The Econo Lodge in Escanaba is in need of repairs and updating. The cost of the room was way too high for a below average room.. Towels and bed linens were dingy. On the good side we could have our dog with us and it was quiet. We won't stay at that Econo Lodge again.

For the money it was a very decent hotel, the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The room was clean, new plank flooring. No complaints!

We were upstairs and it smelled like someone was cooking up there. It smelled like onions and garlic. In the back of the building there were small grills on the ground. I really liked the bathroom and the shower was great!

Pet friendly facility which met the need for a place for my family to rest their head after a LONG day of adventure in the far north UP! I’ve always been taught to say good things. As the name of the motel indicates Econo Lodge - and that is exactly what it was - an “Econo Lodge”. The room was clean and we appreciated the linoleum floors - especially with a dog and knowing facility is/was pet friendly. Could tell many things were recently updated - toilet in our room needed attention. If you were much heavier than me “110lbs” the toilet would have fallen over. The breakfast is SUPER limited - way more than many other economy motel I have stayed in but the most disturbing thing was that I came up front at 908am to ask for a cup of milk was (although there were still people sitting for breakfast) was told NO and that I should have come between the breakfast hours of 6am-9am. The staff/owner was literally just cleaning up the breakfast. Eventually I received the cup of milk - which was warm in the end. Service was an epic failure! I stay in the highest luxury hotels and encono lodges so I’m not a hotel snob - but service is key. I could go on and provide more details about how I felt overall but I won’t. If you need place to rest you head and have a dog then this place will suit you needs. Expect NO more than a place to rest your head.

This hotel is not very comfort friendly at all. The only thing that rivaled the hardness of the cold floors, was the beds. The beds werent even the same height bed, clearly not the same mattresses. I ended up switching beds my second night because the bed i chose might one felt like a towel drapped over monkey bars. The next nights bed was slightly better...it felt like i was sleeping on clods of dirt. The shower curtain was visibly stained. There was paint over tape to patch holes in the wall. The best thing about my stay is that i was indeed inside. Their listing said there was only one room left, which was clearly a lie as i only saw two other cars in the lot and never saw another soul inside. I was jot expecting a 5 star experience, but i was hoping for slightly more than what felt like a shelter. Will not be staying at this location again, i think id rather stay in my car.

This is an older building. No frills. Bathroom floor tile dirty. Electrical has been repaired multiple times. Staff are suspicious of renters. Staff claimed they didn’t know I had a dog. I registered that I did on website. Charged for checking in 1 hr early.

Our room had a taped broken window and lots of people hanging around the outside of the building smoking. We unexpectedly had to leave a day ahead and still had to pay for our rooms which is annoying since it was beyond our control…two rooms to pay for with no one in them. I don’t think I would recommend this hotel to others. Sorry but at the price of a room we expected cleaner and brighter rooms. Lobby was very small and not appealing “continental breakfast”. Sorry for the poor review but we were disappointed with our choice of hotel. We will look for something different on our next visit and with a more lenient policy on cancellations since we had also purchased insurance on our trip.

This property was absolutely disgusting! If we were not traveling with our dog, we would have found a different place to stay. Hair in the tub, on the bathroom floor. Multiple outlets in the room did not work. Air fresheners plugged in all throughout the hallways. Save yourself and go elsewhere

My bedframe is exposed sharp edges and I hit my feet on it every time I crawl back into bed I actually cut my foot so. And the bathroom floors are not very clean the room itself was OK

Not so good. We paid extra for 2 Queen beds and got 2 Double beds. Then when we discovered they were doubles and called down to ask I was told they were queens. Clearly NOT Queens. My husband is 6'4" and built like a football lineman - it was two bad nights of sleep. I got elbowed and literally fell off the bed twice. The beds were on wheels. ?? So when he would love the whole bed moved. My daughter staying in the other bed a said she she would roll over the bed hit the headboard and roll away from The wall. Room was ok clean but very very basic. Breakfast was ok. Basic but filled. We had someone smoking pot next to us and it came thru the bathroom vents - not a nice smell.

I always start with the positives: 1. The room and common areas were clean. 2. The staff was friendly and efficient. 3. The continental breakfast was adequate. The one negative was the thermostat dial was locked in place. There was a toggle switch to select the system mode (heat, cool or off). The heat setting was reasonable, but I like to have some adjustment control. I would probably stay here again

Very much an older motel. Could use remodeling. The bathroom really needs new flooring, the grout makes it look dirty. The bed was soft but pretty comfortable. It needs a more solid base. Older furniture. For the price, it served the purpose.

The bed was comfortable and the price was good just for a place to sleep for a night, I wouldn’t feel comfortable staying more then that though. Definitely a 3 star hotel

No one patrols the property during the night. Someone honked their horn several times during the night. Not a car alarm, just laying on the horn. Cars left running and revving engines outside our window all night. Bath door doesn't close. Light around bath mirror didn't work. Only a bare bulb in the bath ceiling, so it's difficult to see yourself in the mirror. Fridge didn't work. Room furniture is in poor condition and walls need repair and painting. Scary electrical plugs. Bed horribly soft, lumpy and old, but sheets were clean. Alarm clock/radio was off, but made sporadic sounds like a Geiger counter all night. Walls are terribly thin. Could hear people talking in the hall like they were in the room with us. This is the first time in my life I ever checked out of a room early. even though they wouldn't allow a refund for the second night. We should have had an inkling from the warning sign at the front desk that you had 10 minutes within your arrival to determine if your room was adequate or not. Front desk has no people skills but to show you where to sign your name. I live in a city. Even in small town Escanaba, I would not feel safe going out to my car during the night around this motel. Stayed at the Super 8 a few doors down and atmosphere was completely safe. Heat registers in the hallways are all damaged, dented, and rusty.

Ac unit broken. When we complained in the morning he didn’t give us a break on the price. We had found the problem late in the night and just suffered through our stay. Too noisy from traffic to open the window. Too late at night to want to go to another room. He didn’t care about it.

I always start with the positives: 1. The room and common areas were clean. 2. The staff was friendly and efficient. 3. The wifi was solid. 4. The continental breakfast had many options. The one negative was something I've never experienced: The bathroom light didn't work. I mentioned this to the desk clerk, and she offered the usable suggestion of utilizing the heat lamp. I'm assuming this problem will be fixed

The bed was SUPER soft. Welles we got here there was a homeless drunk (the desk clerks words) passed out in the bench just outside the front door. DEFINITELY a turn off. We pulled in thinking that we should cut our losses and find a different motel. But we took the chance. The room was clean, besides the mouse poop behind the chair. The guy who check us in was SUPER NICE! He’s the about the only reason why we did stay.

We rented a room for 4 nights, there was no hot water for a shower, let alone for the hot tub, the first day that we went out on our excursions we came back to our room it had been cleaned and our medication had been stolen! When I confronted the front desk about this medication missing, I asked to speak to a manager, he told me he was the manager that he was the one who cleaned our room! He was the manager he said he cleaned our room, but He was clueless on where the pills were, when they were left on the sink with the rest of our belongings!

It was all run down and nothing replaced or even kept up on in years and beware we tried to check out a day early because it was an awful place and they tried to keep us checked in with no reciept and refused to give us our money for the 2nd night if we left and forced us to stay! You dont get a free breakfast you pay for it with a horroble room and also limited on the "free breakfast" signs all over saying you can only have one of any item for the continental breakfast. Would never recommended not nice staff and you are even followed around the property being watched by them. Choose anywhere else to stay!

Upon checking in, we were told the room we booked with the pictures presented was actually an upgrade, and that the pictures don’t mean anything . We were forced to pay more money to stay in a room that worked for us. The beds were so terrible. I had to go and buy an air mattress and sleep on it for the duration of my one week stay. Very outdated.

Friendly staff, clean updated room (except for tub which was ok), limited breakfast but still appreciated, pleasantly surprised by the good quality for the price. The only drawback are the grounds, hotel is on a busy highway with only a parking lot for a view, but that's not why we stayed here so it was fine. Overall a very good stay.

No one patrols the property during the night. Someone honked their horn several times during the night. Not a car alarm, just laying on the horn. Cars left running and revving engines outside our window all night. Bath door doesn't close. Light around bath mirror didn't work. Only a bare bulb in the bath ceiling, so it's difficult to see yourself in the mirror. Fridge didn't work. Room furniture is in poor condition and walls need repair and painting. Scary electrical plugs. Bed horribly soft, lumpy and old, but sheets were clean. Alarm clock/radio was off, but made sporadic sounds like a Geiger counter all night. Walls are terribly thin. Could hear people talking in the hall like they were in the room with us. This is the first time in my life I ever checked out of a room early. even though they wouldn't allow a refund for the second night. We should have had an inkling from the warning sign at the front desk that you had 10 minutes within your arrival to determine if your room was adequate or not. Front desk has no people skills but to show you where to sign your name. I live in a city. Even in small town Escanaba, I would not feel safe going out to my car during the night around this motel. Stayed at the Super 8 a few doors down and atmosphere was completely safe. Heat registers in the hallways are all damaged, dented, and rusty.

The property was close to the state fair, that was the only positive. It was very dirty. Splatters on the walls, brown "gunk" stuck to the towels. The air conditioner was covered in black mold so we didn't even use it. It was a very long hot night. I would never stay here again.

We brought our own pillows based on other reviews, and glad that we did. The bed was comfortable. Breakfast was minimal, which is fine with us because we aren’t huge breakfast eaters. staff was pleasant. we would stay here again, based on value.

Not so good. We paid extra for 2 Queen beds and got 2 Double beds. Then when we discovered they were doubles and called down to ask I was told they were queens. Clearly NOT Queens. My husband is 6'4" and built like a football lineman - it was two bad nights of sleep. I got elbowed and literally fell off the bed twice. The beds were on wheels. ?? So when he would love the whole bed moved. My daughter staying in the other bed a said she she would roll over the bed hit the headboard and roll away from The wall. Room was ok clean but very very basic. Breakfast was ok. Basic but filled. We had someone smoking pot next to us and it came thru the bathroom vents - not a nice smell.

It was ok if you’re just looking for a place to sleep at during your travel. Breakfast area was small, apple and orange juice was watery and staff didn’t take care of it. They didn’t refill anything they were out of (likes cups for the waffles or utinseles without being asked.
