My only complaint is that the bar/restaurant in the hotel does not utilize the same POS system as the hotel, so you can not charge your meal to the room. They don't accept cash. The menu is severely limited. Having said that, the hamburger was excellent as was the steak. The hotel itself is quaint with some very nice antique touch's like the dress maker shop you see from the elevator as you ascend and the old switch board. The room itself was large, well appointed, good bed/pillow. This is my second stay. I will be back.

A solid budget-friendly option in a great location in San Diego. If you want a bed and a room with no frills in the heart of a fun neighborhood, this is for you. If you want anything else - breakfast, a coffee bar, a gym bigger than 10ft x 10ft - this isn't your spot.

The property is obviously older and a bit outdated. Valet is a bit expensive. 60/day. The shower was super hot and I couldn’t get it to cool down. Definitely Didn’t look forward to a HOT shower on a summer day. There’s no breakfast on site. Literally I felt super overcharged because there’s not many amenities. It is within walking distance to most restaurants and night life, so I’ll give it that. But 400/night I expected a lot more.

The staff was welcoming and amazing to deal with. The hotel is beautiful but could use a few minor upgrades...one elevator was out for out stay and the bathroom fan was noisy. They offered to swap our room but said all the fans were the same. Great area in the middle of dozens of good eateries.

This is our 4th time staying here? Rooms are comfy staff is great bar is perfect but should be able to stay open longer if guests are still there the bar closes at 10pm also they should have a coffe counter for the morning they did on the past

Seems like they are trying with this place but it’s old and kind of drab. Towels are the cheapest towels you can buy at Walmart. The photos online make it look way nicer than it is. They say they have a state of the art fitness facility but it’s on treadmill and one cable machine in a 10x10 room.

Rooms had a little bit of a weird old, stale smell to them. We enjoyed the little restaurant but wished the hours on a weekend were a little later than 10 pm. Ceiling fans in the lobby need a good dusting.

The housekeeping department did a terrific job in the room. The hotel itself could use somewhat of a refresh. The beds are very comfortable. Some of the staff are personable, others were not. The valet parking is the weakest link, too much money,also had to wait 20 mins one day to get my car. On different occasions 2 people were busy with cell phones as a distraction. Not impressed at all. To end on a positive note, the location suited my needs this trip.

Incredible hotel and beautiful bar but the standard room is tiny and it’s always freezing cold inside the hotel. Great location and you can walk to everything. $60 per night for car storage was a little much.

The carpet was very disgusting. The air conditioning was so loud. The shower handle was not working. Couldn’t use the shower. Every morning at 7:30 the sound of vacuum in the hallway was waking me up

The staff was very helpful and friendly! The lobby area, entrance and courtyard was beautiful. The elevator passed by window sills covered in heavy dust and cobwebs. The hallways were cute. The room had a fireplace and balcony which was great. The high ceilings were great. The room was clean. However the room was small, the carpet was old and overall the odor was old. The bathroom was also tiny with no room to place anything on the counter. I was looking forward to an older boutique hotel, but unfortunately the older carpet/odor, dust and cobwebs would keep me from staying again in the future.

I booked the hotel because it had character. However, it also had a smell, weird noises, and doors that stayed open to alleys 24/7. Unless you book a suite, the rooms are TINY. Two of us stayed in different rooms and both smelled awful.

No parking available, even for valet. We asked for extra blankets and never got brought up. Our “balcony” was TINY. No trash can in the room, and opening the door was a bit of a tussle each time. Staff was okay, bathroom had a weird smell

Stale smell, balcony filthy and full of cob webs, bathtub had bugs and spiders daily, shampoo, conditioner and body wash pumps not working in rhe shower. Room appeared to bot to have been used in awhile, dusty and stale. TVs would not turn on and lamp in sitting area not working. Expedia should not recommend this hotel.

Main reason for the score is because the ac did not work. When I called the front desk. They weren’t helpful. I slept in a room with an 80 degree temperature. The gentlemen in the morning kindly waived a $27 fee for inconvenience but I believe they could’ve done more.

The hotel is beautiful but our room was a lot smaller than expected. The lighting wasn’t too great and the tv glitched quite a bit. Bed was comfy, water was hot, and it was clean so can’t complain too much! I just wish we had a bigger space.

The rooms were clean and the hotel was beautiful. The problem was that I could hear every step the person above me took and it made a loud popping sound in my room with every step. I know that hearing sounds from neighbors is totally normal but the loud popping sound was enough to wake me up and the person above me was up most of the night walking back and forth.

This is a fine hotel and kind of quirky but with super basic amenities equivalent to a best western or holiday inn express. The lighting in the rooms was awful and the interior quartyard is the balcony not really outside. It was fine as a place to crash, but not as a fun hotel stay.

Short on amenities…..limited lighting….no mirrors, except for the bathroom…no counter space. The bed was great, but the pillows were hard to sleep on. Key system didn’t always work…many trips from fourth floor to the lobby for working keys.

Paid for city view, had view of service alley. Sound carries, you can hear everything. I know it's an old building but maybe enforce quiet hours if you know your building isn't going to give people a good night's sleep

The stay overall was great, the room was spacious and clean. The staff was absolutely wonderful, Robert the valet was a gem as well as Patricia who was at the front desk to check us in. They also let us stay an extra hour which we greatly appreciated. Only a couple of things i wanted to note was that the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash wasn't restocked and we were only there for the night. The balcony was extremely small but other than that I would stay again. 4.5 stars out of 5 :)

The entire staff was amazing, attentive and welcoming. I especially appreciated Robert the valet. This property is well maintained, clean, great central location downtown and perfect for a work stay. I will definitely be back.

The hotel was originally good for the money. Upon arriving to the hotel I had to pay an additional $100. I had been aware of the $55 due for destination/property fees, but had paid everything else prior. With the added costs it made this stay comparable to nicer hotels. Which had I known ahead of arriving, I would have looked elsewhere. Upon arriving when we approached the front desk we were not greeted. The concierge had airpods in, her phone out, and we were clearly interrupting her phone conversation. There was no politeness and felt like I was intruding. She gave us the keys and there was not further explanation on how to get to our room, what to do about parking, where the ice machine were. That was it. ( I went to the front desk another day to buy water and she was the exact same.) The room itself was very victorian. It was nice and we had a balcony.

Check-in at the Horton was great. The renovations to the building are very impressive. However, the wall hanging hair dryer didn't work and the replacement that maintenance installed smelled like burned toast so a hand held one was finally found on day 2. Housekeeping could not read the "Do Not Disturb" sign.

Such a beautiful hotel. So much history, if you stay here, make sure you read about their history on the website. We chose this place for a last minute one night, romantic getaway. It did not disappoint. We were able to walk to Seaport Village and to the Gaslamp district. Everything was so close.

Prime location for restaurants, shopping, and entertainment. The baseball field is RIGHT down the road. The Boardwalk was only a few blocks away. And the airport was only about 4 miles from us. Very convenient location.

The Grand Horton is full of character! The staff we interacted with were friendly. My only negative feedback is our room faced Island Ave so it was very loud till the wee hours due to vehicle noise and people walking around. It was very difficult to get sleep. If you stay here request a room facing the courtyard instead.

The proximity to the convention center was great. I really appreciated that it was located on a quieter street, so it was not loud inside the room. Certainly a good consideration for my next trip when I’m around the Gaslamp District.

The restaurant was very good , we had salmon risotto , it was perfectly cooked. The server was very knowledgeable about the menu and wine cocktail selections. We really enjoyed the stay. Would suggest coffee service in the lobby though because the restaurant isn’t open in the morning. Also the beds are very comfortable and it was very quiet in the room!

Beautiful room with balcony overlooking the interior,courtyard. Third floor puts you a tree level - really lovely and no traffic noise. Restaurant only open for dinner, but everything I tried was great, and the service as well.

Beautiful hotel in Gas Lamp! Location is excellent, staff is friendly, and the room was clean and comfortable. We had trouble with the wifi but other than that our stay was perfect. The bar (Salt & Whiskey) is an awesome site to see. If you prefer new and modern this isn't the place for you, but if history and tradition is desired there is nothing better in downtown San Diego.

Great spot close to restaurants. Salt and whiskey downstairs was fantastic!!!!!! The live music on Friday was such a vibe. The manager Fredrick Ivy was super sweet and helpful. The front desk staff (all of them) were always friendly and happy to help. Amazing experience! Will be back!
