Third visit to this hotel. What a difference a change in ownership makes. Rooms refreshed and clean and comfortable. Staff were absolutely amazing both before and during the stay. I rang to inquire about parking with a blue badge. The hotel called me within the hour (apologised for the delay although I had said there was no rush as my stay was a week or so away!). Could park either outside or down the side of the hotel. All staff were so friendly and helpful. We were attending a wedding and got a free upgrade. Would highly recommend to everyone. Plus - if you are buying one of the bus tour tickets they stop about 100 metres away so you can avoid the walk uphill if you want to!

The staff at the hotel were all lovely. Unfortunately the pool,spa area was being refurbished so we were unable to use. The hotel was very clean the foyer area was nice and relaxing, breakfast was nice. Great views over Arthur seat and well situated for Holyrood Palace,Dynamic Earth and parliament building.

Lovely hotel and rooms. Staff were all helpful, friendly and cheerful. The only issue were signs of poor management. Only one lift working the whole time that we were there . When we arrived, no lifts so we had to climb 6 floors with our cases. No salmon for breakfast except the last day. No invoice, system was down.

Loved staying here. Large room, large very comfortable bed. Great breakfast options. Staff very nice and helpful. Enjoyed the pool and sauna after long day of walking around Edinburgh. Can walk to Waverley station with luggage (15min). Slightly out of the heavy tourist area (next to uni campus) but only minutes walk to Royal mile etc. lots of great meal options close by. Definitely would stay here again.

There were no slippers in the room; we had to call reception to request them, and they sent them afterward. After our first night, the cleaning service was inadequate. The floors hadn’t been vacuumed, and the complimentary daily water hadn’t been replenished.

Brilliant location for exploring Edinburgh, lovely staff in the main and great room. what lets it down is the attention to detail, the brass plates on the doors for example covered with finger prints and not cleaned whilst we were there, sand on our floor (sorry) and not hoovered, breakfast not kept replenished even though we were right in the middle, tables not wiped properly otherwise wouldn't hesitate to recommend the hotel

The hotel was undergoing major refurbishment whilst we were there, which really spoilt our trip. Whilst the hotel did advise us in advance that the spa would not be available we were not advised of the general disruption and the noise of the workmen. We complained about this to the duty manager who kindly arranged for us to have a complimentary dinner on the second night of our stay. We were also concerned about the mould around the window, which we again brought to the attention of the duty manager, who in turn deducted the cost of our breakfasts from our bill. It would have been nicer not to have had to made these complaints in the first place. On a positive note the staff at this hotel are excellent.

Lovely warm welcome and so pleased with my spotlessly clean and comfortable room. Very quiet. The staff could not have been kinder or more helpful and the breakfast was amazing with special effort made for a vegan diet. I will definitely return.

A very nice room and comfortable. There were a couple of things that made this stay not excellent. The room was clean, but very lightly. The counters were never wiped off and they need a new vacuum cleaner. The door lock didn’t work properly. We did talk to the front desk twice they had someone come up and said that’s just the way it works. You had to lock it from the outside it wouldn’t just shut and lock it really didn’t make sense. Also, the Wi-Fi is really poor so if you are planning on working or even sending pictures or information. Good luck. Other than that the customer service in the restaurant is very nice. Good location good walking area. Great gym.

The room was very nice, updated. The bathroom was modern, spa-like with a great walk-in shower that had plenty of water power. The large television was also a plus. Location was a little bit of a walk uphill to the central area of the Royal Mile, but still in a good area. Overall, a very pleasant stay for us and would definitely go back again.

Our stay was great. Friendly staff, great services and nice rooms. Only bad point about our stay was that we had a king bed room and it was just 2 singles pushed together. During the night they end up splitting and you fall down the gap. Other than that the stay was amazing.

It was a nice hotel with very friendly staff. The breakfast buffet selection was good with custom orders available. Their dinner also was pretty good. Large portions though. The room was soacious and clean, the only limitation was the shelving and storage space. There is no dresser, and the storage space at the entrance is really limited. For a few day stay i had to keep my clothes in the suitcase. Location was good, I walked to all main attractions

The room ac was pathetic and did not work , even at maximum speed there was hardly any air conditioning. We had to ask for a fan as it was stifling in the room . The hairdryer was of absolutely poor quality. It took me an hour to dry my hair where it takes me half an hour usually!

Front desk team was nice but that is about it. Room was given late due to miscommunication between cleaning staff and front desk, beds are extremely uncomfortable (very cheap mattress), our room had no body shampoo and was not filled even after I explained that to room service, we ordered food but front desk forgot to place it and after 1 hour and multiple follow ups they realized it was a miss. I will not come back for this hotel, and I do not recommend it to anyone.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The concierge was extremely helpful with dinner suggestions, making reservations for us and directing us to the bus we needed to take. Would come back to the hotel again and recommend it to friends traveling to Edinburgh.

The staff is excellent - Rae, at the front desk could not have been more helpful and kind. My family and I were thrilled with the welcome we received, by Rae and Mike; and we were very pleased with the assistance they provided. And all staff were friendly, courteous, and professional! I intend to contact the manager to repeat this review directly. Also, great location.

I have never encountered friendlier more helpful concierges. David and Donald made our trip by recommending places to visit, restaurants and an itinerary to maximize our 4 days in Edinburgh. We even got discounts to several attractions from them. I would not stay at any other hotel in Edinburgh.

One of the front desk staff was rude during multiple interactions. And, the taxi company they called to take us to the airport charged me twice what it cost us to get to the hotel from the airport. I told the driver about his jacked up rates (plus he added 6 english pounds to be meter amount - I guess it was his built in tip). I hold the hotel responsible for doing business with such a company - I couldn't be the first person this has happened to...The property is several blocks from and at the bottom of the steep hill from the shopping district. I knew that when I booked but wouldn't stay there again because of the location, having experienced it firsthand. The room was spacious and comfortable. The food at the restaurant was okay.

Very calm and well run Marriott; the staff were very helpful, from the front desk to the bartenders. It's far enough out from the Old Town to be pretty quiet most of the week (though there was some local revelry on Friday), but right on the 35 Bus so you can get back and forth to tourist. Plus, only 5-10 minutes from Holyrood Park if you are interested in hiking. Would definitely book again when I am back in Edinburgh.

We found the hotel to be okay, not great or something to be delighted about. The room was spacious, linen was good and bathroom was pretty good. But there was hardly any storage space in the room. There was just an open space with 10 hangers and just one drawer. We booked the hotel thinking there would be views towards Arthur’s seat but our window looked into the building next door. We are vegetarians and the breakfast hardly had anything for us except some sweet pastries and some cheese. But more concerningly the female servers in the dining room (except 1) were generally unsmiling and seemed to be going through the motions as some chore. The hotel location was fine - it was 15 mins walk from High Street/Royal Mile and 5-10 min Uber ride from train station which was convenient. But overall the neighbourhood of the hotel is overly quiet (and dead). The checkout time is 12 noon and we were 10 mins late and the front desk lady was a bit sarcastic and made a comment. We may not choose to stay at this hotel again in our next trip.

The hotel is located in a great place, not far from the start of the Royal Mile (although there might be others that might be more centrally located to the train of bus stations), if you need, but only 5-10 minutes by taxi.

front desk staff were very friendly and accommodating. Food was very plain and service was slow. The lobster Bisque was very salty, and the fish and chips was very plain. probably the least tasty of the 10 plus places that we had fish and chips on our trip to Scotland. Very inconvenient getting around in the hotel. we had to go to different levels and long hallways with various direction changes to get to our room. bed was very hard and uncomfortable.

We were initially assigned a room that was nice but had some maintenance problems. Next morning, requested a change and we were given another room but it was smaller and less well located. We were polite and certainly didn’t “go off” on the agent. Customer service reception staff have quite a bit of latitude in this type of situation and I feel they missed an opportunity to truly make things right for us. It was a fine stay but didn’t wow us. Breakfast was good. Lots of selection, a-la-carte options available for order along with buffet, selection of gluten free items. Hotel is well-located. We had a light lunch in the restaurant a couple of times and the tomato and roasted red pepper soup is REALLY good. The bed comfort was pretty good.

Everything is very good. A huge improvement in all areas since being taken over by Marriott. The morning coffee however really lets the hotel down. Very weak filter coffee severed from a large container is not what you would expect from a 4 star establishment.

Rooms were spacious, clean and quiet.Great beds and nicely appointed. Dining was another matter. We spent 2 nights and the menu was fine, then took a 3 day tour of the Sky. When we returned the menu had completely changed and other than fish and chips, which we had been eating a lot of in London and Scotland, there was NOTHING on the menu my husband could eat. He is allergic to all things dairy (except eggs), sulfides, including shelfish, garlic, and onions, and does not eat meat (beef, lamb or pork). They removed the tuna fish sandwich and a quinoa bowl salad. We were very disappointed as the rest of our experianced here was great.

A really lovely stay in a great hotel. The staff were very attentive and courteous. The a la carte breakfast (salmon and eggs) was excellent. The eggs were definitely free range. We would most definitely stay here again.

Our room and stay was very good although we found breakfast appalling. The cooked breakfast was disgusting and of short supply and had to wait 15 minutes for someone to fill up the coffee jug. In hindsight i wish we had just gone out for breakfast instead.
