I like the location for the places I wanted to visit. I had looked up for a stay with a pool and it has said that this hotel has a year around indoor pool which was a reason I chose it, however when I inquired at the from desk it did not have a pool

It has olde world charm and the staff were friendly and helpful. The main problem was the lack of breakfast service. There was no indication online that breakfast had ceased being served after covid. Suggesting Macdonald's is a very poor substitute for the aroma of bacon, eggs and fresh toast being prepared. On line, even The Grand Hotel omelets were recommended! Ceasing breakfast service was a very poor decision! Dinner, however, was very enjoyable

Pictures are much better than the rooms. The gym is not at all a gym. Old stationary bike and tred mile. Not machines. I small rack of bumbles to 20lbs.

Hotel staff was very polite and helpful. Inconvenient to have to ice at the front desk. Coffee was not warm either. Room was nice. Hotel is a bit dated. Pool hasn't been open for years

Good location. Hallways & rooms smelled musty, maybe the carpets. The carpet in our room was lumpy like there was gravel under it when walking around. Went to go for breakfast, nothing here. Managed to find coffee in lobby. It was like a ghost town in the lobby at 10am. No music, kind of dark & dreary. Felt like the place was closed. Wife found spiders on bed….

Its at a convenient location. The surrounding area is clean but the rooms have stained and dirty carpets which are smelly. No water filter. The hallways smell a lot. The underground parking lot is dirty.

The room was clean and quiet. Check-in and check out were fast and easy. Secure parking is a huge plus especially in bad weather. I have stayed here many times and it's always low cost and quiet, so easy to sleep.

The first room we were given smelled strongly of cigar smoke. The replacement room was better but the air was stale. Fortunately there are opening windows which saved the day. Clean was average but the bed was very soft. All in all the place, especially the bed could do with a refresh. Nevertheless, I would go back because of the price and the lovely Scotch bar.

The floor of the was uneven and falling apart. There were craters in the floor which caused tripping in the dark. Also the room was not cleaned nor was bed made after first night.

Bathroom had hair on the shower walls upon check in. The whole room smelled like Grandma's bsmt. Carpets need torn out. It's just time for an update. Whoever owns the hotel is stuck in the early 90's and it just is in bad need of an update. The furniture, like the couch, on the sitting area is so old. We changed hotels after a night

The room was clean and spacious. The staff were helpful and kind. There’s a beautiful garden out back with figs, grapes, and much more. This place is a special find with wonderful character. I can’t wait to go back!

The room was clean. Towels in the bathroom were fluffy. It was a quiet location. The decor in the lobby was rather dated, but not objectionable. The only odd thing was the floor in the room, it was very lumpy under the carpet; with dips and hills that were noticeable when you walked from one side of the room to the other.

It is an older hotel, but the rooms were very spacious and we did not hear any neighbours beside us, which was nice. We appreciated the refrigerator and the toiletries provided. It was nice to have parking included as well.

The Grand Hotel Nanaimo had a dated rooms but also an old cozy feel to the hotel. The shower pressure was fantastic although the shower curtain has a tendency to be your buddy. My room faced the out front which also gave me the opportunity to keep an eye on my rental car and I did have a balcony which was kind of nice, but was rarely used.

Paid $270 for a suite for the night and the air-condition in bedroom did not work the microwave did not work the jets in the soaker tub did not work. I complained they sent maintenance and did not fix air con. When i asked in morning about soaker tub jets not working they told me none of the soaker rubs work ?? Should i not have been told that ?

Clean room. Hotel very out of date. Cracked tile in bathroom. Floors are terrible. Carpet is 30 years old and totally wrecked - backing appears to have cone off and bunched up causing very uncomfortable and uneven walking. Do not take off your shoes. Tacky front entrance. Needs a major update - probably all original when built in late 90s

I have stayed here a couple times and been satisfied each time! The rooms are a little dated, and the jets in the jacuzzi tub are broken, other than that the rooms are clean enough this last stay the room wasn't as clean as the previous time (dirty carpet, hair in the shower). We went and tried the whiskey bar, which had an amazing selection, and very knowledgeable staff, but be warmed there is no AC and no fans, and on a 28° day, it was so stuffy we ended up leaving due to the heat (even though we would have loved to stay longer).

Fire alarm went off around midnight. There was NO staff at all to direct the hotel guest. Hotel guest had to call the local fire department. Hotel guest were standing outside for at least 20 minutes without any information. In the end the fire fighter told me it was a faulty board that triggered the alarm. This Hotel was run down and outdated. The elevator door had a hard time closing. I had to hold the close button to get it to fully close. I would NOT recommend this Hotel.

We had booked for 4, the sofa for our children was a jack knife couch that had ot been vacuumed, so it was full of crumbs for them to sleep on, they had been given 1 pillow and a felt blanket. We asked the front desk to have the bed vacuumed and they said they would bring sheets up and would make up the bed. When we returned the sheets had been dropped off and the bed had not been vacuumed. We went down to the front desk and told the desk. They were concerned they would have to leave the desk unattended, but did find a vacuum to clean the sofa, we had to make up the bed. I called to ask if the TV had access to Netflix, the person laughed and said of course not. It says on hotels.com thereis a relaxing pool, but it was locked up and empty. We got an air matress for the 10 year old to sleep on because the sofa does not fit 2 people. I asked how to turn on the jacuzzi tub, the desk told me none of them are functioning in the hotel. They did let us check in early and waved the fee. Front desk evening woman was very nice...but all alone. The room aside from all that was nice, but not worth the $380ish we were charged on the website.

Good location, central to a lot of Nanaimo. A little away from the noise of the highway, but close enough for easy access. Nanaimo North Mall very close with lots of restaurants too. Nice little balcony to enjoy a coffee on in the morning.

This hotel is a nice hotel in a good location where you can easily walk around the nearby lake, or explore Nanaimo. It's an older hotel so it is dated, but the price is reasonable and the place is well cared for. The outdoor garden is delightful and a great place to relax or work!

This is a very nice hotel in a convenient location. We like to e-bike and the hotel is a half kilometer from two bike trails that parallel highways 19 and 19A. We biked the N&L Trail, Nanaimo Parkway Trail and a few connector trails, about 45 km. There are plenty of places to eat within a lm of the hotel. The staff even provided a safe place to store our bikes overnight. It was so nice and convenient we stayed 3 nights. It’s also close to the ferry terminal for the ferry to Horseshoe Bay.

The Grand Hotel is a beautiful and clean building with friendly staff that I would stay at again. However I would have preferred if the room stocked tea as well as coffee, for non-coffee drinkers. Also, I would not recommend visiting this hotel unless you are driving as the walkability is really poor.

Spacious room. Staff were quick to help when TV remote was missing. The dining room food and service was amazing! The British memorabilia in the lobby was wonderful. The hotel lived up to its name - Grand!

Very helpful frontdesk personnel as well as in the restaurant. We arrived in the last minutes of the restaurants opening hours, but they managed to give us a table and a good dinner. BTW :Their selection of whisky is above and beyond anything we have seen before.
