Stoney Creek Hotel Des Moines - Johnston

Thought the staff was friendly and very helpful, love the lodge feel the only thing i wish they fixed was the hallway carpets some has rolled and is a trip hazard and definitely well worn. The pool and hot tub was awesome after walking all day, so would recommend.

Staff was very friendly throughout our stay. However we had two main areas of concern. 1. The bathroom in our room was not the cleanest - crumbs and hair on the floor. 2. The pool - WAY too much chlorine OR poor ventilation. Within 15 minutes of being in the pool area our eyes were burning and watering. Our 4 young kids could not stop coughing and felt "Like I couldn't breathe". It was dangerously high levels so we left. We notified staff and they said they would check into it..

The spa needs a good cleaning. The tile are very dirty around the rim. The whole pool area could use some maintenance. Good concept just needs to be freshened and cleaned

Nice pool and hot tub was hot. Breakfast crew went above and beyond made my birthday breakfast extra special.

The Building is lovely with cool photo memory areas. The pool area had a lot of chlorine in the water, It also burned the eyes just being in the pool area. Overall a nice place to stay.

Great stay. Only bone is being given a room in a separate building from the pool and breakfast area. Should have a small breakfast in both buildings.

Enjoyed the large room. Huge bed. Lovely hot tub. Fireplace was great. Room was super clean. However they missed the wasp nest in the window (we noticed and shut the window do they couldn't get in the room). And that our soap and shampoo were all empty. Otherwise in the Cottages it was great. Loved the community rooms. Pool area was very nice tho sauna has been out of order for well over a year now. Excerixe facilities were nice. Parking was very convenient. Main hotel seems to need updates. Cottages not so much. WiFi worked well tho it should be secured. Hot water never ran out. All amenities in the king with the hot tub were great. Staff were great all 2x we interacted with them. Whoever was near us Sunday night though had their music cranked with bass for about 6 hours straight or longer. Til well past midnight. We didn't work the next day so we let it go. Will definitely be back.

Parking.

This is a gem of a property, unique, fun. Great location just off the I-80 exit and tucked behind a convenience store. Comfortable rooms nicely decorated with a "Pacific Northwest"-type feel. Fantastic, helpful staff and a cute bar on site.

Very fun pool area for kids, with indoor and outdoor elements. Hotel was clean and service was super friendly.

Quick friendly check-in. Clean room, dated fixtures. Hallway carpet is loose in one spot and could be a trip hazard if you're not watching.

The property was beautiful but the cleanliness of the hotel room itself was poor. There was a pod left in the keurig, there was trash left on the floors, and the matress had a pee stain on it. There was also a cockroach crawling on the bed 😐 you could tell that the bathroom counters hadnt been wiped down and there was so much hair a soap scum in the bathtub drain that the water pooled up while showering. I am disappointed.

This place is dirty and outdated. I would not stay here again and I feel like people should be warned. The reviews are mostly positive which is why we picked this hotel. The carpet is disgusting. The elevators smell so bad, like smoke and grossness. The hallways are dark. Nothing has been vacuumed in months.

The property seemed to be greatly understaffed, but all staff appeared to be genuinely working hard and doing the best they could. We had some issues at check-in, first given a room that was clearly not ready (door open, drink on the dresser, bed unmade). We went back to the main building and were given a new room. It looked like it hadn’t been vacuumed in months thick dust on the carpet, dog toy under the couch, syrupy residue in the drawer, we saw some gnats but were hoping that wiping everything down and taking out the left behind trash would help. Our kids were eager to go swim so we swam until about 9:30pm. When we returned to the room gnats were pretty bad. One flew into my drink. The bathroom was also covered in gnats at this time. We tried calling the front desk from our room and my cell phone no answer. We went to the front desk in the morning and asked to be moved. The associate was friendly and accommodated our request for which we were grateful. She let us know we would get a 25% credit back for the inconvenience. The second room was gnat free! Whoo hoo! It appeared to have been vacuumed but was still pretty dirty (ie candy wrapper under the chair), dirty fridge inside and out. I think the staff is doing the best they can with what they have but cleanliness is important to me when traveling. We may try the hotel again but stay in the main building rather than the cottages as we later read that building tends to be cleaner. The breakfast server is was amazing!!!!!

Place has alot of potential but when I checked in toilet was dirty, hotel rugs looked like they hadn't been vacumed. Upon changing rooms the bed had a blotch of blood under matress which is a sign of bed bugs and the phone was dead. The last room we entered was fine but had a musty smell. The pool looked fine but the hot tub has some sort of mold growing on upper tiles that are above the water.

One of the best beds we have ever slept in at a hotel! Breakfast was very good and lots of options. Our room was clean and a lot of space. The small bar/restaurant was nice for times you dont want to go out.

The staff was very nice. The room was not clean. Vents light fixtures covered in dust and grim. Corners/edges of carpet not vacuumed.

Bathroom not very well cleaned -- poop stains under rim of toilet, and a couple long hairs in shower. Also, one desk lamp was broken (and thus unplugged).

Room was clean upon entry and stocked with appropriate items. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable making check in and out easy!

Stayed in the lower level and found it dark and dingy. room was cramped and not in the best condition.

The room felt old and musty, poor lighting. We could smell the chlorine from the pool

This stay was a great experience. I enjoyed the lodge theme. Everything seemed clean and welcoming. The bed was comfortable and the room was spacious.

We stayed in the “Cottages” - large rooms and quiet

Clean room, great atmosphere and excellent staff. Room was clean and no gross “hotel” smell. The only thing negative is we had a jet tub room and we had no hot water to enjoy it. The shower had no hot water either, along with no water pressure.

Old TV, USB ports didn't work, no information about wifi or breakfast location or times upon check-in. Comfortable bed,

Had problem with the tv

Was like stepping back in time -- reminded me of staying in Super 8s as a kid. Dated decor and an itty bitty TV wayyyyyyy in the far corner away from the bed. It was frankly comical.

Loved the Whirlpool in the room. Very spacious. Comfortable beds. But could hear kids running around all morning and people filling up their tubs next door. Otherwise good place to stay! Would come again

The best staff and best experience so good

Made reservations on the way down and was advertised as having availability so we booked it. 11pm finally get there and the very rude front desk lady said that they're overbooked and offered no help getting a refund.

We reserved a suite specifically for our wedding anniversary, which we do each year. When we arrived we were told they overbooked and that suite was not available. We were given a different room at a discount, and the staff was professional and kind in communicating this, but we were significantly disappointed to not have the specific suite we had reserved and planned for.

Service was very poor at this property. I waited almost 40 minutes to check in and staff did not seem concerned with assisting. I would not recommend staying here. After waiting and calling the property multiple times a staff member abruptly came out of a closet with a male. I can only guess what they were doing but it was a very poor experience

The hotel staff provided wonderful service.

Check in was strange. No one was at the desk. When two front desk employees did come, they had locked themselves out of the front desk area. One literally climbed over the desk. Then the two of them kinda of more talked to each other about a disgruntled guest than acknowledging me through check in. They also informed me that they overbooked, so my room was upgraded. My cottage was nice. It had a strange smell, but was nice overall.

Staff was very friendly.. their breakfast had many options to chose from.. the bartender was very friendly and made the best bloody mary... Hallway was very quiet... At checkin we waited 10 mins but receptionist gave us drink tokens for waiting so politely. We will definitely return

I had made a mistake in making my reservation, The receptionist was extremely helpful in getting the situation changed to my satisfaction. She was very friendly throughout the process.

Very nice, clean, comfortable, quiet, and close to resturants. Breakfast was OK, but the attendent was not on the ball. Couldn't find a front desk person either in the morning.

I like that is is close to Bass Pro Shop

Quiet, easy access to interstate highways

Location is great. This place needs a little love. It was pretty clean. Has an inside/ outside pool and a hot tub. Pool is not heated. Pets are welcome and I didn't hear any noise. A few restaurants were within walking distance.

I really enjoy this property. This was my second time staying at this property. The breakfast was good (fruits, cereal, pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage (pork), coffee always available, juices , yogurt, milk etc etc

This place is always good. Had one flaw this stay though. Both Saturday and Sunday they were not ready for the amount of people for breakfast 7 am 20 or more.people waiting no coffee out front what i would.call a smokers paridice just outside the front door. Not enough staff for the amount of people that were there. Sunday thought hey this might be better waited till 8:30 to comedown and they were out of half of the warm items and one lady trying to keep up which she couldnt. Overall great hotel to stay

Loud ass fan running by our room all night. No warm breakfast 2 days in a row they camt keep up. Hotel is starting to get runned down carpets are wrinkling up.

Room was large, bed was comfortable. The hallways and common areas were dirty, looks like the floors needed vacuuming. The breakfast was horrible, very few offerings, broken juice machines and generally untidy. The hotel wasn't very full, so no excuse for this.

Breakfast food was limited & what they had was subpar. No one told us when we were checking in that we had been demoted in room because the cottages were out of order.

Shower worked well. Nice products to use in the bathroom. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. Lived the pizza made in the bar area!!

Clean room, helpful staff and fabulous, full breakfast. Our complimentary VIP Access drink was easy to procure. The property is slightly dated but everything was clean and kept up. Lots of personality! Didn't use the pool but visited the pool area and it looked fun and was in use. You can swim from indoor to outdoor pool. You need to tell them if you want room cleaning done, otherwise they don't clean until you leave. We didn't know this.

Room was decent. The breakfast was horrible. They said that it was bacon eggs but they were out. They had breads and a toaster, cereal with no milk, oatmeal with no hot water. We would have gotten a better meal and stay spending less at the Days Inn. Very disappointed.

So much chlorine in pool it irritated my eyes in my room, carpet is old and loose every where. Breakfast was all cold and bland.

We love the pool. This weekend was busier than we are use to it but still able to enjoy it for the most part. Breakfast was a disappointment the breakfast potatoes were under cooked, the milk was frozen for cereal, would be nice to have a meat selection like bacon or sausage as well.
