Most of the elevators were out of service which caused a wait to go up to your floor and because the elevator was small, if it was filled with guests you’d have to continue to wait your turn. Left to grab dinner and the QR code wouldn’t scan to let me back into parking garage, first time staying at a hotel where you had to pay to park. Rude older black lady at breakfast and it wasn’t included with reservation. That’s a first. Rooms were small and uncomfortable, slightly dirty. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.

Only had 1 elevator in service during our stay. But only a minor inconvenience. No hot tub was a huge letdown. Restersunt menus online differed from actual. Having said all that.... property, staff, view, convinience were all excellent. Will absolutely book here again next spring

We had a nice stay overall. We were surprised that there was no air conditioning on in the main areas of the hotel including the lobby and atrium where the restaurant was. We had to use room service for our meal because we didn’t want to eat and sweat at the same time. It was very much like a sauna with the temps outside near 90 degrees. The air conditioning worked perfectly in the actual hotel room. Just the other areas and hallways were very hot plus the elevators. The pool area was very warm and pool water was a mild warm bath temp a few degrees less would have been more ideal for the summer months in our opinion, so we passed on the pool option considering it was hot everywhere else but in our room.

Right downtown and plenty of dining options within a short walk. Desperately in need of refurbishing. Just worn out. Two of the three elevators out of order. Rough, worn-out carpeting. The linen was clean and the bed comfortable enough. Free Wi-Fi and cable TV.

This hotel is in a great location in downtown South Bend. It was convenient to many things. It is just very run down and dated. We booked it for the pool and hot tub and the hot tub is permanently closed up. The pool room is really dated and not clean. The rooms are equally dated. Perhaps they were clean but it was hard to tell because the tile and shower caulk just need to be redone.

Staff were very friendly and accommodating. The room was clean and so were the common areas for the amount of people staying and inside of the hotel. I would recommend to those in south bend and having an event at the convection center. **please read the website as the pool is closed and had a lot of unhappy ppl screaming at the front desk because they did not take the time to fully read that it is closed during certain days of the week.

The hotel itself was nice, be careful when using the parking garage as it is not very tall. I doubt most large suvs or trucks could fit In it. It is $15 a night. Our room was okay at first. However it was hurriedly cleaned. Underneath the bed was absolutely disgusting. Tons on popcorn, wrappers, and dried rose petals. The vent in the bathroom was pretty dirty, and the fire alarm would randomly flash a bright light for a second throughout the night.

Nothing worse than hairs in the tub and dust everywhere. The bed was at least comfortable but the pillows cases didn’t even fit the pillows. We did get a good laugh at that. Mold on shower curtain , was expecting the hotel to be in little better shape but I have seen worse.

There were many issues with the hotel. I will start with the positives: the location was great and the staff were friendly and helpful. However, I first noticed a strong odor in the hallway of our hotel room. It smelled like a zoo exhibit and there is no other way to describe it. Inside the room, there was a thick layer of dust on every surface, a brown ring inside the toilet bowl, and there was no toilet paper. There were stains on one of the comforters, hairs inside the sheets, and the remote control for the tv was missing. The outlets on the one nightstand did not work either, but thankfully there was a power strip caked in dust under the bed for us to charge our phones. It looked like this room hadn’t been touched in weeks or months. Thankfully we were only there for one night but the quality of our stay was not as expected.

For the price of the hotel it was not worth the stay. Here are some issues. 1) several reviews say how unpleasant the smell is. They’re right. My pregnant wife was almost getting sick walking through the hallways with the smell of sewage/ mold. 2) dirty rooms. Dust and grime everywhere. Stains on bed sheets/ long dark hair on pillows (neither of us have long dark hairs) 3) sink didn’t drain properly. Shower head was gross with little pressure. 4) room was very beat up /water damage etc. The worst was the smell. They have a sewage or severe mold problem. It makes you not want to use the water in ice machine/sink/shower. Horrible horrible smell. When spending over $1000 for a 2 night stay you expect a great experience. This was far from it. Going to book another hotel next time we come for an Irish game.

Currently in the process of renovations, but seems like they're a decade too late. The lobby/atrium was hot and humid (had temporary cooling), tub was nasty, bar/restaurant was closed a few days. Also got charged 3 times on 2 different cards (the desk staff "couldn't get the card to work" the first time. Still charged me though). They got one of those canceled, but it's been 10 days now and i still have a pending charge on my debit card, so the bank is still holding that money. If you're going to South Bend, do yourself a favor and stay at the Courtyard by Marriott or the Aloft, both are within a couple blocks.

I thought this was going to a nice hotel, it's a Hilton. The room was filthy, extremely dilapidated with wallpaper and the AC unit repaired with tape. The AC unit made an awful sould that never stopped. It also never got me below 74 even though I set it at 68. This the worst hotel I've ever stayed in, the room was absolutely run down and disgusting.

The lights didn’t work for the bathroom mirror. The carpet was definitely gross, and the wallpaper was falling off the wall. Spider living in the bathroom. Not the condition I expected for a double tree price. Also the ice machine was broken so you had to go to the floor above or below to get ice.

It was probably great when it was newer but it’s clearly in need of some major renovating. Everything was dusty, windows were dirty, no soap in the atrium bathroom, ice machine on our floor (3) smelled horrible, frequently smelled of cigarette smoke in our hallway and in the atrium. The positive was that all of the staff was very friendly, from the restaurant staff, housekeeping, and front desk.

The staff at this hotel is top notch. But this hotel is so outdated. No USB ports at all, tiny bathrooms, the drapes are broken and let light in from the atrium, and the AC units make a ton of noise. The rooms that overlook the atrium are so loud - the kids playing in the atrium til midnight echo up to the top floor rooms. Good price if you can get past these items.

This is my second time staying here, and even though they’re doing some renovations, it was still very comfortable. I have seen some reviews that say the construction from renovation made their experience terrible—it had no impact on my stay at all. There was no noise, my room was just fine, and all of the amenities were available. I saw a guy painting in the lobby when I was leaving, and that’s it. It was clean and comfortable, the staff is friendly, and the location is convenient.

We had a corner king room, which did seem a little run down. The corner wallpaper was peeling and there were cobwebs. One other downside is the AC turning off sounded like a creaky door, which was a good scare in the middle of the night. other than that, the bed was comfortable, and the room was pretty clean! The shampoo and conditioner were very nice as well.

Hotel is in need of updating. Paid dearly for a view of the river but the room left much to be desired. Tiny bathroom, stained ceiling, table-desk nicked and outdated, carpet old and dirty including someone’s toenail clippings ewe. Average not even 4 star. Would rate at 3 star at best.

The room was just very basic. It wasn’t super dirty but it wasn’t that it was spotless either. The two double beds made the space seem a lot smaller. I had stayed there the year before in a basic king room and it had just a different feel to it. The king room wasn’t spectacular but it felt a lot nicer and it wasn’t because of the bed size. I will stay here again, I will just pick my room better.

First time staying at this Doubletree here in South Bend, and all I can say is that it was a pleasant stay. The staff was very friendly and actually held a conversation with me while checking me in! He even gave me warm chocolate chip cookies for my family and I! The room was clean and the bed was a dream! The view of the river was the cherry on top. Loved the stay so much I booked an extra night. If we needed something, either from housekeeping or front desk, they made sure our needs were satisfied. If we are ever in the South Bend area again, I will book another stay there.

Staff were very rude and not helpful, pool was broke, 2 elevators were broke, and one closed on our daughters arm, breakfast was limited/expensive and not included with room. We could not get through to front desk for extra towels and another blanket. The 3rd shift security was acting very frantically and agitated when we were outside smoking. No cameras on property in stair ways or hallways for protection.

The staff was wonderful! Misleading info about airport shuttle. This makes a difference in choosing a hotel and it needs to be honest. Major renovations made it not very appealing. The staff was amazing though! It is offensive that the price is so drastically inflated during events-so sad!

We stayed at the South Bend Doubletree during football weekend at Notre Dame. The hotel has been freshly remodeled and was extremely convenient with its proximity to the University of Notre Dame. Special recognition to Randall and Brandon at the front desk. Their customer care and patience were outstanding. They are the reason our stay was excellent. The employees who work at the Starbucks in the lobby also did a fantastic job. As expected, following a football game on a Saturday, neighboring rooms could be louder than normal, with fans relaxing after the game.

Beds were clean and comfortable. Staff was fantastic; shuttle driver stayed over a half hour past his normal shift to accommodate and he was friendly and chatty. Front desk staff was knowledgeable of the area, and gave good recommendations for nightlife. Will plan to stay here again, and will recommend to anyone staying in the area. Thanks for a great stay.

The first room was filthy, the second room was better although it was still not as clean as I felt it should have been. The hotel was not very clean either. The floors in the halls need vacuuming. The breakfast was warm ish and way overpriced. 18 bucks to eat what you get at other hotels for free. It was basically eating in a freezer staff members even wearing winter coats inside. The desk staff was good but the hotel isn’t. I’ve stayed at many Marriotts and have never been more disappointed.

restaurant bar in lobby - think it was called Baker's didn't have enough staff. Service was beyond SLOW and stay needs to be trained for customer service. They wore on their shelve how much they didn't have enough help. Hotel is in need of some renovations. Very tired all the way around from common area to hotel rooms

Pool was out of service, $120 dinner for one adult, 3 kids getting chicken tenders, no buffet in the morning because there “wasn’t enough staff” and the wait time for the kitchen was very long so we didn’t even get to use the breakfast voucher we paid for. (There weren’t many customers either). It was an okay stay, but picked it for the pool and breakfast, which was a bust.

Staff were very nice. Location across from the convention was perfect! Property is very, very worn starting with the parking garage that looks like it is falling down to the hotel room. Our room had peeling walls, tape holding parts of the ceiling up, drape that only worked on one side, windows that you could barely see out of, and an air conditioner that looked like it was going to fall from the wall. The breakfast buffet that normally is free at other hotels, was $18 per person. It was all disgustingly cold. After complaining they said they had new burners that weren't working right....but didnt bother warning when we sat down. Would have gone to Starbucks instead.

Honestly, the rooms were not clean and very outdated. The lobby was falling apart and the staff was not very put together and took a long time to address anyone standing at the front desk. The carpet in the rooms and throughout the hotel was nasty. The restaurant that served an $18 breakfast to guests was not very well stocked and didn't have a lot of options or tasty food at all.

Cons:The bathroom has no ventilation, the walls and floor trim were dirty, dust layers. Scarce concession items at the front desk area. Stark and unwelcoming. No signage to elevators and exot to parking lot. night table was broken. Pros: Restaurant bartender is amzing. Food was mediocre only because the food came out semi warm not hot.. So much potential but the price per night is overpriced especially where its located near Notre Dame. My expectations based on the advertisements were extremely high. My disappointment was high

Everything about hotel was great except the food At restaurant. Poor quality and sad service. No water no silverware till we asked and then one of us brought it to the table.
