Hampton Inn Portage

There were so many problems with this hotel: elevator didn’t work so we used the stairs often including carrying our things down at check out; none of the ice machines worked and none of the vending machines worked either; no housekeeping and we had to use pool towels on the second day for showers; no water pressure and the toilet clogged. This was the worst Hampton Inn I’ve ever been to!

Safe, friendly staffs, right by expressway, plenty of parking, breakfast is ok, room is ok

The room was fine, the staff was friendly, will like to see it after all the renovations. Overall, it is an ok hotel with nothing around it with lots of parking

Elevator was out without warning. We both have had our knees replaced. Way to hard to ho up to the 3rd flood using the stairs. Disabled couple came in after us same problem only he had a walker! They tried putting them on the 2nd floor!

We visited at a rough time, the oven was broken so no hot breakfast, the pool was out of order so no swimming, the ice machine on our floor was out of order and when my husband took 2 ice buckets the house keeper ask him if he thought he should be filling our cooler (literally 2 ice buckets). The fitness center has 3 machines and the treadmill was broken. I did let the front desk know there was mold on the shower curtain and it needed changed. The room was booked and only refundable until 48 hours before our stay. It could be a nice place to stay but I would call first to make sure everything is in working order.

We loved our visit. Breakfast was good and coffee delcicious. Only bad thing was the pool was too dirty to swim. We were looking forward to a pool and didnt get it but staff were very kind and helpful!!

We got a third floor room. The elevator was not working. Thank you for the exercise. The ice machines on the ground floor and 3rd floor didn’t work. So more exercise to the 2nd floor for ice. No shampoo in the bottle But the bed was comfy

Was being remodeled, which we didn’t know when we booked. We could not use the gym or pool. The room was not cleaned properly. We had no toilet paper at all. There was a twin sheet trying to fit on a queen bed. The duvet was not put in the cover. There was food left in the fridge. The closet had nothing to hang clothes, and no where to hang a towel in the bathroom either. This was the worse Hampton I’ve ever stayed at.

The hotel was very dirty, and nasty. No clean towels. The elevator was broken. The first floor smelled like mildew. The pool was absolutely horrible, i wouldnt Let my dogs swim in it. All around worst hotel I’ve stayed in.

Under construction. Room smelled like paint. Drape broken and light shined in from parking lot. Mold in bathroom.

Good experience. Could be cleaner but served our purpose really well. Would come back.

We stayed at the hotel recently and had a mixed experience. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, which we really appreciated. However, we encountered a few issues with the room. There were small stones on the carpet, which made it feel a bit dirty, and the shampoo and shower gel bottles were completely empty, which was inconvenient. With some improvements in room cleanliness and attention to restocking essentials, the stay could have been much better.

Room must have been cleaned very hastily. There were a lot of crumbs missed on the carpet along with a whole bite-sized Oreo and an ear ring. I have a baby who will eat anything he finds on the floor so I did not feel safe letting him crawl around in the room. The worst part was that there was a pair of dirty underwear that did not belong to us on the bathroom floor behind the door. Perhaps they are short-staffed so housekeeping does not have the time to clean thoroughly.

The staff were super rude. Our tub looked like someone defecated in it, the curtains were ripped, the curtain vance was falling off the wall, the linens were stained. And what hotel doesn’t have a roll away cot? We were a party of five that specifically requested a room with a couch and they lied and said they didn’t have rooms with a couch. But the person in line to complain to the staff was there specifically because the linens on their pull out couch were dirty. 0/10 do not recommend.

Pool was green and elevators and common areas could be cleaner

We've stayed at this same hotel on occasion over the years as we visitied the Michigan lake beaches. It has been nicely remodeled. It is a fine place to use as a home base for visiting a Dunes beach

I recently stayed 4 nights in this hotel and it was not worth the cost. The one positive is the location. The negatives: the TV in the room didn’t work, notified staff 3 separate times and it was never addressed. The Wi-Fi signal was so weak I couldn’t stream to my own devices. All of the staff I interacted with acted like I was interrupting their day (the one at the desk when I checked in looked like I woke her up) and were quite rude. The room wasn’t the cleanest and smelled like stale cigarette smoke and had a strong “chemical” odor (melted plastic?), both of which improved with some Lysol spray and Clorox wipes. The parking lot is quite dark and isolated when coming in alone late at night. Overall it wasn’t a good experience and I will find another hotel the next time I’m in Portage

The room was very clean and had recently been renovated. Everything looked great including the bathroom until you used it. The bathtub was weird. The sides of the tub curved in so that the base was about 8 inches wide and just enough to put two feet together on the flat base. I felt that this was very dangerous for moving around the tub for a shower. Maybe it would be perfect if you took a bath. I’d be interested if others felt the same. Also, the sink faucet was too close to the side. The faucet should have been extended further into the beautiful sink. Otherwise the rest of the room was very comfortable. We were on the third floor. Breakfast was great! Convenient to Indiana Dunes NP.

The hotel is under an upgrade. The rooms were nice but had issues what water pressure The breakfast buffet was under average- almost like a quick snack so to speak

I gave this 3 stars only because the staff was accommodating and the room was decent. This hotel is currently a mess undergoing renovations and I question whether it should be accepting guests. The lobby completely ripped up and I needed to carry my pup. No place to hang a towel in the bathroom. No toilet paper holder and no hot water this morning.

WIFI did not work for entire stay. in 2023, being shut off from weather, road conditions, emails is not ideal

The place was nice enough for the price, but it was a bit run down. For instance, you couldn't just close our door. You had to pick up on it, close it, and then turn the dead bolt really hard to get it to lock. Then, we went for breakfast and there was literally no coffee made. I asked about it and the girl nicely apologized and said she was making some, but I waited over an hour and still no coffee was made and the girl had not returned. The clerk wasn't at the desk so I had no coffee that morning. Oh, and the waffle maker was rusted and not fit for cooking waffles. You could cook them, you just couldn't get them to come out of the waffle iron without them tearing into bits because the non-stick had long since worn away.

Easy arrival, quiet and spacious room.

The room was clean and comfortable. The TV was impossible - stations didn't match the guide and some that were supposed to be there weren't. That was irritating.

Shalondra was fabulous, she handled all our needs and questions like a PRO. I’ve stayed at Hampton Inn before and assumed that this one would be as good as our previous experience. Was I ever wrong! I’m sure I will stay at Hampton Inn again in the future, but not this one. This hotel needs to close its doors and remodel the entire building. The place is dirty and worn out. The parking lot is dark, the room’s are dark (we stayed in two different rooms and both were dark - needing bulbs replaced) I offered to replace the bulbs but there were none available. The carpets are dirty, the beds are worn out, the exhaust fan in the bathroom is so loud it hurts. We did not have housekeeping but we wanted clean towels each day, well that never happened. I would have to go to the desk and ask for them and do you believe they never had any, what happened to the towels designated for this room? Twice they gave us pool towels or nothing at all. Breakfast was nothing to brag about either. The selection was poor but what they had was pretty good. The attendant must have had other duties because he wasn’t monitoring the food available. With much breakfast time still available, the attendant complained about preparing more food. I was not the only one complaining by far. I could go on and on but I doubt you’ll do what’s needed to bring this hotel up to snuff. Its obvious that the people who manage this hotel are pinching their penny’s. We won’t be staying here again!

Called ahead to let hotel know we were checking in late night at around 3am. When we arrived a little past 3am no one came to the front counter so we couldn’t check in, having to then leave and book another hotel.

For the price, the value was not there. Water and snacks were not available - vending machines did not work and nothing offered at the service counter. Sought assistance and representative was unable to help and offered no solutions. Not recognized as a Hilton Honors Member. Overall, the facility was just Okay.

Overbooked for king room. Had to settle for lesser room. Bed uncomfortable. Not able to get printed receipt ….. printer broken. Got receipt, but doesn’t show any costs, just that it’s paid and we owe 0. Not helpful.

My husband was not with me and had made my reservation. I had driven 10 hours with a child and dog. The man at the desk would not let me check in. My husband made the reservation but did not travel with me.

Your staff is awesome

Giving 1 star as I tried late night check-in on my reservation and there was no one at front desk. Waited for more than an hour and called 20 times but no one turned up. Now waiting to get refund, hoping to hear from them.

The staff was courteous and the amenities guest friendly. I would consider another stay, on my next trip to Portage.

I actually didn’t make it to my stay so I can’t speak on the hotel or the room, but the manager Melanie was just wonderful and I appreciated her great customer service. Very friendly and helpful staff!

Easy access

Our room was clean but not comfortable. It was difficult to navigate in the room, the toilet did not work (unless I lifted the tank cover), and there was just one overly thick comforter on the bed giving us the options of being either too cold or too hot at night. The property is conveniently located off the highway, but the area around it is not nice at all.

We booked this hotel because it included breakfast but all that was left at 9:15 was oatmeal and waffles.

When booking I was lulled by the higher than average rating. Upon entering over an hour passed the check-in time I was told our room wasn’t ready yet. Not a big deal, we were heading back out anyway. I asked if we could use the restroom and was told yes, however there was no toilet paper due to shipment being late. Not a huge deal, I had wipes, but an annoyance. After checking in we were told breakfast would be in the lobby the next morning. The only thing greeting us that morning was fresh brewed coffee and a sign saying the breakfast nook was closed for maintenance. My husband overheard a worker saying that they were low on staff and that’s why breakfast wasn’t served. Apparently this happened the morning before as well. After reading reviews, it seems this sign (and other like it) have frequently been posted the morning of. So what started off as minor annoyances lead us to spending more money (on a day we try refraining from doing so) and not even being offered a discounted stay or an apology. Not very thrilled with the price we paid and what was received.

Breakfast bar was pretty sparse. Only a few apples but no other fruit. One hot option with the powdered eggs. Waffle maker was not working.

They did not have any breakfast, and the personnel were not interested in helping us with a solution, the excuse was the manager have forgotten to order it and he was not back until two days after. The tiles in the bathroom floor is loose. I can’t recommend this hotel at all.
