Alt Hotel Ottawa Downtown

Elevator needed a room card to work giving some extra security. Great coffee bar on site with comfortable tables and seating. No parking onsite but conveniently located across the street.

6-night stay for work. 15-minute walk to Shaw Conference Centre. Friendly staff. Cool bar / cafe area to hang out in next to reception. Room was great - spacious, comfy and clean. Good shower. Gym was a little on the smaller side but had the basics and towels. Great ramen restaurant around the corner.

This was a great stay! From the staff at the reception who were very helpful and took the time to answer a few questions for us. I called a day in advance to see if we could have an early check-in and they said they would do their best and they indeed did so! The rooms are spacious, with plenty of nice towels, coffee and tea makers were provided in room. The mattresses were excellent as were the pillows and bedsheets were impeccably clean, like brand new. Best sleep experience in a hotel in a long while! Also a very nice bar area and lounge downstairs. Really good vibe all around! Thank you so much. I have no hesitation in highly recommending this hotel!

Great location for eashy walking to all of downtown Ottawa's sites. Lacking of on-site parking initially seemed like a drawback but the underground lot nearby was safe and secure and we didn't need our vehicle for the time we were there.

Ottawa Alt Hotel is a good Hotel. It is clean, staff are friendly and attentive. Limited options for dining at the Hotel and it is designed for travellers on the go. Close to the OC Transpo train station which is nice. No amenities like a Pool or Hot tub/Gym. The area is not great if you bring a car. Hotel Alt was very nice and inviting. The only downside was no hotel parking. I had to use the parking garage across the street but had to gain access from one street over. It wasn't perfect but at least it was close by.

Large and comfortable room, unfortunately the carpet between the two beds smelled like urine.

Recently spent a week-end in Ottawa for the tulip festival and we all stayed at Alt Hotel. We chose this property as we have had very good experiences at the Alt located in Montreal, and this location did not disappoint! The location was quite good as it was a close walk to Parliament, restaurants, etc... The hotel staff was excellent...very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The property was extremely clean and well-maintained and the lobby had many places to gather (tables, chairs, etc..). In fact, we purchased brunch from a local Scone Witch on Sunday and brought back the food which we enjoyed seated around a nice dining table. The hotel has a coffee bar and the coffee was quite good (expresso drinks, etc...). Our particular room had 2 queen beds, a spacious bathroom with a generous amount of clean towels, and was very spacious and quiet. Bed was also comfortable; although, the bed cover was quite hot and heavy (wish they had the option of a light blanket as it was warm outside). Next time, I will request a different blanket for sleeping. One of the other couples in our party had a smaller room, which has that odd glass wall between the bathroom and bedroom, which makes it difficult if one person is an early riser and wants to shower early while not waking their partner. The front desk informed us that they will hang a curtain of sorts to block the glass, if requested (good to know for next time). This is a good value for the price and we would return.

Limited storage space for luggage and clothing. No shelves in the shower for personal items. No proper lighting- either too bright or not enough light. Parking is farther than expected.

Place was nice but quirky room interior with see through shower into the room and bathroom door that allowed you to see into the toilet and shower when closed. but other then that it was good

This hotel was a pleasant surprise. The rooms are small but use the limited space very well like European hotels. Soundproofing was mostly working except at the door. Loud neighbours will still be a problem. We lucked out and only had a noisy neighbour for one of the nights. The only other problem was the hair dryer didn’t work. Everything else was great. Would stay again.

Modern architecture with exposed concrete in ceilings and columns make the building quiet. Comfortable firm bed and big pillows. Interesting room layout with a frosted glass window between the shower and the bedroom. Nice bench to hold a suitcase. Reasonable price for downtown area. Wifi works fine and plenty of hot water. Tim Horton on the same block-- I didn't get the pricey breakfast in the hotel.

Parking was not at the hotel site, but the property did recommend nearby parking, a reasonable walking distance in the nice weather. Hotel staff were very professional, knowledgeable and helpful. The room did not have a fridge nor a safe, which would have been convenient. The room was modern and very clean, with a very comfortable bed.

The hotel itself is great—excellent location, clean and spacious rooms, comfy beds, no complaints there. The only real issue was anything parking-related. I couldn’t even stop out front to unload luggage without parking enforcement getting involved. When we asked about parking, the front desk gave a vague answer that led us to a lot charging $47 a night. I'm not even that frustrated about the cost. It's more the lack of ownership and clear direction from the front desk over this clear deficiency that was disappointing. It’s a small thing, but it really affects the arrival and departure experience.

Only other guest and myself were in line. It was around 5pm. First: we were charged the deposit twice. Staff said that the system was showing error...,when I checked my bank account, it showed that the card went through and have been charged twice,so, I asked for clarifications if their machine was malfunctioning and showed her two pending transactions on my account. However, she did not seem to care about my question.. she just brushed me off angrily " said your money will be returned when you check out". 2. She handed me the keys to the room, told me the room number and and said enjoy your stay! I hoped,the least, she would have directed me atleast on how to get to the room as the building elevators are in a hidden corners...which might be hard to find for someone who is tired after a long day of traveling. I would not stay in this hotel again.

I loved my stay at the Alt!! The staff couldn’t have been more friendly or helpful! They always greeted us with a smile and were quick to help with anything we needed or asked. The hotel is clean and comfortable and I love its focus on eco friendliness. It was a quick and easy walk to so many tourist highlights such as Parliament, Rideau Centre mall, and Byward Market. I will be back!

Check in was slow due to under staffing. Yet for the price and location, I’d suggest this hotel in central Ottawa.

Very attentive staff that made sure our requests (room floor, quiet location, etc) were accommodated. Noon check-out is also a big plus.

On the positive side, the property was unique in it's styling. I was disappointed with basic service. I requested a wake up call - I was there for 3 nights and never did get a wake up call. There was limited food available on site so I needed to leave the property for meals. I wanted a tea and they provided a kettle that didn't work.

The Alt hotel is a very nice hotel, I've been there a number of times. Clean stylish rooms, friendly helpful staff, good internet for working from room. No complainnts about the hotel. I will note that Bank St and downtown Ottawa in general is becoming very seedy. My experience has more been that it's depressing than dangerous/violent but lots of homelessness, urine-soaked sidewalks, drug addictions, people with drug/mental illlness issues screaming at each other etc etc. Sad that the nation's capitol has gone in this direction just steps away from the Parliament buildings.

Great location. Easy walk to the NAC and plenty of restaurants around.

Lots of homeless people around the hotel and no parking available. I had to parc at the neighbouring Arc hotel which felt unsafe at night, alone with my kids.

Very convenient location, just a 7 mins walk to Parlament Hill and 1 subway station to the byward market.

Clean, attractive,modern hotel in a great location. We were within walking distance of shopping, the Shaw centre, the byward market, some of the the museums as well as dining options. The room we had was 2 queens. It was a good size for 4 of us. The bathroom is large. Staff are friendly and helpful. A bar/restaurant is next to the lobby. You can get a drink or a light meal. There is even a pol table. Easy access to taxis and Uber.

Hotel novo e muito bem localizado e da para ir a pé para os pontos turísticos do centro. Tem varios locais para tomar café por perto. No hotel nao tem muita opcao boa. Somente um bar e sem muita comida. A limpeza foi boa e cama e chuveiro muito bons. Recomendaria para amigos com certeza.

No parking except an Indigo parking across the street that is accessible by car from the opposite block. No food service inside the hotel, only frozen plates.
