Grange Hotel

I have stayed here numerous occasions unfortunately on this occasion we had a disturbance at 4.30 am which unsettled the children who couldn’t get back to sleep. A drunken man was trying to get into our bedroom and the night porter and man were very noisy outside the room. The pool’s sauna and steam was out of order and the toilet in the pool had no toilet tissue.

This is a lovely hotel in an absolutely beautiful setting. The staff are genuinely kind and welcoming, and the restaurant manager went out of his way to make my daughter’s 20th birthday special with complimentary pancakes and a candle. The hotel was clean, felt freshly decorated. We particularly enjoyed the swimming pool, jacuzzi, and steam room, which were all lovely. Overall, I really liked the feel of the place and the people, and I would stay here again. That said, the hotel doesn’t quite feel like a 4-star yet. Service was often slow, especially in the bar on our first night, as there simply weren’t enough experienced staff. Some important details were missing in the rooms: a floor-length mirror, coffee maker, mini fridge, robes for everyone (we were four), flannels, tissues, conditioner, and lamps by the sofa bed. Our spacious suite actually felt rather bare and would have benefited from some extra furniture. A water cooler on each floor would also have been appreciated. The second bed, a sofa bed, was too small for our adult children, though the staff did kindly offer us an additional single room. Breakfast was fine, but a higher-quality bread would have been welcome. Some facilities were unavailable (the sauna and lift were both out of order), and the drinks were disappointing-cocktails from a packet and a poor-tasting Guinness. With more staff and attention to these small but important details, the hotel could truly live up to its 4 star rating.

Stayed 4 nights with our dog. Lovely pet friendly hotel. However, we were charged £45 on check out for our pet. No mention of this when booking, or on arrival, which was a shock. Hotel staff were friendly. Pool facilities were ok. Sauna doesn't work, jacuzzi could do with being warmer.

Nice hotel, asked for room upgrade and got one, lounge bar could do with more choice of food, what was on offer was very good though. Not everyone wants to spend in excess of £35 for dinner every evening! Parking can be a bit of an issue at times.

Good food, friendly staff, the swimming pool had excessive amounts of Chlorine that made all our eyes tear up and turn red

WOW!!! this is by far one of the best hotel stays i have ever had. the staff were lovely - always wanting to help and answer your questions. we got a boutique room and it was so nicely decorated, with beautiful views of the garden. the hotels grounds are fantastic, and having both the lounge and the restaurant gave you quite a bit of option. the pool was so clean and well maintained, you can tell the staff really pay attention to taking care of this place. absolutely fantastic place, i could not fault anything about it!

Very disappointed! We liked the rooms, the staff, the food. The location was excellent, just a few steps from the rail station and a walk through lovely gardens to the shopping and restaurant area. However, five of us went for a spa weekend to celebrate a birthday. The spa was a great disappointment. The tiny steam room had a peculiar unpleasant smell. The jacuzzi did not work nor did the only shower in the pool area. Only one of the showers in the ladies’ changing room worked. A lot of our time was spent at Lake Windermere instead, paddle boarding and swimming (in the rain).

We stayed for one night as a treat and to visit the Lakeland Motor Museum and Aquariam. Overall this is a great hotel with polite and professional staff attention and friendly. Nice room plenty of free parking and well cooked and presented food. The building is period. Some areas need updating however every where it is clean and comfortable. On arrival we were upgraded to a front facing room. Pros • Very pleasant professional staff. Very down to earth and polite. • Clean everywhere • Easy to get to, near town and attractions • Pool, jacuzzi sauna steam room was clean 4foot deep all over and about 8 metres in a shape xx • Lounge bar food menu better than the restaurant • Food lovely in lounge bar area 😋 great dessert All the staff are absolutely lovely Cons • Styled in a Victoria fashion but it has an unfortunately outdated and tired look. Just needs something to give it a wow factor. • Only 1 staff on bar/lounge food area, so wait times are long for a small footflow • Spa pool tired looking old, changing rooms need a refurb very basic • Restaurant menu odd and spoiled a visit there. They have private rooms call carriages. • there where a couple of dirty glasses on the table • Internet absolutely shocking was down all evening •staff couldent order deserts. Room 115 is old style but good. Bed towel etc all great quality. The price was reasonable. I would visit again and recommend this hotel. Its not far from the m6 and lakes

Average stay. Bathroom tiles grubby and needing refreshing. No window in room, we did have an indoor balcony that went into a hall with other rooms so didn't use it. Fan provided in room but just circulated hot air. Very uncomfortable. Bar didnt have items for drinks on the menu. We had breakfast on one day of our 2 day stay. £25 for 2 buffet breakfasts. Hot food wasn't great. Wall paper in halls coming away from walls. The grounds are lovely and the area is nice. However for the price, we wouldn't return.

Staff were brilliant. Very clean and stylish.

The building was exceptionally clean, warm and quiet. Loved the staff service and professionalism. The bedroom was big enough like we expected it to be. We shall go back again soon.

The area is beautiful and the hotel is grand looking & we can't fault the bar staff, but when you look closer, maintenance is lacking as we needed to lift the cistern lid to enable it to flush, we had no hot water on our last morning to be able to shower, but worse was the general cleanliness in our room: finger nail on the bathroom floor; old shampoo bottle and plastic cup down the side of the bath; dirty cup and plate at breakfast.

I'm not one to leave reviews or nitpick, in-fact left left more good reviews than bad, but I've stayed at the Grange Hotel twice over the last week (to break up a trip to/from Scotland) and both times everything I could lay my eyes on was absolutely filthy. From the carpets (my room wasn't even vacuumed), the restaurant seats and tables, the bathrooms, and even the yellowing sweat-stained bed throws, it's all just uncomfortably gross. On my first stay, I gave them the benefit of the doubt as it was during New Year, but the second time was almost a week later, and nothing had changed. Also, skip the "breakfast" unless you enjoy hash browns which resemble cardboard and tins of fruit salad. The building itself is beautiful, disregarding the fake plastic antiques, such a shame!

Had breakfast last minute choce tasty however no toat or pastries left Forgot my swimming costume and i would have used the spa my fault 🙃 Super comfy bed very clean and spacious room. We had dinner and it was excellent We would stay again

Staff were very friendly and attentive and provided excellent service. Great location of hotel. Great food. Hotel cleanliness in aminety areas and rooms could have been better.

For what we paid I didn’t expect cobwebs all over windows, mouldy tiles in shower, loose toilet seat and having to park down the road…

I was staying for one night and generally I can’t fault the hotel for its friendly staff, good food and the comfy bed. However I was in a single room, my choice, but the bathroom was far too small. Not sure what the other rooms are size wise, but don’t choose a single room. The TV on the wall was bigger!

The room and hotel was elaborate and classy, with a kingsize 4 poster bed. The drapes around the bed and at the window, were swags and tails, with the period furniture that fits in with the hotel. All very grand. The only downfall was that the window was a bit shaky causing a banging noise, which disturbed our sleep at times.

Beautiful hotel, old building which has been done up to a really high standard but you still see the classy almost castle like feel of it. Staff were very friendly and kind. I really enjoyed the decor in the room and around the hotel, the spacious room and extremely comfortable bed. Only slight problem was the radiators filled with water at 6am and it woke us both up from the noise untill I had to get out of bed and turn off. Was quite upset about it but receptionist seemed surprised so assume was unusual. We also enjoyed the pool, but book massages early.

This was magnificent. The room was huge 34’x25’. In magnificent condition. They were going through a major renovation but this will make it even better. Highly recommended

We were initially put in room 126, which had a very loud - the sort you are unable to block out - buzzing sound. Initially it was thought that this was the kitchen extractor fans resonating through the building, but the noise continued after these had been turned off. As the hotel was full apart from one room, we were upgraded to the Sable D'or suite; we cannot fault the service given to us, and I am very grateful that we were able to be moved. Small comment regarding this suite - it was obvious that it isn't used very often as the taps all had water hammers and spluttered quite violently.

The room was so hot we could not sleep window was open all night and a ceiling fan it was unbearable

Nice hotel, 5 minutes to the promenade and town. Lovely breakfast, nice big rooms. A bit dated but in a quant way.

We were placed in room 123 which was above the pool and this meant the room was extremely hot - even with two fans running and at night. The window only opens about a few inches so hardly any draught is allowed in. It was so hot that after a few hours I decided to ask for a different room and to the credit of the hotel they genuinely put a lot of effort into accommodating us. The new room was also very hot but thankfully a little better. We had a generally uncomfortable night and we were glad to be outside feeling the breeze in the morning. The day in question of our stay was not particularly warm (24 degrees Celsius I believe) so I can only imagine how hot this hotel can get on warmer days. I would urge the property to consider installing some mechanism to help cool the rooms to something more reasonable.

The hotel is stunning and the grounds around it are incrdible. The promenade walk was out of this world. Very friendly staff and helpful. The pool is very clean. We had our cuckapoo with us and they were very loving towards him. Dogs are not allowed in the dinning room which wasnt an issue at all as we were allowed to stay on the bar side/dinning room. Lots of choices for food and breakfast. I would dedinitely go back. The rooms are huge and have just been refurbished. Thank you for making our stay so comfortable.

Excellent Hotel only problem was to hot because of heatwave and no air conditioning but this would not be a problem in a usual visit to the area

Our Ruby Wedding Anniversary Very helpful receptionist - warm greeting. Upgraded our room (due to a medical condition) when we were unable to use a room with only a shower. No info about a coach party for 4 days of our stay and no evening restaurant menu or dining for normal guests. Bar food overpriced and only Tapas items. Morning breakfasts - Day 1 Greeting was curt - shown to table (only greeted as "Sir" with no reference to my wife even existing) Food good - coffee luke warm. Day 2 - indifferent greeting - kept waiting. Food good - Waitresses good - Manager & male waiters had an attitude (Delusions of Grandeur!) Day 3 - Shown to table and requested coffee - returned to table with breakfast plates, one coffee cup had walked no and after waiting for 10 minutes we asked the head waiter for coffees and a cup. Our request was acknowledged but ignored! 10 mins later a waitress asked if we needed anything? Eventually a coffee cup and pot of coffee arrived 5 mins later after almost finishing breakfast. POOR and aloof service at best by male waiters! Bedoom - First impression it was clean & well presented. Bathroom - cheap hardboard door. The bath, sink & toilet were spotless, however the glass shower screen did not touch the side of the bath and there was clear mouldy filler on the outside. The long edge of the bath had no grout / filler & side panel cracked and not fastened. Spar / pool area - not used - from outside view - cheap door & 200mm water damage visible.

Felt really looked after, efficient and friendly check in with upgrade. Very relaxing stay, wonderful nights sleep couldn’t ask for better. Thank you to all the staff!

Just all round great hotel. Friendly staff everywhere….reception, bar, breakfast time. Location ideal. Easy parking. Fantastic room . . Stayed all over Christmas in 2023 too. Loved it then also.

Staff and manager were super helpful from helping me with my luggage, giving me directions, and letting me use the phone to report my car accident. Definitely would recommend.

Very nice old Hotel, in a great location in Grange-over-Sands. Restaurants and Railway Station walkable. Very friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable and good sized room with great shower. Fabulous view of the Bay from our room. The Hotel is old and perhaps a bit tired. Breakfast service was not great, on a busy Saturday morning there was a lack of cooked breakfast. The sausage and bacon were not well cooked at all. On Sunday morning, the sausage was almost raw. More worryingly, when I checked the fire exit opposite our room, 211, it had laundry trolleys on each landing, partially blocking the fire exit. There was also a Henry Hoover laid on the ground, a trip hazard. I pointed this out at reception on Saturday evening. On Sunday morning, although the hoover was gone, the laundry trolleys were still there. Poor fire safety and potentially dangerous. Overall the hotel is fair to good, with helpful friendly staff. 6/10

The area where the hotel is situated is fantastic, no traffic, no car noise, just nature! The staff was very friendly! The hotel is very close to lots of shops restaurants etc! It is also close to the city centre! I recommend this hotel from my heart! We already booked another stay for July! I can not wait to be back again!

Just a couple of days away to see the Lake District , hotel was in lovely location short walk from grange over sands

Great property in a small town in the lakes district. Rooms were nice and has a good bar area downstairs. The hotel is within walking distance to everything in town

The hotel is well situated, directly across the road fro the railway station.Staff were attentive, genuine and well trained.The room was excellent and clean.Breakfast lovely.Lots of choice.We shall def stay here again.The staff are the jewel in its crown.Cost was far less than one would expect for a hotel of this standard.Grange is a good base to explore the surrounding areas.

Very easy access to seafront and town. 3 mins from train station that could take you to other coastal and inland towns or as far away as Manchester and beyond. Breakfast good as was bar menu. Never tried dinning or the pool.

Beautiful Hotel.great beds and bed linen . Had best sleep in a long time, Had a bar meal enjoyed Breaded Chicken Burger , reasonably priced. Efficient breakfast room it was quite busy . Sat down right away and excellent buffet , only criticism. No brown bread for toast, only white .

Great older hotel - superb customer service from a very pleasant staff. Ate from the bar menu which was very good. Hotel does show its age at times, but in a quaint and totally acceptable way - a much better option than a standard Marriott/Holiday Inn. We had a great stay!
