I have stayed and/or dined in Ritz-Carlton properties in the US, Northern Africa, and Europe and have always had an exemplary experience. The Washington D.C. Ritz was horrible. The lobby is nice but the rooms are dingy and dated. I requested an accessible room as I was traveling with my grandmother who was in her 80s and their take on accessibility is interesting. There was no place for us to hang our coats or dresses where they didn't touch the dingy carpet--the bar in the closet was positioned way lower than even someone in a wheelchair would need; there was no mirror in the room for her to do her hair and makeup and obviously she can't stand in the bathroom to do it, and the mirror/sink was too high for her to sit in a chair in the bathroom. We ordered room service and paid way too much for a subpar steak that was cooked completely incorrectly temperature-wise. I kept receiving emails about making it right but nothing was made right. I regret spending so much money thinking it would be special. This may as well have been a Residence Inn that they slapped the Ritz brand on. There was nothing special about this experience except for the valet who went above and beyond.

The restaurant was very sub par every time we eat there. When we mentioned it, to the reception and the manager they said it was outsourced to another caterer and they did not take responsibility or address this issue. But on the Ritz Carlton website, they mislead you as if its a Ritz Carlton restaurant. Also the room cleaning is below par for a 5 star Ritz Carlton.
