The Terrace Hotel at Lake Junaluska

Beautiful view from or room over the lake. Parking was tough over the weekend, there was an event going on. Easily walkable to everywhere we needed to go.

- Breakfast was a full buffet and a very pleasant surprise - 3-4 mile walking paths around the lake, pickleball court, kayak and paddleboard rentals available - As a non-coffee drinker, was pleasantly surprised to find hot tea station in lobby - Short drive to Waynesville and Cherokee and Asheville within an hour's drive

Need more and convenient parking. Breakfast was very good.

The pool was about a mile away and charged $30 for three people, plus $3 to rent towels 🙄 TV went out ant 7:30pm and instead of replacing it they wanted us to pack up and move at 9:30pm. It was a nice hotel otherwise but these things dampened our spirts.

Nice views. Basic amenities. Needs more dining options. Currently only breakfast available. Had to go to Clyde for dinner.

The hotel is clean, but the beds are not comfortable and there was a persistent noise all night (probably from a big facility-level air conditioner). They also advise the things they don't have. I planned to have my birthday dinner there, but their restaurant is not working; the pool is closed and it's not even a hotel pool, it's just a community pool 5 min walk from the hotel. It's just misleading to advertise what they don't have.

Hotel was fine but really no better than a Motel 6 or other road side place to stay. The lake is pretty but way smaller than the website implies. Check-in staff had no suggestions of things to do or places to eat, didn't show how to get to our room & was generally unhelpful. Restaurant in site & gift shops were all closed, patio chairs were dirty & filled with cobwebs. Various places needed painting & just an overall feeling of a tired, old building. We weren't there for a spiritual retreat & so felt out of place with all the religious symbols, prayer request boxes & the signs saying that there was no alcohol allowed - not because of county laws but because it is bad for your body. I don't need to be judged by my hotel & I certainly felt that way.

The staff at the front desk and the restaurant were very friendly and helpful. The hotel has a large, excellent lobby and great terrace views of the lake. Our two-night stay was brief but all went smoothly and we will be back.

Very spacious common areas and great access to lake walk and great view. Restaurant only open for breakfast so have to go out.

Parking was kind of a nightmare (not enough parking onsite), there were a lot of maintenance issues, including a mildew smell in the restroom.

Pillows were not comfortable. Bed sheets were wrinkled and had stains on them. I wonder if they were changed prior to my stay.

Wonderful property. We really enjoyed our stay. Everything was clean, fresh, and comfortable. The staff was helpful and cheerful. The breakfast was very good with good selections. The area was beautiful. Will be back.

The outside areas where the balconies and chairs are looking like they haven't been cleaned in years. The chairs even the windows have cobwebs and spider webs everywhere. It made wonder if the rooms get the same type of attention.

The hotel appears recently updated. It was super clean and comfortable. The staff were all quite friendly. There was a breakfast buffet. We were there during a very slow time, so not sure how it would be during busy times, but we would definitely go back. The grounds of the lake are beautiful and peaceful.

Walk in shower and BR very clean as was the room. Always prefer no carpet so happy with that. The grounds around the hotel and lake were beautiful.

I had spiders in my room .. not little harmless ones like big ones with colors and it was musty old and oh yea it was haunted the staff tried to charge me twice and it was dated Af like 1990 vibes no microwave ect

Nice property, it was clean, comfortable and well maintained.

The bathroom could have been cleaned better. The baseboards were dirty and the shower needed a better cleaning. But the beds were very clean and the room itself was very nice.

We love staying at Lake Junaluska and really enjoy the Terrace. Clean and quiet with a very friendly staff!

It was a very peaceful place. Unfortunately there were blood stains on the sheets, and no microwave in the room. Rooms are a bit outdated, staff is great.

We stayed one night on a family trip to the mountains. We had 5 rooms. The lake view is spectacular! Rooms were spacious enough - get a king bed if not sold out; the doubles are somewhat tight for two people! Check in was easy, staff was friendly. Lobby nice & clean & great seating areas. We had ample parking for a large van and a large SUV. Water pressure could use some work and a deep clean might be needed but overall it was fine for a night.

The hotel was largely empty. Despite this, the staff placed a family with a newborn infant in the room adjacent to ours (instead of spacing us out) where we had to listen to a screaming baby through the walls for close to an hour as we tried to sleep. It was an unnecessary impediment to our enjoyment after a long day of travel. If the hotel had been more full, I could understand it. But, it was virtually empty. Despite this, the hotel has a very pretty setting.

Beautiful location and view. Older resort hotel that was originally Methodist but now hosts other Christian retreats and conferences. However while there were reminders of that in the public areas, I did not feel any kind of pressure or preaching. Front desk clerks were friendly. Nice big public areas inside and out for viewing the lake vista. The room itself was pretty small, as was the bathroom. The desk and chair were very basic, but having a small couch did make it more comfortable. The view of course was awesome and helped to make up for that. Fridge worked, although there was some food left in the freezer section. AC was ok, but being a small room, meant it blew air onto the bed a bit. The door that led to another room's door to make it an adjoining room could not be locked from my side, which was a little disconcerting. Shower water was just barely lukewarm in early evening, but hot in the morning. Just there for a 1-night stay. Dining option on site is just breakfast, I believe (did not use that), but a 5-10 minute drive in a few directions gives other options, including a 24-hour Waffle House. Ice machine not centrally located, all the way at one end of the long building (of course I was on the far opposite side). Overall the view and proximity to the lake were the selling point that made me choose this over another, newer hotel with more amenities.

Property is very dated and needs to be updated . Even though not smoking the room and hallway had traces of smoke smell

We stay at this property quite often, and are generally pleased with the facility. This visit, and it was late in the evening when we discovered it, the heat, air and fan in the room did not work. Thank goodness it was a moderate night and although neither of us got a "good" nights sleep, we were able to stay on top of the covers and get some sleep with absolutely no air moving. My daughter coughed some, but thank goodness it did not get hot enough to trigger her asthma. We reported it to the front desk upon checkout to avoid another customer having to deal with a non-working system, and we will certainly be back to the property next month. It's generally a quiet, safe property for women travelers.

Bathroom was very small. Had the sink in the room. Not convenient. Otherwise it was nice. Bed was comfortable room clean

Room #1418 was clean, with no bugs, and had a very comfortable bed. The employees were kind, especially the little old lady at the check-out desk by the second parking lot entrance. She offered me the last of the coffee before putting it away, and we chatted for a bit, which was sweet of her. My favorite part of the hotel was the interesting and varied selection of tea offered in the lobby. It wasn’t just the standard black, breakfast, green, or chamomile tea. They also had options like Sleepytime, Orange & Spice, and Lemon Ginger, as well as apple cider. For improvements, the coffee machine in Room #1418 had to be moved across the room because there wasn’t an accessible outlet nearby. The coffee tray was broken, with the rim lifting up and the bottom melted onto the wooden TV dresser. The dresser was scuffed and could use a fresh coat of paint or refinishing.

It’s a nice hotel except for heating problems throughout the hotel. The rooms get to cold or to hot because the auto temp doesn’t work depending on which room you stay. The hotel area in general is cold. The breakfast area has no heat at all so it’s too cold to enjoy eating. Fix the heating issues and it becomes a good quality hotel with an excellent lakeside location.

The room climate control wasn’t working upon arrival 1st nite so I was very cold. The next day the room still wasn’t repaired so they switched me to a room with proper heat. I mean I kinda feel like I should have been discounted on the price for that but nope. I wasn’t in the mood to argue it so I just paid and left after my stay was over. On the bright side the hotel location on the lakeside is beautiful. The rooms are old but clean and the beds are super comfy. The buffet breakfast is actually very good but get there early when the food is nice and fresh.

The room Air Conditioning unit was so loud, sounded like an airplane engine. Awful. I turned it off and the room got to hot so spent my nights turning the unit on and off. Got absolutely no sleep for 2 nights. Will not go back. We told front desk and they said “nothing “.

The staff is what will bring us back here when we come back to the area again. Breakfast was ok but it was included so cant complain about it too much. Wish there were more options. Location was great to all the great places to eat and play. And still close enough to Asheville to enjoy what the city has to offer.

This property was a nice surprise to us. We had a really bad stay at another inn in Maggie Valley, so the staff at Lake Junaluska got very upset and soaking wet guests dumped on them late at night. The Front Desk staff at Lake Junaluska was great, They got us in a upper floor Lake view room and had extra towels delivered then called to make sure we were fine throughout our stay. The entire complex made us feel safe and well taken care of. Would highly recommend staying The Terrace at Lake Junaluska. Rooms are great, staff is great and surroundings are beautiful.

Could be much better. We were told room had a safe. No safe. We were told someone would come to the room to check it out. No one came. We were told no room cleaning but towels would be picked up if we left used towels in hall. 3 nights passed and no one ever came by. We went to front desk to get towels. They didn’t have any. What?! Came back later and they had some. Hated to write that because the building is new and in a great location. Such a huge investment in that yet seemed to be lacking so clearly on some basic service points. Lots of room for improvement. Step it up team!

Great Lake views in a peaceful setting

We arrived on Friday night for a funeral in the chapel mid-day on Saturday. Since we met extended family there, we were delighted with the beautiful lobby area with a fireplace and comfortable furniture. The person who checked was in and out was outstanding - efficient and friendly. The room had a view of the mountains and lake. The king bed was very comfortable. The pillow choices were limited. The linens were very good. The breakfast was a bit better than traditional hot breakfast buffets. The staff member was eager to please the guests. My only disappointment was the coffee. It was weak and tasteless. The bathroom was dated but clean. I would reconsider this hotel to anyone visiting Lake Junaluska. I would strongly recommend clear signage to the hotel and parking. Trying to navigate that in the dark was frustrating and could have been dangerous.

Beautiful location. Thin walls, apathetic service, subpar food on buffet. Second time staying here, NOT as good as previous stay. Disappointed.

The staff was wonderful, rooms were clean and breakfast was like a real hot breakfast should be with a buffet and beautiful lake views from the dining hall. Highly recommend this special stop!

Lake Junalaska is a hidden gem. Restaurant offerings are average in quality and limited to a minimal choice buffet. Breakfast is fine, but lunch or dinner is certainly sub par.

Lovely location, very awkward trying to get from parking area into hotel without navigating a very steep, wet driveway or using a circuitous route to an unmarked side entrance. Very disconcerting, especially for seniors and families. Breakfast was available, but what we tried was not good - powdered, cold eggs; very thick cold grits; gummy oatmeal; extremely stale, hard grocery store bagels with warm whipped cream cheese. Bacon was good.

The place is located in a safe Neiborhood. It is quite and beautiful. The accommodations are nice with comfortable beds and a nice dining hall with a great breakfast. I would go back there again.
