune (formerly Dean) Hotel is a classic old hotel in the heart of downtown Providence. The staff and service were great. Our room ws not only tiny, but there was more space available in the room to set up a chair (or couch) to watch someone in the shower through the window to the room than there was space to walk around the bed. Despite good service, this lack of space to move near the bed, due to a really strange room configuration of room 408 made our stay just OK.

The rooms were very small. No phone in the rooms and the coffee shop inside the hotel had a very limited menu.

Looked much more like a boutique hotel online than it actually was. The elevator was difficult to use and did not feel safe. Staff was not interested in friendliness, very matter of fact in their interactions. Rugs in the hallways were ripped and gross.

Front desk and service staff are amazing here. 100 out of 10. Recommend to everyone.

The front desk staff was amazing and helpful! The free drinks were easily used in their coffee bar, and I still can’t get over how comfortable the bed was and how amazing the shower products smelled! I would absolutely stay here again if I visit Rhode Island in the future!

Started out annoying as my room wasn’t ready on time on a Monday afternoon. The front desk said they’d text me when the room was ready. 45 minutes later I checked back and they said the room was ready but the previous agent left for the day. Okay cool thanks for that. I had problems with the parking and got a ticket though the machines weren’t working. Front desk kid couldn’t care less. It’s small and gives more of a hostel vibe than a hotel. And why is the bed basically on the floor. Wouldn’t come back.

The front desk agent Grace was very helpful and suggested restaurants around the area to eat. She let me know via text when my room was ready and placed my bags in the room while I grabbed food from the near by restaurant Murphys. She also shared how to walk over to Brown University since I was waiting for my husband and son to arrive so I could check out the campus before they got in town

Everything is great except the area around the hotel is loud out back and the rooms have very thin walls. I heard people up and down the street and didn’t sleep much. The hotel is pretty and staff is great. It’s more for style though and not for comfort.

I like staying at the Dean, it is close to the convention center. It’s an old and quirky hotel with a beautiful speakeasy and boutique rooms. Make sure to pay the meter.

Brown, RISD, museums, more dining, and more shopping are a short walk away, as well as the river and multiple bridges. Except for the coffee shop being unexpectedly closed one morning, the service and staff were great. I'd definitely come back for yet another stay! (P.S. There's definitely weekend noise, but I'm a night owl so I didn't mind too much, since it stopped before I went to bed.)

Very decent for a good night sleep. Not many amenities- nowhere to get snacks, coffee, etc. Just very basic, but the basics were quite nice! The elevator is very old-fashioned and has the metal grates on it; I thought it was awesome! Still, location was great but I expected a little more for the price we paid. Hopefully when they are done with the remodeling it will be better equipped with conveniences. Staff was amazing! I'd stay here again if I found myself in Providence, but I'd know to come better prepared.

The lady at the front desk was so nice and personable. She gave us free drink vouchers for our anniversary. The room was clean and we love the vibe. The speakeasy was a cool sexy laid back atmosphere. Will come again!

First, parking situation is terrible. The receptionist told us we can park in the multi-level garage next door for $25 a day. We went over to check and nobody is there. I called the parking attendant and they said there was no such deal. Ended up parking at another garage which clearly spelled out the cost Second, they did not offer us the 2 VIP free drinks. They only gave them after we asked. But the bar is closed and the coffee bar is closed too so we don’t get to use those Third: no refrigerator in the room. No safe Fourth: the bed is super soft

Expensive to park. No fridge in room, TV didn’t work, and barely enough room on each side of the bed to shimmy between the bed and the wall. Coffee shop and bar both closed during stay which was a huge bummer.
