Easy check in, courteous and friendly staff, great holiday drinks in the bar!

Drinks at the bar were great and breakfast nice as well.

Staff was excellent, very friendly and very helpful. The room was as expected for a historical hotel, however the bed was very uncomfortable as well as the pillows. The thin walls allowed for every noise and conversation from my neighbors as well. Parking was off site as well as the gym. Location of the hotel was perfect, cute little town and walking distance to food. The town itself felt safe and quiet.

A downside is that there is no longer any onsite parking, so it might be difficult for guests with mobility issues to be accommodated as some short walking will be required. Also, the breakfast accommodations were not very good - both days, different products, but horribly dry and not very appetizing. (They must have changed vendors as this was not the case in the past. Had to go find alternatives at a cost.) However, I will most likely still return.

The Black Hawk Hotel is older, but kept clean comfortable and safe. Unlike some other hotels the Black Hawk did not charge an incidentals amount on my card at check in only to return it later, I appreciated this. The only dissapointment is there is no onsite parking, we got a map showing 24 hour street parking. The closest being a block away.

The bar was great! Amazing bartender! The room was noisy, people stomping on floor above.

Charming, historic hotel in the heart of downtown. The front desk clerk was super friendly and helpful with parking and anything else we needed, she even remembered why we were there and asked about our swim meet the next day. The hotel has a Haunted Mansion vibe with the decor and the kids loved browsing the artifacts throughout. There’s also a playable piano in the lobby which my daughter tried out. The breakfast starts a little later than usual but offers some yummy grab and go bakery pastries and coffee. There is a bar that seemed to be popular thought we didn’t visit. The gym is not on property but is just a couple of blocks away and has your basic hotel setup with some free weights, treadmill, and elliptical. Parking was not reserved for hotel but was free and several spots available within a short walk (there’s the ability to park at the back door for check in and unloading). We only took a little longer on a Friday evening to find a spot but still not bad! Loved that they use real keys. Our room overlooked Main Street which was lovely, there was some traffic noise but that’s to be expected. If I had to change anything, I would suggest no mirror for me to stare at myself while using the toilet (LOL), and adding a bar of soap or hand soap dispenser by the sink. If you’re a light sleeper, may want to pack earplugs or a sound machine because it is old and you can hear creeks and noises but that’s part of the charm. Lots to do nearby. 10/10 recommend!

Room was clean; it is a historic hotel so furnishings are antique including a squeaky bed frame. I have a gluten allergy; they don’t offer any gluten free breakfast items. Cup of Joe across the street had items I could purchase for breakfast.

Interesting stay. The hotel was beautiful once. Paint new, but just smelled like mold and mildew, couldn’t get it out of my nose. It was Monday so, no bar. Room was large, bedroom and sitting area. Room was clean of dirt and dust. Chairs it sitting area chair ripped, refrigerator did not get cold, no in room coffee. Bathroom had a walk in shower but very short

We loved the location and the unique style of this hotel. It was like a step back in time. The furnishings were in great condition, but antique. The bed was comfortable. The rooms were clean, but the bathroom needed some maintenance. There was mold in the caulking around the tub that needed to be replaced. The check-in staff and the bartender were very nice. Overall, a great stay.

Beautiful historic hotel. Happy hour cocktails were surprisingly affordable, walking distance to downtown shops, entertainment, and dining. Easy parking. The shower was delightful too! Great water pressure, beautiful updated bathroom with historic touches. Wonderful! We will be back!

This is a lovely historical hotel that has been nicely updated. Very clean and comfortable. It was very quiet also. Can’t beat the downtown location. We were able to easily walk to shops and restaurants. $10 breakfast vouchers were given for each day at a choice of four local restaurants. Only negatives - pillows could have been bigger and more comfortable, and our room did not have a microwave.

The Black Hawk Hotel, although beautiful outside and on the main floor, the hotel room itself and the amenities within were less than ideal. Firstly, there was nobody at the front for check-in, nor was anyone visible on the premises for our stay that night. When getting into bed that night, I noticed immediately that there appeared to be a large yellow stain on the white sheets, and a large blood stain on the pillow case. Although both were laundered stains, it was shocking that a hotel of this caliber would have put these bedclothes back on the bed. In the morning, it took nearly ten minutes for the water in the shower to come to temperature, and there was barely any water pressure. When exiting the shower, I realized that two of the three bath towels, though soft, were incredibly frayed along the long edges. Again, I am shocked these made it back to the room in their condition after having been laundered.

We like list. It needs better cleaning.

This is a very old hotel, in fact it is the second oldest in the country. In spite of that it has been very well maintained and the modernization necessities have been done with respect for its history. Our room, an Executive King Suite was spacious and furnished with a blend of antiques (sitting room) and a very new and comfortable bed (bed room). Located in the heart of downtown Cedar Falls, we were able to walk to restaurants, shops, and museums. All 4 of the staff members were met were friendly, courteous, and professional. The charming bar offered crafted cocktails and we used our VIP perk happily. Keep in mind this hotel is 170 years old and has a few creaks and cracks, none of which diminish the charm and comfort.

We love staying here...however we were disappointed with the bed this time. We reserved a King Suite with spa. The bed was NOT a king bed even though the description says it is. Would not have reserved this room had I known the size of the bed. Looked like a double...maybe was a queen sized.

I was excited to stay at this historic hotel simply for the chance to see the property. The room was comfortable and the bed was nice and big. The AC unit couldn’t be adjusted and definitely could have used an extra blanket. I did not sleep well as my room overlooked Main Street and the motorcycle noise was on-going; each time I drifted off, I was jolted awake. Parking is stressful because there is no dedicated parking and you have to rely on parking somewhere around the property. Fingers crossed you can find one during a weekend stay. I was lucky to find one last spot at the tire business behind the hotel. I didn’t feel unsafe but it was inconvenient and a bit stressful. I had to leave by 6:30 am and wasn’t able to take advantage of coffee and breakfast served from 8-10 am. When I went downstairs to check out, there was nobody there. I left my keys on the desk with the others and left. Overall, the price paid for this hotel stay was not worth it. It was cool to see the old building but the vibe was disappointing and lonely. I won’t stay here again.

Loved everything but the PILLOWS!! Replace them!

It is a very cool historical building. This creates a great vibe, but also has some limitations. The lobby was breezy and cool on the very cold winter days. Room size was nice, but the shower was cramped and small. However water pressure and hot water were great!

The bar was great! Amazing bartender! The room was noisy, people stomping on floor above.

The hotel is very much a classic. The old world furniture was fantastic. My wife’s favorite part was the Jacuzzi bathtub. The sitting room was very nice and very comfortable for four people to have a conversation without noise or a TV i the sitting room.

Complete lack of detail, lights in the lobby that don't work candles in the fireplace that are not operational which would be super cute. An older woman at the front desk that is just completely unprofessional All the other front desk staff is amazing. Property is totally worn

Was quiet and I was able to rest well. Also, Maxwell and Baker were excellent hosts!

It was a wonderful stay. But much more like an apartment rental than a hotel. I think I saw a staff member once over 3 nights. Cool old historic building. Don’t expect hotel service. Had to text someone to change the temp, and even then it didn’t really change. That said, I would gladly return for the charm and privacy.

ALL OF THE STAFF at the Black Hawk are BEYOND Kind & Welcoming. We loved staying here 3 nights as we provided support to our fam on Ragbrai. We switched rooms and both were terrific. Spacious and clean with a lot of eclectic antiques throughout the hotel. Bartender at Cocktail lounge makes some great drinks and is also SUPER NICE. Great location with lots of restaurant options / bars.

The accommodations are above average and the hotel staff is excellent and customer centric!

Nice building and furnishings. My room was a little dog-eared for the high price tag. The lack of any staff or hospitality whatsoever was downright creepy. The pandemic is over, bring back a desk clerk at least.

We just loved our stay! It’s so comfortable and quiet here - and cool during the hot weather. The hotel is right on Main Street with all the restaurants and coffee shops and bars you need to be surrounded by Cedar Falls’ finest establishments.

Bar Winslow has Steph, an amazing mixologist and front desk staff helpful and accomodating. $10 coupon for Bar Winslow presented at check in. Close to many restaurants and other attractions. Nice touch in the morning with pastries from Bambinos Bakery. Will stay at The Black Hawk every chance we get.

Great hotel!!! It gets rowdy & loud downtown at night with all the bars, but the hotel and location was awesome

A really cool hotel with very friendly staff. The only down side was the breakfast that wasn’t fully included. You got a voucher to use in the neighboring cafe, but it wasn’t enough to cover a full breakfast and the cafe was closed on Mondays. However, the cafe was great!

It was very classy, upscale hotel. The service was friendly. Devin is great asset. I loved the free breakfast at LePetit.

We were let down by this experience. The hotel smelled strongly of mold. There was mold in our room, old food from past guests, a sanitary seal from needles were left on our floor as well; the room was clearly not cleaned. We went to the bar where the only server came back from a break, did not was his hands and made use drinks, folding fruits with his hands to put in our drinks. The first drinks were dumped out because hairs were in them. We went down to breakfast 20 minutes after it was open and there was not enough breakfast for two people.
