Magnolia Inn and Suites Southaven

The location is great if you're traveling out of Memphis International. However, when I walked into the room the smell of cooked food was overwhelming. Someone had clearly been in that room earlier in the day and prepared some sort of ethnic dish that smelled terrible. When you combine that with the fact that the AC was not on when I walked in the room (this was in mid-August and was over 92 degrees outside) it was just terrible. The mattress that I slept on was very old and worn and really had no support whatsoever. The owners really should invest in some new mattresses. The whole reason people stay in a hotel is to sleep. I've never understood why hotels buy cheap mattresses. The carpet in the room felt sticky and I didn't even want to walk on it barefooted. It desperately needed a cleaning. And the last thing was the guests right next door must have walked in and out of their room half a dozen times throughout the night. So their door was constantly slamming shut while I was trying to sleep. Not the owners fault on that one, but it just topped off the evening. Thankfully I only had to stay one night. I would have gone somewhere else for a second night had I needed to stay. Pros: close to interstate, food, shopping, Memphis Int'l, cost for the night was reasonable, and seemed like a safe area.

Nice staff and clean comfortable rooms. I do wish the air conditioner worked a little better but the room did get cool eventually.

The staff appeared to be primarily family. They smiled and appeared very warm. The breakfast was only cold cereal. The breakfast was disappointing. The location was great. It was an only an overnight stay. So, it was doable.
