Drop Anchor Resort & Marina

Excellent!! Boat ramp on premises and swimming pool. Spacious room (at least the one we stayed in), plenty on parking space and close to everything.

We loved Drop Anchor! The property was perfect! The location, clean, quiet, beach, heated pool, tiki huts with adirondeck chairs and hammocks. Exactly, what we were looking for and thoroughly enjoyed.

Pictures sure make it look like this is “beach front” but there is not a beach. It is sand up to a sea wall. We booked this place specifically for water access and were disappointed to see it when we got there. Unfortunately it was a non-refundable stay so we paid more money than we would have plus a “resort fee” for stuff we did not use as we had travel to get actual beach access. Room was fine, kind of what we expected from an older property.

There was a $75 charge for “resort” facilities,i.e., kayak and bicycle use, which I was told was non waivable, which as senior citizens we did not have any use for. Had it been a non refundable reservation we would have gone someplace else. Live and learn.

Nice place.pool was nice .no real beach but very pleasant.

Very clean, friendly resort. Very personal attention. The room was terrific. Loved that we had an ocean view balcony and a kitchen and the beds were very comfortable. The staff was SO friendly and helpful. Did not like that bikes had to be returned by 5pm Apparently a drunk guest from some time ago got into an accident on bicycle. We did not have a car and that limited our early evening access to free and easy transport to dinner. Also... though it has a marina for boaters, the resort has no beach. It does have a great pool and free kayaks which we made great use of, but we came to the Keys for the beach and the clear water. We had to take a two mile bike ride (which was nice exercise) to a small local beach and a 45 minute Uber (expensive!) to a really large beach.

Small beach front resort with large, comfortable rooms, a beautiful pool, kayaks and SUPs for use, and wonderful location.

Check in and out super easy and front desk great. Room itself was roomy but older. No vent or ac in shower or bathroom area. Older window wall unit barely cooled room. However property itself and location were great so made it a win. Having Paddleboard’s and kayaks to use for free big bonus, pool at end of day was relaxing and sitting under tiki huts at night and in morning looking out to wide open water was awesome and super relaxing. Definitely not a resort but a very nice option to stay a night or two with a reasonable price

Liked the Atlantic bulkhead. Plenty of dock space and casting room. Tasteful atmosphere with clean grounds and pool. Boat launch looked safe and maintained. Outdoor lights gave a nice ambience. Room was clean and properly stocked. TV was outdated.

Expectations are key. We needed a place we could launch our boat on a holiday weekend so we braved the reviews and booked a room. Pros and Cons listed below. Long read but I think good reviews are super important: Property - they do an amazing job of the keeping the grounds cleaned and manicured. We were there 5 days and of those days the pool didn’t have water 1 or 2 of them. Not a biggie for us bc we had our boat. Boat launch is banked odd so it’s not for the inexperienced. There is a fresh water hose right at the launch that is fantastic bc you can immediately rinse your boat and trailer. There’s a shaded fish cleaning station right at the launch as well. The bulkhead is really nice and a safe place to leave your boat. The Room: we were in Unit #1 which had a queen bed and small kitchen. The room was very nice, comfortable bed and upgraded bathroom. Water in pressure was great with plenty of hot water but we heard from our next door neighbors they had no water pressure and little hot water. Our AC left SO much this be desired. For a room as small as it was the window unit, had it been updated it would have been great. Instead it never dropped below 71 and the bathroom was too hot to stay in for long. Our neighbors who had no water pressure were freezing their AC worked so well. So it appears the rooms are hit and miss and for what we paid per night we should have had an AC that cooled that small space.

We booked this hotel for 1 night while at the Keys to avoid driving back to Miami after boating all day. The price and location were great. We loved the convenience of the 2nd bedroom kitchen area was nice and spacious. The outside area is pleasant and nice water view. My only complaint was the bathroom. Terrible shower, not very clean, bad shower, very outdated and uncomfortable. The bathroom needs remodeling like yesterday. Other than that I would recommend this place for a short stay, not long.

The property between the room and the ocean was very nice. We did not get a clean feel from the room. It had an odor, the bathroom was was not clean, and the door frame on out room entry was busted and the door was difficult to close. I felt it was overpriced for the condition. However the view was very nice.

Clean rooms. Mattresses a bit dated and the place could use some pint but the staff and location and the added kitchen are super perks.

I loved this property. My husband and I stayed here for a quick getaway and it was perfect. Super clean and the staff was very responsive. We utilized the complimentary kayaks which was a nice touch. Will be returning

The grounds at Drop Anchor are immaculate! The beauty of the grounds and cleanliness of the rooms and common areas made this a 5-star stay. I really appreciated the ease of checking in late (we arrived at midnight-call ahead and they leave a key in a lockbox for you!) Super helpful friendly staff also made for a great stay. We walked to lunch and enjoyed biking on the quiet service road. I got the local paper and pool towels along with coffee in the lobby each AM.

Our room had a terrible bad smell coming out from the kitchen. It was like the smell of rotten fish and it permeated the whole room. We tried to find where the smell was coming from but we could not identify it. We had to sleep there the first night because we arrived after the hotel office hours of operation and there was no one at the hotel front desk at that time to request a room change. It was almost impossible to sleep that night with that unpleasant smell and the next morning we left. We had booked 2 nights but decided to lose the money and leave early. I left the staff know about the reasons at check out. It is a shame we had that bad experience in the room because the hotel in general was not bad.

I booked a Resort Queen Family Suite with Kitchen. I thought we'd have an ocean view from the photos we saw on Expedia. We asked, but they said no. The room looked clean, but during the night, a cockroach came out. We couldn't sleep after that. We waited until dawn, and my husband told the front desk, and the response was that it wasn't under their control and that it was Florida. The hotel was expensive. The pool was fine, and the surrounding areas were clean.The experience was not good.

Terrible experience. The a/c is pointing directly towards the restroom and the bed is stuck in a whole with little ventilation. The pool was extremely dirty.

Really over priced. The rooms were tiny and bathroom was even more so. Bed the step out of the door was not very safe. My daughter fell down and twisted both ankles.

Older hotel but so very charming and comfy. Wonderful views.

Compared to other choices in the area, I thought we ended with the best deal. We booked the ocean view king room, which is very spacious with sitting area and the view of the water is right there. Nice updated bathroom and a balcony overlooking the water too. Freshly painted inside and out - well kept grounds, loved sitting under one of several tiki umbrellas to enjoy that view and watch the boats. wished we were staying longer - but next time we will.

Our big problem was the room. It was small, the bed was too high, very uncomfortable, there was no ventilation or fan in the bathroom, completely overpriced. The bed is exposed in a way that I hate myself twice with it in the leg that I had to protect it with a towel, not to hate it during the night.

The front desk guy was so nice, really just a very friendly guy and I appreciate that. The room was a bit hot -the ac wasn’t working right, it was blowing but not cold air unfortunately. The room itself and bathroom were super cute, the bed and pillows were very comfy, it was nice and quiet and I rested very well other than being a little hot.

Dated and beds need replacing

The location was beautiful, rooms should be updated. My biggest complaint is a paid for two rooms, same price for both, but one was very much smaller than the other and no balcony in that same room either ?!?!

Air conditioner was inadequate. Probably why they had box fans in the rooms.

My boyfriend and I stayed here one night on Saturday, March 8th. The property was okay...but not anywhere near worth $400 for the night..even on a Saturday during spring break. Biggest issue was the old TV in the room - the screen died after 15mins of use. It came back on after 5minutes, and then died again promptly after that.. I let the office know, and the next day they called me saying "the TV is perfectly fine." So, they don't believe their guests when they say something is wrong. No refund either. So if you stay in Room 16, beware that the old TV dies after 15 minutes of being on.

Beautiful property and the staff was amazing.

Due to a family emergency, my brother passed suddenly, we had to cancel the room. I was not refunded, even though I had insurance and documentation on why. Manager was rude and dismissive when i contacted them.

I felt like an employee having to get fresh towels, cleaning the room and bathroom, delivering dirty towels, asking and finding staff for coffee packets, and toiletries. Noisy room with very early traffic noise, and an air conditioning unit in the bedroom closet that was absolutely filthy with dust and as loud as the traffic. No staff on the premises in the evening. If you needed help you had to call. No phone in the room, so cell phone needed to be charged for any emergency.

Amazing stay from pre checkin to checkout. They easily accommondated a late night check in and the room was great.

On the third night of our 3-night stay and wishing we could stay forever! We splurged on a direct ocean front room and it is worth every penny. This place is by no means fancy but it is old Florida at its finest: cozy, chill, unpretentious. Add in a heated pool and a drip (not pod!!) coffeemaker and all boxes have been checked. As with most of the upper keys there is no true walkout sandy beach but you can use the kayak ramp to get in an ocean swim. Note mucky bottom so mann up or wear swim shoes! Received lovely service from Daniel at front desk and housekeeper could not have been kinder. DROP ANCHOR IS A GEM

This hotel is a real gem. Location is ideal, right on the water with a pool and very comfortable spots to take in the breathtaking views of the ocean. You truly feel like you are off the grid at this very tranquil spot. The staff is extremely kind, and they even let you borrow kayaks to explore.

Great location clean rooms and private beach adds this to our list of places we will book again. Also affordable rates. Upper keys easily accessible and lots of things to do in the immediate area.

Drop Anchor is a great place. Oceanfront but peaceful and the grounds are well kept. We like to walk everywhere and that was a bit hard to do and to no fault of Drop Anchor - just wish there was more dining/bars closer than a car ride. We will be back to stay.

Good location in Islamorada. Walkable to a few spots for dining and entertainment. Very relaxing in the resort with a nice view of the ocean. And very close to other spots such as the Whale Harbor Marina and Robbie's.

Internet Bad, 1 bar w/ 2 min., walking outside, Guest above noise every time walked on floor, Sea Grape bush banged back window & elevated A/c compressor all night, #4 Room, 2 queen beds all most furthest unit from highway still noisy, Room & bathroom very clean, w/ clean towels, Nicely decorated w/ good paint, Bathroom very small, 1 person, No space for shelf under mirror, Small home depo type vanity, no space even for small tolitry bag, aprx. 4" ledge around, Top of toilet inches away for placement, Shower, w/ shower curtain, No bar for wash cloth/bathing suit, razor, shampoo etc., Wall mounted hair dryer, Ok shampoo, soap, etc. No door on closet visible across from beds, w/. ironing board and iron, hangers rattled from ceiling fan, No phone, front desk only 8AM-6PM, no one else on property, only phone # to call before 8AM & after 6PM, No Security, Nice Pool, no pool/ beach towels, lots & lots of Sand around complex, well keep, beautiful unobstructed view of Atlantic Ocean, no entries to ocean, rocks below, No dinning/ bar. No vending machine, Ice Machine, $37.63 per day "Resort Fee", Room size OK, Good mattress, w/ clean sheets & 4 pillows on beds, Small empty Refrigerator, small micro, & Coffee maker w/ Coffee Packets & uninsulated Ice bucket, Ice Machine, Electric for switches by door in pertruding channel, Old small TV, w/dark picture. OK remodel for 30 year building, Entire Complex very clean. Better choices in Islamorada in same price range. Zachary Bentley

My new favorite place to stay !! As a florida local coming to the keys os a home away from home and drop anchor was more than that ! From the lovely lady at the front who made us feel so welcomed and went above and beyond to help, to the property itself. You can see the ocean from the pool and a 5 min walk to hog heaven which is the spot to go for late night drinks. I absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for a great time. I will be back sooner now since I found such a gem like drop anchor. Thank you for everything!!

The location was great! Publix was close, to stock up on any needs. Amenities are nice- bikes available, pool, beach towels- public beach/park very close and with stay comes free access to this spot. Room was clean and comfortable. The only issue I had, is that the room I booked on Hotels.com vs the room I got, were not the same room. The pictures and layout did not match at all. I was excited to stay here, and it was a great spot. Just it was not what I was sold. If i had stayed more than 1 night, I might have said something. I was in room 16, none of the pictures matched for "Oceanfront King Suite w/ Beach Walkout & Kitchen". The place was nice, staff was great, so just make sure the rooms are as advertised is my only suggestion.

Great place. I enjoyed the beach area and how we could walk to a few good dive bars w live music. Very clean and included a kitchen snd good size shower. Only complaint would be the blinds did not close all the way and parking lot coyld see in at night.
