Holiday Inn Express Nags Head Oceanfront by IHG

Dear Holiday Beach Team, I recently had the pleasure of staying at your hotel, and I wanted to share my feedback. Overall, I truly enjoyed my stay! The facility was impressively clean, and the location was incredibly convenient for my plans. I appreciated the complimentary breakfast, which offered a great start to my day. The staff were friendly and professional, making me feel welcomed throughout my visit. I also enjoyed the onsite indoor pool, which was well-maintained and a delightful addition to my stay. The only point I would mention for awareness is the elevator situation. With the hotel being five stories and only one elevator, I found that during peak times, it could require some patience to wait for it. Indoor pool was small, but beach was steps away! Hot breakfast was awesome- coffee was great! Staff was so nice and friendly! Room was clean and shower worked great!

The hotel location is great, right next to the beach. The staff were very nice and accommodating. Breakfast was good, although some vegetables would have been nice to have (it was mostly eggs, pastries, cereals and dairy). The big problem was that some mornings there wasn't enough room to sit for all guests. The breakfast room is really small and unable to accommodate all guests. The indoor pool was nice, but it felt like it wasn't cleaned every day. The rinse-off area when coming from the beach, which is right under the pool, was not cleaned frequently. And it would be nice to have something in the rooms with no balcony to dry wet clothes or towels.

Room was clean, staff was friendly, and location right off beach was great. Also outside showers were convenient

I love this Holiday Inn Express! We stayed 4-nights over the 4th of July weekend. The location is great, the beach is great due to a bit of isolation from highly crowded areas and wide! The room is very comfortable and breakfast was great! The staff during breakfast were great, for the most part. There was a nice lady who was amazing but I didn’t catch her name—she was so helpful! The AC in the room was a bit loud, but I like some background noise. Some little fixes here and there are needed, but that’s expected being beachfront. What would make this a 5 star rating would be an outdoor pool. There’s a grassy, open area that would be perfect for an outdoor pool and chairs for lounging. They do have an indoor pool, but it’s very small. It was really windy for a day or two on the beach, so an outdoor pool would have been perfect. The outdoor terrace was nice after taking a dip in pool. All in all, it was a really good trip! I love this hotel! Add an outdoor pool and it would be perfect!

Washer and dryer are available & free. Breakfast is excellent.

Good location in Nags Head. Close to attractions we were interested in and the hot breakfast buffet was fantastic! The spread was amazing and they offered a variety of foods every morning. The hotel has covered parking and an indoor pool. It's also next to the beach. I also appreciated the coffee in the lobby that was available all day. The pool could have been cleaner. The days we stayed at the hotel, there was a storm passing through and we couldn't swim in the ocean. The pool looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a while. There was also a stain on a chair that was in the room. Apart from that, we had no issues. We would probably choose this hotel again.

Little things they thought of…Dove shampoo, conditioner and body wash dispensers in the walk-in shower. The coffee table too extended up as a desk. Two roller foot stools. Very clean. Only issue was 1 of the 2 elevators did not work so it took awhile to get one

Construction caused multiple problems including very limited breakfast due to construction that closed the dining room. There were many barricades driving to the hotel with a total lack of direction for guests. I had to navigate around heavy equipment with very little room to spare. The staff was unconcerned.

It was a short stay, clean room, easy beach access, & staff was very nice.

Room was musty

We had no hot water in the bathroom. It was lukewarm at best. Also, there was sand on the bathroom floor. This was there when we checked in so it wasn’t from us. Elevators are super slow

Carpet in room was filthy.

Hotel is on beach...hotel exterior needs updated as well as lobby...trash always full in lobby...as well as trash outsode alomg fence....hotel.has a shower to wash off sand from toys and feet which was nice...actually had a good breakfast....

We enjoyed our stay. The hotel is older but has been updated to meet Holiday Inn standards. Room was clean and comfortable. Biggest con was the chairs on balcony are not tall enough to see over banister. It Blocks your entire ocean front view. For the extra room price to be oceanfront they need to invest a small amount in taller chairs. The location on Nags Head is great and the hotel is just a few steps from the ocean. Very good continental breakfast and dining area.

Great stay. Right on the beach. Clean Hotel and good breakfast. Only issue that i had was my AC was loud in room 312. I've stayed there several times..never had that issue with the other rooms

I paid for oceanfront was on second floor and couldn’t see the ocean big heel in the way paid extra for that and didn’t even see the ocean

From my experience, most oceanfront hotels that are anything close to affordable, are usually worn down by the sun, the sand, the salty sea air, and the nonstop hordes of people who pass through these properties. The good news is that this one seemed only mildly tired as of September 2025. The location worked well for us. Right on the beach and centrally located so we were able to visit both the northern and southern areas of the Outer Banks. The first night there we woke up at 1:30 AM in a room that was 80 degrees and getting warmer by the minute as the malfunctioning air-conditioning was putting out hot air. Lou, the night clerk on duty, was quick to find us another room that was dune view rather than ocean view, and we were compensated for the difference in price. The new room was on the 3rd rather than the 4th floor. Be advised that you can actually see the ocean on either of these floors, but you will need to stand up to do so. Sitting in the chairs on the balcony puts the railing directly in your line of vision. Breakfast was slightly above average imo, due to the fact that each day featured warm cinnamon rolls, biscuits, sausage and/or bacon. Over all, I would recommend the property. Thanks again to Lou the night clerk for saving our vacation!

My room was clean, the staff was friendly and the bed was comfortable. However, it was really windy outside so the balcony door constantly rattled. In the middle of the night, it sounded like someone was forcibly trying to open the door. I got very little sleep because of it. The latch that keeps the door closed needs to be a little longer on the short end so the door doesn't rattle back and forth.

It was a nice stay. Pretty much everything from the room to the free hot breakfast was what you would expect from HIE. There were only 2 things that detracted slightly. - 1) Checking in. The person at the front desk couldn't find a available room in the system. We were only there for 2 nights, and they floated the idea of having us in 1 room for 1 night, and then move us for the 2nd night. It took 3 people to figure out someone else had not closed out previous people correctly in the system. All of this only took about 15 at the most. Not a huge deal. 2) We got a ocean view room with a balcony. The balcony is only about 3 1/2 foot deep. When you sit in chairs the 4" wide railing is right at eye level. Me and my guest sat down at the same time, and laughed at the same time because of this. Remember to bring your sunglasses to the room so you have them in the morning to go out on the balcony. - the morning sun is very bright and direct.

I really liked the ocean view with balcony, the room was spacious and bed was comfortable. The only thing that was not good was the cable / tv, which the cable disconnected completely several times during our stay and the tv guide was weird being on 4 different random channels but couldn't select channel except manually putting in.

The ocean view was excellent except the chairs on the balcony were to low could not view the water while sitting.

It was nice but the holiday inn in kitty hawk was nicer... When we got there after we paid, they informed us that we had no Wi-Fi or tv but The price had gone up ..overall it was fine..the breakfast was extremely good

The room we were in was facing the street, and the window/sliding glass door would not close all the way, resulting in a lot of road noise and hot air coming in.

The property was average, the pier to the ocean was nice. Breakfast was average, plenty to choose from, the eggs were not so good, oatmeal was watery. The room itself was nicely sized, excellent view of the beach, AC was great. Needed cleaning from the beginning, floors mainly and the bathroom vent was clogged with dust. What the most challenging issues was with the front desk. We checked in on a Sunday, we booked for 4 nights initially through Expedia. (we did call and request an additional day after the initial booking) we were told over the phone we could get the same room for an additional night and to just take care of it when we got there. So when we checked in they were oblivious to the extra night request. They said they could get us into another room with a balcony for the additional night. Fine, we can do that. So fast forward to Thursday morning I received a call from the front desk to the room, stating we could actually stay in the original room, awesome!! So we went out to enjoy the day came back to being locked out of our room. We went downstairs in a horribly slow elevator only to be told to try again with new keys and nothing, 5 floors up and down again we went back up a 3rd time with the maintenance guy and we got in. Last issue is I was charged twice for the extra room. It’s since been refunded, but had to wait days and that money was reserved for the kennel, for our dog. Just unprofessional, and caused undo stress the night before leaving.

The hotel cleaning staff was over-the-top accommodating and friendly. The girl running the breakfast buffet was over-the-top accommodating and nice to be around very welcoming. We tried to check in just a couple hours early after a very long flight and drive and were told that they would contact us if that was available, but did not even have our proper phone number and then call us five minutes before check-in to tell us we could check in early. That was a little frustrating and did not set a good tone.

This hotel offered us an incredible experience during our stay that included a very nice, clean and modern room and areas, super nice customer service from beginning to end (a big shout out to Miss Asia and team during breakfast), very convenient location and easy access to the beach, no overcrowded at all, easy to park and relax. Very impressive. We will definitely come back. Please keep it up

Most hotels, not all allow you to check in early if the room is ready. We arrived around 1 for a 4pm check in. We left our phone number and went out. We arrived again at 3:30 pm, still weren't ready. We were told that the rooms needed to have an inspection by the room manger, prior to release. I asked how 2 rooms on 2 separate floors would be done at the exact same time (4). We were given the rooms will be ready at 4, all the while 3 other people/families checked in. At 3:58 we were told the rooms were ready, I commented that it was early and was told I could wait the two minutes then.

We had a pleasant check in with the kindest woman helping us. She was amazing and so eager to help. What a blessing!!

We traveled here for a family wedding during what turned out to be the peak of tropical storm Ophelia which made our stay all about the hotel. The staff was the most amazing, friendly and went above and beyond! I can’t think of the last time I’ve encountered such a great staff. Thank you for making our stay the best under the circumstances.

The check in staff was fantastic. We checked in at 9pm after a long drive and felt so welcomed. They were sweet and helpful everyday. The room and bathroom were clean and updated. The was a balcony overlooking the dunes. However our room was directly across from the breakfast room which has a glass wall looking into the hallway. When you opened our door people who are eating breakfast could see directly into our room. Also we were awakened by the breakfast room chairs scraping across the floor. The sound traveled right under the floor and into our room. In addition we were awakened at 6am by a fire alarm. The bacon being cooked in the kitchen caused the alarm to go off. We spent about 20 mins outside in the rain. The manager was not apologetic or comforting in any way after we came back in. The location of the hotel is fantastic. It is oceanfront with a beautiful beach. Overall I recommend staying here. We will be back!!

Holiday Inn Express - Nags Head was backed up right near the beach. My spouse and I loved that! The view was gorgeous, and the hotel is right off the "strip" where you could access all the restaurants, shopping, activities, and sights you would ever want to see. It was very convenient. The hotel staff was nice, the cleaning staff did a great job with the hotel room, and it was well-appointed. We have no complaints. My only concern is that there was no sign for the hotel on the main highway, or "the strip". It was difficult to see the hotel from the main road at night, since there weren\'t many street lights in that area, and for people unfamiliar with the area, it would\'ve been helpful to have a hotel sign on the strip that says to "Turn Here" to get to the hotel. Other than that, our stay was great!

This hotel is adjacent to the beach - very convenient for sunrise activities. It is also convenient to many restaurants, shopping, etc.

The hotel is on the beach. Beachside rooms are perfect to see the sunrise. The location is 20-30 mins drive away from almost all major attractions in the area.

Checkin was fine. Parking was adequate. Beach access was good although no way to get a wheelchair into the beach. Wheelchair access was attainable via deck that overlooked the beach, but none to actually access the beach. Breakfast bar was good and staff was friendly. The roadside rooms was noisy and could hear all traffic from Hwy 12 all night. Could hear loud voices from 4th floor down in parking lot. Kids were playing in the hallway at 2130 hrs, but when asked to stop they did. Overall it was ok, but ask for a room on the beach side and not the road side.

Perfect for beach access!

The room was great with lots of room. Breakfast options were fantastic. I have not been to a free breakfast that ever served biscuits, turkey sausage and sausage gravy. We hope to come back next year.

Very nice lobby and common areas. The breakfast was wonderful. There were options for a gluten free diet. The person serving breakfast was attentive to keep things hot and fresh. And was very nice. Room was clean and well stocked with fresh supplies.

Great hotel and was very affordable (we went during the off season). We had a dune view balcony but you could still sometimes see part of the water so that was a plus.
