I came in for a doctors appointment in Anchorage and stayed here with my husband and two dogs. It was nice to be out of the city and I have the gorgeous views everywhere. I was able to get the rest and relaxation needed after the appointment. The rooms are spotless, comfortable, Spacious and beautiful views out the window. This is our go to spot whenever we come to Anchorage because it’s out of the city, quiet and everything we need is right there. Cannot say enough about this place.

Our booking through Expedia did not work so we arrived without a reservation but luckily they had a vacancy. Overall, everything you’d expect from a roadside motel/bar. If you’re passing by, I’d recommend you stop in for a drink at the very least.

Room was clean. Bed was comfy. Stairs up to the rooms are very steep and rickety. View from room was nice. Room had good amenities but no tv. Wifi connection was very slow...too slow to watch anything on your phone. All rooms are above the saloon which plays music until midnight every night. Difficult to sleep. Price is reasonable. Good Room for someone who stays out late.

Doors are not safe closures. It’s above a pub so don’t plan on sleeping good before midnight. Waitress was nice. Owner was nice. View and access to trails was great.

We had a great stay here! Although I do recommend changing your picture on Expedia to something else so people don’t think they are getting that cute mini cabin(false advertising), one other thing I have to mention is the check out time! Understandable that it’s 10 am, but when there’s no employees on site to assist with minor issues (we left a bag in the room and had to card/break in) then there’s no need to have it be at 10am. Other then those two minor things lady in bar was very kind &can make a mean burger!

If all you need is a bed and a shower, this place is good for the price. It's a very small room and a very small 1/2 bathroom (toilet and shower, with sink in the other room.) HOWEVER, there is no soap or shampoo supplied, so bring your own. There's also no TV and the WiFi is very slow, so don't plan on streaming anything either. There IS a small fridge, a mircrowave, and a coffee maker, so those are pluses. The rooms are upstairs from the bar, so I thought it might be loud, but the noise level wasn't bad. The stairs are a little sketchy and steep, watch your head on the roof at the top of the stairs if you are tall, and a large part of the second-level deck has been blocked off. The area around the property (especially in back) is badly littered. The room itself was clean. Like I said at the beginning, if all you need is a bed and a shower, this place is a good place to save some money...just bring your own soap/ shampoo.

Hopping bar, but not loud. Rooms are kind of tired and old, but clean. The stairs to the rooms are ready for replacement — I would not want to climb those stairs in the rain or ice!! The location on Seward highway is beautiful — close to some great hiking areas, birding, the boretide, beluga sightings.

Previous reviews seem to inflate the cleanliness of this property. The room was clean. I’ll admit that the stairs going up to the room and the weeds all around the property suggest that no one’s taking care of any of this place. The saloon was kind of cool except don’t order the salmon burger because it’s not real Salmon it’s pressed salmon, that was a disappointment. The poor woman working there was all alone cooking and serving and handing out keys to the rooms upstairs. Yes, the price was cheap.

The Brown Bear Saloon and Hotel was clean, comfortable, and cute. The staff were super friendly and we enjoyed chatting with other guests as we ate in the bar downstairs. Nice little park across the road from the hotel. This place is not fancy or luxurious, but it has everything you need for a safe and comfortable overnight stay.

The rooms were on the small side but absolutely perfect!!!! There was everything that you needed from a microwave to a mini fridge with a freezer to a coffee pot with coffee with the extras. The rooms were immaculate and the beds were super comfy. The bar below was great after a long day just to have dinner and an ice cold beer from tap. Sara who worked the bar was kind enough to let me know one night that there would be music and what time it would be done. I had my 2 pups with me and could not have asked for any place safer or more relaxing for them and myself. Definitely our go to spot when in the area!!! Thank you so much for everything.

Not as pictures, places is smell like moldy and most scary are there some mice came out from the heat vent and ran around in the small rooms. Will have nightmares just to crush one night. Turn around and don’t come back to this place

Left 2 hours after falling asleep. Was awakened by a cockroach crawling across my face! Dirty. Run down property. Decking on balcony leading to room rotted thru and a fall hazard.Lysol can left in hall outside rooms for smell. This property shook my confidence in Expedia as it should never be represented by a reputable company.

The room was extremely small. No chair nor room to put a chair. Would be a great stopping over place for one person like a backpacker/hiker needing a dry place to lay their head for a night. Room was clean, bed was comfortable, and staff was pleasant. Price was fair compared to other way more expensive places.

Amazing location with a beautiful view. 25 minutes south of Anchorage and 45 from Whittier. Plenty of trails and parks nearby. It was a very relaxing stay. The bar downstairs has good food. Denice and Sara were very friendly and had great suggestions on places to visit. Plus a 1/3 the price of a hotel in town. The room has a mini fridge and microwave. I would suggest getting some soap and shampoo prior to your visit as it’s not provided although there is a communal shelf in the hallway that had both plus books/dvds, paper bowls and seasonings. Obviously these aren’t guaranteed for every visit. The only con was that the rooms could use sound deadening, there was very little privacy sound-wise.

We were hoping for a place to stay along the Turnagain Arm on our last night in Alaska. The Brown Bear was just the spot. Our room was small and basic, but clean and comfy. Our window overlooked the mountains/water and we enjoyed watching the changing skies. We grabbed burgers in the saloon and they were delicious. We hiked a couple trails nearby. If we return to Alaska, we would be glad to stay at the Brown Bear Saloon & Hotel again.

Well, it’s a motel, so I didn’t expect too much. The room isn’t bad, with a sink beside the bed and a small fridge. But the shower takes forever to get hot and the bed is very noisy. You can also hear everything around you, the cars, the neighbour coughing, the toilets flushing… I gave it 3 out of 5, but it would be 2,5 if I could.

There IS a small fridge, a mircrowave, and a coffee maker, so those are pluses. The rooms are upstairs from the bar, so I thought it might be loud, but the noise level wasn't bad. The stairs are a little sketchy and steep, watch your head on the roof at the top of the stairs if you are tall, and a large part of the second-level deck has been blocked off. The area around the property (especially in back) is badly littered. The room itself was clean. Like I said at the beginning, if all you need is a bed and a shower, this place is a good place to save some money...just bring your own soap/ shampoo.

Sarah, the night manager of the Brown Bear Saloon graciously called us to ask of our arrival status while we were at the Anchorage airport...we had a 2.5 hour flight delay and we going to be late. We appreciated her call, which gave us assurance of a guaranteed late arrival. We loved the accommodations, and we enjoyed a couple of beverages at the friendly saloon after a very long day of travel.

I had an absolutely wonderful stay here and the employees were some of the most welcoming and friendly people I have ever met! The room was nice and clean with a beautiful view. The saloon downstairs had some great food and was a great time meeting some local residents. I cannot emphasize how great Sara, Denise, and Bae were. They went above and beyond to help me when I ran into some issues at the end of my trip. They were so great, that by the end of my first night there, I extended my stay another few days!

The misleading add clearly shows a cabin and then discusses a single room. We thought there were multiple cabins with single rooms. It is only a few rooms available over a bar. There was no clear way to check in, the stairs to the upstairs were old and rickety and there as one crappy chair to sit in on the upstirs porch behind a broken old Motel sign. There was a half full case of beer in the hall. It seemed like more of a hostel environment which would have been fine if that were clearly advertised. You could hear the music in the bar until they closed down. Would not stay again.

The Brown Bear Saloon and Hotel was clean, comfortable, and cute. The staff were super friendly and we enjoyed chatting with other guests as we ate in the bar downstairs. Nice little park across the road from the hotel. This place is not fancy or luxurious, but it has everything you need for a safe and comfortable overnight stay.

We had a great stay here! Although I do recommend changing your picture on Expedia to something else so people don’t think they are getting that cute mini cabin(false advertising), one other thing I have to mention is the check out time! Understandable that it’s 10 am, but when there’s no employees on site to assist with minor issues (we left a bag in the room and had to card/break in) then there’s no need to have it be at 10am. Other then those two minor things lady in bar was very kind &can make a mean burger!

I came in for a doctors appointment in Anchorage and stayed here with my husband and two dogs. It was nice to be out of the city and I have the gorgeous views everywhere. I was able to get the rest and relaxation needed after the appointment. The rooms are spotless, comfortable, Spacious and beautiful views out the window. This is our go to spot whenever we come to Anchorage because it’s out of the city, quiet and everything we need is right there. Cannot say enough about this place.

Amazing location with a beautiful view. 25 minutes south of Anchorage and 45 from Whittier. Plenty of trails and parks nearby. It was a very relaxing stay. The bar downstairs has good food. Denice and Sara were very friendly and had great suggestions on places to visit. Plus a 1/3 the price of a hotel in town. The room has a mini fridge and microwave. I would suggest getting some soap and shampoo prior to your visit as it’s not provided although there is a communal shelf in the hallway that had both plus books/dvds, paper bowls and seasonings. Obviously these aren’t guaranteed for every visit. The only con was that the rooms could use sound deadening, there was very little privacy sound-wise.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The motel is rustic, but clean and comfortable. The shower valve was loose, so it took some experimenting to get the temperature correct, but it wasn't too difficult. For being right on the Seward Highway, it was actually quiet and easy to sleep! My visitors had a great time, and since their first activity was a Prince William Sound cruise, the location was perfect.

Previous reviews seem to inflate the cleanliness of this property. The room was clean. I’ll admit that the stairs going up to the room and the weeds all around the property suggest that no one’s taking care of any of this place. The saloon was kind of cool except don’t order the salmon burger because it’s not real Salmon it’s pressed salmon, that was a disappointment. The poor woman working there was all alone cooking and serving and handing out keys to the rooms upstairs. Yes, the price was cheap.

Flew to Anchorage from Australia and drove straight to the Brown Bear. What a great first stop and first experience! It was 930pm but still able to order a couple kraut dogs and beers in a very friendly, cozy saloon with nice locals and killer decor. The room is very basic and small but clean with a great mattress and pillows. Not fancy…but we had a great night sleep and a wonderful experience.

Very good value for money given cost of rooms in Anchorage and only 30min to airport. Room was basic but clean and had microwave and fridge Bed was comfy. The food was decent and freshly cooked. We didn’t feel it was a welcoming bar though and the staff were a bit unfriendly to start with. Didn’t really make us feel too welcome and a bit in the way when we tried to play pool. However we did get ice for the room and the bar tender seemed to get more friendly as the night wore on.

We stayed in a room right above the bar and it was actually quiet in the room but we heard guest outside the room walking back and forth checking into the room . Rooms above the bar are very small but have a bathroom with a shower. Very clean. The Bar has the best Hamburgers ever. Staff at the bar was totally fantastic. A very highly recommended Alaska experience with the local crowd. They do charge a $25.00 pet fee which is non refundable and on this Hotles.com it does not mention that only it is pet friendly.
