A must stay in Kyoto. Hotel is located right on the river in a central area that’s easy to walk to restaurants and shops. They served a traditional Japanese breakfast and even accommodated my vegan diet. The hotel is basic, no amenities, but the room and bathroom were quite large. We had a great experience.

We loved how conveniently located this property is. The rooms were a good size and very well-appointed. Plus very quiet. The only downside is the lack of a restaurant or bar on the premises.

Great property, service, location, all the amenities, (unless you want gym/pool/restaurant). Breakfast in room was great. Only complaint, our room had some windows without blackout treatments, but an eye mask solved that easily. Would stay again!

The hotel says they offered breakfast - I would not take this option. It’s a breakfast that comes from somewhere else. The staff were not very helpful when I said I was a vegetarian Otherwise the rooms are large and the area is well located for tourists

This hotel was in a good location in/near Gion- very quiet area but just a few blocks from the more crowded areas. The room was very large and had nice amenities including an excellent bathroom and modern shower/bath/steam room. Note there is no laundry area at this hotel but there is a coin laundry nearby and the front desk will point you there and provide some detergent pods, which was much appreciated. Also, while it was noted that a breakfast supplement was available, you have to order it by noon the prior day- the hotel is relatively small and they don’t have their own restaurant, so they have to order it from elsewhere. We never ended up doing this. However, in Kyoto few places open early for breakfast. We found a couple and on other days we picked up some pastries the day before to have something to start the day with. In the room they had a water kettle and tea, and what at first looked like instant coffee packets, but turned out to only be coffee creamer. They may just not be familiar with the difference. We found some instant coffee at 7-11. As an English speaker with little Japanese language fluency, I didn’t feel like I was able to leverage much assistance from the staff for local recommendations or help with reservations, just the bare minimum, but they were eager to help on things we could easily communicate about.

A very nice hotel right by the river and very close to Gion and Nishiki market. Rooms are big with really nice river view. excellent bathroom and separate toilet. no restaurant but the hotel owner provides ready made western or japanese breakfast either in the room or downstairs separate eating area. Very attentive and friendly staff. Having travelled around the world and having top tiers in many hotel reservation frequent traveller programs i can say that this hotel is among the top. In the future when visiting Kyoto I will stay here.

三条から近く、アクセスの良い場所です。 素晴らしく綺麗です。 強いて言えば大きめのスプーンとフォークがあればなおよし。 清掃面ではお風呂の床はもう少し丁寧めに掃除いただければパーフェクトかなぁと。天然石の床だけにもったいないですね。

The room was spacious, with a nice table and chairs and counter space. Our room had a balcony overlooking the river. The shower was nice with a luxurious deep soaking tub and a mounted TV above the tub! Easily one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in.

Really surprised by the spacious, wonderful room at this hotel. It was double the size of most hotel rooms I’ve stayed at all over Japan and the shower/bathtub was just unbelievable. They definitely had a lot of switches for all the accessories and lights for the room but that’s how much each room has in terms of amenities and convenience. The location couldn’t be any better in Kyoto and the staff was great. They even helped me get a reservation at a restaurant that I wanted to visit. A+++

Wonderful attention to details in the room. Spacious luxury in our corner room overlooking the river. Two layers of double-pane glass dampen the road noise to an acceptable level for us and was outweighed by the convenience of the location, so much within walking distance. Staff were eagerly helpful. Highly recommend overall.

Love this place so much! Room is huge and facing Kamo river. The view is enchanting in the morning and sunset. Staffs are all nice and speaks good english (big plus in Japan). Quiet room despite being in front of the road because it has double sliding door. Huge bathroom with huge tub complete with micro bubble. I would never stay anywhere else in Kyoto, and this is our third time in Kyoto.

The room was very large and well equipped with automation for drapes and lighting. It also had a very functional bath with great amenities including a micro bubble bath and large shower. We loved the modern but classic look of the hotel common areas and room. The staff was very attentive and made us feel very welcome. The location is excellent with the Gion historical district nearby and several train / subway stations available. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and plan to stay here the next time we visit Kyoto.

The thermostat automatically readjusts to 26 Celcius after a few hours. This wasn't very pleasant since it was sweltering and humid in Osaka and every night I would wake up sweaty and have to get up and bump it back down to 24 degrees. The nightly rate here wasn't cheap and I'm annoyed I couldn't control the room temperature where I needed it.

This was a very charming hotel that had great amenities, great location and extremely nice staff. I had an eye issue that needed attention when I was there and Lulu and Dinda were extremely helpful in getting me an appointment with a specialist within a hour of me checking in. Amazing!! as it was a late friday afternoon as well. Thank you:) I would definitely stay here again with my family if we revisit Kyoto!!

This property is close to Sanjo Station where it was easy to connect with public transportation or find a taxi. Easy walk to Nishiki Market, Pontocho Alley, Yasaka Shrine, Maruyama Park, Tsujiri Tea House (delicious refreshments with Uji matcha, stocked up with creamy latte mixes for home) and so much more. Rooms are quiet. Beds are nice. Loved the shower and tub wetrooms. Micro bubbles were cool. Brought our mineral salts to have our nightly onsen after a long day of walking. We had an emergency and had to rebook at the last minute, so they did not have one room left for the duration of our stay. We had to book multiple different kinds of rooms and change twice during the week. The staff moved our suitcases for us to the next room and we just picked up our new room key when we returned from touring. They were able to receive and ship our bags to the next hotel. They helped us make restaurant reservations and we had a nice Shabu Shabu style meal in a private room at the restaurant across the way. It made travel to Gion easy. Highly recommend.

This property was is such a good location. Right across from the river. There is a beautiful walking path along the river that you can take to get to any of the main streets of Kyoto. The hotel staff was so friendly & accommodating. I appreciated that this was a quieter part of Kyoto but, walking distance to any popular destination & amazing food spots! Would definitely recommend!

We had a very nice three night visit. We enjoyed the breakfast ( and very much appreciated the extra mile in delivering one for 6:00 am the day we had an early start). The location is wonderful, our room had a river view and when we stepped out the hotel right into Gion and its wonderful ambiance.

Hotel Alza was so well located near the train station and walking distance to lots of bars, restaurants, areas like Pontocho Alley and Gion district and Nishi Market. The beds were super comfortable by Western standards, the room was huge in space and well stocked. I loved my city view Double room because it had a cute seating area around a little tea set table couch. I would definitely stay here again!

Das Frühstück wurde jeden Morgen zur gewünschten Zeit auf das Zimmer gebracht. Entweder westliche oder japanische Auswahl, beides hat uns sehr gut gefallen! Auch die Lage ist super. Wir können dieses Hotel wirklich nur empfehlen und würden hier immer wieder übernachten! Danke für einen tollen Aufenthalt in Kyoto :o).

A must stay in Kyoto. Hotel is located right on the river in a central area that’s easy to walk to restaurants and shops. They served a traditional Japanese breakfast and even accommodated my vegan diet. The hotel is basic, no amenities, but the room and bathroom were quite large. We had a great experience.

I am perfectly glad and satisfied with my stay at Alza Hotel Kyoto. The location is excellent—very convenient for exploring the city yet peaceful and comfortable. Hotel Alza is a lovely boutique hotel in a great location in Gion. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The room size is very generous for Japanese standards and the amenities ( like micro bubble bath ) are super enjoyable. 2 things to improve: the breakfast is very limited in choice and more like a prepacked version rather than a lovely food option. We had to eat it in our room because dining area downstairs is too limited to cater for all guests. Also, for what we paid I would have expected an English language channel on TV or at least the possibility to connect to Netflix. Otherwise, we had a nice stay. Thank you 😊
