Overall a brilliant hotel and stay. Only downside is the parking which is limited and expensive

The hotel has been beautifully restored from council offices to a stunning hotel - retaining a lot of the original features- the dining room was the old courthouse with a good architect and interior designer they have created a beautiful room- with lovely food, service and a well stocked bar with really good cocktails- I would highly recommend a visit

This is my third stay at the Indigo and it did not disappoint. My daughter is a U.S. student at Durham and so we love the proximity to her college and the town. The staff is very helpful and accommodating, and the property is clean. The bar and restaurant are both good as is the cafe in the lobby. The Indigo is my hotel of choice when in Durham and I highly recommend it!

Great rooms and a fabulous restaurant onsite but also surrounded by shops and pubs/restaurants. Staff were all lovely.

Great hotel in an amazing building - old county hall. 2 mins walk to town. Excellent breakfast, nice, modern, very clean rooms. Parking a bit expensive but that's the price you pay for being in the centre of town

We parked at the hotel (midweek) with no problem, though it was expensive (£20.20 with Ringo app). The hotel was well presented with interesting decor, wall art and stained glass windows, the room was a good size with everything we needed. Location was perfect, short walk to the town centre and Cathedral. Staff were helpful and friendly. Dinner at the restaurant was excellent and breakfast also. Would recommend and return.

Greater location in Dunham, parking overnight was £20 but not highlighted when booking and limited Hotel was good but waited over 30mins for room to be ready on a 15:00 check in, not ideal. Got 2 drinks for free but inconvenient as we had plans. Breakfast was best part of stay. Would probably look elsewhere next time but I'd expect no inconvenience if went back.

I was impressed. The hotel has character and the position and facilities are impressive. Nice bar. Didn’t sample the restaurant but it looked busy. I will return on my next trip to Durham.

The rooms were clean and spacious lovely everything you needed shower had great water pressure super hot and the soaps and balms were lovely the food was deli ous and thestaff were friendly and helpful i highly recommend this hotel breakfast menu caters for everyone .

Room was in desperate need of updating. Badly chipped furnishings, filthy net curtains and floor. We expected more from a hotel of this price and name

This is one of the best hotels I have stayed in for a long time. Absolutely beautiful building, extremely skilfully converted to a hotel. The welcome from the front desk person on our arrival at 10.30pm was wonderful. She seemed genuinely pleased to have us at the hotel. The room was spotless with the bathroom excellent with a great shower. Breakfast was delicious and served with joy and love. The bar was nice and the bar staff equally lovely. The staff are an absolute credit to this hotel. So cheerful, welcoming, and polite. Absolutely no complaints at all - which is rare for me :-)

Lovely short stay. The bar staff were lovely. The reason for 4* rating is that the chamber staff didn’t do a thorough job of cleaning the room.

Disappointing attic room, not possible to open the windows and the AC would not cool below a fixed ‘19 degrees’ - far too warm and very stuffy. Bathroom extractor sounded like a Harley Davidson. Very small room for two people and decor badly scuffed in places. Staff very friendly and breakfast good. Good location.

Customer service and restaurant/ breakfast service were amazing. They really look after you well at this hotel. Our room was lovely but the windows were high so you couldn’t see out of them. We usually stay at another hotel in Durham when visiting our daughter at uni and always enjoy the stunning views. It’s a shame we couldn’t see out of the windows, otherwise, this would be our new ‘go to’ hotel in Durham.

I found the room lighting is too dark. The spotlight is only enough for reading and the rest of the room remained rather dark.

The Hotel Indigo is full of character and charm. It’s very conveniently located for Ciy centre activities. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. One small improvement would be better lighting in the bedroom area, it’s quite dimly lit.

Horrible. I booked 3 rooms for 3 nights in December and requested for connecting rooms if not in the same floor. Trip of 6 with two elderly (one of whom has dementia), two children, my husband and I. Called ahead of my arrival to alert we are on our way from Durham. They put our rooms on seperate levels (actually, it’s on the same level but read on and you’ll see why I call it seperate level) . Rooms given were of a lower grade than what I booked too. Promised me they would rectify by the morning. So we cldnt really unpack and had to pack again to store our luggages in their office. Danny (lady at reception) told me in the morning the room numbers 216, 218 and 226 will be prepared for me as we left to tour the place. Assured me that 218 is the best room they have and it will be ours. Great! Happy customer. To our horror when we returned at 4pm, they told us they sold the room 218. Alex (manager) tried to sort it out. He was the only one who apologised and tried to service recover. He gave us a free dinner and waived the parking. Overall, be warned. Rooms are very confusing. Level 2 rooms are numbered 400s. Reception does not have Conceirge. Will not take your bags for you. Have to do it yourself. Our first night, with rooms across two levels, we were lost. Cos the two lifts do not connect the floors. We had to take one lift to LG or G, across a corridor, up another lift and to the room. A ‘simpler’ way is to walk down an ‘internal’ staircase, past 8-10 rooms…

Lovely stay and the lady on reception (I think her name was Katie) was great. Would definitely return.

We booked a long weekend to celebrate my wife’s birthday and anniversary of coming to Durham university. Right from the reception on arrival, the staff were outstanding: friendly, personal and very professional. We could not have wished for a warmer welcome.

Unfortunately on the morning we were due to leave my husband hurt his back and couldn't travel. I phoned and explained the situation asking if we could rearrange but was flatly refused and was told I should have let them know the day before !

The lady working the desk at night was great. During the day it was difficult to get someone to come out of their back room to the desk and I never did get anyone to answer the phone at the front desk during the day. There needs to be a bell or something at the front desk to let staff know you are waiting.

The hotel property is quite unique set in a former council building especially the bar and restaurant which are located in the former council chambers. The most striking feature of the hotel however is the excellent service provided by all of the fantastic staff. The location is unbeatable allowing you to easily explore the city centre and the river walk. Many excellent restaurants and coffee shops are within 500 yards and the city attractions are very walkable from the hotel.

Beautiful building. Nice room. Staff at check in were really friendly and we were delighted to receive a complimentary room upgrade at check in. Only thing that spoiled the experience was being forced to pay for that upgrade at check out, even though it was expressly described to us as complimentary. It was explained the charge was because I was not ‘a member’. When I explained that their colleague had been aware I was not a member but had upgraded us and confirmed there was no charge - no response or any attempt to verify this. Not even any expression of regret for any possible misunderstanding. I was made to feel like I had tried to get away with not paying a charge, when it seemed to be the hotel’s mistake, or a breakdown in communication on their side. I was in a rush and did not have time to argue, so just paid. I am unlikely to return to this hotel or the chain due to this service.

Good location

Stayed with my wife for our anniversary and was upgraded to a large room. The hotel was lovely inside and the building itself felt grand. It was clean and fresh. Breakfast was cooked with attention to detail. The location was perfect for the centre which was a short 2 min stroll away. Very close to cathedral and river walk/resturants/bars. Car park on site. Highly recommend this place!

Great location near the city centre (hard to find a hotel any closer to the main centre). Clean, impressive building with nice well-appointed rooms. We'd certainly book again if we were returning to the area.

Hotel Indigo is brilliantly situated in the heart of Durham City and the hotel’s architecture is amazing! Big clean room with comfy bed and all creature comforts!

Nice hotel. Avocado on toast for breakfast was disappointing...this was readymade guacamole, not smashed avocado as listed. Otherwise great.

The hotel, is consistent with first rate staff, stellar rooms, and a brilliant breakfast. However, after several attempts at dinner over the last two years, I absolutely can not recommend, including feedback from others who expressed congruent feelings whilst attending separate events and dinners. In particular, the steaks were not even close to being well seasoned or cooked to the customer’s specifications. Additionally, when requesting a to go dessert, I was presented with a disclaimer form for which to sign on food contamination. Albeit I am blessed with an attorney in the family, understanding where the firm’s strategic drivers probably eminent, I thought it highly odd and worrisome; particularly for all the hype surrounding the chef and restaurant.

Staff were very helpful and polite, service was great in reception and also the restaurant. Food was very good, only one criticism of the breakfast, although being served hot (great) the sausage not being a proper butcher sausage was a let down. Not sure why when everything else was perfect that have to resort to cheap sausages. Seems finicky I know but come on make it right.

Overall it's a very good hotel. The restaurant in particular was excellent.

Excellent hotel - our third stay. We were looking forward to the breakfast as on our last two stays it was excellent. Bit disappointed this time We were down at nine but it looked as if everything had run out and not been replenished. Had to struggle to get service and espresso was luke warm. The hotel was fully booked so may be this was the problem. Would still return though lovely place to stay
