OYO Hotel Mona Lake Muskegon

This property is a SCAM. These pictures are clearly edited and in no way, shape or form a legit representation of this location and hotel. We pulled up and drove off immediately. The building was so dilapidated, we passed it at first thinking it was an abandoned building. The windows are busted and boarded up, landscaping is higher than the building, the place is disgusting. Do not stay here if you value your life.

They lied and have no pool or amenities of any kind!

Could not fine hotel, even though on Main Street. OYO is nowhere on the hard to read smallish sign. Lettering on the sign was so thin that it was impossible to see at the turnoff.

I liked that the property smelled better than most properties that are at this price range. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. What I didn't care about this property was that the area was dirty outside of the property, it felt extremely unsafe outside and there was not much that a single woman could do to make herself feel safer other than stay in her room.

People were standing in the parking lot watching every move we made. Felt unsafe from the start. Left immediately. I would like a refund. We didn’t even bother to check in

Staff were nice and informational. Property had no visible sign, was run down and in horrible neighborhood. Not very well lit. In need of complete updating. Definitely lock car and keep eye on it. Don’t go out after dark in summer.

Front desk person great but everything is downhill from there.. Old dirty wornout building in an unsafe area.

Clean, low-budget motel, hard to find because the name was nowhere to be seen on the property. The OYO Motel is part of the Inn at Mona Lake, several buildings that appear to have been separate motels at one time. The address is 3450 Hoyt Street, but the motel itself is actually about the 4 building back, behind a liquor store, along a driveway parallel to US 31 BUS, between Hoyt & Green Streets. There were no frills, but it was comfortable & affordable. The free wi-fi was hit-or-miss, mostly miss during my stay. Hopefully this review will help others find this motel more easily. I would stay there again.

Mold on air conditioner

"Bed Bugs" Big Surprise :(. After entering the room, we found the towels, soups and chair are missing, pillow cases are dirty, strains are all over, phone is completely broken. Finally, bed bugs were keep biting whole night and we cannot fall a sleep even for a minutes. We keep awake, catch one bugs, reported and show hotel stuff hotel stuff in the morning. However, no action has been taken, not even a "sorry" word. Such a horrible experience I never face my whole life and we are still cleaning after return back home.

This place looks runned down on the outside and it isn't any better on the inside. The room had a smell the bathrooms where disgusting. The towel rack looked like it has never been cleaned the bathtub had what looked like black mold in the bathrooms. This place is definitely a last resort motel.

What i disliked was the fact that the sink leaked the tv had no cable hooked up the bathroom wasn't cleaned no toilet paper no clean towels. Found a bug trap sitting by the fridge no in room phone an no tv remote an the fact I scheduled the reservation on exsedea an the nite desk woman said it was scheduled but not paid for when I showed her the digital receipt but what I did like was the fact that the day desk person on 2/05/24 was very kind an professional and offered us another stay for free but the fact that the room was all ready paid for twice so it didn't end up being free wasn't born yesterday normally i never complain but I think we still deserve at least a week stay of our choice for free because I this is the 3rd time not the sending time they moved me 3 different times I have over 750 come up missing out of the rooms cause the front desk gave others a key card an the first time over a thousand and I didn't complain either time just went there to get some rest an away from the crazy of my friends house but ok have a good day an thank you for reading

Stained and smelly sheets in rooms hairs in the towels. Rented 2 rooms, one was not done, complete mess, really gross.

There were multiple windows around the property either broken or boarded up. We got to our room only to find that it had not been cleaned from the previous stay. We were quickly relocated but the room was filthy. There were stains all over the bed, the walls and doors had what looked like dried vomit on them (which I eventually wiped off with a wet towel), the shower was filthy as was the shower curtain, the towels were small and had black spots on them, the floors were so dirty that the bottoms of our feet turned black just walking once across the room. The tv barely worked and the remote was broken. The bathroom floor flooded every time we showered because the shower curtain was so short. The front desk staff really did try to help with some issues but he was very overwhelmed with the amount of complaints from others so we ended up just using towels to clean the place up as best we could.

Beds were all stained and had hair in them, hallways smelled.

The room had cockroaches in it

This place is disgusting. The hotel clerk was very nice and I thought everything was okay but I soon as I drove back to the building where my room was there's debris all over the parking lot it looks desolate I go to my room and I immediately smell musty odor it's dark it is nothing like the pictures posted on Expedia and there are stains on the sheets. So I didn't even take my things into the room I turned around and I went right back to the front desk and I asked to check out and she said no problem and that I would get a refund. That was over 2 weeks ago and now through Expedia I'm fighting for my refund and the hotel has told Expedia that I was a no-show. If I was a no-show how did they authorize my debit card $50 for incidental deposit? When I call the hotel to find out what's going on with my refund they're acting like Expedia is the one not trying to give me a refund.

The room was dirty and smelled like crack and cigarettes smoke...the beds where clean the bathroom was filthy... Its the cheapest place in town so expect what you paid for

Only 1 outlet worked in the room and the tv did not work and when i asked for assistance i was told someone would be up but never showed up

I want to like this property. They are trying. Newly redone rooms that have all new flooring, paint, beds are very nice. The hotel itself is old and has seen better days. I think they're working on it but the parking lot and surrounding area seems a little time warn and not real safe. Leaving our motorcycles out gave us a moment's pause. Staff is excellent and very nice. Heating units and low water pressure took away from the experience. No washcloths and just the bare basic soap with no shampoo and time worn towels. Got to give them credit for trying and give the staff kudos for taking care of us. Everything is headed in the right direction. I hope they get this upgraded externally as well as they have done the rooms. A little more intention with showers and water pressure and heat a/c. All in all it was clean and comfortable but I'm not sure I would bring my other half to stay overnight

Bring your own washcloths. We were provided bath towels, but we were told they don't offer washcloths. The room was clean, but bath towels were ify. The towels actually looked dirty. Nice size refrigerator and decent microwave. Wi-fi was sketchy, going out randomly. You get what you pay for.

When I got to the hotel I was put into a room that had no emergency latch, it had been torn off and the security deadbolt did not. I had to put a chair in front of it. The bathroom was covered in urine and the tub was filthy had to be clean before I could take a shower. The floors had not been mopped and you could see footprints of where it had not been. They kept my deposit because apparently I threw my receipt for it away in the trash can and they said rules were rules. Their attendant was already going through my trash when I got there to look for it. There was an arrest made on property when I was there. Would not recommend and a good deal financially turned into more expensive than a nice hotel.

I booked this room after looking through the pictures, which i now believe were enhanced photos. The room was large, clean and I loved the floors. The shower water was nice and hot. However, the microwave was rusty, the frig had a lot of ice build up, there was no blowdryer. The room had 1 lamp in the corner of the room, no clock or bedside table. The internet only worked on 1 thing at a time, either the tv or the computer, take your pick. The note at check-in almost made me forfeit my payment when it said make sure to lock up all your belongings. This will not be a repeat visit for me.

The floor was incredibly dirty. I put on socks immediate after I left my shower at home, and within no fewer than 100 steps around the room, my feet were DIRTY. I called the front desk and asked to have the room mopped the next day. Don't know if it happened because I wore sandals the rest of the time I had to walk. The HVAC unit was extremely sluggish until I cleaned the filter, making a 2" dust ball (see pics with bottle cap for reference). The drain to the tub had a foil bottle-safety film that I had to fish out to let it drain. Half the outlets in the room didn't work, so I had to unplug the lamp to use my laptop. The TV or its remote didn't work. (Didn't check the batteries in the remote). The saving grace was the friendly staff. Also -- and this is not a knock on the hotel -- a woman knocked on my door, asking if I was smoking because "an alarm went off." No alarm went off, and I've never smoked. I later saw her going from door to door at the other building, knocking and waiting for people to answer. It was bizarre.

Smell of pot in the halls, refrigerator did not work, no coffee marker nor microwave. The toilet paper holder was broken off the wall of the bathroom, the tile flooring was broken in places, the curtain was barely attached to the rod, the sill plate not atrached to the floor under the room door. We booked a 2 bed room and did not get a 2 bed room....it had a king only.

Overall room was comfortable, quiet, well kept. However, the road to get there was difficult to find and then the secondary road was the most pot holes I have ever been on. There some other oddities.

The room was spacious and clean. Bed was comfortable, pillow was not. Staff was friendly. I asked for towels twice from the night attendants and finally received some after four days in. The second night attendant tried very hard to remedy the issues and was able to get me trash bags and toilet paper but did not have access to towels... There were no wash cloths or shower rug. Small things but over my 8 day stay, it was a little tiring to not have what I needed when I needed it.

My husband and I stayed here for one night on the way back from our yearly camping trip at a music festival. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, that immediately put us at ease after a long day of travel, we had a restful night's sleep. The room was very spacious, clean and well-maintained. Our room even had a microwave. Rooms been renovated and modernised since under new management. The bathroom was clean and the shower had good water pressure and plenty of hot water—a definite plus after a day on the road. The room was quiet, allowing us to unwind and relax without disturbance. The hotel staff were friendly and accommodating, making check-in and check-out seamless and hassle-free. Overall, our experience at the hotel exceeded our expectations for a budget-friendly accommodation. I would not hesitate to stay here again during our future travels and would recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable and affordable place to stay.

The room was clean. That is about all for the stay that was good. I was not told to keep the receipt for my 50 dollar deposit. Nor was I given one. This morning when checking out I was told I needed the receipt to get back my deposit. I explained to the lady that I wasn’t given one. She told me someone would be contacting me about it when a manager was available. I still haven’t gotten a call. I called the hotel about my pillows that were left in the room. The staff said they threw them away. I asked to speak to someone about the issue and again was told to call tomorrow during business hours. So now they have my 50 bucks. 2 king size pillows. Thank god I set my phone up to find my phone. Cuz getting things ready to leave this morning I left my phone on the bed. Went back in the room to get and r bed had already been stripped. I asked the front desk if anyone saw my phone. I was told there was no phone. After it started to play chimes it was found. So my experience at this place was they cheat and lie. Also the microwave didn’t work. Never again.

I was denied a room even with my confirmation number. Expedia needs to refund my money and take this hotel off of their booking platform.

I gave a friend a couple nights in a hotel. He needed it. I paid for the room. Check in requesting an additional/ his credit/ debit card..He does not have either. Very inconvenient

They gave our room away, even after calling twice and sending a message confirming we would be late. When I got there, the desk clerk was very rude and unapologetic. There was nothing else available, and we ended up sleeping in our car.

Check in process was easy, room looked clean when I went into it, had to deal with people yelling in the middle of the night and arguing and other rooms. Check out was easy, but the lady at the desk was a real jerk.

I booked this room for the same night because I had something come up and needed a room. 2 hours after paying for it, I go to check in and they told me they were full and didn't even give me my room. They did not give me my money back and there was no way to modify the booking because check in time was already over. So they fully scammed me. They took my money and didnt let me stay. I had to go pay more money at another hotel where they actually let me stay.

When I got there I had made a 3 day reservation. They said that although I had a reservation they were not going to honor it! Although I was upset I’m glad they didn’t honor it as the place was in pretty tough shape.

The hotel charge higher rates than the rates at the time of booking the Expedia. Hotel agreed to refund difference but it is not credited to my account even after 7 days. Thanks Arvind

Hotel overbooked and our reserved room made in May 30,2024 was unavailable.

I only stayed 1 night. The property is hard to find. Vacant building next to property. Overgrown shrubs on vacant lot and on the property. Lake Mono is across a busy highway, not on the property. Felt unsafe being there.

This property was falsely advertised on Expedia and when I showed up the property was run down in an unsafe looking area with abandoned buildings nearby and had people milling about outside. The windows to the front desk area were tinted and grimey and when we checked in the front desk area was bare with nothing on the walls and no evidence of being a hotel or motel at all. The agent checked us in and told us we were in room 106 in a different building than the one where we checked in. The building next door had no OYO Hotel Mona Lake signage. It was bare with dirty windows and grimey looking. The people hanging around the parking lot looked as if they lived here in very poor conditions. Everyone was staring at us and we felt very unsafe. We felt like we were in a low income housing area and nothing about this property felt like a hotel. We booked this hotel through Expedia and the images for this hotel were COMPLETELY falsely advertised. We paid $362.66 for a 2 NIGHT stay at this location through EXPEDIA but we did not feel that this was even a legitimate business and were worried for our health and safety. We felt our lives and property could be in danger and so we told the front desk agent we wouldn't be staying there and we left immediately to seek other accommodations. This hotel gets panned everywhere but let me tell you the truth. I stay at cheap places all the time & this place is just par for the course for its type. The location is kind of suspect which is probably the biggest negative. I saw a few people smoking drugs but that always happens at these cheap dives. I wouldn't venture into the surrounding neighborhood by foot. The room was clean but the remote had no batteries & TV didn't work. I'm not a TV watcher anyway. I thought the rate was high considering the location & type of hotel but I saw nothing cheaper for that weekend. I think the rate is my biggest issue, it should be no more than $50 for this place.

I have slept in third-world countries around the world, and I don't recall a place remotely as dismal as this. The photos on Expedia are not the pictures of the actual rooms! Expedia needs to remove or have them post actual photos. We could not stay in the room it was so soiled and filthy. Had to travel half hour to another town to find a place to stay. Incredibly incovenient. Was told that they were going to refund the room costs but have not, so still dealing with that problem. The mismatched bed coverings were horribly stained and had holes in them. How could they continue to put them back onto a bed!? There was no covering around the once-white box springs and they were filthy with dirt. Floor was audibly sticky when you walked on it. The smell of bug spray in the room made my eyes water. There are multiple cars in the parking lot with missing body parts. Trash was piled up along the walkways between front entrance, rooms and in stairwell. Did not feel safe anywhere on this property.

This hotel is in a struggling area. My kids would not get out of the car. If I was alone with no items of value in the car I would have stayed, but kids were freaked out and car was kitted out for a weeks vacation, was not comfortable staying. Never checked in.

Towels were stained, old grungy shower curtain. only 1 pillow per bed. no clock, no phone, no coffee pot, no hair dryer, no remote for tv. no food. even the vending machine was just about empty. paint splatters all over the floor. no place to hang up clothes. rooms did not look anything like the pictures online. awful place.

Don't be fooled be the pictures. While the price may be affordable, this place is not in a nice neighborhood, nor as there any places to eat within walking distance. The staff were friendly, but the positives end there.
