Very close to a nice area of San Jose. The property itself is nice and room wax clean and quiet. Kiddo loved the pool and the small waterslide that connected the hot tub on top to the pool below.

Very nice property with great location just a few blocks from downtown St Jose. Staff is extremely helpful. Ample and secure parking. The property has a lockable gate and 24 h staff. All windos face on the inside so street noise is not an issue.

I chose this hotel based off the amenities it offered and the vicinity to restaurants and the central market. Parking I appreciate that it has a parking garage in the downtown area where parking is hard to come by. I also liked how the parking is gated so no else other than hotel guests would be able to access it since the area around the outside of the hotel is not the best after dark. Hotel amenities The hotel offers guests a gym, pool, jacuzzi, and a terrace to lounge in. It also offers guests free breakfast with multiple options to choose from. Hotel room Our hotel room was nice and spacious and had everything we needed. The bed was comfortable and we were able to get a good night’s rest. Overall Though the hotel is older, it’s charming and comfortable with easy access to places to eat and shop. I would definitely stay here again if I’m ever in San José in the future.

A little sketch from the street, but gorgeous inside. Beautiful grounds and a really cool swimming pool plus whirlpool. Ample parking. Within walking distance of everything you want to see in downtown San Jose. Free tasty breakfast, which catered well for a gluten free person like myself. Met the owner, Thomas an xpat from the USA who was very helpful and genuine. A real delight!

In a very central location, just a few blocks from Central Avenue I am told by others it is not the safest area at night, but I had no issues as a single male gringo during my stay The room is quite basic, but it is quiet, so you can get a good night’s rest There is a gym and a pool you can use. Also there are a number of parking spots available. Best get in touch with the hotel to secure a spot! Thomas is a good host

This hotel is inexplicably way overrated (hotels.com shows 8.4/10 overall and and 8.8/10 on amenities). This hotel at best is an outdated, run down Motel 6 that should be rated no more than maybe a 6 / 10 (and that may be generous). The bathroom had a barely flowing shower (see video) and no shampoo. There was a constant flow of black mystery substance falling from the ceiling onto the sink and floor (see pics)…hoping that isn’t roach droppings which is what Google suggests. The toilet barely flushed. Only three small and thread-bare towels for a room we paid extra to have four people in. Sheets where old and had stains. They failed to clean the room, make the beds or provide new towels. There was no in-room safe, just a drawer that barely locked. The hotel is close (easy walking distance) to important attractions, but not really in a good neighborhood (as evidenced by the “men’s club” a block away and home people sleeping on the street outside) The (very small) staff was friendly, no complaints there.

The place is really great, but we had an insect incident in our room. We found three large cockroaches during our overnight stay, one of which landed on my head the next morning. Also, after the vanilla perfume had worn off, the room smelled of mould. Our room was on the older side of the main floor. The staff explain that the insect fenomenone was due to the recent heavy rainfall. We visited in early January 2025.

The location is good, rooms are big., staff are good. The only problem to me was cleanliness. I recommend them to wash up all bed covers, they smell dirt. And some rooms has carpets which snell very bad! They need to be washed. I didn’t touch the towels, couldn’t trust if they are clean.

Stayed second time here. A good hotel with a plenty of history and great athmosphere. We had a chat with the owner - a real nice guy. The hotel is well located. There are plenty of shops nearby. The room we had was huge. I did not miss the ac since ventilation through the windows was sufficient enough. An excellent small scale time travel👍👍👍

Excellent start to our Costa Rican adventure. Room 35 was at the top,back of the hotel, so nice and quiet. Room was large, clean and the bed was comfortable. Lots of areas to relax. Shared fridges and microwaves if required. Safe car parking. Excellent breakfast. Just round the corner from a free guided walking tour and many nearby things to visit.

Es una buena opción si lo que necesitas es estar en el centro de las plazas y de la ciudad, pero en sus alrededores es bastante inseguro caminar de noche. Si sufres de calor no es adecuado porque las habitaciones no tienen aire acondicionado y en noche de 21°C o 64°F en habitaciones con poca ventilación de la planta baja puedes pasar un poco de calor. En las habitaciones ubicadas en la planta alta y con balcón, estas tienen mayor ventilación cruzada y es mas fresco y cómodo para dormir aun sin que tengan aire acondicionado.

We stayed on and off at Hotel Santo Tomas for 14 days. Everything about this place is absolutely amazing. We could not have asked for a better place to call home for extended period of time and be comfortable to adventure out all over the country but know we could go back each day or spend a day away. Amazing suggestions for places to eat, visit, and things to do along the way. The breakfast included had options and was scratch made and fresh. Rooms were clean and all needs were meet above and beyond what was expected. Staff was so kind and thoughtful and willing to help with anything and everything. We will be staying here each time we need to head to San Jose and may even go just for this place.

The property is average and near a shady side of town. I would of given the property a better review if they would of given me an extra 15-20 minutes to check out but they wanted to charge an extra $70 for the two rooms. If I would received the extra 15-20 minutes I would of considered that good service but they get average at best. There is also only a bar of soap for hygiene. No shampoo or conditioner like most above average lodges. Check in is easy though.

This place was perfect and the staff was truly incredible. The rooms were spacious and the location was perfect for us. Restaurants were nearby and downtown was a short walk. But, the most amazing part was the staff. My mom had left her phone in the room after check out. Keyling, the front desk attendant, immediately called me letting me know and found a quick solution to get my mom’s phone back to us at the airport! Yes the hotel was great but having a staff look out for you and care is priceless. Thank you again Keyling! And next time we are in San Jose, we will be here!

The owner Thomas came up and introduced himself the first day. The hotel had a charming appeal and the staff went above and beyond to make sure your needs were met. If you're looking for a cockie cutter IKEA hotel this is not it. The hotel has character and would stay 10/10 times again.

Location was ok for downtown SJ but extra care needed in area very close by. Wouldn't want to stray too far in the wrong direction after dark ( or early Sunday morning as we did !) would recommend this place.

This part of San Jose is now considered unsafe and is rather desolate looking. The owner is a sweetheart and very helpful. The room was rudimentary, not all that clean and ran out of hot water for the second morning shower (we were two of us). Breakfast is good, the pool area and the pool itself are pretty. What makes this place is the owner.

Great place to stay if needing a San Jose central location. Had to stay near Clinica Biblica Hospital so price was good and Staff and owner were beyond great. The particular area is conveniently close to SJ Centro and all that goes with that, the only negative is the issues that come with big Cities everywhere in the world. Sketchy at night, great in the daytime. Hotel had secure parking and great amenities for a comfortable stay. If coming from the warm beach areas, don't forget to pack warm clothes. 28c lows in Guancaste, 17c in San Jose. But the cool hot tub fixed that nicely!

We booked the most economical room available, and it was great for our purposes. The only downside was that the fan in the room was broken, but the room cooled down that night and it wasn't needed. We were slightly concerned that the lock on the room door seemed able to be opened by any key, but we had no problems while we were there. Breakfast was amazing, and the common area with the pool was very beautiful and peaceful.

Lugar muy bueno para hospedarse , céntrico , el problema son los alrededores por la noche , calles muy inseguras . Desayuno rico pero solo se ofrecen dos opciones diarias, el personal súper amable . La última noche en la habitación fue limpiada con cloro y el olor muy fuerte se quedó toda la noche. Solo tener cuidado en esos detalles . Las instalaciones del hotel son buenas y bonitas , un poco de más cuidado en el baño ya que está averiada la regadera .

Lovely bfast at the pool area; helpful staff. Interesting and comfortable accommodations, although our room was on an air shaft. Area is dead at night and we were told to take a taxi anywhere. Cafe Rojo down the street great Vietnamese. Only uber eats if you arrive after 8:30.
