Great little hotel, very Kool look inside, 7/11 downstairs, PT just outside

The hotel is close to the subway/train station and only a few minutes from the Kyoto station, which is very convenient. The rooms are pretty small, so it is not easy to accommodate luggage, but if you travel light, it should be okay. Maybe, because of the small rooms, they have a nice lobby area where you can sit and relax and maybe eat all the snacks from the 7-11 located just on the first floor of the building. They offer a microwave, toaster and water fountains, as well free coffee and tea. We used the washer and dryer, and it was very practical because you can even pay from an app on your phone.

The room and the hotel were very clean. The hotel is located about 25 minutes was from the Tokyo train station, great location! The room we booked, had two beds and were on a little platform which gave us a little more room to store our bags and luggages under the beds. The room was a little bigger compare to the standard Japanese room. There is a small refrigerator in the room. The complimentary breakfast consist on free coffee, tea and 2 différents types of pastries. You can seat on the patio outside or in the main area inside. They offer a very safe automated luggage service. I traveled with my Mother and we really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Tavinos. There is a 7 eleven attached to the hotel, a grocery store located in front of the hotel and many restaurants near by.

The place was very clean and convenient. 7/11 on the 1st floor before you enter the hotel. Complimentary coffee and pastries in the lobby at 6:30am to 10:30am. They also have onsite laundry and dryers. But they are rather small if you are travel with more than 2.

Excellent little room with what you need. Location is prime - could literally get to all the good spots In Kyoto easily. And 7-11 attached. Nice lobby and pastry breakfast is a nice touch!

Room was a bit larger for Japanese standard but no fridge. Shower was amazing! Check in was automated which was neat. 7-11 in the building for ease. Bus stop and train very close. Commons room very neat with kitchen and games and had outdoor patio that was amazing. Breakfast breads were tasty. Decor was cute as well.

Really cool self service luggage storage system, the whole hotel is designed to be as self service as possible but still have staff on hand if needed. Be warned this hotel is located on a busy junction so not for light sleepers unless you're exhausted. There was a lot of road noise through the night plus road works, I don't usually have issue with noise but I struggled to sleep and had to put earplugs in.

The room was a major disappointment. The entire decor followed a black theme, which made the space feel even darker and more closed in. There was very little lighting, and the window was completely blocked by heavy curtains, preventing any natural light from coming in. Even with every light turned on, the room remained dim and uninviting—definitely not a relaxing atmosphere. To make matters worse, the room was not clean. Dust was visible on the furniture, corners, and even on some of the bedding. It clearly hadn’t been properly cleaned before our arrival. Between the gloomy lighting and the lack of cleanliness, the stay felt more uncomfortable than restful.

Easy accessible for local parks and shopping. My only issue is how dark the rooms are. Especially leaving the hotel and stepping outside it is almost blinding. Also makes it difficult to get ready in the mornings. Especially for those who wear makeup. The room was almost clean, but it was quite dusty in areas and the toilet wasn’t very clean when we arrived.

We could hear every car in the street, everyone who walked by our room and the elevator pinning for our and the floors above and below. While the room was tidy, it was also dusty. The was no tea or coffee in the room and you had to go to the public hangout area if you wanted one.

Wonderful place to stay! The room is small but just enough. Bathroom is impeccably clean, which is always my first check. Upstairs lounge is so cute and quiet and clean. We loved our stay and will definitely be coming back!

The graphic manga images on the website suckered me in. This place is one step above a hostel. Heavily stained rug in our room, pillows that seemed to be filled with hay, the duvet cover not able to close around a stained comforter, the common areas are in need of repair and the drink dispensers are filthy. The best part about the hotel is the location. Walking distance to the river and goon district.

This hotel was ok. The window glass in my room was dusty and also the overflow in the bathroom sink was black of dirt. Just thinking for what they charge per night, they should do a more thorough cleaning. Also the rooms are quite hot so you may need to run the air conditioning during the day if you pop by from your daily activities.

The hotel has a great location. The employees was kind and they have complementary drinks all day. But the cleanliness of the facilities is a very different matter. Everything from the windows to the glass bathroom doors was dirty. The sheets and blankets were dirty (I think they only made the bed, not changed or cleaned it), and the room was dusty. There were stains on the carpets. The bathroom floor was also dirty. Being eco-friendly is no excuse for not cleaning the rooms properly.

My boyfriend and his sister had asthma issues due to the amount of dust in the rooms. Easily the dirtiest hotel I've ever experienced. We requested a humidifier and the front desk gave us one with mold inside. We asked for extra pillows and the front desk told us there were no extras available.

We have a family of 5 so it was difficult to find a place for all of us especially in Japan. The rooms are usually very tight but the connecting room that we had was perfect for us. We had a bathroom for each room. The rooms were very clean but a little dark in terms of lighting. Very cute decor so the kids loved it. Best part was complimentary coffee, tea, hot water in the lounge. The kids loved the free breakfast bread downstairs and connecting 7-11 was their daily breakfast. Staff was very polite and helped with fancy luggage storage unit .

Don’t do it. Bed was hard and pillows were worse. Had to go out to buy a pillow to be able to rest. You will be tired after going out to explore Kyoto all day. Would recommend spending a bit more for a better place to stay at. Will not stay here again.

Pros: Liked the theme of the hotel. Lounge space and clown machines were cool. Walkable distances from delicious restaurants and the Nishiki Market. Luggage space under the bed is handy since the room is very small. Washing clothes was 100¥ cheaper than other hotels I've been to. Cons: Found the dark walls to be dreary after a while. Carpet had stains. Bathroom reminded me of a porta potty. If you don't sleep on the floor at home I wouldn't recommend staying here since the beds are futons so mattress and pillows are flat. Room is not accommodating for big people.

Overall not a bad stay but rooms are dark and a bit dusty

The lounge was very nice. The staff was friendly. The rooms were extremely small with small storage and no shelves or desk or anything at all. Just a small cubby at the end of the bed. And the bathroom? Worse. One small shelf above the sink and a smaller one under the sink. My husband and I had nowhere to put anything. It may be good for one person per room, but that’s it. On top of this, the washer and dryers did not work well. My clothes came out still wet after extending the drying twice. And they smelled bad afterwards. On top of that, they’re small, and there was constantly someone waiting to do laundry.

Room was large. No coat hooks which is odd. Dark room, needs more lights especially near the only full length mirror on the toilet door. only bathroom mirror is useable. The TV is also tiny and lacks ability to cast which after a long day walking everywhere you might want to come back and just relax before snoozing. The road noise was horrendous, I'd equate it to having your windows wide open and staying in the middle of a nascar track. Motor bikes revving all night long and could even hear the pedestrian crossings beeping. The staff were friendly and this hotel is like 15mins walk from Kyoto station a d has a 7-11 underneath as well as several nice restaurant 5mins walk. If you are a light sleeper I'd avoid otherwise go for it.

Close to main shopping areas and very clean! Only downside was the room was extremely dark even with every light on.

Nice and trendy with an amazing price. Location is great for bus rides to sight seeing locations. Shops and malls are less than a mile around. The lack of staff and customer interaction was the only thing I wish was better. We have been to two other hotels on this Japan trip. This was the only hotel that did not know who to transfer luggage from hotel to hotel.

Great location, walkable to nearby subway stations. Modern, compact rooms. Staff were so kind and helpful. Would definitely stay here again!

Great spot just a 20 minute walk from Shijo Kawaramachi! The room was comfortable and clean and the staff were very nice.

Front desk staff are cold not that willing to help. Beds are not comfortable, you have no access from the sides of beds. Room is very small and dim. Room is not quiet and you can hear traffic throughout night.

I stayed at Tavinos Hotel during my solo trip to Kyoto and overall had a great experience. The location is spectacular — well-positioned between key tourist attractions and within walking distance to several must-see spots. There’s also a bus stop literally right outside the hotel that connects you to the main bus lines, which made getting around incredibly easy. The added bonus of a 7/11 right next door was super convenient for snacks and essentials. One of the standout features was the ability to choose your own room — including floor level and whether you preferred a quieter space or one with a view. This is something I’ve never been offered before and really appreciated. The staff were exceptional — consistently kind, patient, and helpful. Some spoke great English, others still put in genuine effort to make sure I was understood and supported. I also loved the quirky and unique style of the hotel; it gives off a social, vibrant vibe, especially on the third floor which feels like a hub for fellow travellers. For those interested in meeting others or being close to the energy of the city, it’s a great fit. That said, I did notice some cleanliness issues during my stay. There were several questionable stains on the carpet in both the hallway and my room (I was on the 5th floor), which made me feel a bit uneasy. Additionally, my bedding had a slightly musty smell to it, as if it hadn’t been freshly washed unfortunately. Despite those cons, I would still recommend.

Really good staff

Hotel is well located. However, we had issues at the property due to the laundry. There are not enough washing/dryer machines and at night it gets really crowded and it’s very chaotic. Guest arguing to use the laundry service and the management is not trained to deal with these situations. It happened to us all the night that we stayed there. It was very uncomfortable. Plus, I got the impression that the staff tried to deal with the guest as less as possible.

Great location as it's walking distance (12 minutes adult walking) from Nishiki market and 20 minutes walk from Kyoto station. But there is a bus stop right in front of the hotel that makes Kyoto station a 8 minutes distance and 3 minutes walk from the train. The staff were super polite and helpful. The rooms are a great touch and experience and there is a lot places where to eat very close.

Good location which is central. However sites are a bit of a walk or require transit. Wish it was located in Gion. Distance from subway line which is connected to Kyoto Station is a 10 minute walk.

Nice quiet hotel with cheap eat option across the road and convenient bus stop right outside and across the road that takes you into Kyoto Station.

Overall we enjoyed our stay. The only things we would reccomend are a better selection for breakfast, the surrounding can get noisy at times, and the rooms could use better lighting.

The hotel is super convenient and it’s perfect if you’re looking for a place to just sleep after a long day exploring Kyoto! It’s basically a bed and a shower and the daily amenities are collected every day from the lobby area. There’s free drinks and a baked good for free every morning. And there’s a 7 eleven connected to the hotel which is GREAT for late night snacks or breakfast. It also offers luggage forwarding which is super convenient when moving cities. It’s a unique design and very playful and a central location to all our destinations. If you’re looking for a simple place to sleep and get going through out your day, this is the place!

Really loved this quirky and fun hotel. Rooms are somewhat small, but the design makes the most of them. Showers are spacious and an experience in themselves. All amenities are provided, except for tissues. The breakfast offered is really a coffee and pastry. Otherwise, a 10/10.
