First, be aware this is a very old property that had it been properly renovated could have project a retro-opulent atmosphere.... this hotel does not. Rather it just feels old and has lost its direction. The lobby and reception area have been massively compromised by a bar/lounge extension that tends to cramp and cheapen the experience. The hotel elements that could have added to the experience, (as an example the 80+ year old elevator) could have added charm and nostalgia had it been renovated to improve the experience while maintaining its early charm. Unfortunately, it is slow, creaky and feels unsafe. The very limited parking at the side of the hotel is insufficient and (considering the number of unhoused in it) does not appear safe.

The Parking is a huge issue. They have two rows of parking for about 20 cars. If you cant find a spot there you have to go a block and a half away to park. If no parking there you have to find your own parking. Yet they charge you $8 a night regardless. They have pay parking next door that costs an arm and a leg but more convenient than walking a block and a half with your stuff. Elevator takes forever, only fits 3 or 4 people. Pub on site is not great. Feels dirty and food options limited. Rooms are extremely small. Bathroom slightly bigger than a closet. Shower is like a phone booth, no room to turn, no shelves for shampoo, soap etc. Just all around an old beat down hotel. Would not recommend.

The ad for this hotel is misleading. There is limited parking on site, and additional parking 2 blocks away - it is all pay parking. Extra on top of the hotel fees. Also, it says there is a pool. There is no pool on site. It is across the road at the Y. I assume you have to pay for that as well. I did not ask, as i was disappointed with their false advertising.

The place was okay and the staff were friendly. My biggest beef would be that they advertised The hotel as having a pool. There is no pool. If you want to go swimming, they will let you into the YMCA (I'm about three blocks away) for free with your room card. In my opinion it was false advertising.

Check in and check out were quick and easy. Decent breakfast. The common areas and room were in very poor condition. The carpets are either very faded or very dirty and there were nicks, scrapes, and scuff marks all over the walls, trim, etc. The furniture in the two queen room was in poor condition and the roller blind was cheap, dirty, and broken, as was the window screen. The bathroom ceiling had recently been replaced and was still just drywall that hadn't been mudded, taped, or painted (it was also damaged in several places). The bathroom walls were painted over panelling, not drywall, and the makeup mirror had been mounted on external hardware, which did not look good at all. The bathtub was missing a plug so we could not give our little guy a shower. The whole place was covered in a layer of grime and was extremely outdated and the floor our room was on had a strong smell of body odor. Service was great but will not be back.

The hotel is older, but it did not feel like that inside. Smelled new, very clean. Room was quiet. Bed comfortable and all bedding was obviously fresh and clean. Staff is very helpful, and the hot breakfast was nice.

The good first. Staff were friendly and the breakfast was adequate. Hotel was kinda interesting in and old timey kind of way. The room was dirty. Looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in a couple of weeks and deep cleaned this decade. Bathroom fixtures/tiles were chipped and cracked. The worst part though was that my room overlooked the parking lot above the bar which turns into a nightclub (at least on Saturdays). Loud bass music and street noise into the wee hours. Also there was a food truck parked immediately below my window that had a loud generator running the whole time. Not much sleep to be had! Also it's in a sketchy part of town. I could have paid $8 to park in their parking lot, but it's tucked off the street so I feel safer parking my truck in the free street parking.

We checked into this room and immediately left, the room was terrible, the sheets were dirty, the pillow cases were yellow, the wall paper was filthy and peeling off, the bath was dripping and not draining away so there was an inch of dirty water in the bottom and the curtains were way to small for the window and were held together with bulldog clips letting a lot of light in. Outside of the terrible room the car park was frequented by about 6 drug addicts leaning on the cars. The car park was very tight and also used by the very busy liquor store under hotel, I didn’t feel my hire car would be safe there overnight. Under the hotel there is also a bar that had very loud music on with a lot of drunk people in. Also in the bar is an unlocked door that leads to the hotel lobby and stairs where I saw a few people walk through and up the stairs without any challenge from the reception staff, I felt this was very unsafe having children with me. When complaining about all of this I was told there were no other rooms available so we decided to leave, we weren’t offered any of the money back but decided it was worth loosing the money and staying somewhere else. On returning to The UK I complained on 4 separate occasions to Expedia as this hotel is not as they advertised, I haven’t had any replies on the first 3 attempts, today I was told the hotel offered us other rooms and accommodation in a partner hotel, this was a complete lie, why would I have turned down this option?

I stayed at this hotel recently and wanted to share an honest, balanced review. The main issue was the condition of the room. It felt quite old and not well maintained, and unfortunately it did not feel clean or comfortable. There was black mold in the shower and it looked disgusting we didn’t shower. We also had housekeeping walk in at 10:00am a whole hour before checkout while we were still in bed.

an older hotel which has it's own character. Room was large, however, the small Tv was quite a distance from the bed and the remote was very challenging. investing in a larger tv would solve that problem. Bed was comfortable.

Clean but very dated and basic. Room was small, a safe was provided but inaccessible due to furniture being in the way. The room had an aircon unit, not required in October which further restricted space. Breakfast was meagre and not a continental breakfast in its purest form. There was no milk which had to be requested from the one staff member who seemed overworked. The hotel is next to a liquor store where the carpark is located which raised some concern about the vehicles safety, fortunately it was fine. Overall I was surprised that the property is part of the Wyndham Group.

Pros: Pleasant and efficient desk staff, Delicious pub style dinner with included alcoholic drink, very friendly & helpful young gentleman waiter. Public areas of historic building well kept. Cons: (why I cry a little) Our king bed room had several small easily remedied maintenance issues - one side curtain missing entirely, the other side curtain hanging by 1 hook which just needed the little track eyes for the rest of the hooks. Vintage/antique style furniture paint was badly chipped - just needed a little bit of colour to cover those marks. The TV remote would not turn the TV on/off or do volume (the other buttons worked although we had to do the volume/on/off commands using buttons on the front of the TV.) The roller blind did not stay at the spot you rolled it to, but had to be fully rolled to the top or puddled on the sill completely rolled down. Good thing the windows actually open because we had to turn the thermostat down to 50F, run the fan, and open the window 6 inches and keep it that way all afternoon and overnight to cool the room down from 78F (the temp when we arrived.) The Plaza is such an historic and beautiful old building with a neat original 1920's Otis 3 person elevator and beautiful original wood floors and I really hate to see it come into disrepair when it could be (and has been) so much more. As a Wyndham property I implore you, please get on top of daily simple maintenance tasks to improve customer satisfaction and bring her back to her heyday

The room was quite small. The bathroom only had a shower (no tub). There was no counterspace in the bathroom. Also, there was construction right next to the building. Otherwise, the hotel had a nice charm. Very clean. Had to pay for parking, but got two free drinks at the hotel restaurant. Overall, a good experience.
The room was quite small. The bathroom only had a shower (no tub). There was no counterspace in the bathroom. Also, there was construction right next to the building. Otherwise, the hotel had a nice charm. Very clean. Had to pay for parking, but got two free drinks at the hotel restaurant. Overall, a good experience.

For what we wanted it worked.....close to everything downtown including the night market and buskers festival. Breakfast was good, Tumbleweed Lounge had good food and drinks. What we didn't like....parking a block away....that's ridiculous. Luckily we are healthy older people and can make the walk. The small shower....my bf has bruises on his elbow from washing his hair and hitting the walls. No tub, no A/C....it's Kamloops people! We had to open the window for a breeze and then couldn't sleep because of the bars letting out.

Good location downtown but very noisy at night if your room is on the 4th ave side. There is an outdoor speaker playing the music from the pub. Hot water in the shower/tub was randomly hot and warm. Our secondary lock on the door was broken and therefore non functional. Pay close attention to where you park if you pay for hotel parking. They have a small sign at the front desk (that’s easy to miss if you’re not at the right side of the desk) showing where the hotel parking is. It is basically one big lot that’s part private lot, part hotel lot. When there’s lots of snow it’s easy to not see where one ends and the other begins. Staff should warn you verbally when you pay for parking at check in. From desk girl was not about to do anything to help me resolve my ticket

A few issues with our room that needed to be addressed. It’s an old hotel that does need a bit of upgrading. However the staff is very polite and helpful. I had been a bit upset about the issues in our room which prevented us from getting ready to go out for the evening. Around afternoon, we complained about the air conditioning in our room because it was too hot. The staff said she would adjust the temperature, but it was still too hot until the evening. We had an infant with us, who was getting so uncomfortable and cranky because it was past her bedtime. We approached the staff again, and she said she could move us to another room. She gave us the room key, but when we opened the other room, we were surprised to find another guest there. She wasn’t even apologetic about what happened and insisted on transferring us to a different room again. The next day, we had a big event and were out of the hotel all day, but she wanted us to transfer our room at 12nn because there were guests coming in. Her attitude was awful, and we had the worst stay there that we should have had comfort at a hotel.

Because the parking lot beside the hotel was full, I had to park in an alternative lot. The directions the desk clerk gave me were confusing. First she tried to direct me down a street that was blocked off due to construction, then she tried to direct me the wrong way down a one way street. On my third time going to the desk for directions, she started to talk down to me. When I finally found the parking lot, she told me I had parked in the wrong spot and i had to go out for the fifth time and move my car. Since I paid a total of almost $250 for one night, I would have expected a lot more courtesy, and less attitude.

We arrived about 1.5hrs early from our check in and the helpful staff got us checked in immediately. The hotel bar had on a good selection of drinks and sports on the huge tv. For an older hotel, the room was clean and the bathroom was spotless. Free parking was a bonus and also a complimentary buffet style breakfast in the morning which we didn’t expect. Would recommend this hotel to anyone .

The hotel is centrally located so is convenient with bars and restaurants close by. We only stayed one night as it was to break up the long 9 hour drive from Jasper to Whistler so didn’t have anything planned for the area. Parking is available but is very limited at the hotel. They do offer parking up the road by the double tree hotel so if you arrive and can’t park at the hotel going and ask reception and they will show you where to park. The hotel staff were helpful and friendly and breakfast was included. The hotel itself felt dated and tired but for the one night transiting through it did everything we wanted.

The hotel shows its age but is clean. Parking close to the hotel so we were a little concerned about our vehicle's safety given the transients in the area. Free breakfast was not very good. Eggs, sausages, hashbrowns and french toast were all cold so we had muffin and coffee.

Our room was nicely decorated and very clean. The bathroom has no counter so there was no where for my toiletry bag. The food in the Tumbleweed Lounge was disappointing. The veggies that came with the salmon dinner tasted like they were from a frozen bag of veggies, not fresh, very soggy. The free breakfast OK but get there early as the food was sparse andcold when we arrived at 8:30am.

This is the dirtiest hotel I have ever stayed in… the hotel is in unsavioury location and were advised not to leave anything in the car … minimal car parks and a need to find parking in a different location. One very small slow lift which was difficult to use. Hotel is 100 years old and should be pulled down I would not recommend anyone to stay there and is extremely overpriced for what you get.

The carpet on the 4th floor smelled of cat urine and was very offensive. We didn’t have a drink in the bar downstairs as there was many drunk / stoned undesirable person hanging out in the veranda area.
