Great rooms. Excelent Service. Gym is too basic.

Great central location. Walkable to pontocho alley, Gion district, shoji Gion station (5 stops to fushimi inari shrine), Nishiki market, ninja museum etc etc. it’s a beautiful hotel with top floor bar and 3rd floor lounge with free coffee, wine and snacks in afternoons.

Average hotel. No spa, pool services. Check in desk at 8th floor. Excellent location though. Specially if you going for cherry blossoms

Beautiful facilities

We had 6 adults in 3 rooms. Everyone loved this hotel for these reasons: (1) the perfect location - easy walk to everything including Nishiki Market, Samurai, all the sites on the walking tour, restaurants, shops! 10 min bus from Kyoto Station (no transfers). (2) room comfort & view - Large room, comfortable bed, huge bathroom with 2 sinks, 2 large closets, bathroom, separate shower/tub, great shower pressure, lots of amenities, view of the mountains; (3) 3rd floor lounge - Open at all hours, with all sorts of beverages incl variety of coffee drinks, flat & still water, juices, wine. Also, candy and snacks In evening, they provide bamboo skewers of marshmallows; (4) 8th floor bar and restaurant have a great view; (5) unparallelled staff - so hiepful and nice!

Centrally located property. Clearly as tourist location. Lounge and library for hotel guests. Only issue is the fitness facility didn't have weights - only aerobic equipment

Stayed five nights, centrally located and impeccably clean. Nice sized rooms and a decent breakfast. I really enjoyed the happy hour 2pm-10pm with free soft drinks and wine and a nice atmosphere. My only negative comment was the bar service in the lounge and rooftop bar was obscenely overpriced. Not a big deal as right outside the door are endless options with an active nightlife and shopping in the heart of Kyoto. Would definitely stay again if we return to Kyoto.

This hotel was amazing, the rooms were so large and spacious. They even offer daily free snacks and beverages by the firepit which was a nice way to unwind after a long day. Highly recommmend this hotel to anyone. There is also great coffee downstairs at Blue Bottle!

Everything about this hotel is exceptional. Free drinks pre and post dinner. Open fireplace on deck even had marshmallows to toast. Staff extremely courteous and polite at all times. One of the best hotels ive stayed in. Was booked in initially through Intrepid tour and i had a further 4 nights post tour in a cheaper room. Let me stay on with no further cost

トイレのボールの中を綺麗にしていない様です。クリーニングに来てくれた後も同じでした。部屋の角や廊下などの角にも結構埃などがたまっていて、値段を考えるとその辺が気になりました。後夜時々酔った人達がうるさい事もありましたが、その他は大体良かったです。

I loved this hotel for MOST things. The only thing I wasn't happy with is the cleanliness. I am very picky when it comes to clean rooms. When we arrived there was a stain on the comforter and then when they took that off the mattress pad was stained and dirty. They replaced all of it right away and were very apologetic and gave us a couple of free drinks at the bar. Other than that, everything was great. I loved the layout of the room as it was nice for multiple people. Ie: one could shower while the other used the toilet / got ready. The top floor had the bar and the patio with lovely views, as well as the breakfast which was great! It's located in a cute part of the city with so many stores and restaurants nearby. However, it still felt like a cozy and quaint part of the city. It's about a 7ish min walk from the train. We loved our stay.

Nice hotel with great views from the restaurant, rooms comfortable and clean. Good choice for staying in the center of the beautiful city. In front of hotel people are getting together on the lawn but not disturbing at all, nice to watch.

The hotel es perfect location. The room was twin bed room which was very small. No space at all. If you travel with a lot of languages you will have problem. The breakfast eras was very nice. The breakfast for $25 not worthy. They have Japanese breakfast with for perfect. But the buffet was very few varieties.

Property, size of rooms

Large room, comfortable beds, rain shower, cold a/c, close to Gion & Pontocho Alley, subway/train station, buses. Nice green area in front of the property.

Room was very spacious, bed and pillows were comfortable, and the location could not have been more central. The hotel had hundreds of restaurants and bars within walking distance and is close to a major rail station. However, even though in the middle of the hustle and bustle the building was very quiet and we were able to get excellent rest. Would absolutely stay here again if I come back to Kyoto.

Gorgeous hotel in an ideal location in central Kyoto. Walkable to train stations, shopping, bars and restaurants. We stayed in a corner room and it was spacious and quiet.

Really nice big room. Great bathroom. Lovely views from the floor to ceiling windows. Only downside was no laundry machines in the hotel but I was helpfully directed by staff to a laundry 5 mins away which did the job. Would definitely stay again.

Nice room and hotel. In a pretty lively area of town, some late night noise.

Staff helped find last minute reservations

Hotel was lovely - clean and well-equipped. Even has a library for working during the day. Very near transportation and fairly easy to get a taxi. The staff, however, varied greatly and most were somewhat useless. None spoke any English and they used Google translator to mixed effect. One told us that a site we wanted to see was a 40-minute taxi ride. In fact, it's a 20 minute $1.50 train ride. Most of the time they had no idea about tourist sites or conveniences.

We really enjoyed our five night stay at The Gate Hotel Kyoto. The check in staff were very efficient and friendly, especially given there was a large group checking in at the same time. At first, I thought our room was a bit basic, but it was actually very nice. We were on the seventh floor with a beautiful view of the mountains. It was so nice to wake up to this each morning. And the bed and pyjamas provided were very comfortable. We would highly recommend those rooms. Breakfast was good, and for our five night day it was sufficient. (The only recommendation I would have, is more hooks or luggage racks in the room. We did request one which was promptly brought to us) The best thing about the Gate Hotel Kyoto, is the fantastic location. You walk out of this quiet hotel, and you’re in the streets with tons of restaurants and shopping and an incredibly lively atmosphere. We are a retired couple and definitely enjoyed the neighborhood. If you are staying in Kyoto for more than a couple nights, I would highly recommend this area as it just offers so much. It is also convenient to get to Kyoto station by train, bus or taxi.

Good experience, but there is a few things clients should know. Like the reception is on the 8th floor. There is no bell boy, you don't get help with luggage. If you get there after hours there is really a problem.

服務越來越差… 這是第二次來住 ，進門後 發現冷氣晚上 沒反應，call櫃檯 請人來處理，過了約5分鐘後…來女服務員來到房間，竟然不脫鞋子直接踩來房間地毯區，服務員用英語說話語氣 很快 、大聲，態度又不佳，竟然態度不佳 的質問我們 何時打開冷氣…😱最後等到約20分鐘後冷氣才正常 …另早餐的西餐 （吐司）實在 難下嚥 （像泡到油的吐司）….

Overall it was a sub average stay at the Gate. Not sure where all the positive reviews came from. First of all, the room (essential twin) wasn’t great when we arrived. Although it was clean the materials were cheap and some strange decisions have been made ie towel hanger over the toilet? We ended up asking for an upgrade as we really weren’t happy which they accommodated and we moved to the 7th floor with a much better view and a materially better room. Although same themes underlined. I found the staff at the front desk rather hostile, perhaps down to the language barrier but even still it didn’t scream luxury one bit. The layout of the hotel also left a lot to be desired. 8th floor was nice enough but we didn’t really end up spending much time up there so it sort of felt like you were in some kind of housing complex with very little character. Food was also very mediocre (priced reasonably though). Went for the Chefs lunch at Anchor which set me back ~£18 for 4-5 courses. Each course was incredibly small and was a little shocked at the Pumpkin Soup which had a depth of what must have been 3cm at best. Main meal was nice along with desert but again really not living up to the reviews. The good - location location. Was in the Giotto area, with incredibly close proximity to Pontocho Park and all the restaurants there. Shopping nearby as well and very well located for transport. Overall is was a sub average experience and ended up leaving the hotel 1 day early.

Wonderful hotel in a great location. Very near subway entrance with restaurants and bars nearby. Staff customer service was 5 star. Will return again.

Nice location and facility. But concierge staff wasn’t very helpful. It was slightly raining and they weren’t even willing to call a taxi for us.

Not sure the price justifies the hotel. Just so everyone is aware the hotel is literally in the busiest part of Kyoto in the middle of all the nightlife. If you are out all day and want to relax, this is not the hotel for you. Had to ask hotel for ear plugs each night because the streets were filled with people yelling till about 4 am. I stayed Friday, Saturday, Sunday, so that had something to do with it but still would have avoided had I known. The room was okay, average for a 4 star hotel. The bottom of the hotel is also a regularly visited area by many people who are not staying in the hotel, so it’s pretty much loud and busy all day. Overall I’d give about 3.5 out of 5, and wouldn’t recommend this to friends and family.

We chose The Gate Hotel Kyoto as our "headquarter" for its extremely convenient location for our Japan travel itinerary. And I cannot emphasize how convenient it is. It is about a 5 minute walk from the metro station that connects you to Arashiyama, Fushima Inari, and even Osaka. The first night we arrived and walked 10 mins to Nishiki Market, and then we discovered we were right next to downtown Kyoto. 20 min walk and you reach Ninenzaka and Kyomizudera. Everything is walking distance to this hotel. The rooms are quite spacious and have a great view of Kyoto, and everything feels like brand new. The staff is amazing. They have a traditional Japanese breakfast, but it runs fast. They start serving at 630 am, we arrived at 7am and they were sold out already. Next morning we went at 630 and there were already guests in the restaurant ordering the Japanese breakfast, so if you want the traditional, be there right at opening time or risk it getting sold out. Definitely I would recommend this hotel if this is your first time in Kyoto. Also, Kichi Kichi omurice is lke 2 minutes away on foot if you like viral tiktok trending stuff

Very beautiful, modern hotel centralized in Kyoto. Kind and very helpful staff. Walkable to shopping and dining. Offers free wine from 3-10 (could be wrong on the start time). It is a little bit far from the Kyoto station so you will have to take a cab or Uber or go to get to the train station.

The hotel nearby a lot of shopping area, room are clean and comfortable, near train station but no direct train from Kyoto station.

Absolutely incredible hotel. The breakfasts were amazing - definitely try the Japanese option, 27 small fancy dishes - incredible. Drinks in the evening and performances!!!! I\'ve never stayed at a hotel that included first rate performances (ie. Geishas, and unfortunately we missed it but drummers too)! Also, it\'s in a fantastic area to stay, - shopping promenades across the street "Nishiki Market - ie. Kyoto\'s kitchen", tons of restaurants, walkable to shrines and the Gion district. Very clean - first rate. I\'d definitely recommend.

Breakfast options are limited but everything else about the hotel and service were fantastic!

京都四条通り〜河原町辺りで、晩の飲食を楽しむには最高のロケーションで、実際、最高に楽しめました。 京都の露店食文化を楽しめる錦市場にも、徒歩5分程度で行けます。 また、和朝食のおばんざい料理が圧倒的です！強くお勧めします。

Loved the comfort in this hotel, beds and pillows were amazing. They provided pajama set which was so comfortable that we ended up buying it. Breakfast (western) was very nice with plenty of non-meat options. Japanese breakfast was sold out on both mornings we had breakfast there. Neat and clean room/bathroom, nice modern hotel (cinema room was very spacious). Would love to stay there again.

It was great clean and quiet property. Only area of opportunity is to make breakfast more diverse. The breakfast had limited options.

We enjoyed our stay at the Gate Hotel Kyoto immensely. We stayed in a Triple Room which was a good size room. The breakfast was excellent. They serve traditional western breakfasts but they also serve Japanese style breakfast as well (up to 30 per day) which was excellent. The hotel is centrally located near shopping and the Gion District. We also enjoyed the Shimabura Tayu show which showcases one of 5 Tayu (similar to Geisha or Oiran) that exist in all of Japan! What a treat that was to see and it was completely free for hotel guests. Will definitely come back!
