Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Free coffee and sake daily. Clean facility. Washer/dryer in room definitely a time saver, but the dryer function doesn’t dry your clothes well. The full wash and dry cycle take 3-4 hours.

We were pleasantly surprised with the niceness of this hotel. It looks pretty generic from the picture, but it's decorated quite nicely inside. The room is small but comfortable. There actually was more room than I was expecting. The bathroom reminds me of a cruise ship bathroom, but was fine. The staff were very friendly and there are a lot of toiletries available in the lobby which came in handy because I had left a few things at the previous hotel in a drawer. The only negative was that we had booked this specifically because it had a washing machine, but the washing machine kept going into an error state after a load. We did one load, then in the morning it wouldn't start and had an error. I reported it to the front desk, and they said they would fix it. It worked that night, but again in the morning it was in error. We had a lot of laundry we had planned to do, but were unable to, unfortunately.

A place to stay!!! Pros: It’s in a premium spot: subway is 1 min walk. Shops, restaurants is literally downstairs. Very clean and quiet, staff wonderful.10 min walk from Gion district. Pros +: Practical self service of water, soft drinks and even sake and toiletteries articles. They gave us free coupons to try the Koe doughnuts downstairs (worth it!!) It’s all those little « plus » that made our stay memorable. There is a washer/dryer and detergent, microwave and small kitchen appliances in the room. We were a family of 3 ( one seventeen yr old) room are small, but larger then we expected for Japan (we come from Canada). Courteous and friendly staff and very clean hotel. This is our first time with Tokyu hotel chain and we were very impressed.

The hotel had a great mascot “color your stay” it was really cute. The location was right in the SHINKYOGOKU arcade. Easy access to walk right into a cute alley. Tons of sightseeing and shopping with excellent proximity to the hotel. I was impressed with the instant hot water, lots of lighting options. Services in the hotel were fast fiber WiFi, in room laundry. It was great. Looking forward to returning soon!

Great hotel! Very clean, very modern. Loved having laundry in room. Staff is helpful. We got coupon for free coffee and donuts at the place downstairs. That was fun. Very convenient to a lot of shops and restaurants but it’s a hike to the shrines and temples on the other side of the river. The lobby is really nice, with free drinks and sake, but I wish the seating were more comfortable.

Love that we have a washing machine inside our room to wash our dirty clothes at night, and have dry, clean clothes in the morning. The room was good enough for 3 adults to move. There’s free drinks and coffee in the lobby. Also has free sake at night.

Great location right next to Kyoto-Kwaramachi Station and easy access to the city buses. Downstairs was the shopping strip including Nishinippori Markets around the corner. We were two adults in a 2x single room. It was a good size room and included a small table with 2 chairs. Room facilities were excellent including washer/dryer, microwave, kettle, hair care and body soap. The hotel had free coffee in the lobby. I would definitely stay here again. 5 stars!

Literally steps to the Nishiki market/mall. Can shop till you drop and walk over to the hotel just like that. Excellent dining all around walking distance. Even if it rains, the mall/market is mostly covered so you can shop and not waste the day. Very clean and modern boutique hotel. Free sake in the evenings and large lobby to hang out. Close to train and bus stops. Hotel offers breakfast (catered - no restaurant) in-house) but can opt out as there are several cafes nearby.

Having had positive stays at other Tokyu Stay locations, we were very excited to stay at the Tokyu Stay Kyoto Sakaiza Shijo-Kawaramachi hotel. The location was great, and the staff was always warm and welcoming. Unfortunately, our triple room seemed like it hadn’t been used in some time before being given to us. There was dust on the flat surfaces and even the tv remote (I took pictures, just in case), and the bathroom had a foul sewer like smell that didn’t dissipate until day 2. It seemed like they didn’t put care into ensuring the room was guest ready. We only stayed 2 nights, so it didn’t seem worth the hassle of requesting a room change. We would stay there again, as the location and staff were great, but would request that the room be cleaned and checked prior to use.

Excellent location with easy access to restaurants, metro and sights. Nishiki market is one of the streets/corridors off the main walkway from the hotel. Worth experiencing. Only complaint is the odor in the bathroom which is musty. Coffee machine in lobby is great.

The staff were exceptionally kind and helpful throughout our stay, which really enhanced our experience. The room was impressively spacious, especially by Japanese hotel standards, and was kept impeccably clean. A standout feature was the in-room washer/dryer, which we used multiple times during our stay and found incredibly convenient. The hotel is at a good location, but the bathroom smelled. They offered a room change after they couldn’t fix the bathroom smell after the 1st night. We stayed as the smell was isolated. Unfortunately the room was very dusty, by 3rd and last night, my allergies had gotten really bad. I’d like to stay here again, but they need to fix the house keeping situation before I will give it another chance

We stayed 3 nights in a superior twin room. This hotel is on the small side but is extremely close to the Nishiki market as well as a ton of other shopping. We had a bit of a walk (15 minutes or so) from the Shinkansen station to the hotel, but it was very close to other bus stops and metro stations so it just depends on where you are going. Kyoto attractions are a bit spread out so there is no hotel that will give easy access to all of them, but this was a good option. The twin beds were long enough for me (6'3") and were a bit firm as beds in this country often are. We arrived before check in time and dropped off our bags. The friendly staff but our bags in our room for us before we returned, and they were the only hotel that did that our entire trip. The washer was extremely convenient although all the buttons are in Japanese so it was not intuitive on how it worked. With a little help from Google translate and ChatGPT we figured it out. We did not use the dryer function (it's a combo machine) so I can't speak to how well that worked. Detergent was provided.

I really enjoyed my stay here. The location was great - it was off a tiny alley within 50 feet from Nishiki market, so shopping and dining options were endless. The hotel itself is not next to a street that allows cars so you have to be dropped off in the main street and walk a short distance to the hotel. There’s a lot of shops and restaurants in the primary street as well and very close to train stations. The hotel was very nice and modern. They had ice and water in the lobby to refill water bottles and they provide free coffee/hot cocoa/juice/soda and even give free sake shots in the afternoon. The only con was the small hotel room - much smaller than my other two hotels - but the bed was very comfortable. I’d definitely come back and pick this place again.

The staff at the hotel are exceptional. When we were leaving to Osaka, we asked general transportation. However when we checked out, staff actually wrote down exactly which train routes and time. I would visit here again without any hesitation.

I wouldn’t really recommend the hotel as I found the staff whom you hardly interact with unlike staff in other Japanese hotels who go out of their way to help u, here u have a mix of helpful and indifferent lot , plus room cleaning is ? , you have to request it , considering the room as it is not cheap … I found it an absolute waste of money spent …. The only advantage is the location , which has a ton of eateries and shopping around the corner .., maybe Tokyo spoilt me , but I would definitely not stay here if I am in Tokyo next

The location of this hotel is great. It is what we liked most about our stay here. You literally walk out onto the Shinkyogoku shopping arcade and Koe Donuts is right downstairs too. What stood out for us was that hotel staff was not very friendly compared to ALL other hotels we have stayed at in Japan over the years. 50% of the time, no one sitting at the front reception desk would even look at us or acknowledge us, which was highly unusual for a Japan hotel. They would simply stare at their computer screens even when not helping any guests. Room service was also a bit spotty and after our room was "cleaned" twice, we would find the trash can out of place, sink area a bit messy, etc. Hotel was clean overall and location was great. I think the staff needs more customer service training.

We loved the room and the lobby and the area, but the absolute best thing about Tokyo Stay Kyoto was the staff. So helpful and willing to assist for common tasks like sending our luggage to our next destination to the more unusual request to help me find a place to buy a carp streamer. We loved our stay here also because of the location and how easy it was to pop back over to the hotel during the day for a quick break. Top notch all around!

The rooms are really comfortable, the location's great -- you have the market and the subway steps away and can easily walk to Gion. The staff are wonderful, they go above and beyond and the hotel offers amenities from toothbrushes and combs to free coffee, soft drinks, and complementary sake and wine. Would stay there again.

Location is great. Inside the covered market streets. Walk out and you are right there. Subway station steps away. Nishiki market is 5 minute walk. You are steps away from the main boulevard with all the designer stores if that’s what you want. Gion area is a 15 minute walk. Modern facilities in hotel, rooms are large and washer/dryer was key. Japanese service is excellent anywhere you go.

We stayed 3 nights in a superior twin room. This hotel is on the small side but is extremely close to the Nishiki market as well as a ton of other shopping. We had a bit of a walk (15 minutes or so) from the Shinkansen station to the hotel, but it was very close to other bus stops and metro stations so it just depends on where you are going. Kyoto attractions are a bit spread out so there is no hotel that will give easy access to all of them, but this was a good option. The twin beds were long enough for me (6'3") and were a bit firm as beds in this country often are. We arrived before check in time and dropped off our bags. The friendly staff but our bags in our room for us before we returned, and they were the only hotel that did that our entire trip. The washer was extremely convenient although all the buttons are in Japanese so it was not intuitive on how it worked. With a little help from Google translate and ChatGPT we figured it out. We did not use the dryer function (it's a combo machine) so I can't speak to how well that worked. Detergent was provided.

The hotel is in the heart of a shopping district within walking distance of Gion. We loved the location. Inside the hotel it’s very quiet and relaxing. There’s free coffee in the morning and sake in the evening. The bed and room were very comfortable. Having a washer and dryer was also very convenient. Only suggestion is to add some shelves for clothes. There isn’t a dresser or shelves so we had to keep clothes in our suitcase.

Right off a main street and near a train stop. The actual hotel entrance is in an alley, but there's boutique stores and some good food located in the vicinity. The hotel is quiet and comfortable with tea and sake service in the afternoon. The staff are very considerate and informative.

I really enjoyed my stay here. The location was great - it was off a tiny alley within 50 feet from Nishiki market, so shopping and dining options were endless. The hotel itself is not next to a street that allows cars so you have to be dropped off in the main street and walk a short distance to the hotel. There’s a lot of shops and restaurants in the primary street as well and very close to train stations. The hotel was very nice and modern. They had ice and water in the lobby to refill water bottles and they provide free coffee/hot cocoa/juice/soda and even give free sake shots in the afternoon. The only con was the small hotel room - much smaller than my other two hotels - but the bed was very comfortable. I’d definitely come back and pick this place again.

The hotel was located in a very convenient area with lots of transit, shopping and restaurants close by. The lobby was beautiful and we loved the drinks station. The donut shop under the hotel was very good and we bought breakfast there on multiple days. The room was a bit small, but likely standard for an Asian country. The hotel was great, it was pretty central to a bunch of shopping and it was also close to alot of bus stops and stations. it wasn't more than a 15 minute walk to the farthest stations we needed to get to where wanted. Some where just right there near the hotel. It's basically in the center of a shopping area with clothes, animal cafe's knifes food stalls. They also had pretty good free coffee and surprisingly free sake (which we didn't really part take of but it was a nice surprise.) The staff was also very nice and helpful when needed.
