This hotel is no longer a 4 star hotel. There is construction in the hotel so the advertised lounge and bar no longer exist. The 2 elevators were dirty and not both in use most of the time. The room was not properly cleaned. The staff tried to be helpful but at this time I would not stay in that hotel again.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel on Rivington. The location cannot be beat and the views we had from our room were unbelievable! The only view better was the view from the top floor where we enjoyed a modest continental breakfast each morning. (Nice touch with the breakfast. Basic pastries and yogurt plus coffee which was sooo appreciated as we didn’t have to leave the hotel to grab coffee in the am) the hotel is going through a little bit of a renovation, so the lobby is very tiny and really more of a greeting spot than a true lobby. The size didn’t matter though because there was always a friendly person there to greet and help with any questions. The room was nicely sized and designed for NYC and the bed was comfortable. My only complaint with the room was the lighting in the bathroom. It’s a black tiled and decorated bathroom, but the lighting is minimal which made getting ready a little harder when trying to apply makeup. The location is great and the lower eat side area is bustling end is super energized on weekend nights. Lots of great restaurants and bars nearby and it’s a quick walk to SoHo. We will definitely stay here again.

The elevator didn't work due to lobby renovations and it was challenging to get up and down with workers sharing the lift. Otherwise, the stay was great - very easy to find, walkable neighborhood, great dining and drink options nearby. Loved it!

the location of this hotel is amazing: right in the thick of the lower east side. the staff were super welcoming and personable. when i requested the "quietest room" they delivered (note: the hotel is only a block away from two major streets, bring your ear plugs). the new restaurant in the lobby is AMAZING modern japanese, the staff there super knowledgeable and the food yummy. the only real downside is the condition of the building: this place is about 20 years past a total renovation. from the walls to the windows, every inch needs to be gutted and replaced. what was once a modern building is now a sad, old and shabby one. it saddens me to see the current state. the roof top is closed, the gym doesn't have one machine that works, the infrastructure is in shambles. if you are concerned with cleanliness, this is probably not the hotel for you: not one of the pieces of art, the closets, the windows or walls has been cleaned in ages. other than that, we totally enjoyed our stay!!

The room was spacious so that was a plus but the shower smelled so bad of mold I had to shower very quickly so I wouldn't gag. The gym is a shoebox size that needs major improvements. The weight dock was almost empty with only a few very large weights left, the weight machine was missing parts making it unusable, there were no mats for stretching and the temp was 80 degrees when I went in there. I went to the front desk and they sent in help to have that fixed so that was good. This used to be a really nice hotel but I hadn't been there in years and I guess they are under new ownership and it's also under construction so hopefully things will be improved when it's all done. I doubt I will stay there again.

The property is under renovation, we had to change rooms 3x due to noise or cold air coming through the windows… no restaurants were open.. only the freezing lobby for warm coffee in the mornings… the rooms do not have coffee makers… the fridges were almost warm. Until this place is completed which they said think 2 years I wouldn’t bother staying.. they charge for a 4 star and with only 1 elevator and everything else… I would stay elsewhere. On the positive the staff was very sweet and did their best to help everyone …

The scaffold in front of the hotel made it look bad. Also, there was only one elevator working and it was very small. I’ve read reviews in the past saying it was only one elevator and that was months ago. They need to fix that. Also the hallway is a little dark and the red carpet makes it look prostitute-ish. The toilet wasn’t flushing properly. The two young ladies at the front desk seemed decent, no complaints about the staff. I wouldn’t stay here again. I would stay at another hotel maybe in Times Square that has lounges and rooftop bars in them. Also the balcony was locked. The hotel just didn’t seem fresh. It was clean but not fresh.

A really interesting hotel. Great location in LES. I e-mailed the hotel in advance, asking for a room with a good view as a birthday treat for my partner, and the hotel staff really delivered. A colossal room on the 18th floor, with floor to ceiling windows on two elevations and views across almost the entire skyline. Simply stunning. They even left a handwritten birthday message and complimentary bottle of Prosecco for us to enjoy. A really lovely touch. There’s remodelling work going on in the hotel, and improvements are ongoing. The bar and restaurant are out of commission for now, but the sheer variety of bars and restaurants nearby makes up for it. I love this hotel. Friendly staff, and a really nice laid back atmosphere.

Room was dirty. Floors were covered in literally trash. This has been my favorite hotel forever and it was a very disappointing experience. I asked the front desk if I could change rooms and had to wait in the lobby for over an hour before the managers finished a meeting and the staff was unable to reach the management. I even emailed the property weeks in advance to make sure I had a good room for a special occasion and still had this issue. I was about to kiss my dinner reservation and was unable to wait for management any longer so I booked another hotel and asked for a refund. The manager didn’t come out for an hour to address the situation and by the time she did my other hotel was already booked and I was already getting into a taxi. This is not the hotel rivington I knew and loved. So disappointed

Location was great & room was big for nyc but the bathroom wasn’t cleaned the bar of soup was opened with a hair on it and the vent in the bathroom was covered in dust and was blowing dust everywhere it was gross if they cleaned better it would have been great- just not clean at all

The hotel was very outdated . The room was not like they have in the pictures . Room was dirty , broken furnitures . The walls were cracked , paint peeling . Noise coming heater , and other mechanics kept me awake all night . Plus the walls are very thin can hear everything the other rooms . I have never been so disappointed in a booking .

My room was not as clean as it should have been. The mirror in the bathroom was dirty. A housekeeper came in to clean and then proceeded to tell me that the stuff on the mirror was not going to come off. The next day before I went out for lunch I let front desk know I would like my room cleaned. Later that night I arrived back and my room was the same as I left it. The bathroom sink was filthy and the shower wall had a crack in it

My bathroom hot was dirty and I noticed it from the second I walked in there was spots. I also didn’t have toothpaste in my room which I feel like should be one of the main things in a hotel. The smell was terrible from the elevator to inside my room. The room smelled as if as if there was someone smoking a cigarette inside my room which made me have a huge headache all night. Staff was friendly which is a plus but no, I wouldn’t stay again.

A tale of two cities... Location is great (if you want LES activities and walkability), but the pot smell in the building was pretty intense and unpleasant. City views from the bay windows are awesome, but the wind blowing through windows that don't close properly is a bummer. If you know what you want it could be a fine choice, but don't expect serene luxury.

Hotel was great location but our room was not in good condition. Crack in one of the windows, not functioning lamp, only one nightstand, privacy layer of film on shower was missing so people in room above could see into our shower if they were outside. Tape holding things together. Our refrigerator cabinet was in bad shape. Just could tell the hotel needed some TLC. Only one elevator working.... Friendly staff and great location but really needs some maintenance

Very nice hotel overall. The view from the 16th floor was spectacular. The bed was very comfortable and the room had enough space. Front desk staff was very helpful and friendly. But the response time when something was ordered to the room was not prompt enough. No coffee at the hotel but there are enough coffee shops close by. The area seems a little unsafe but there are enough places to eat or grab a drink close by. I was very satisfied with this stay and would recommend it to anyone.

It is great to stay on the LES but the hotel has seen better days. Our room well sized for the area but showed wear and tear. A light switch did not work. WIFI was spotty. Some staff members were knowledgeable and helpful, others less attentive. For example, our key cards stopped working daily until one staff member changed the setting so that our key card would be valid to the end of our stay.

We had a great stay, but the hotel was a bit underwhelming. 1. Gorgeous view! 2. Comfy bed! 3. Close to many dining options, and subway! 4. Quiet despite location! 5. Awesome staff! But... 6. Poor lighting in room, but especially bathroom. 7. Bathroom was not updated or the cleanest - dim lighting made it difficult to tell whether things were dirty or just old. 8. Towels were very small (smaller than bath size) and only 3 were provided for 2 people. 9. Restaurant/Bar not open.

Not very private, no sheer curtains, you have to close ugly brown curtains so people can’t see in. Over all dated and needs a refresh. We moved to a different room higher up for privacy the front desk informed me they are remodeling lower floors first. I’d come back but only after they remodel. Did not take make photos just the windows sorry!

When I arrived, I was told I had already checked in (yet this was the first time I had walked into the hotel). It turns out they had given someone else my room and the desk's excuse was that the person had my name (which was terrifying because I had recently been hacked). Upon arrival, which took awhile because of this issue, I told them I was in a hurry because I had an event. I got to my room and it was pretty stark. There was no water in the room (they later brought me some), there was no full length mirror (it had been removed from the door), there was no remote to the television...and when I tried to call down to the front desk, no one ever answered. I tried twice before calling the hotel number from my cell phone...and still no answer. I finally gave up and just hoped that my dress/outfit looked okay. A couple of things they DID leave in the room, however, were some balls of hair in the bathroom and some balled up socks in one of the chairs. While the staff WAS very nice, they were pretty much useless and were of zero help when I tried to reach them. Also, the fact that someone with my name checked in ahead of me (I really should have called the police, I guess) and there was no resolution to this, was infuriating.

Great stay, very accommodating staff, excellent location in LES. Would definitely go back again. Spacious room with separate front area perfect for traveling with a baby. Little things like having trash cans in stairwells also helpful. Comfortable bed with gigantic showers (best water pressure in NYC). Front desk super helpful with nice personal touches.

If I could give more stars I would! The staff at Hotel on Rivington made my husband and I feel at home. Each member of the team went above and beyond to make us feel special, feel seen and have a memorable experience. The room was beautiful and clean and loved the concept art in the rooms and hallways. The neighborhood is eclectic and artsy… we found good food and shopping near the hotel. The hotel is also opening up an upscale Japanese restaurant in its hotel, keep an eye out for the end of April, from what their manager noted. No other hotel staff in NYC will give you the same kind Of care and attention than the Rivington staff!! For Travel Reference: We flew into Newark and took the train to Penn Station and it cost about 20 dollars each person. On our way back home we took an Uber and it was about 100 dollars on a Monday. Hope this helps!!!

We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel on Rivington. The location cannot be beat and the views we had from our room were unbelievable! The only view better was the view from the top floor where we enjoyed a modest continental breakfast each morning. (Nice touch with the breakfast. Basic pastries and yogurt plus coffee which was sooo appreciated as we didn’t have to leave the hotel to grab coffee in the am) the hotel is going through a little bit of a renovation, so the lobby is very tiny and really more of a greeting spot than a true lobby. The size didn’t matter though because there was always a friendly person there to greet and help with any questions. The room was nicely sized and designed for NYC and the bed was comfortable. My only complaint with the room was the lighting in the bathroom. It’s a black tiled and decorated bathroom, but the lighting is minimal which made getting ready a little harder when trying to apply makeup. The location is great and the lower eat side area is bustling end is super energized on weekend nights. Lots of great restaurants and bars nearby and it’s a quick walk to SoHo. We will definitely stay here again.

The elevator didn't work due to lobby renovations and it was challenging to get up and down with workers sharing the lift. Otherwise, the stay was great - very easy to find, walkable neighborhood, great dining and drink options nearby. Loved it!

Definitely a hidden gem. The floor to ceiling windows are the main attraction-they’re in the shower too! We always take the subway so for us, the accessibility to that was perfect! If you’re a light sleeper, you might not do well, but it didn’t bother us. Parking was recommended at the delancey/Essex municipal garage. We stayed 3 nights/4days and it was $200 total for parking. I think this is our spot to stay for future trips!

We really enjoyed the 20th floor lounge. We had an early flight into JFK so our room wasn’t ready. We were able to take a nap and rest up there, enjoying the beautiful views and hot chocolate.

The staff at Hotel on Rivington were gracious with all my requests. Though the hotel was under renovation, there were minor kerfluffles. I’d have liked a coffee maker in the room, but there was coffee in a comfortable lounge with a great view, so it worked out! Will consider staying again!

The property is under renovation, we had to change rooms 3x due to noise or cold air coming through the windows… no restaurants were open.. only the freezing lobby for warm coffee in the mornings… the rooms do not have coffee makers… the fridges were almost warm. Until this place is completed which they said think 2 years I wouldn’t bother staying.. they charge for a 4 star and with only 1 elevator and everything else… I would stay elsewhere. On the positive the staff was very sweet and did their best to help everyone …

We didn’t even stay overnight because of how bad the hotel was and the fact there was no hot water. The hotel is being renovated so the bar and food area is now in a old suite with a bathroom within 5 feet of where food is served. The rooms are gross

A really interesting hotel. Great location in LES. I e-mailed the hotel in advance, asking for a room with a good view as a birthday treat for my partner, and the hotel staff really delivered. A colossal room on the 18th floor, with floor to ceiling windows on two elevations and views across almost the entire skyline. Simply stunning. They even left a handwritten birthday message and complimentary bottle of Prosecco for us to enjoy. A really lovely touch. There’s remodelling work going on in the hotel, and improvements are ongoing. The bar and restaurant are out of commission for now, but the sheer variety of bars and restaurants nearby makes up for it. I love this hotel. Friendly staff, and a really nice laid back atmosphere.

I have been to East Village many times don't know how I missed booking at this wonderful hotel - in a very convenient spot with 15-20 walk to edges of East Village and Soho. Staff are all great and super helpful. But the best thing was the ROOM!! OMG so much space and floor to ceilings walls with unobstructed views!! Highly recommend getting a corner with huge walls of glass! Only thing I would say their front elevation could be swankier - couldn't even see where the hotel was - and didn't get to try their breakfast but the cafe looked super cool. And the subway was super convenient and fast to Williamsburg or Times Square. Nice quiet neghborhood with awesome walkable food options!
