This hotel is wonderful! We picked it based on location, price, and reviews. The staff is fabulous. On arrival, for check in, we were offered comfortable chairs, hot tea, and a warm washcloth. Madoka, the staff person who welcomed us, was so amazing. She showed us to our room, explained how everything worked, got me a large size kata to wear to the public bath, and was just so sweet and nice. The location is great, in the Gion neighborhood of eastern Kyoto, close to many highlights and historic places. For example, Kennin-ji, the first and oldest Zen temple in Japan, is one block away. There are also lots of great restaurants nearby to choose from. The hotel has a lovely spa / public bath, open from 3 pm to 10 am. I went every morning on our 3-night stay, and had it to myself 2 of 3 days. Another highlight of this hotel is the free neighborhood walking tour. It leaves at 10 am & takes about 90 minutes. Kenta, our tour guide, was great and full of local knowledge. You learn so much more on a guided tour than you can by just walking and looking on your own. History of major sights, and also explanations of little hidden things right in front of you. Breakfast buffet was excellent, a variety of Japanese and western items. Even a tempura chef! Our room was spacious and clean, modern with a nice aesthetic. And, the price was quite reasonable. I would definitely stay here again.

Check in was a breeze. The staff was very accommodating and helpful. Free transportation to and from Kyoto Station. The location was perfect walking distance to Hokan-Jo Temple. Going to the Onsen late at night was a perfect ending to a long walking day.

Hotellet havde en fin placering - tæt på diverse seværdigheder. Personalet var søde og rengøringen på værelset var helt i top. Billederne af hotellet var ret fine, men jeg synes egentlig at både værelse, onsen og deres barområde virkede ret træt og ikke af den standard de slår sig op på. Det skal dog siges, at det var fint med deres happy hour drink/snack fra 16-18.

I stay at hotels 190 nights a year. This hotel is definitely a hotel I’m going to remember. The experience starts with a check-in tea “ceremony”. The staff was out of this world. So professional and polite. After the check-out, a staff member bowed deeply to us as we left. Extremely nice room with all the amenities you can imagine. The guest lounge with free drinks and snacks was a nice bonus you don’t see much these days. The breakfast is worth every penny, with wagyu beef and duck. And eggs made as you please. To sum up, one of the absolute best hotels I’ve stayed at. The staff make this experience exceptional. I’m blown away.

Its a good location and the rooms was well appointed. The highlight of the stay was the local tour provided by the concierge. Super interesting and he was really knowledgeable. There a few things of no huge concern that we didn't care for - the bar was tiny and the staff generally we not very flexible in our requests. The public onsen facility if good.

3度目の逗留ですが、今回も快適に過ごすことができました。我が家は車で移動するので、駐車場があるお宿を優先的に選ぶのですが、こちらは八坂の閑静な（ぎっしりと料亭や老舗が建ち並ぶ）ロケーションにあるにも関わらず、停めやすい駐車場をお待ちです。ありがたい！ 京都に車を乗り入れることへの罪悪感は感じつつ、ホテルに車を預けたら、あとは公共の交通機関を使って移動します。 予約しておけば、車の置き場所を求めてウロウロしなくて良いのはポイントが高いです。駐車場所はあらかじめ割り当てられているので、ベルボーイさんに案内してもらってください。丁寧に誘導してくれます。 建仁寺さんがすぐお隣です。清々しく掃き清められた境内を通って祇園へお散歩できます。京都に住んでいるような、素敵な旅の拠点です。またお世話になります。

The hotel is a bit old. You can see the wallpaper slightly tearing off. The walls are thin and you can hear the neighbor’s TV sounds. But overall the location is great and is very close to all the activities in Kyoto.

Hotel was absolutely beautiful. Very serene and lovely, was exactly what we were looking for on a vacation to Kyoto. Staff was super helpful, spoke English well. It was nice to return to the hotel after long, hot days of touring in the summer.

Loved everything about this hotel…from the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel welcomed and valued. The room was spotless, spacious, and beautifully decorated, the public bath was perfect after a long day of site-seeing & walking. The location was ideal, nice & quiet with easy access to nearby attractions and public transportation…Would highly recommend

とても良いお部屋でした。スタッフの対応も良くリラックスして滞在を楽しむことが出来ました。大浴場もレストランもよかったです。 ただ、インターネットが非常に低速で、Web会議をすることは出来ませんでした。ですので、予定していた会議は外のネットカフェに行かなければなりませんでした。レジャーでの滞在のときは是非また使いたいと思いますが、仕事があるときには別のホテルを選ぶと思います。

Beautiful hotel nestled in the Gion area. As soon as you enter they have a beautiful relaxed seating in the lobby area with a view of the garden. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. The rooms are good size and beds are very comfortable and clean. Bathrooms and showers were great! Location is perfect - very walkable towards the Gion sights and shrines on one side, and across the river in the other direction are some amazing restaurants, bars and shopping that one can walk to. Would highly recommend.
Beautiful hotel nestled in the Gion area. As soon as you enter they have a beautiful relaxed seating in the lobby area with a view of the garden. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. The rooms are good size and beds are very comfortable and clean. Bathrooms and showers were great! Location is perfect - very walkable towards the Gion sights and shrines on one side, and across the river in the other direction are some amazing restaurants, bars and shopping that one can walk to. Would highly recommend.

Like: The staff was amazing, attentive and professional from the time we arrived to the time we left. We had minor deposit box/AC issues but both were resolved immediately to our satisfaction. Our room was spacious for the Gion area with walking distance to many great temples/shrines with restaurants close by. Breakfast buffet was very good. Hotel provided hourly transportation to/from Kyoto Station. Not Like (minor): Not many queen/king rooms available (more twin/delux twin beds), dinner must be reserved a day in advance and shower takes a little bit of getting used to. Overall: Enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back again.

The Celestine Gion is beautiful 4.5 star hotel in the heart of Gion, the primary touristic part of Kyoto. Its location on a quiet side street means that you won’t be bothered by the hellish nightmare of over tourism that Kyoto endures. The rooms are stylish and smart. The bathroom set up may seem jarring to some at first, but it actually is quite tasteful and clearly a design feature and not some sort of workaround. The spa is peaceful and elegant. The staff is excellent and attentive by even the highest standards. This is truly a low key beauty of a hotel and I would recommend it to anyone who isn’t looking for a large resort style or business hotel experience.

Location is good & its nice property ( think doubletree by Hilton type ) but at just over £300 per night without breakfast it was without a doubt overpriced We had a ground floor room ( it’s called 1st floor but the ground floor is basement ) beside the lift, the lift was not troublesome but the room was dark & you could only see the sky by lying on the floor by the window, limited hotel facilities, makeshift bar in the evening , they need to manage expectations if they are going to charge over £300 per night room only, there are better hotels nearby for the same price, we did not stay during blossom week or golden week, just a normal time, disappointed, would not return

Service was extraordinary! Staff handled reservations for incredible restaurants. Plus, we took advantage of the free tour of Gion, the shuttle to the station and happy hour. Sheets, towels, bath and amenities were sumptuous.

We loved the Celestine, and would not hesitate to recommend it. Starting with the shuttle service, all staff we encountered were lovely especially the young lady at the front of the hotel (porter ?), location was perfect. We did not eat at the hotel

First and most, the quality of attentiveness received from the staff is truly special. At check in you don’t have to be standing at front desk, you can sit down relaxing while the staff is helping you check in process. All staff members have most beautiful manners ( just way they bow is elegant and in perfection ). They also help you above and beyond. Any request such as getting more tea bags or opening my safe ( I locked by accident) was taken care of such speedy and very pleasant manner. Concierge helped me tremendously for an exceptional dinner reservation. ( family and friends of 7) at Karoku ( great yakiniku and classic Japanese style). The lobby smells always nice and beautiful flower arrangement. The room is spacious and very tastefully decorated. The bed is comfortable. It was a pleasure going to large baths for gusts ( called Spa ). The location Gion is great. You can go many places just walking. Very romantic walking down Gion street. The bar is cozy. The bartender was very attentive and I enjoyed chatting with him since I was alone from my family at that time.

Staff were very professional and friendly. We had to head back to Tokyo one day early due to typhoon. They understood our situation and gave us the refund for the last day even though it was a last minute decision to leave early. The rooms were clean and had very comofortable bed. The staff was polite but need to be more attentive to the questions from the guests. To be honest I was having trouble with getting my ticket changed and asked the concierge for help but they told me I have to handle it myself. This is frustrating as the Celestine is suppose to be a high end hotel recommended even from the chat got.

I stay at hotels 190 nights a year. This hotel is definitely a hotel I’m going to remember. The experience starts with a check-in tea “ceremony”. The staff was out of this world. So professional and polite. After the check-out, a staff member bowed deeply to us as we left. Extremely nice room with all the amenities you can imagine. The guest lounge with free drinks and snacks was a nice bonus you don’t see much these days. The breakfast is worth every penny, with wagyu beef and duck. And eggs made as you please. To sum up, one of the absolute best hotels I’ve stayed at. The staff make this experience exceptional. I’m blown away.

Celestine Kyoto is a beautiful property however some service areas need improvement. 1. while waiting for the shuttle bus the staff pressured us that we must wait inside in the waiting room, this is not a decision that can be made from the staff, the customer can wait wherever he/she wishes. 2. the bar next to the entrance of the hotel is ridiculous, who would want to sit in such a suffocating ambiance, we tried it one night but never returned. 3. a quaint and small bar in the lobby would be a much better solution. 4. when waiting in the lobby for our tour guide, several employees would approach us to ask if we were waiting to check in, it seems that there is no communication between the staff, when one staff approaches the customer then the message should be relayed to the rest of the reception staff. 5. poor english language TV 6. sometimes communicating in English was difficult, however the staff tries to please.

Property is beautiful, but a bit off the beaten track. Hotel offers 1 restaurant with a set menu, and if you have any dietary restrictions- they are not able to accommodate. They have a limited bar in a small room that opens at 7pm, until then they do offer from 1pm-6pm dry snacks, juice, coffee & teas complimentary. Rooms are tight but very efficient- lighting in the bathroom if low. For 1st timers my recommendation would be to situate yourself near downtown- near restaurants and shops. Kyoto is a very walkable city, and taxi’s and Ubers are readily available.

This is a great hotel. Our room was lovely and well appointed. Staff were helpful and welcoming. The shuttle bus was really handy. The dining room is a little small which made breakfast a little crowded. Close to the temples and the heart of Gion. Would definitely recommend.

The hotel itself is beautiful, as are the rooms but the walls are paper thin and hearing your neighbours have conversations isn’t ideal Breakfast was nothing short of terrible, five days of the same dishes on repeat. If I could give this location 10 stars, I would do so immediately. Their concierge team was amazing with answering our questions pre arrival. They have a shuttle Service from Kyoto Station directly to the hotel if you are arriving via Shinkansen. Only a 15 minute trip. Check-in was quick and done while seated in the lobby. Nothing at the desk to allow for a more personalized check-in experience. Our host was amazing at answering all of our questions and providing us a listing of local restaurants to dine. (They will also assist in securing reservations for dining which I highly recommend.) BOOK THE BREAKFAST for your stay. The buffet was amazing and so tasty. They have a Japanese and Western section of the buffet but we didn’t touch the wester side at all. The staff was so attentive and gracious that words cannot go into detail how we were treated. The chef who created all of the tempura and other items was top tier. I recommend the berry tea with black vinegar for a drink. We booked a deluxe twin non-smoking room. Plenty of room for the two of us. The in-room amenities were also great and extremely useful. There is an on-site public bath that you will have access to during your stay. Robes/appropriate clothing is provided in the room to use. If you have tattoos, the front desk can provide coverings prior to usage on the bath. You are in the heart of Gion, so everything is within walking distance. No need for car/taxi etc. Cannot wait to go back.
