The Inn sits in a beautiful setting right by the Duke Forest and the Al Beuhler walking trail. The room was lovely and clean and the staff was very courteous. The Inn is well laid out with all the amenities anyone would want including an exercise room, a swimming pool, golf shop and very good restaurants. As a bonus, it sits within walking distance of the Duke campus. Couldn't ask for much more.

The only place to stay when in Durham. Beautiful golf course, walking distance to the Duke campus (and sports facilities in particular), fun history - this is an elegant experience. Really enjoyed dining outdoors, looking out over the golf course. Fabulous salmon dish :).

The history of the hotel was outstanding and documented in lovely fashion. We particularly enjoyed the indoor pool and exercise room. The dining experience was excellent, breakfast buffet quite satisfying with personalized omelet. Most of all was the amazingly friendly staff, each and every one.

This hotel is absolutely beautiful. It's comfortable, tastefully decorated, and the pub was a lovely spot to relax and enjoy some delicious food and drinks. Our children spent hours in the pool and hot tub. The location, walkable to Cameron Indoor Stadium, was ideal for attending Duke basketball games. The staff was polite, friendly and professional. We also enjoyed walking the grounds around the hotel. Overall, we had an excellent stay and will certainly be back.

The property used to be a 5-star hotel but it clearly has not been maintained and is in desperate need of major renovations. The room was dated with scratches all over the wooden floor, light bulbs burnt out in the bathroom and cup stains on the nightstands. The elevator cabins were trashed too.

I have stayed at the Washington Duke Hotel many times over the years. Especially as a proud Duke alumna. But it seems like the hotel has not been updated in ages. As shown in my photos, the vents are dirty and filled with black mold. The sprinkler is so damaged that a stink bug crawled through up onto the wall above our bed. The only reason my rating isn’t lower is because the bellmen and staff has always been friendly and accommodating. But that is really all this hotel has going for it these days. A knob was missing on our nightstand and the refrigerator didn’t even work! The walls are thin making the rooms noisy. So when service starts working in nearby rooms the sound carries. Overall this hotel needs an update badly, and simply is not worth the money anymore.

You always know what to expect at the Washington Duke. It is an old fashioned hotel, not particularly modern, but traditional, well maintained, clean and well located for the Duke campus. There are not many good options in Durham, but this one is a generally good choice. Some rooms have better views but they are pretty much the same otherwise.

A first class venue w. first class service. Very attentive & considerate waitstaff in dining venues. Only thing a bit bothersome was the A/C in the room was a bit noisy. Also, the bottom of the bathtub was very slippery. A walk-in shower would be preferable. But overall a very nice stay!

The property is beautiful but seems like it’s ready for refresh, at least our room was. It was fine, but not as nice as we expected. The granite in our bathroom was cracked, the AC was sooo loud and wasn’t great at cooling the room, the fridge was not cold. We had a nice brunch at the restaurant, food was delicious. Staff was friendly. Walkable to Duke campus.

We splurged and stayed at the WD while in town for a Duke bball game. It's an iconic property and I'd recommend staying at least once while visiting Duke. Location is a ten min walk to the west campus and all of the sports facilities. It's an older hotel so some things lacking. The issues I had was the poor communication with the front desk evening shift. I had arranged three times to have our rollaway set up as we were arriving late and of course it wasn't. We had to wait an hr for delivery - midnight. The front desk didn't share any details upon checkin. Nothing about wifi, am coffee or game room. The second night there was no hot water. When I called down to report it she said they were aware and were working on fixing it. I couldn't believe they hadn't notified guests until you called and complained. Virtually allowing guests to jump into a cold shower only to discover no hot water as I did. They eventually sent a text. It wasn't fixed until 1am, so everyone had to go without a shower.. after walking 7 miles around campus and enjoying a sweaty Cameron basketball game. It was fine, but I was surprised management didn't offer any compensation for the inconvenience. The best part of our stay was the housekeeping staff and the breakfast staff. Housekeeping straightens up the room as if you're staying at The Plaza! The buffet is delicious and the chef's and servers make it a wonderful experience. I am happy we tried it, although very pricey. Unfortunately we won't be back.

Was very disappointed with this stay. The staff in the bar area was terrible. We went before dinner & then after for a night cap. We were taking our nephews out and wanted to show them a good evening. Before dinner there was a Duke game on TV and it was crowded. We were able to get a table but the server never came back. We tried to make eye contact to no avail. It was like the staff was actively avoiding clients. After dinner was worse. We thought it might be better since it wasn\'t as busy. We sat down at 11pm. They are open until midnight on Saturday. Our server came by and took the bill from the previous table. Didn\'t make eye contact. Didn\'t say hello. Came back 5 minutes later. We told him we wanted drinks and dessert. He order glasses of wine and looked at the dessert options. He doesn\'t come back for 20 minutes. We tried to get his attention. Nothing. When he finally came back, he says \'the kitchen closed at 11:30pm\'. We said OK. Our nephew wanted the dessert and he was fine but we wanted to show him a really good time. Talked him into getting dessert at the "fancy" hotel his aunt & uncle are staying at. It was horribly disappointing. He\'s in his first year at Duke. We\'ll back many times. We will not be staying at the Washington Duke Inn when we return. I wouldn\'t go if I were you either. Stay a little farther away. You\'ll be happier.

The staff was always friendly, welcoming and supportive in promptly addressing our requests. Joseph, an extraordinary valet, immediately made us feel welcome and reinforced what a great decision we made to stay at the Washington Duke Hotel. Rather than keeping us waiting, he would often jog down to the valet parking area to retrieve our vehicle without delay. He arranged shuttle transportation to and from the Duke Health clinic and saved us the time and aggravation of parking our personal vehicle in a busy and overcrowded parking building. We will stay at this hotel on our next visit and look forward to our interactions with Joseph once again.

The hotel was lovely, welcoming and well equipped . The staff was very helpful from the front desk to the bell desk to the restaurant staff. Everyone was courteous and accommodating . They even provided a shuttle service to the medical facility which was very helpful as my husband wouldn’t have been able to walk from the parking lot. I can’t say enough good things about our stay. The food was great too! Definitely would return to this hotel.
