Royal Exeter Hotel

Room was freezing and had no hot water. Took 2 hours to get a heater and still no hot water until the morning. Loud music vibrating through the room until 4am. Finally managed to get hot water at 7am and only got offered a complimentary breakfast

What a joke. Tired rooms. Lying management and staff. Thumping loud music that shakes the windows, doors and to until 4am. When we complained, reception said that they send an email out to bookers saying about the loud music. We received no email. Reception lied when we checked in to say there was live music playing in the bar until 1. It was a a nightclub playing distorted music until 4am. Why would anyone pay to stay in a room where you can’t sleep because of incredibly loud music below shaking the room. Bed and room was tired. Bath was discoloured. Tiles mouldy. It was a complete joke compounded by some of the poorest customer service I’ve experienced.

Lovely hotel right close to the sea front. Fridays and Saturdays can be noisy due to the nightclub. We would go back but would avoid the weekend!.

Nice little stay, hotel was lovely. Rooms were really Good and spacious, breakfast was good. Only issue is the nightclub right on the side of the property. Which was very loud until late, otherwise a lovely Stay, can’t fault the place.

Stay the room on 1st Floor at the front . The night club 1812 on the ground floor . Heard the music and people chatting through the window under 3am Saturday. Ready prepared the Earplugs.

It was nice to have secure parking and the cleanliness was very nice. It looks like it had nice bars but as I was working, I did not try them.

Check in was great. Very friendly guy on reception. Very impressed at the downstairs of the hotel and bar area. Rooms are a bit tired. Very loud from the nightclub until about 3am (and we were on the 3rd floor!) Not sure that much bass is really needed! Maybe I’m just getting old!

have a drink in 1812 bar , nice place. have a dinner in Oishii sushi bar, food is good.

So very cheaply priced. Building getting tired and rooms in need of decoration but were spotlessly clean. All staff were friendly and helpful. Bar / club area was exceptional. Breakfast great quality too Amazing value for Bournemouth. We will use again Perfect location too , easy secure car parking

Hotel has def improved from my last stay several years ago. Room was clean and well maintained, service friendly, and good breakfast. Great central location also.

I stayed from Sunday to Tuesday and the hotel was silent! I did start thinking I may have been the only one there! The room was very clean and had everything I needed. Being by the coast, it does get really cold at night which I'm not used to being from London so Tanya, the receptionist, kindly provided me with a portable heater as the radiators in the rooms were on a timer and did not switch on. I loved the décor of the hotel, it's absolutely beautiful, the wood against the red really works making it look very luxurious! The only thing that I feel is a major concern is how creaky the floors are!! Not just in the rooms but in the corridors, I'm guessing when the hotel is full, this could be an issue for people staying there. Overall, I had a really nice stay. The hotel is in a really convenient place being a few minutes walk from the beach and pier, and across the road is the BIC which I know they have music concerts there. Tanya the receptionist was very polite, welcoming and always had a smile on her face! She gave me all the information I needed about my stay and did not hesitate to help if I needed anything. She truly is a valuable member of staff. I had the breakfast on one of my mornings there and it was delicious so I would say take this option with your booking! I would definitely recommend staying at this hotel. I would be booking again without a doubt.

The hotel common areas were immaculate and looked to a high standard. Only issue was a leak over the stair case which was unfortunate but sign posted so not much more they could do. The room was extremely tired. The bathroom was clean but mould in places as it needed updating. Smelt of old cigarette smoke in the room which wasn’t nice, we were there for 2 nights, I wouldn’t have stayed any longer than that. Staff were all super friendly and a credit to the hotel, just a shame the room let the hotel done.

Impressive when we turned up, but as we went upstairs and down the multiple corridors there was signs and odours of damp problems. The room was dated and also had damp issues, there was a dehumidifier in the corner which said it all. Luckily we were staying in the summer I couldn’t imagine this being very nice in the winter months

Clean, convenient

The property is very conveniently located. It is in a historic building – built in 1812 – but I don’t think of the property has been maintained since then! Damp patches all over the ceilings, electrical sockets hanging out of the wall, the bathroom door had a hole completely through it. There are very lively clubs beneath it, which are quite noisy, but we knew this and were okay with it. It is really the condition of the bedrooms that let the place down.

I’ve stayed at the hotel many times over the year. It’s in need of a massive refurb. Weather was cold but old sash windows let too much cold in, shower was horrendous. It’s a great location but sadly needs a makeover, with that said, you get what you pay for.

Lovely hotel in a period building, friendly staff, spacious room and comfortable bed. My only criticism is the shower. The head was fixed so could not rinse out the bath and also whenever we took a shower the shower curtain wrapped round you as it was flimsy material, seemed unhygienic as it would have done it to everyone who stayed there and doubt it is cleaned/disinfected as the shower head is not removable to wash it down.

Good for the price but the room was cold - colder than the corridor outside the room!

The single room was spacious but was very cold. The windows were old and draughty. The heating went off in the night!

Stayed in room 308 bathroom was dated ceiling needs so work to repair it window in main rokm in poor condition. Tv signal was poor lots of interference. Breakfast was really good and service great

Negatives …..Our room had a large crack in the ceiling above the bed, where they have had a massive leak, it looked like it was going to fall in on us at any moment !! Bath had a chip in it, bathroom lights only 1 working out of 4 and shower was just lukewarm even on hottest setting . Positives …. Lovely breakfast and staff, great location.

Arrived to find the car park was full. Completely disinterested reception staff advised me it’s ’first come, first served’ just what I wanted to hear after a 5 hour drive. No sympathy, just ‘you can park next door, they are cheaper’ next door was a car park on a rocky bit of land with a steep uphill climb. If you have mobility issues, this is not the place for you. Room was fine, shower pressure was not, at least the water was warm. Fun fact, my room was 54 yards from the nearest nightclub (according to Google) which played music until 5 am Saturday morning and 4am Sunday morning. Breakfast was fine, overall experience was fine, apart from the car park and loud music. Would not recommend if you’re looking for a good nights sleep

Very dated hotel. Rooms were ok but dated and the bathroom had a strange smell, reminded me of a hospital. The bar is weird, again very dated but feels more like a strip club than a hotel bar. The staff were fine but the night receptionist was a bit clueless.

I was on a solo trip and this hotel was perfect for my needs. Location was brilliant turn left for the beach, turn right for the town and restaurants. The breakfast was freshly cooked in the beautiful bar area. Reception staff were very helpful and made my stay so good.

The noise levels have I creased massively since my last stay. My original room and major issues with the water and electricity. The restaurant and 1812 bar staff were brilliant. The "manager" was not helpful and by the end of may stay; wouldn't even look me in the eye. My first room had drainage and electrical issues and my second room had problems too. WiFi works ok on floor two but not very well at the crack of dawn. Breakfast was good and came without any fuss

A lovely, well situated hotel with very friendly staff with a well stocked bar at a reasonable price. Breakfast was very tasty and plenty of it. We had an issue with a wall heater not working and within 5 minutes of phoning reception a replacement heater was sent up. We were there for a Friday & Saturday night so there was live music followed by a DJ both nights. As we were on the top floor we could just about hear the beat but it wasn’t loud enough to disturb us. If I’m back in Bournemouth for another concert than I’ll definitely be looking to stay at this hotel again. Please note that they charge £8 per night for car parking though.

While I am doing reservation I asked them for possible upgrade according to availability however their answer as below; Good evening, Your booking is for a single room with a single bed. You can update your room from expedia portal with extra cost. If you are that strict as an hotelier you should refund the fee that I have paid you last night cause of heating issue in your propert in room number 210 ! I have asked your colleague who works at evening shift around 6-7 PM he told me that he will sort out. When I came back lately I asked your another colleague he assist me kindly and provide me a Mini radiator which I assumed room will be hot enough with 2 radiator (other one I found in the room) Even your staff was shocked like how it might be cold that much ! At the end room never get hot enough it was around 10-15 C and when I woke up in the morning my voice was like a monster. Ladies should have heard it at the reception early morning. Staff were extremely welcoming and helpful during our stay. Room felt a bit dated although we had a very big room with a comfortable bed. Bathroom could do with a curtain rather than a net curtain as when you have the light on at night you feel overlooked by neighbouring properties. Breakfast was delicious with a good choice and decent size. Parking was good and secure. Overall we had a great stay and would definitely return.

It was ideal for the BIC we were able to just cross over the road from the hotel to see Gary Barlow at the Bic .Lively music on the Friday in the hotel and next door if you want a quiet hotel its not for you, but if you want to dance the night away you can!

Very convenient for beach, shops and gardens. Gates on the car park, our room was fairly quiet and nice, although a bit dated, shower wasn’t very good. Breakfast was cooked as required and it was lovely 😊 Staff were very helpful. We would stay there again 😁

Ideal place to stay in Bournemouth for the sea front, conference centre, and theatre at a very fair price. Car park is not huge, so get there early to get a spot.

I stayed here for one night returning from Cornwall. It proved to be a good location & Reception staff were really helpful with a quick check in & my early morning departure.

location fantastic. 2 mins from the beach and on-site parking a real bonus. Freshly cooked breakfast to order was wonderful. Yes it was above the nightclub but we stayed Thursday to Friday so it didn’t affect us. The hotel description is clear about noise at the weekend so no surprises or reason to complain. I would gladly stay here again midweek.

Clean and comfortable rooms. Breakfast was served in the lounge-bar area, it wasn’t buffet but you could order anything from the menu. Came for a concert at the International Centre which is literally across the street, so it was a perfect location. Also 10 min walk from the beach. Very recommended! Thank you :)

This hotel is right in the centre of Bournemouth convenient for just about everything. It could maybe do with a bit of TLC in places but its a good hotel with friendly and efficient staff. Breakfast staff are especially good and work really well together and the food is good. Rooms are really clean and the beds are really comfy. We had room 201 which showed signs of aging but suited us fine. Dont expect a quiet stay though as the area is a popular clubbing part of the town. We are 70 and it didn't bother us as we are night hawks but there is a constant disco thud from next door most of the day until 2am. Secure gated parking is a real bonus, its extra but well worth it. Would def stay here again.

Brilliant hotel, great location , excellent breakfast

Overall a brilliant stay couldn’t be any closer to the BIC where we were seeing a show. Cocktails were some of the best ever tried especially the French martini’s loved the evening entertainment the hotels staff were amazing but always had a smile! The bar staff were class the speed of service and their cocktail skills were amazing. Thank you so much roy Exeter hotel we will be back

We had one night here and it was lovely friendly staff ,clean room comfy bed on the 3rd floor. Easy quick walking distance to the beach . Lovely fresh breakfast and happy hour cocktails in the bar.

We had a wonderful weekend in Bournemouth at the Royal Exeter. We were especially happy with the hospitality of the staff in the 1812 bar. The happy hour is generous and good value. Breakfast was great too. Would recommend There was of course sound from the bar/nightclub but wasn’t too bad. We were on the 2nd floor

Nice hotel with an adjoining sushi bar. Sadly, we were not allowed to eat in the restaurant, as there were only two groups. The chef bought our breakfast to our room. It was delicious, but I’d have preferred it at a table. The staff were all friendly and the place was lovely.
