Very safe. Parking is on the property behind a huge gate controlled by remote key given with your room key. Great view from the upstairs deck where we had breakfast (included). Staff was incredibly welcoming!

Beautiful setting and room, totally private balcony overlooking nature, comfortable bed, and delicious breakfast. Was nice to be able to watch an English speaking movie on Netflix. Staff is very helpful and easily able to communicate with us in English. Decided to stay a second night.

Place tucked into a neighborhood few minutes from restaurants and shops. Very friendly staff. Great views of cloud forest from roof. Brought us juice while sitting on rooftop. 2 comfortable bedrooms and full kitchen.

Would definitely stay here again. Rooms were clean, tidy, and looked new. We liked that it was a bit more remote and it felt very safe with gated parking. Terrific breakfast (you order the night before and schedule what time you'd like to eat).

This place was super sweet! Really lovely staff, excellent views on the shared patio deck area, and a clean, cozy room. The breakfast was amazing every single morning. There was also a really cute kitty wondering around the property which we really enjoyed.

Stay was fabulous. The terrace offers beautiful views of the ocean in the distance. You can see and hear the sounds of myriad birds as well. The breakfast was just perfect to get the day started. And they helped with making recommendations and reservation for tours and activities in the area.

Anfahrt zum Hotel ist problemlos. Parkplätze sind vorhanden und sicher. Das Frühstück war lecker und ausreichend, frisch zubereitet, Kaffee und Saft können kostenlos nachgefüllt werden. Das Personal ist sehr hilfsbereit und unterstützt bei der Suche nach lokalen Aktivitäten. Nationalparks können von hier aus problemlos erreicht werden oder man lässt sich vor Ort abholen. Ich hatte zusätzlich eine Nachttour im Hotel gebucht. Der Anbieter kann direkt vom Hotel beauftragt werden. Auch die Restaurantempfehlungen sind top. Wir können das Hotel sehr empfehlen und würden wiederkommen.

Wonderful price for a wonderful apartment. Me and my mom stayed here. Each got our own room. There is a living room, complete kitchen with microwave, fridge, stove and utensils. Also, there is a nice balcony to sit outside. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay her again.

The service, cleanliness and food quality were top notch. The staff were highly professional, helpful and thoughtful. The room I stayed in had just been built. The grounds are well kept and the flowers and wildlife are beautiful as well as the amazing view from the upstairs outdoor seating area. I loved having a kettle and coffee machine in the room with tea and coffee available as well as a refrigerator and ample space to spread out and unwind. I would highly recommend this place and hope to return someday.

The stay was fine but there were a lot of bugs since they left the window in the bathroom open. The hot water supply is unreliable. It tends to go out in the morning. So it is hard to know if you can take a shower in the morning or not. During our last day, the ceiling starts to leak. Wish the TV was bigger and better quality as it is impossible to cast from our smart devices onto the TV, and the internet web browser interface from the TV is very hard to use. During the rainy season, this is a major issue as there is not much to do when it is pouring rain outside. The utensils in the kitchen are also very old and need an upgrade. The rubber soup spoon is sticky (due to worn out plastic) and all the teflon pots are badly scratched up. The staff were really nice and the chef cooked a really delicious breakfast.

Very well kept small hotel with a very nice breakfast and great view from the shared deck We got 2 rooms for our family of 4 which were right next to each other, so perfect ! We enjoyed the privacy as our room balconies which faced a nice grove of trees. Only complaint was the sewer gas smell which occasionally came from the bathroom , this seems to be a common occurrence in Costa Rica due to the plumbing set up.

Calathea Lodge is in a perfect location to tour Monteverde area. The balcony facing trees in the back allowed us to capture a picture of a teal-browed motmot. The reception staff are exceptionally helpful in arranging tours, and any last minute requests. Breakfast was sumptuous and helped us enjoy long hikes during the day. They even packed us breakfast to go on the day we checked out because we had an early start. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

This hotel was great for our stay in Monteverde. It was a bit removed from the middle of town but close enough. Our tours were only 10-20 mins drive away. Staff were incredibly helpful and even improvised breakfast for a day we had a very early start.
This hotel was great for our stay in Monteverde. It was a bit removed from the middle of town but close enough. Our tours were only 10-20 mins drive away. Staff were incredibly helpful and even improvised breakfast for a day we had a very early start.

We especially liked the staff at the Calathea lodge. They were very helpful and phoned in delivered meals for us. They also called for transportation when needed. They provided laundry service when our clothes got soiled during zip lining. Glenn is the best!

Sehr saubere und gut ausgestattete Zimmer. Die komplette Hotelanlage ist in einem hervorragenden Zustand. Die Anlage ist sehr sicher, aber man benötigt ein Auto wenn man in die Stadt möchte. Anfahrt zum Hotel ist problemlos. Parkplätze sind vorhanden und sicher. Das Frühstück war lecker und ausreichend, frisch zubereitet, Kaffee und Saft können kostenlos nachgefüllt werden. Das Personal ist sehr hilfsbereit und unterstützt bei der Suche nach lokalen Aktivitäten. Nationalparks können von hier aus problemlos erreicht werden oder man lässt sich vor Ort abholen. Ich hatte zusätzlich eine Nachttour im Hotel gebucht. Der Anbieter kann direkt vom Hotel beauftragt werden. Auch die Restaurantempfehlungen sind top. Wir können das Hotel sehr empfehlen und würden wiederkommen.

This is a great spot, I’ve stayed here several times! The staff is always super friendly and the facilities are very clean! It’s right on the edge of town, which makes it easily accessible to all the restaurants and activities!

What an amazing property! It is about 30 min walk from Downtown, but there is a wonderful Italian restaurant nearby (delish!!). Very small unique proprty, very clean, wonderful breakfast. Staff at the from desk (Melanie and Glenn) were super friendly and helpful.

This is a small hotel a couple of km from Santa Elena. We paid about $65/night for a very clean room with patio. Nice breakfast that we took on the open balcony near registration. The property is fenced and gated. Very safe. Very clean and well cared for. There’s not much to do on the property itself but that compensates for the low cost for a very modern and clean room.

The staff (ie: Glenn) were great and friendly. I was a bit surprised by the location when we first arrived as it's in a bit of a residential sort of neighborhood. However, it was not a problem and we were just a short drive into the downtown area for shopping and dining. The breakfast that is included was very nice. There is an elevated deck with comfortable seating offering great views to the west. You can actually see the Pacific if it's not too hazy.

1.5 Km from center of village. But you have the option to use the walkway along main road to walk up to center. Very quiet location. Room great and the staff very helpful if asked. For early birds, you can order sandwiches and fruit for take away.

Place tucked into a neighborhood few minutes from restaurants and shops. Very friendly staff. Great views of cloud forest from roof. Brought us juice while sitting on rooftop. 2 comfortable bedrooms and full kitchen.

The location is hard to find, so make sure your GPS is working papery. It's a mile and quarter walking distance to the downtown. The lodge is nice and clean. I wish the bathroom was a little bigger. If you go to Monteverde from La Fortuna side, watch out for the road! It's very very bumpy. Plan plenty of time to get there. You don't want to drive in the dark, especially in rainy day.

Calathea Lodge is in a perfect location to tour Monteverde area. The balcony facing trees in the back allowed us to capture a picture of a teal-browed motmot. The reception staff are exceptionally helpful in arranging tours, and any last minute requests. Breakfast was sumptuous and helped us enjoy long hikes during the day. They even packed us breakfast to go on the day we checked out because we had an early start. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Friendly staff, spacious suite, and outstanding breakfast! The view was gorgeous from our 2nd floor room, and the shared balcony area was very welcoming. Great place to stay in the Monteverde/Saint Elena area.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Calathea. The staff were very helpful and amazing. We stayed in the clean bird room, the bathroom was big and we had a nice balcony to ourselves. The only reason why I am giving a 5-star overall is because the breakfast was a bit bland. If the question is if I would stay at this property again, I definitely will!

Calathea was great for Monteverde, excellent location and the staff was extremely helpful. Their breakfast was great and they even accommodated for our early tours. Make sure to review your reservation before arriving as at first they gave us the key to the wrong room.

The breakfast was great. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Pamela welcomed us on arrival and made sure we had everything we needed. The front desk booked us in at Selvantura for ziplining and hanging bridges. Also booked us in for both a night tour and coffee tour with a small group operators. They knew us by name. Great staff!
