Hyatt Place Altoona/Des Moines

Excellent front desk staff with wonderful dinner recommendations. Clean and comfy room. Only negative was the pool, the tile is so slippery that our kids and every other kid in the pool fell just walking from the pool to the hot tub. Terrible choice for pool flooring.

The pool was terribly dirty !!! Reported to staff the assistant chief executive at Hyatt and was told that usually corporate people stay there during there during the week and don’t use the pool and on the weekends a lot of sports teams stay so since my family stayed on a Tues . That was the reason the pool was FULL of a nasty green slime that looked like it hadn’t had chemicals in 6 months !!! Would never stay at another Hyatt again !!! If you have any problems, they will not make it right . And will come up with terrible reasons like this ….. terrible and someone like this is whom they put in charge !!!

The pool area could use better ventilation. The hot tub was broke and the water in it looked nasty. My nephews still had fun in the pool. The staff was superb! The only other thing I strongly disliked was the soaps and shampoos. I used it but thought they were unpleasant. The rooms were very pleasant and the beds were comfy.

Disappointing hot tub was not working.

Such a nice clean hotel with a indoor pool and hot tub. Everything was so modern and clean. Love the Burger Shed restaurant next door that you can walk to after a long day at Adventureland. Excellent location being right across from the huge Des Moines Outlet mall and a 5 minute drive to Adventureland. We will definitely be staying here again next time we are in Altoona.

Love the room layout, nice and open with a great corner couch. Lots of hooks, perfect little extras. Great bar at nite and the most friendly staff we met in a long time.

Parking is terrible! Everything else is excellent!

Beautiful hotel and great pool/hot tub!

Was very excited about the hot breakfast and hot tub. The hot tub was broken. One of the days of our stay stopped serving hot food by kitchen staff a half hour before hours were over for breakfast. Kitchen guy didn’t seem very friendly or care. Seemed more into getting it over with. One of the days he had family eating at the breakfast area and was sitting with them instead of doing his job.

Super clean. All of the staff were helpful and friendly. Great socializing area out back!

it was clean and the rooms are nice and big ..the only thing i didnt like is when u 1st come in the hotel it did have a smell not sure wut it was but other then that i loved it

Very clean room, stairwell, and lobby

The hotel was pretty clean & staff was nice to us. The only down fall was our soap smelled like rotten eggs & the toilet chain kept falling off. You can hear people waking around but most places are like that. Breakfast was decent, lots of bacon, trail bars, & toast with peanut butter so that was a plus. Nice little lake in the back with sidewalk halfway around. Adventureland & outlet mall in the front so location was great. Burger shed next door had ok food. Ice machines look like they could use a clean but nice that they are in their own room so not noisy in halls. Patio seems nice but too hot out to enjoy much. Overall it was pretty good.

Found a cockroach in my bed. Got another room and a free night at a Hyatt but this is discussing. Pool and HotTub where not clean either.

One of the best hotel stays we have had in a while. The front desk staff was very friendly and actually seemed to enjoy their jobs! Made our stay start off on the right foot! The rooms were awesome, very spacious, modern and clean. Breakfast was great! We will definitely be back!

A beautiful new facility, and kudos to housekeeping because it was immaculate. However, get rid of the motion, sensor light in the bathrooms. Who wants blasted in the face with light when you wake up in the middle of the night to get a drink of water? None of the rooms have microwaves. That’s a first in a new property for me. Room darkening curtains do not darken the room at all. Plenty of light seeping underneath as the windows go from floor to the ceiling. Scratchiest sheets I have ever slept on, and I travel ALOT. I understand that they need to be bleached and fabric softener is rarely used in hotels, but get some higher quality sheets. Toilet paper and tissues were also super cheap. Finally, hardly any food options outside of a few candy bars and chips. I like to purchase an orange juice or an iced coffee. Very disappointed with the lack of creature comforts. Such a beautiful space but all of the details are lacking. My first bad review of a hotel. Again, a shout out to the housekeeping staff.

Water view was nice

Hotel rooms had TV and WiFi problems over the two days. Switched rooms but same problem. Was give a national number who supposedly had some special workaround. Was put on hold for 10 minutes so I just dropped off. Also know that no corrective action by hotel management has been initiated so new tenants will have the same problems. Not good - nice hotel except for this problem.

No microwave? No outlets on both sides of a king size bed.

Most comfortable beds ever!

Great location. Very cool pond behind hotel. No carpeting in rooms which is great. Only negative is the room didnt have a microwave. Most times we dont need but naturally when we did, room didnt have it. Staff was very pleasant.

The room was really big and clean. I like the floor plan w mini living room. Curtains kept all of the light out for day sleeping. It feels like an entire apartment.

This is a great hotel. We have stayed here several times. The only negative I have this time is the room we had was near the side exit door and we could hear it being open and closed all night long. Other than that the room was large and the beds we’re comfortable.

We had a king room. The bed was super comfortable, the space roomy, the bathroom clean and spacious. My complaint is that the lighting is TERRIBLE. Fix the lighting and Hyatt gets excellence.

When we checked in just after 11 pm, we found a lot of water on the floor due to the shower head dripping. I had to dry the floor with several towels in order to be able to use the bathroom. No empathy from the front desk staff that evening or in the morning.

Great stay. Very nice hotel with great staff. Devon at check in was courteous and fun to talk to.

Easy check in. Michelle was very friendly, helpful and kind.

They double charged us and created an extremely tight budget for us to get the rest of the way too Arizona

Excellent room and easy location to get in and out of. Only minus is, slow in returning Deposit for accommodation. Will stay next time in area.

We had a team event in town and had many parents and children using the front lobby area and pool. Front desk advised that she needed to shut the pool down at 730 as it was unsafe. When asked if she tested the water she advised she could sense the water was not right. In the morning the new front desk advised that there was nothing wrong with the pool and she didn’t want to deal with us. Parents and kids were being well behaved and not disruptive at all. Was very disappointing to the kids that they could not use the pool as this was one of the main reasons we selected this hotel. :(

We were in town for the Des Moines IMT marathon and were going to watch our daughter run. First thing when we checked in, there was 1 person running the front desk. I tell him my name and he looks for my reservation. Once he finally finds it he asks for my card for incidentals. I tap my card then after several clicks and minutes, he says he's having problems in systems giving us our keys. In the meantime he is on the phone with some tech support and also has some employee telling him he can't find the truck keys so he's doing several things at the same item as checking us in. Then he tells me that he needs me to tap my card again and I say are you going to charge me twice? He said no we don't charge you for your room until you check out. I said I've already paid for the room several weeks ago. Miraculously then he can get me my keys. He also tells us at checkin that the bar is open until 11. My husband and I go down at 9:30. There are us and 4-5 others down there. At 9:50 he says the bar is closed. WHAT? Breakfast was supposed to be open at 7. We go down a few minutes early and wait. At 7:09 the lady at the front tells us and about 10 other people who are waiting that they are running late but we can go in and grab muffins and fruit. We went in because the race starts at 8 and we needed to get downtown. The man that was stocking stuff starts slamming stuff around as if to show he irritated we are in there. CRAPPY SERVICE ALL AROUND.

We love to make a weekend out of our ISF trip, and this was our 4th year now staying overnight at a hotel..we’ve had some trial and errors the last 3 times but THIS year we found the winner! Hyatt Place was truly everything it claimed to be and more! Main uses of the room of course is to sleep and shower, so why does it really matter where we stay?! The location was super convenient and comfortable being near the outlet mall, there’s a variety of places to eat real close by, it took us no time at all to get to the fairgrounds, and their cleaning crew is truly top tier! We’ve stayed a different place each year and sadly did not have great experiences, but the Hyatt stole our hearts only adding to a trip we look forward to every year! We would highly recommend them to all, you won’t be disappointed! (already booking for 2026) Thank you so much, and we’ll see you next time!

The 2nd shift front counter lady was amazing! She made our stay even more great by her positive, bright, friendly, welcome everytime we entered the hotel. (She deserves a raise literally the best customer service we have ever had) All staff was very friendly and it had a beautiful view with a hot tub and a pool. Also nice burger restaurant next door with lake views. Family or romantic getaway its perfect location and hotel. The outlet mall is right across the street and you can see Adventureland from the hotel.

Hotel is immaculate and in a quiet part of town. Lot's of parking, shopping and restaurants within very short walk and easy on off to get in to town. Highly recommended.

The property was very clean & modern. The staff was helpful and my room was great. I have high standards for hotels and this one met all my needs. Shares a parking lot with 2 great restaurants. Across the parking lot is an outdoor outlet mall. I think this was the only location with this amount of options close by. Highly recommend! The pool was great too.

The only knock against this property is in trying to find it!

Excellent location with a few great restaurants near by and an outlet mall across the street. Hotel was extremely clean and the staff was awesome. Would highly recommend this hotel to others.

I didn't spend too much time in the hotel except to sleep and have breakfast, but it was clean, smelled good, and the breakfasts were good, although I would like more bacon :). When I interacted with anyone at the front desk they were very friendly and helpful. The bartender, Matthew, was so patient to deal with our rowdy group! Bed was lumpy but decent.

The best night sleep I've ever had. The shower was amazing too! But... They had the worst breakfast I've ever had. The hot food was cold and the toast didn't fit in the toaster?

Best hotel stay I’ve had in a VERY long time!! Super friendly staff, including the manager who made it a point to greet every single staff member and guest she saw. Beautiful clean property and the BEST free hotel breakfast I’ve EVER had!!! I actually hate staying at hotels, but this stay was so pleasant, it actually changed my attitude completely!!!

You should have breakfast start at at least 6 am as people usually need to get on the road!

Excellent hotel!! I was expecting more variety at breakfast. Also, bed’s springs and pillows were too soft for my liking.

The front desk clerk Michelle was absolutely a doll. She goes out of her way to make you feel at home, the property is the cleanest I’ve seen at a hotel, I’m very picky . The breakfast was good and a notch above regular hotel breakfast. Rooms were spacious and clean. Shopping at the outlet was convenient. Adventure Land was easy to get to . The restaurant next to hotel had great food, customer service and the vibe was fun. All around I’d love to visit again. I was traveling with 1 other adult and 3 children.
