Iconic hotel in heritage building. Mixture of some "old" & some "newer" rooms, but no a/c. Premium location with southwest-facing views over English Bay waterfront & seawall walking. 300m to Stanley Park entrance. Dozens of restaurants within 1km walk. Popular onsite lounge / restaurant with views. Parking $32/day with taxes. Lovely staff.

Located right across the street from False Creek on English Bay. Great location to Stanley Park and Vancouver. Parking was secure and staff was very helpful.

Gorgeous view of English Bay from the dining and bar, as well as some rooms. Great old hotel with charm and panache. Comfortable, quiet rooms in the older section, less quiet in the new section. The bathrooms are a bit minimalist, but the shower water pressure was great. Excellent service in the dining room. Great breakfast options with that view!

No AC. Hot day.

Rooms and amenities very nice and comfortable. Lack of AC not great in hot weather. Opening windows invites outside noise, and closing them -- even with fans -- makes air a bit stuffy. But overall a positive experience, particularly in cooler weather.

Amazing location and fantastic service. Rooms are simple and clean. Its not luxury but the location is the best. We ate in the lounge and had Sunday brunch in the restaurant both had excellent service and food was very good.

The rich history and beauty of the hotel, not to mention so close to amenities and ocean walks. We didn't like the fact the hotel didn't have a pool or hottub. Only thing that was missing.

Tout était parfait sauf qu'il y régnait une mauvaise odeur dans le hall de la chambre ainsi que dans la SdB. La femme de chambre a été très attentive à notre demande et a réglé les odeurs en parti mais pas complètement pour notre 2e nuitée. Il faut dire qu'il s'agit d'un hôtel centenaire est-ce la raison? Je n'en ai aucune idée

Room was clean and quiet. Very comfortable and safe. Terrific value. I would stay there again.

The room was spotless, the staff friendly and the location cannot be beat.

Room was not well cleaned and the carpet in front of the fridge was wet. FYI- we found out a couple of days after making the reservation that the hotel does not have A/C, which luckily it didn’t need. With the windows open it was noisy.

The Sylvia was a beautiful, historic place to stay in Vancouver. We loved being so close to English Bay and walking the paths. The rooms were clean but musty and the beds were pretty uncomfortable. The historic vibe of the hotel was great though and everyone in my party really enjoyed their stay.

While a little dated (musty hallways), the Sylvia remains a favorite. Great staff, location, and it's quiet and clean.

Property had a historic nostalgic feel. Rooms were clean and staff exceptionally friendly and helpful. No air conditioning but beautiful breeze. Great location near beach and Stanley Park. Highly recommended.

We booked this trip last minute and we were absolutely thrilled with our choice! The Sylvia Hotel is full of old time charm and sophistication. From the moment we entered the lobby, we felt as if we had stepped into a by-gone era. The wonderful black and white photos of days gone by, the friendly welcome from the front desk staff, and English Bay beach just steps from the door, we knew that we had stumbled upon what felt to us like a hidden gem. As expected by the age and history of this hotel, our standard king room was small in comparison to larger, newer hotel rooms, but it was by no means cramped. Well laid out with windows that actually open to let in the sea breeze, it was perfect. The bathroom is small, reflecting the era of the building, but has everything needed for a relaxing stay. As for cleanliness, the housekeeping staff do an amazing job. Our room was spotless and inviting from the moment we stepped inside the door. Breakfast in the restaurant had lots of great choices and we were charmed by the friendly and attentive waitstaff. The Sylvia Hotel is a wonderful change to the often impersonal newer hotels, and with its location beside English Bay, you just can't beat those amazing sunsets!

I am deaf and when I checked in she gave me key 409 then quickly changed it to 296 when she found out I had a service dog. Then kept calling my service dog my pet even after I showed her a government of Alberta service dog license. Then get to the room and the windows are wide open and anyone could climb in and attack me. The place is beyond filthy. I am reporting ten to human rights and better business bureau. I walked out and still got charged. DO NOT BOOK HERE. NOT SAFE. NO HOTEL SECURITY ANF IKD FASHION KEYS.

English bay cannot be beat for beauty and location. The hotel is old but beautiful, biggest issue is NO Air conditioning and the downtown area can be noisy all night long.

This was our first time staying at the Sylvia, but it won't be the last! What a fantastic hotel! Such history! We initially booked a regular King room for our stay, but ended up switching to a queen suite on the ocean side. The front desk staff was very accommodating and gave me a tour of the two ocean side rooms we could move into - never had that kind of service at a hotel before! The queen suite was a no brainer. We loved the character of the room and the separate bedroom - plus the living room and kitchen were a huge bonus since we were travelling with our pet. The room felt homey, spacious, and comfortable and was updated nicely. The bed was very comfortable. Even though the hotel has no air conditioning, it wasn't a problem for us - even in late July - the breeze off the water and the fan were enough to make the room comfortable. The bay/beach was right across the street from the hotel, which was amazing. You can walk right into Stanley Park if you wanted to. The area was bustling with bikers, runners and walkers, but would quiet down at 10pm. The restaurant had wonderful food - and wasn't too expensive. We had our breakfasts and suppers there, but there were other food options within walking distance. Parking was a breeze with their on site underground lot. Made for cars though - it would be difficult to park a truck there. The only thing bad thing I can say was the couch with the pull out bed was very uncomfortable to sit on! Highly recommend this hotel! Amazing stay

We had a nice quiet room with a view. The restaurant staff and breakfasts were great. Everyone was polite and attentive.

Beautiful location across from the water. Our room was huge, had a very comfortable king size bed, large walk in closet and another small room with single bed. It’s an older building with no sound proofing so we could hear the people next door singing and chatting late into the night. Asked for extra coffee and Kleenex from maid but never received either. Might stay again because of location and comfortable bed.

When i arrived my credit cards would not work so i said can i use my debit card sure but my name is not printed on my card the manager was summoned and proceeded to treat me like a crimnal when my picture id clearly shows its me and i e stsyed before. A weekend in the city is ment to be fun The room i was given was tiny. So i decided to stay at the Wedge wood where my debit card was not a problem as ive stayed there in the past as well A little kindness would go alo g way

Staff were courteous and helped facilitate my early (prior to checkin) arrival. The restaurant staff were professional, smiling and helpful. I ended up eating there more than I had anticipated due to the pleasantly delightful staff and excellent variety and quality of the menu items.

No AC. Open windows. Moist Sea Air. Heard people yelling, Police and pigeons all night. Dogs roam the entire property. They do not restrict dogs to certain rooms or floors. Without AC room smelled like dogs. The staff was freindly and helpful but did not acknowledge our request for a top floor room although we arrived at 10am. They stowed our luggage until the room was ready.

Everything was wonderful. The front desk staff was wonderful with my dog. My only complaint is that the guy that delivered my Room Service, I think was afraid of dogs. I don't think a hotel that wonderfully accepts dogs should have staff whom are afraid of dogs. He asked me to close the door as I put my food into my room.

Pros:** - Excellent location - Pleasant hotel environment **Cons:** - The staff is unfriendly, often responding with a firm "No" to requests without providing alternative solutions or proper explanations. No smiles, no empathy. - The WiFi in the rooms is unreliable, and the staff seems unable to resolve the issue, repeatedly insisting that it works fine in the lobby, making it feel like the problem is yours.

Arrived very early to hotel, amazed at the great check in I had with the young lady! Got me in earlier than I expected. Room wasn’t quite ready but would be in less than a couple hours. They held my luggage so I could go wander. I returned a bit later, to be given an upgrade! From a standard to a King Suite! Thank you Sylvia Hotel and Hotels.ca! I have never been upgraded like this. Very much appreciated, I felt like a “queen” in the King Suite❤️😃👍

The Sylvia has an amazing location close to restaurants, shopping, and Stanley Park. The parking was tight but it seemed safe. For the cost of the stay, I would have expected nicer service at the check-in desk and the fact that we only received one regular coffee in our room each day made no sense.

The staff at this hotel set a new standard for excellent hospitality and service. Every person we met there was friendly, warm and helpful. The location of this hotel cannot be beat - we walked everywhere and tried many excellent restaurants nearby. We will certainly be back to stay at the Sylvia Hotel.

Beautiful historic property located on the beach of English Bay and walking distance to Robson. Great place to start your walk in or around Stanely Park.

The Sylvia is the only hotel in Vancouver actually on the beach. Sitting or walking on English Bay with a Starbucks americano as the morning arrives over the water is beyond perfect.

Location was unreal. Great value.

Close to the beach and cafés. Also a nice walk, along the ocean, to Stanley Park. Approximately 15-20 min walk to take False Creek Ferris to Kitsilano or Granville. We love walking, and everything was near by that we didn't need to rent a car. That was a bonus.

Older hotel, very comfortable, OH parking,very helpful staff. Great location close to Oceanside park and very good dining options on Denman Street one block away.

I really enjoyed staying at the sylvia hotel. The area was in a perfect location for walking and enjoying the beach. The restaurant served good quality food with a beautiful view. I would definitely go back for another visit. Enjoyed the charm of this scolder hotel.

Property was okay. There is no air conditioning. It was very hot. We went to the restaurant in the lobby a couple times. It was okay. The second time we went they had live music playing during supper and it was so loud that we left right away. It was not enjoyable. The room was in a great location by the water.

Staff, always friendly, location excellent, rooms large, restaurant great views. Coffee……… requires improvement! Far too acidic, strong, bitter Sorry, but it spoils what is good food and service.

A travel writer friend recommended the Sylvia Hotel. We loved our stay there. Our room, the hotel staff, and the restaurant were great. The location on English Bay Beach can't be beat, and Stanley Park, Canadaa Place, Chinatown, and Gastown are close by. We walked around the area checking out restaurant options (of which there are plenty), but we returned to the hotel for both breakfast and dinner as the food was excellent, the wait staff was wonderful, and the prices were no higher than those of other venues within walking distance. But just as important, people watching and the beach view from the outdoor seating area were great fun.
