We hasd a lot of fun at The Swope, reading books in the library, playing chess in the parlor and eating breakfast in the dining room. The staff was very accommodating and the room was very nice. It's right downtown in Gettysburg, so we left the car in the lot and walked around. A fellow guest recommended taking a ghost tour and that turned out to be a lot of fun, but maybe a touch creepy too, we did a 9:00 PM tour. Dinner at the Dobbin house was super special as well, like a walk back in time, and a trip to Hollabaugh Brothers market was a lot of fun too.

Beautifully appointed in period style. Spotlessly clean. Personally served hot breakfast. Several lovely sitting rooms, including a library. Wine social early evening. Friendly outgoing innkeepers. In the center of town, close to shops and restaurants.

First, the staff/managers/owners (not sure which) were very friendly and helpful at check in and in providing me information about the facility and the area. My room was very clean and the bed very comfortable. There is no elevator, so anyone with mobility issues needs to be aware of the location of room choices when making a reservation. While I liked the room, the temperature was very cold (A/C) with no ability for me to change the temp in the room. So I used an extra blanket at night that was in the room. There are no closets or armoires for hanging suits or dresses, which I needed. So chair backs had to do. The one breakfast I ate was average with fruit, yogurt and granola, and waffles. The waffles had been prepared the day before and reheated for breakfast (they were being made when I checked in). One thing not mentioned in the listing is the need to pay for parking in the city parking garage behind the inn. The cost for guests is half the daily rate (currently $9/day) which I find reasonable given the limited parking options in Downtown Gettysburg. And there are reserved spaces for guests. The location is one block from the center of Downtown Gettysburg, so perfect for walking to all downtown shops, events and attractions. Overall, for the nightly rate I paid, the generally positive feelings about the room, and the location, I recommend the Swope Manor as a place to include on your list of places to consider staying when visiting Gettysburg.

Nice staff and a wonderful breakfast. The rooms are all different. Pay a little extra and get one of the nicest rooms. It will be worth it. The location is great for a walk in town.
