The Maritime Hotel

Really nice. Smaller boutique hotel. Staff was great. Valet/indoor parking. Rooms are small but well maintained. Free breakfast in lobby every am. Would stay there again. Just needs to have room service and lobby bar. Love the nautical history/theme.

Beware of the stairs. There are 13 to get to the lobby. There is a small street- to -lobby elevator that is not obvious and must have a “bellboy” to operate. That can be inconvenient. On the plus side the staff is helpful and knowledgeable. The decor is unique, the bathrooms have walk in showers, and there is a dining on the premises.

First time hotel since back in early 2000's. The hotel is still in great condition, the rooms are nicely appointed and water pressure in the city. The staff is friendly and helpful. The only disappointment is they no longer have the outdoor bar area. This was always such a nice place to have a coffee or drink. I hope it returns.

Large room, clean and quiet. Small but decent gym.

Street noisy is intense at night. Never experienced anything like it and I’m originally from NYC. Breakfast is dismal. The gym is on lower level, beside trash rooms that exude a formidable stench. Room was small but well designed. The lobby has a sitting area that is very nice. Location is convenient to theater district by subway. But I don’t think I’d stay here again. Too many negatives.

So I came here with my husband and 5 month year old. We drove so the only requirement was that the hotel had parking. First attempt at parking, my husband asked for the self parking area and they pointed us to a ramp which then just led back out to the street. Ok, we have to do a huge loop in traffic and try again. The second attempt the parking attendant refused to take our car, by this time it was already past time for my baby to eat. So we kept looking for parking garages. All full. I call the hotel and they told us to go back to try to park in their garage again, we are now 40 minutes driving to the garage 2 times, and checking 3 other garages. The last time, we go to the parking garage and they try to refuse our car. We can see many spots empty. Basically it takes 15 minutes of my baby crying, ME crying, and my husband giving the attendant $100 cash tip to take our car. A hotel should never say they have parking when they do not, especially in New York City. This whole thing took an hour, and when you have a baby that is a huge amount of time. Our hopes of going on the ferry to see the Statue of Liberty were ruined by this extra hour of parking. Completely unacceptable. Not to mention the restaurant was booked for a private event so we couldn’t even eat there. Also a full flight of steps with no elevator is a disaster with a stroller for obvious reasons. Do not go here with a baby!!

Pleasantly surprised with hotel and its amenities. I presume this is a hotel limited to the able - front steps up to lobby. Never saw elevator from street level.

Cannot believe there is no bar or restaurant

I was happily surprised with the Maritime Hotel. It was clean, very friendly staff and the location was perfect. There were doormen opening the door and assisting with my luggage. The front desk staff were helpful and friendly. The included continental breakfast has a varied selection from cereal, yogurt, bagels, toast, muffins, danish, granola, fruits, juices, coffee & tea. The parking garage is directly across the street which is a huge plus!! There is a discount there as well if staying at the Maritime. This is my view from the 9th floor. I would definitely stay there again!!!

The standard rooms are very small, I mean very small, but thoughtfully designed. They are fine for a solo stay, especially if you plan to be out and about most of the time. The front desk is great and the service reliable. The free breakfast is more than adequate. The gym is minimal. Chelsea Market us just across Ninth Avenue. What you lose in opulence (lobby, room size) you gain in character and location.

Incredibly clean and wonderful location. Staff was amazing. Love the continental breakfast as well. Love staying at the hotel.

Woke up at 3 AM with bed bug bites all over my body. Front desk manager was not very helpful except to say she will send a report once they have their rooms inspected by a dog. Does that mean they will keep using that room until it gets inspected. What about an apology to me for a miserable night and have to cut my NY trip short because of not sleeping and discomfort.

Loved the location, very close to subway. Service was outstanding. Room was very cute. Small, but lovely decor and perfect for the two of us. The only downside is that it has a slight bad smell. I don't know if it's the carpet or what but our hallway and room definitely had some odor. If they could replace the carpet with some solid surface, I'm sure that would remedy the situation. Once again, the staff and guest service was wonderful! I would consider staying again in the future.

The room felt really stuffy to where the bedding and pillows felt slightly damp.

The location was ideal and the staff were very friendly and kind. Unfortunately the pillows were extremely flat and bed did not have a full set of sheets on it. Also, while waiting for the excel at or on the 5th floor we saw cockroaches running along the floor and elevator door.

Very misleading photos and descriptions on this site -- it's a rip-off. The hotel was cool when it opened several years ago but looks like it has not been refreshed at all since. While my room was clean, hallways smelled musty, rooms not soundproofed, fabrics frayed, windows not soundproofed and lobby too dark. Breakfast? You can find better in a two-bit highway motel in Oklahoma. Ridiculously overpriced. Crazy extra fees and/or taxes. $200 deposit taken on your credit card without your permission. Avoid this place. Shame on all of you. I have complained to "Preferred" Hotels -- a sham association though.

Super clean a comfy - no concerns about this hotel.

Great staff and very clean

The room was comfortable and clean. There were a couple of very small upkeep issues I noticed but not something that couldn't be met. The furniture and bedding were kept up and crisp, neat and clean. I would return for another stay.

The lobby of the hotel is very nice and the staff was friendly and helpful! The bed was not comfortable and we did sleep well because of this. We wish the TV was a smart tv and that we could have accessed our streaming apps.

Very pleasant hotel. Quiet and very central to Chelsea area. Rooms are small but beautifully proportioned. Service is excellent. The only issue is spotty WIFI coverage in the room. Lobby is fine. Great place to stay

The concept of the hotel is great, I did feel like I was on a ship. I just wish the TV was a little modern

Boutique hotel with maritime charm. Room was very small for the price, but typical for New York. Staff went above and beyond for me, atypical for New York :). Shower in room was the type without a door, which is not my favorite, but just a small gripe. Location could not be better, with access to A, C, E lines on the corner at a 2 minute walk. Food next door was superb.

All super excellent very nice vibe Only thing I didn’t like was the pillows as they are flatter than an ihop pancake

I love this hotel - quiet, comfortable and quaint. I love the port hole windows. Location is also wonderful.

This was the quietest hotel experience I have had in NYC. I couldn't hear the street from my room at night and the lobby was such a nice landing pad for us. The lobby staff was very helpful I didn't realize it came with a complimentary breakfast, which easily saved us $80. Just enough to get you out the door with coffee, pastries, yogurt and juices. My two teensy complaints are we didn't get early check-in and the mattress felt like an old, firm spring mattress. But I would definitely recommend this neighborhood and hotel!

Pros: Friendly staff, great location, nice towels. Cons: Terrible room design. Toilet seats that are blocked by the bathroom counter from staying up. Bad lighting that surges with the rattly air-conditioning. Poorly installed rain shower head that is more like having a bucket of water repeatedly dumped on your head. Uncomfortable linens and the worst pillows of any hotel I have been to. Only worth it in a pinch.

Very convenient location for where I needed to be, but I don't know if I would stay again. It was absolutely fine, but the room was TINY and with Tao nightclub next door, I could feel the bass beat in my chest until it closed in the wee hours of the morning, even with earplugs in (they provide them). If I were younger, I might have loved this hotel more!

Perfect customer service at a great price. The hotel is located in a great neighborhood and close to so many wonderful restaurants. Overall my favorite place to stay in New York

The Maritime Hotel has always been a favorite of mine, with its charming nautical theme and excellent location in the heart of Chelsea. I've stayed here dozens of times and have consistently enjoyed the clean, comfortable rooms and the overall ambiance. However, during my most recent stay, I noticed a change in the level of service, particularly with the doorman. It was quite surprising that the doorman didn’t assist with the doors or help with luggage upon arrival. This was unusual and not the kind of service I’ve come to expect from this hotel. I even watched an elderly couple have to carry their luggage up the stairs while two doormen stood right there without offering any help. Despite this hiccup, the front desk staff remained courteous and helpful, and my stay was otherwise pleasant. I’m hoping this was just an off day and look forward to my next visit being up to the usual high standard.

Staff went out of their way to accommodate our needs. Hotel and room were beautiful and functional. Location was perfect for us.

Wonderful boutique hotel in the Chelsea area of Manhattan. Helpful and friendly staff. Nice breakfast offering. Comfortable room, except for somewhat saggy mattress. I would definitely recommend, and visit again in the future.

This is becoming our go-to hotel when we visit our daughter in the Chelsea neighborhood. The staff is outstanding. We did not meet one employee who did not stand out with their friendliness and caring for our well being. We travelled from NH to celebrate my husband’s 75th Birthday. I am very glad we chose to spend it here because they helped create a wonderful memory for us both. THANK YOU

The staff was excellent and amenable to special requests. Easy communication. Would definitely stay again!

Super kind and gave me early check in

Nightmare experience. There was a line of people outside blocking the door to the hotel and when I did push through I was offered drugs by two men at the door. The security guard on the other side of the door didn't care and was looking at his phone. At the front desk the manager also didn't care or express concern. His colleague was eating a big pie of Papa John's pizza at the desk. Total unprofessionalism. The people working here absolutely do not care about the customers well-being.

The staff here are GREAT. Yes, all caps. They’re friendly and helpful and always make you feel welcome. Compared to other hotels, the front desk where you check in could use a glow-up but the staff definitely still shine. Location of this hotel is excellent for getting around, and walkable to so much.

I love the Maritime. It's comfortable, convenient and stylish. Rooms are small but have everything you need, including a good mini-bar/snacks, robes, iron, and a desk. Chelsea market across the street has lots of amazing food options. The ACE and L trains are close. The included breakfast is mediocre. It can be a little noisy from the street at night, but that's nyc.

Great value boutique hotel and ideally located with the subway stop at the end of the street. Right opposite is chelsea market which has plenty of eateries.

I loved the architecture and history of the property. Its location in the heart of Chelsea was great. I was close to the High Line and the Hudson River Parkway. There was a subway stop one block away and plenty of dining options as well.

The location of the Maritime is fantastic, but it is also a wildly busy area and noisy ... if these things are going to bother you, do not stay here. Life happens 24/7 right outside the door! The Chelsea Market is basically across the street, so food and shopping abound. Easy walk to subway stations and we never felt unsafe no matter the hour. Staff was very nice - especially the door/luggage guys. The rooms are cozy in that ship sort of feeling way, the round window was fun, and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was nicely appointed. Not having a coffee machine in the room was the only thing I missed. Really a very pleasant stay!

The Maritime is in a terrific location on the west side, just a few minutes from Chelsea Market, the Whitney Museum, the High Line, Little Island, and all the fun restaurants in the meatpacking district. And at the end of the block is a subway station that takes you everywhere. Could not have been better for us, as we went to a show on Broadway, spent a day in Brooklyn, and toured the newly reopened Frick Museum on the upper east side. A standard room is VERY small, reminding us of steerage on a ship! But the bathroom was stunning and the bed was cozy! Oddly, the public spaces have limited/no windows, again like a ship. But the added amenities were great, the staff was friendly and hugely helpful, and the breakfast was fine. Loved the coffee station and water station.

Great location near the high line, Chelsea, Greenwich village and subway. Friendly staff, nice breakfast and comfortable room.

Couldn't ask for better location - in Chelsea, near The Whitney, great food, drinks and shops. Safe neighborhood. Rooms are well equipped ( even make up mirrors), a bit small but perfect for a single or close couple. Breakfast ok. Inly negative : terrible coffee and no coffee makers in room. Would stay again.

I LOVED the decor and vibe. The staff was super friendly and helpful. My issues were-- 1. there's no usb plugins that are pretty standard in hotels these days. There was one in our room, but it didn't seem to work so my phone died. 2. they say there's "room service" from the restaurant underneath the hotel. It is NOT room service-- it is to go. We were quite dissapointed. ANd it cost an insane amount for being to go food. I mean, $170 for 2 people (we ate a lot, but still) for to go food in tons of plastic with plastic forks. And, it should not be advertised as room service because it's not. I would have gotten food elsewhere if I had known. Also, the continental breakfast was kind of like motel ones I have had. so. to summarize---hotel lovely, food not good.

From the welcoming lobby to the comfy robes in the rooms, everything about this hotel is fab! Loved the nautical shirts that the front desk staff was wearing and the round windows in the hotel hallways and the hotel rooms were so much fun! The continental breakfast was great in the mornings - and I got to read the NY Times paper too! The location is perfect for those who want to try all of the village offerings and it is literally across the street from the Chelsea Market. Was a very short walk down to the water as well for a morning stroll. The people are so nice here and it is so clean! The water pressure in the shower was great too! Definitely coming back!

We were very happy with the location, the staff and the hotel in general. Everyone at the hotel from the doormen to the desk and maintenance were friendly and helpful. The architecture was cool. The morning continental breakfast was very good too. Would return

Rooms are small, but attractive, clean, quiet and comfortable. The location is convenient and have stayed here several times. My only complaint is the continental breakfast. It was terrible. Weak choices, instant oatmeal, HB eggs and mediocre bread and pastries. Unappealing. The water was not even hot for instant oatmeal. The coffee was undrinkable. Free continental breakfast is a great perk and timesaver if quality improved.
