HQ Bar & Restaurant

Everytging was great staff very helpfuj, food plenty and really good, only problem was you didnt state that i would be two doors away with two glights of stairs the reason I booked the Mereside was because I had stayed there before and i knew it had a lift im bad on my feet with arthritis of the knees so i struggled up and down the stairs but overalli once again enjoyed my stay at the hotel

Had a great stay here. The room was simple, but had a great shower. Food was great - I'm not normally a breakfast person, but thoroughly enjoyed the cooked breakfast each morning. They have a nice outdoor spot to sit in the sun as well. There's a motorcycle bay out on the prom in front, no trouble getting a spot though visited at a quiet time so YMMV. Short walk into the main town, well placed.

Frequent bus service means you can save money staying at this hotel, mid way between the steam and electric railways, but still enjoy everything the island has to offer. As others have said, walls are thin so bring ear plugs. Also bear in mind if you’re bringing suitcases that there are no lifts. Wonderful welcome and friendly staff.

The staff all go out of the way for you to enjoy your stay even to putting the heating on the last two nights as the temperature was a bit cooler. You will be very pleased with the facilities, comfy bed , nice clean facilities and a few mins walk from the town centre. I even enjoyed a sea view from my bedroom . Only drawback it is up a little hill not too far but if you have walking difficulties it takes it out of you a bit

The property is your typical Victorian BnB and only a block back from the Promenade. The staff were very polite and attentive and the included breakfast was good. The rooms are surprisingly spacious, although as is typical for buildings this old the walls and ceilings are pretty thin. If you're a light sleeper, you might want to bring earplugs. My only real complaint is that the Wi-Fi was a bit spotty, and tended to drop out randomly or just become very slow. Other than that, the hotel was very nice and I'd happily stay here again.

Large room with big windows. Windows were curtained by very thin curtains so it never got dark in room. Despite opening the windows, it was very hot. The wifi was intermittent. There was a step from the bed to the bathroom which was dangerous at night. My room was in a separate house to the hotel reception. The lock on the door to the house was described as dodgy so I was advised to wedge it open. The landing was smelly and uneven. The carpet was very old.

Fabulous accomodation reccomend anyonecto stay here comfort level 10 breakfast out of this world 10 So enjoyed staying at rosslyn fantastic facilities showers good and fresh towels everyday all the staff courteous kind and polite and friendly . I only have one glitch the stairs are steep and was not offered help with cases to get to the room.!! However my stay was fantastic overall 10.

We stayed in this self-catering flat during a recent short break on the island. The location is very good, quiet area just off the seafront, free parking. Flat also had communal lounge. The bedrooms and bathrooms were very good and appointed to a good standard. A few issues spoiled our stay: first of all, this is a basement flat and has only one decent window in the kitchen/lounge, also when we arrived there was a slight smell of smoke and the heating was full on (despite it being a warm spell in August) and I had to get reception to come and tell me where the thermostat was so that I could lower it (this could have been avoided if an information card had been available). The fridge also leaked water but I managed to fix this by temporarily defrosting it (a huge mass of ice had formed on the interior back panel). Sofa was also badly sagging (not like the picture) and requires replacement. Finally, there was no mobile signal and the free wi-fi constantly disconnected. None of these problems spoiled our stay, but management should ensure that they are dealt with before guests arrive.

Cleaning wasn't great. Bin wasn't emptied after previous occupants and was only emptied two days after we told staff. Bar and food was good.

We stayed in basement apartment three bed fully fitted kitchen two bathrooms clean what more can you ask . Apart from the weather we went for the Manx gp saw one race complete wash out

We booked to stay in HQ hotel but on arrival were told we weren't staying there but in a guest house 30 yards down the road, the Glen Mona. There is no mention of this in expedia's listing, not good. We were in an attic room up 6 flights of stairs. Owner did say we ciuld.swap later in the week but didn't want to waste a day packing and unpacking so stayed there. Room was very basic, sloping ceiling, small, hot with leaky kettle on such a narrow shelf it was dangerous. En suite was tiny. Shower was awful, water becoming scalding without warning. Tiny sink with rotating taps that at times both had hot.water. Towels were rarely changed, cups rarely cleaned. I had take toilet rolls out of the residents lounge toilets because they were not replaced. I had to clean the toilet myself, it was awful. Found an in cistern blue block in residents lounge which helped a bit. Breakfast was in HQ, which was where we were supposed to be. It was fine, full english either in buffet or to order. Changed randomly. 2 mystery cereals on bar, tasteless yogurt, tangerines and a toaster. Nice room and service was good. Would not recommend at all, good position just off front but so many better options. The Isle.of Man is fantastic, had great weather so barely spent any time in room so stuck with it. Do visit, but not this hotel.

Best place I’ve stayed on the Isle of Mann. Room was well maintained, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was 1st class, good quality and very welcoming. Staff were excellent from check in, to the bar staff and breakfast staff all couldn’t do enough for you. We shall be booking for next years visit.

Fantastic location, the place itself was incredible. The kitchen/living room was huge, very spacious, big windows so lots of light and very well equipped. Private and out of the way. Bedrooms and bathrooms were an excellent size, well equipped, and very clean. Beds very very comfortable. The area was very quiet, convenient (bus stop nearby, trains within walking distance, shop within walking distance although a hill to get there but that didn't bother us at all). The apartment we stayed in was downstairs which was perfect for us as it was quiet and out of the way. The only downside was the dishwasher was full of dirty dishes when we arrived (and couldn't find cups to make tea!) but this was easily resolved by turning on the dishwasher and the rest of the apartment was spotless so can't really complain.

One of the worst stays I’ve ever been too A battle from the start to get the basics, ie heating, bath mat, fridge to keep my insulin, cleaning done. It was meant to be a family room to sleep 6 max was actually 5 at a push. Shower head needs sorting, toilet required bleach or something to clean months of buildup of lime scale in the bottom, towels always changed but bathroom never cleaned throughout. Breakfast was very very basic, in need of upgrade it was so bad ended up going to another place to have breakfast & evening meal. Paying over £1100 for 8 days stay I expected much more than we got, it rated 4 stars but really be -1.

We stayed in the family suite with 2 twins and one king bed. Very beautiful room with high ceilings and large bathroom. Great for our family of 3 adults. Location was fantastic and a quick walk to the main road, nice walk to shops and restaurants. The hotel has a very nice bar and restaurant. We had a great breakfast every morning. The chef and hostesses were very accommodating and pleasant to talk with. We were able to get into our room early as we arrived on a very early flight. We really appreciated the ability to check in early, since the room was ready. We loved our location and would highly recommend.

We didn't have a car so didn't need parking options. Staff were friendly and helpful. Family room was lovely and big.

Enjoyable 2 night stay though the hotel room was noisy, music from the bar could be heard until late at night and the walls are rather thin. Still, got for what I required and good value.

In many ways I liked my stay, I found my room very cosy. Good layout of the room, bathroom perfect, good water pressure. It was on the 3.5th level, no lift, but that was fine by me. The walls are paper thin, so it is essential to bring an earplug. The English breakfast was excellent if that is the type of food you are going for.

Food in the restaurant is very poor and way overpriced. Avoid the meatballs in "10 hour tomato sauce". Presumably the leftover plum tomatoes for breakfast. Lazy staff at Breakfast, no coffee or juices being refilled. I asked a lady if nobody was thirsty today, as she'd stood by the empty jugs for 20 mins, browsing on her phone. Had to beg for a knife and fork, to which I got a huff and a kevin the teenager reaction. No glass on my table, so even if there were liquids on offer, I'd presumably have to use my hands to drink them! They didn't bother replacing the bacon either, once it had gone. Gave up and went to my room. Nice decor and room itself was good.

I had a very enjoyable stay. All employees were very nice, helpful, and polite. I would definitely stay there again, and recommend this as a place to visit and stay.

We stayed at HQ Bar and Restaurant for one night during the Isle of Man TT and had a fantastic experience. We arrived early and the staff kindly let us drop off our bags in the restaurant and even gave us our room key so we could check in later without any hassle. The hotel is charming and cozy, with an incredibly kind and welcoming team. Everyone we met was polite, helpful, and happy to answer all our questions. The on-site restaurant was excellent — we walked along the beach looking for dinner but ended up coming back and were so glad we did. The food was great, and the bar had a nice, relaxed vibe. Breakfast the next morning was a buffet-style English breakfast served until 9:30, and it was just what we needed. Our room was clean, quiet, and very comfortable. When it was time to leave, the staff helped us arrange a taxi, which made things super easy. Overall, it was a lovely stay and a perfect base for experiencing the TT. Highly recommended!

Arrived on early flight, dropped luggage off at 10am and asked if possible would the room be available any earlier than 3pm. Unfortunately the property identified a need to pay on arrival despite my previous payment for the stay. Resolving the situation prolonged and complicated the checking in process.

If you’re going to the TT this is the perfect location. It’s a short walk to the TT village, a short walk to the beach and promenade. Ash, B, Dara, and Phil (as well of the rest of the crew that we didn’t meet personally) took amazing care of us, making our stay a wonderful experience. We had a 3-year-old with us and they were accommodating to her as well. Great time, great people and great property.

Woken very early by trades people on the street outside. Parking which i know is not the hotels fault but had to leave our van way down the prom. Otherwise breakfast 5 star the rest excellent.

Really reasonably priced hotel that is easily accessible from the ferry terminal. Rooms spacious and comfortable. Friendly staff. Great breakfast.

We stayed with friends for the weekemd of darts. The breakfast was a good choice. Food in hotel was also good choice.

The HQ restaurant was exceptional. They had a special TT menu, and I can tell you it was prepared with Michelin style attention The staff made our stay really great, with a special acknowledgment to Phil and the Chef The hotel was historic, and historically old. But still grateful for the stay while at TT.

I arrived to find out that I was not in the building shown in the profile for this hotel, but down the hill. I was told that the only dinner available that night was a £41 Italian tasting menu - not really what I wanted & more than I wanted to spend. Was also told that the restaurant does not do food on Monday or Tuesday...the breakfast was included in my stay (or maybe it wasn't?) - this was not clear & probably should be more clear on here. The hotel could have sent me an email warning me of these changes (others have in the past). I walked down the hill to the other building that housed my room. The stairs up to my room, up two flights of narrow, steep stairs, could be an issue for some. The room seemed smaller than the hotel's pics on here, but the bed was comfortable (a plus). The TV, pretty tiny & old, was fine; especially since I was in Douglas to be out & about. I went out to pick up drinks & take out. I came back, ate my take out, & looked over the hotel guest book. The books says, on the 2nd page, they "request" that no take out food be brought into the guest house. Oops... This is not mentioned on here as well. I never have stayed at a hotel that didn't allow me to bring outside food to my room; especially on a night when the hotel was only serving a specialized, expensive menu. The worst of it, I went to shower in the AM & a LARGE spider appeared in the shower (UGH!) along with cobwebs on the outside. Perhaps it was just a bad weekend.

2nd time staying here. Good value for money for bed and breakfast. Rooms are clean, comfortable and serviceable. Evening meal also now available in the restaurant below. Themed menus of different cuisines from around the world, food was excellent quality.
