Just wonderful! The hotel manager Anna was so welcoming and hospitable, the room and breakfast were an absolute wow! Super dogfriendly too, we will definitely be back, highly recommend!

The manager Anna couldn’t have been nicer. She greeted us with a cup of tea and biscuits and allowed us to check-in early and was very helpful with suggestions of things to do in the city. Rooms were comfortable and quiet and included on-site free parking. Location just a short walk into the centre. Breakfast also very good with lots of options.

This is hafway between a bread and breakfast and a hotel. On the B&B side, it is quirky with rooms carved out of a historic building. They have done this very well. Reception is not full time but ‘on demand’, but service was quick. On the hotel side, it is professionally run and breakfast is outstanding. Service is excellent - very friendly people. Parking can be a bit of a nuisance in Durham, but this hotel has enough spaces. Although the hotel is old, the rooms are well maintained. Bed was comfy and shower great. My only gripe is the headroom on the top floor - if you are over 6ft tall, you are better off on a lower floor as the ceilings are low in places.

Lovely stay short walk from Durham city centre. Spacious room with city view. All staff have been very friendly and welcoming. Nice cooled breakfast option. The Indian restaurant on site was very tasty and great dining option. However, it is quite small so you are best booking a table. Hotel is dog friendly which was great for us.

Car park is relatively small, with 2 large 4x4s on there, it was a bit of a nightmare to park at first. There is an overflow car park though (perhaps exceedingly large vehicles should be disallowed or only allowed on the overflow?) Staff are excellent, especially Anna and the gentleman (whose name i didn't get) who served us for breakfast the first half of the week, both are superb at what they do. Good quality and quantity spread breakfast, made to order, and caters for dairy and gluten allergies. I can recommend the place based on staff alone, we felt very welcome and looked after. The building itself is beautiful, and quite a character on the inside. Its also situated only a 15 minute (jovial) walk from the cathedral...made traversing the city centre very convenient.

The room was shabby, very poorly lit and in need of a good clean and refurbishment. Breakfast was a disaster. It took over an hour to get served, the power was out in the kitchen, Even so several tables that arrived after us, were served before us, the breakfast staff had no idea how to serve and were totally dis-organised & confused. We will not be returning.

Lovely old building full of character in a fabulous setting.Could do with a little tlc. Staff were excellent and Anna was fabulous. Was so welcoming and friendly and such a hard worker. The place was very clean and tidy. The bedroom was very large and had everything laid out for us when we got there. The on-site Indian restaurant was a real bonus. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again.

This is a lovely place to stay. It was exceptionally clean. We enjoyed our breakfast that was served promptly. The breakfasts provide gluten free food as well as a variety of choices. The hotel has been modernised to a high standard. Our only concern was our double room being the attic there wasn't sufficient height to the ceiling for my husband who is 6ft 4inches. He could walk down the centre of the room and the shower was too low. I think if we had stayed more than the 1 night we would have asked if we could swap rooms. But overall a beautiful place to stay. Just ask about room height if you are taller than my height, 5ft 4in.

This was our Anniversary weekend, and a Friend recommended Farnley Tower to us. We weren't disappointed. We actually got an upgrade and had an amazing view of the Cathedral.

The bathroom had some problems. First, the toilet did not always flush completely. Second, the mirror over the sink was small and set so high on the wall that a small woman had to use a drawer as a step stool in order to use it. The bedside lamp was a joke---impossible to use for reading, low-wattage bulb. Setting it on an upturned wastebin brought it up to a height for reading in bed

Tv reception wasn't very good with minimal channels. Fire doors in corridors need soft close hinges on them. Constant slamming of door 5 foot from my headboard kept me from sleeping.

Beautiful hotel located a short walk from Durham city centre. Clean and spacious room. Fantastic Indian restaurant attached to the hotel. Bed was so comfortable! Staff were very efficient, nothing was a problem, very friendly.

Lovely traditional English guest house hotel. Simple arrival and check out, good breakfast with great options (menu choice, vegan, veggie, gf etc). Friendly staff, comfy bed (my ‘single’ was a small double) and no noisy air con/heating systems etc. A steep walk up from the city centre but not too far and no problem for me.

The room on first sight looked very quaint as it was up in the eves of the roof but after a short while i felt as though i was walking with a stoop to avoid the ceiling. Not sure how two people would cope in the room. Breakfast was delayed and i only got my tea when i was ajoit to leave.

I stayed here for the Great North Run in September. The staff are dedicated, to the point of opening breakfast from 5am on the day of the Run for runners! Exemplary and very easy to walk to the centre of Durham.

Lovely overnight stay. Very welcoming. Check-in and check-out were straightforward, the bed was very comfortable, the breakfast choice was great and my cooked meal was lovely. The only thing I'd recommend is replacing the hair-dryers, the one in my room kept cutting out and took awhile to cool down before I could briefly try to use again. Other than that I feel the hotel went the extra mile and looked after me very well, couldn't be nicer.

We had a lovely one-night stay here - the owner and staff were super welcoming and helpful, and we enjoyed a great breakfast in the morning. We were in one of the attic rooms, which involved a bit of stooping on our part, but it was a lovely room all the same!

Very comfortable guest house. Anna, the Manager, was very welcoming and helpful. We had a spacious and very homely room. Very convenient and with free parking. My daughter and I stayed here whilst on a short trip to visit the University. I'd already exchanged emails with Anna at the hotel and she'd been really helpful and super lovely. When we arrived, we were greeted and shown to our room. Room was lovely and clean, a nice size for the two of us and the beds were comfy. The breakfast room was lovely- laid out with a good choice of items to help ourselves too and then we had a menu to choose our hot options (we both had a lovely Full English) There is a restaurant in the grounds of the hotel- we had a drink there in the evening but no food as we were still full from our lunch. We'd definitely eat there if we went back again. The chap behind the bar was lovely and friendly and chatted to us a while about the city and the area etc. The hotel is about a 10-15 minute walk into town and actually quite a pleasant walk. If my daughter chooses Durham University then this is definitely where me and the family will stay when we visit.

Car park is relatively small, with 2 large 4x4s on there, it was a bit of a nightmare to park at first. There is an overflow car park though (perhaps exceedingly large vehicles should be disallowed or only allowed on the overflow?) Staff are excellent, especially Anna and the gentleman (whose name i didn't get) who served us for breakfast the first half of the week, both are superb at what they do. Good quality and quantity spread breakfast, made to order, and caters for dairy and gluten allergies. I can recommend the place based on staff alone, we felt very welcome and looked after. This guest house is a little gem. . In a quiet area of Durham, just a 10 minute walk to the centre but be warned it is uphill on the walk back! We stayed two night in Room 3 which was very spacious and ground floor. Beds so comfortable and room very clean. Great choice for breakfast and nobody will leave hungry . Anna the manager gives 💯 % nothing is too much trouble for her . We will definitely stay again when we return to Durham.

I stayed here for the Great North Run in September. The staff are dedicated, to the point of opening breakfast from 5am on the day of the Run for runners! Exemplary and very easy to walk to the centre of Durham.

The manager Anna couldn’t have been nicer. She greeted us with a cup of tea and biscuits and allowed us to check-in early and was very helpful with suggestions of things to do in the city. Rooms were comfortable and quiet and included on-site free parking. Location just a short walk into the centre. Breakfast also very good with lots of options.

Although at the top of a very steep hill this is an excellent property. Breakfast is beyond expectation. We were lucky to have a ground floor room. No view but very comfortable. An exceeding amount of tea,coffee etc. All in all very recommendable

Everything was good. The hotel was nice and clean, room was nice and had the amenities you would expect for the price paid. Breakfast was also very good. A 10 to 15 minute walk got you to the river (all downhill) then a little further uphill if you are aiming for the cathedral. Overall very nice and would stay here again.

Lovely stay short walk from Durham city centre. Spacious room with city view. All staff have been very friendly and welcoming. Nice cooled breakfast option. Beautifully decorated building with lots of colour and a really quirky atmosphere. Spacious, comfortable room with good shower. Sitting in the dining room was like sitting in the jungle! Good, friendly service and an excellent breakfast with plenty of choice. Good location to walk into Town and if you don't fancy the uphill walk back plenty of buses. Would definitely stay again next time we go to Durham.

The room was shabby, very poorly lit and in need of a good clean and refurbishment. Breakfast was a disaster. It took over an hour to get served, the power was out in the kitchen, Even so several tables that arrived after us, were served before us, the breakfast staff had no idea how to serve and were totally dis-organised & confused. We will not be returning.

Friendly staff, good free parking on the hotel grounds. Good location. Beautiful, old building, but that’s also the issue. We could here people walking on the floor above us. The bathroom is clean and nice but they forgot to place shower curtain, so was impossible to shower without water being everywhere. Wish these parts were better maintained. Somewhat tired building/facilities, but we only stayed overnight, so that’s ok. Breakfast is rather plain but staff is super friendly.
