Holiday Inn Dubuque/Galena by IHG

VERY VERY SMALL POOL. Hot tub closed and the pool was closed often throughout the day for "maintenance".

Parking was an issue because they were working on the parking garage.

The Holiday Inn is a nice hotel in downtown Dubuque. It is new and modern and quite comfortable. The rooms were nice and clean and we had a great view from our room. We had plans for most of the afternoon and early evening outside of the hotel. We planned to enjoy the evening in the hotel pool and hot tub. But the hot tub was not functional and the pool area had a big sign that says "Under Renovation". Disappointed that we could not use the hot tub.

2nd time staying here. They have a shuttle that will take you where you need. Restaurant/bar inside,always a plus.

Horrible horrible pool facilities!!! Won’t be back only reason we booked here wash for pool 3 families pool was so cold could not go in and hot tub had plywood over it what a mess!!!

The Staff was great!...room was clean but across from ice machine and noisy. Broken elevator was inconvenient and limited access to stairs. Stairwells could use some cleaning both inside and parking lot areas. More lighting in parking ramps! Enjoyed the shuttle service but it is limited...have to wait- first come first serve, and they don't cross bridges or rivers...RiverRock was a wonderful experience...

Friendly staff. Can walk to many amenities. Shuttle will drive you to locations 2 miles out.

Clean room, great staff. Need to have more French vanilla creamer on hand. 😅😉 A little disappointed about the pool not in service. But we didn’t have time for it after all. I look forward to next time!

The Hotels.com website described this property as having free self-parking. The parking lot was undergoing a major renovation, forcing guests to park in a lot that was inconvenient, and had (what appeared to be) homeless people sleeping in it at night. The parking voucher did not work, forcing me to pay $10 to exit the lot. In addition, the construction was very loud, forcing me to change rooms twice to avoid incessant noise.

The staff was very nice & friendly. Loved the location - right next to Five Flags Center. Only issued we had was the parking. They were working on the parking lot so had to park across the street in the city public parking. There was a fee to park there but the hotel validated our tickets so there was no charge. Will totally stay there everytime I visit Dubuque! 😊👍

When we got to our room and were putting things away in the bathroom, the towels just didn’t seem fresh and when I turned around, there were two dry, dirty washcloths hanging over the shower rod/curtain. It immediately made me feel that the room wasn’t cleaned well.

The location of the property was convenient. It was tidy in the public areas. Housekeeping was pretty bad. We had to ask to have our room cleaned and basically they only changed our towels. There was no toilet scrubber in the bathroom and they totally ignored the toilet to the point I was afraid to use my toothbrush. The bed was not made, they simply pulled the duvet over the pillows, left the sheets hanging on the floor. I've traveled extensively and never have seen anything like it. The price of the hotel had almost doubled from the first time I looked and I suspect this was done because of a little league baseball tournament but the service was awful. Also, the complimentary breakfast was pretty bad. I will probably return to this area but most likely will not stay here. I am so surprised because IHG usually does a much better job.

Great location friendly people super clean

My experience check in and out was amazing. Staff was so welcoming and friendly. I got to my room and it smelled like cigarette smoke, the comforter had a blood spot on it, and the shower had hair on the wall. I was exhausted and didn’t want to deal with switching rooms but I wouldn’t be surprised if anyone else would have refused to sleep in there.

The room was not very clean. There was hair on the bathroom sink faucet handle, on the bathtub, and all over the floor in the bathroom. There was also something leaking from the the bottom of the toilet that looked like old vomit that was not cleaned. The headboard on the bed looked like it had splashmarks and handprints all over it, so did several places on the walls.There were also stains on several pillow cases. It just did not feel very clean at all

We had a room on the 3rd floor directly next to the elevator. We booked a Kin Accessible and instead received a double bed room with a very small window. A dirty room both in the room and in the bathroom. The shower curtain was missing (only the exterior shower curtain was present) and the room on the 3rd floor next to the elevator was the loud because you can hear the elevator running (it makes a loud bussing sound) all night.

The room was dirty (door rails for the shower had built up gunk, sink drains were very dirty, they was a random 2 inch screw on thy bedroom floor). All of the faucets were really loose. The bed was 3 inches off the base so I hit my leg on it walking by the bed. Pull out bed had about a 2 inch jail mattress. Walls and headboard were all scuffed up and dirty. Headboard looked like something sprayed or to clean, but forgot to clean. Both air conditioner panels were broken and taped back on.

Hotel was clean and had a contemporary look but some common modern amenities were missing. Notably missing were charging outlets/stations common to most hotels these days. Also we were located next to the elevator shaft, which was fairly loud.

Still has old TVs that can’t stream.

Room was tired, could use updated with better lighting in the bathroom. It’s way too dark. Room smelled like someone smoked cigarettes in it, it was awful. Sound travels easily through the door from the hallway, house keeping in the morning was talking outside our door for awhile and it sounded like they were in our room talking we could hear them clearly. Parking was easy. Location is nice for downtown activities.

Really nice hotel and clean, however the rooms are fairly old and beat up. Really in need of an update

Rooms are not as updated as pictures shown. Damage on the electrical outlets and air conditioner. The people in the room next door got into a screaming match at 1:30am but the staff was quick to get that taken care of. Staff was excellent but the facilities were not so much.

Good location. Huge lobby. Room was small. Our view was of the roof and air conditioning units. Refrigerator was very loud. The temperature in the room went from hot to cold everytime the air conditioning was running and then stopped. It didn't seem to regulate the temperature evenly enough to be comfortable. Couldn't exit the building using the stairs unless there was an emergency. So had to use the elevator to get to the second floor.

The rooms are out dated and need repair. Curtains, door stop cap, light bulbs have different color rendering in fixtures. Drainage is slow and needs cleaning out in sink. Closet not organized.

Cracked plaster in ADA room 124 looked about to fall down on headboard. Also walls damage near shower floor

Staff was great, shout out to Laura at the bar and Jeff who drives the shuttle! Front desk people were great too! The chef and sous chef were also fantastic! Chef makes a phenomenal Cajun chicken and shrimp pasta!!! The room was also lovely and clean. Very friendly property.

The staff was EXCELLENT! Everyone was friendly and we had a great stay.

I called in advance multiple times for early check in, each time seems I got a different answer and when I called on the way there, after noon, the person who answered was snitty and said I can’t ask for early check in until after 2 pm. Appears there needs to be better, and consistent training. Bar folks were great, only reason I give an ‘average’ rating for hotel staff, below average for front desk staff.

Hotel is very nice in downtown Dubuque near the river. However when we arrived there was no one at the front desk and no bell or call system. Eventually I found someone in the restaurant who assured me the front desk person would be there soon but obviously didn’t contact anyone. After waiting again I called the hotel. The ringing phone brought an employee from a back office, who said he had been busy with paperwork. He apologized and was friendly but it took 10-15 minutes to get help.

I asked for a receipt and they said they were not able to give me one when I was leaving. Otherwise, everything else was fine.

We reserved a king bed that reception decided to hold for a guest that was checking in the next day. The front desk staff were very rude when asked why we were being denied the bed we reserved when we were told it was available the night we checked in? My husband recently had back surgery so sleeping together in a queen bed won't work. We looked at other hotels but paid more for a king at this hotel. My husband snores loudly so if he is sleeping in another bed I cannot gently tickle his ear so he stops snoring. I got a total of 5 hours of sleep over our 2 night stay. Our breakfast coupons were also withheld until we went and asked for them. The restraunt buffet left a lot to be desired but the wait staff was great. There was not enough parking so we spent a great deal of time driving around. There were only 3 handicapped parking spots but far more elite parking spots. Why do elite members deserve preferred parking more than handicapped? The air conditioner wasn't working properly and we were warm the first night. They cleaned all air conditioners Saturday starting at 8am (very early) and there was water on the floors and elevators, very dangerous. The grip bar in the shower had been repaired but there were gaps that made em nervous to use it. Also the grip bar was to low for the shower. This hotel certainly didnt deserve the rating it has.

It is nice to be right downtown in Dubuque and close to restaurants and shops. Parking was free and available, but usually we had to walk up a flight of stairs to get to the elevator.

Great location for attending a concert at Five Flags venue.

Wonderful place to stay from the comfortable rooms (choice of soft and/or firm pillows, fluffy comforter) cheery staff, and location to great restaurants, Mississippi River Walk, shops and casino.

We always stay here for Winter Iowa Games. Nothing more convenient being directly across the street from the venue.

The food in the resturant is amazing and they have the nicest bartender Ryan - he was so friendly and we enjoyed or time talking to him.

Great bed, very small pool, bathroom was dirty when we went to shower( dog hai and dirty towels)… desk clerk did say that their housekeeping people had just walked out and they were in a little bit of a crisis with them being sold out. Restaurant was really good for both dinner and for breakfast. Make sure to buy your breakfast coupons with your reservation so it’s cheaper.

It was clean and lobby areas were nice. Pool was disappointingly tiny! Room was small but nice. A bit tired looking, but very clean. I wish they had recycling. Restaurant was understaffed and they were stressed! Prepurchased breakfasts were credit toward meal instead = false advertising! We had to pay extra in person. Overall, we thought we overpaid substantially and could’ve stayed cheaper elsewhere for a better pool, breakfast, room, etc. The location was great, but we paid what I’d expect for a bigger city hotel. We love family travel & wish our stay could’ve been less disappointing.

Hotel was centrally located and very clean. Skip the breakfast buffet, all the food was cold and it took 20mins to get a cup of coffee. Other than that I enjoyed my stay.

Wonderful stay and welcoming staff. The restaurant off the lobby added a nice touch. Also, so many great restaurants were nearby.

Staff was very polite and building was clean but cafe is very slow and forgetful with food orders. There was no complimentary breakfast. I was very disappointed with this hotel with no complimentary breakfast. I'm probably not going to stay there again 😕.

Did a girlfriend trip for 3 days. This hotel was so convenient and the front desk staff went out of their way to be helpful. We could walk to most everything we wanted to see. Shuttle service is available to many attractions. Breakfast was good and our waitress was wonderful. Dinner, not so much. Food was marginal and service was very slow for dinner. Only ate dinner there once. Comfy beds and pillows. Would stay here again.
