Rooms good but public areas looking a little tired. Great location, easy to walk to shops and restaurants and the cathedral. Lovely sitting outside our room by the river.

Fabulous room opening onto a lawn directly on the river right across from the cathedral spire. Deicious food and service. Wonderful staff. Great parking.

Nice location with a great view of the Cathedral and river. Ample parking. Faucets were old and dripped. No A/C, but none was needed. Not sure if this location is good for wheelchairs as there are many stairs. But they might have s room or two which would work. But I would call to confirm first. Food is decent but nothing special.

Lovely back area along the river. Unfortunately although rules are no-smoking in rooms, guests are allowed to smoke outside their rooms.. We couldn't leave our window open due to the heavy smokers next door.

Nice place by a river, less than 1km walk to the cathedral. Spacious room and bathroom. Good breakfast. Private parking for free. Would definitely stay again!

The location was perfect for Salisbury Cathedral, over a quaint old toll bridge. The restaurant was fabulous with excellent service. After two attempts, we managed to get a disabled room, which was perfect. Any other room requires at least 2 flights of stairs.

I did not pay for parking when I stayed previously. A rip-off to charge now. Should be included in charge for accommodation.

Definitely not a 4 star hotel In a lovely position and good to be able to park there but the whole place is dated and quite scruffy . Bathroom not too clean and shower old and hard to manipulate . Breakfast was okay but I was disappointed no tea pots a bag in a cup isn’t very 4 star

Good size room and clean

The property could do with some TLC .... strong smell of damp around the corridors, mold and musty. Areas of bedroom need repaint, and attention paid to skirting boards and visible signs of dust around he top of liquid soap and toilet roll holder - i wiped around bot before iused them. However, the beds were comfy, slept well, even though my bed was very squeaky every time i moved. Good selection at breakfast.

Nice location, walking distance to town. Room was large but clearly cleeaning is light touch. Under rim of toilet was filthy and light drumming noise all night

This hotel has a lot of potential…..the location is excellent, both in terms of short walk to heart of Salisbury, & also lovely riverside location. However, I have to agree with many previous comments, that it needs so much updating…..tatty decor, ripped dining chairs with stuffing visibly coming out, broken shower shelf, rickety toilet roll & towel holders, towels with holes in etc etc. the staff on reception were ok but not exactly welcoming, except for the lady who checked us out who was very nice. However the staff in the restaurant were lovely & helpful, & the food was also very good, both breakfast & dinner. I’m sure a lot of the maintenance issues are hindered by lack of funds these days….the hospitality industry is still trying to recover after covid…..however, with this in mind, why were the public area radiators on absolute full blast???…..it was very hot weather for our 2 night stay, & the dining room windows & doors were all opened, yet the radiators were red hot…..such waste! I dint rate this hotel 4 stars, but it could be worth some work put in. I wouldn’t return as it stands presently.

Breakfast was really good. The bath and shower was lovely. The receptionist was very polite kind and helpful. Bed and room really spacious but the curtains were falling off the rails. I stayed 7nights and my room was never cleaned, bins full and overflowing. Beds never changed nor laid. Tea, milk, sugar never replenished. Wet towels never replaced. Overheard noise can be heard from room ceilings.

Sheets were clean but the room & hotel felt extremely tired and unclean. The bottled water in the room was a reused glass mineral water bottle that had been refilled. The bathroom had hairs in the sink and generally felt dirty. The receptionist was very nice and helpful; not so the senior lady in the restaurant.

Characterful hotel close to the city centre. Comfortable and well decorated room and good breakfast. However, there was a very loud party going on under our room which didn't finish until midnight, then there was noise of furniture scraping on the hard floor. Not only was the music so loud that we could clearly identify to songs, but the vibrations went right through us. We were told there was no other room available, nor were we warned when we phoned the hotel the day before that there would be severe disruption the night of our stay. we were given breakfast as compensation, which was good, but even at breakfast there was music playing too loud! Very disappointing stay.

I booked a deluxe room but had to change because this was too noisy due to the old window as a no double glazing which I understand on an old building, through my move to was quieter but it was just a double room and they said that they would give me a refund for the difference which I have not received The room that I was in was dark lights did not work and it was cold. Apparently the heating is on a timer but the heating did not come on

We stayed in the newer part of the property and it was really nice. We had a room that opened on to the terrace and we were so lucky with the weather. Downside for us was the noise in the building - there was an internal door that didn't have door silencers fitted and it seemed like it was slammed closed day and night by staff and residents. There also didn't seem to be much soundproofing between rooms - we heard every step and movement in the room above us, which not only woke us up but made it difficult to feel comfortable and fully relax. I mentioned this to the reception who were lovely but ultimately, they couldn't do anything as they were fully booked. Just something to consider as whilst the hotel, location and staff were great, we were let down by the noise with the hotel.

What shines for this property is its location, which is quite superb. The room we had was adequate, and clean but quite small. I was very disappointed that for the price there was no safe and refrigerator in the room, i would expect to have these facilities in a 4* hotel. They have allso charged for parking since I last stayed there, and this seemed to me to be very penny-pinching. We booked breakfast at a reduced rate of £12 (normal price over £17) each but even at that price, not value for money, in my opinion. Small detailes spoiled it,like barely warm coffee from the machine and the mixed fruit was still in a semi-frozen state. Again, not something I would expect at the price I paid, and not in a 4* hotel.

We stayed in room 11 which backed onto the car park and was quite dark only serviced by a small window. At 5am we were awoken by a noisy delivery dragging several trolleys past our window waking us up. The room itself was comfortable but needed a fresh coat of paint and it was dusty with dirty skirting on the bathroom. All staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. We would stay again, but not in room 11.

The hotel is nice building in a lovely location so the potential is great. We were in a river view ground floor room, with patio, a good start. However our relaxing weekend was not to be. It turns out that the walls are thin, at 6am we could clearly hear the occupant of room 12 on his phone, you could almost hear the replies too. Then the room above had a thin and creaky floor and from 6 am onward we heard every step and movement this made restful sleep an impossibility. We did register the issue but as the room was full with wedding guests we could not be moved. Further more we were only 20ft from the wedding event room which was very noisy until a little after midnight and guests used the lawn directly in front of our window to congregate. I have no issue with the wedding celebration but as we were not part of that group we should have been placed somewhere more remote.

The room was a good size and had a lovely view over the river. It was about a 15 minute walk into town and has a local corner shop if you need anything. The staff are also friendly and helpful. Our only complaint is that there is always a lot of noise from the surrounding rooms. Also as the rooms below us on the ground floor have patios people tend to sit out until late and can be really noisy.

The room size and overall ambiance of the property are nice, but the bedding and decor feel outdated and sparse. I strongly recommend upgrading the mattresses and pillows, as I had one of the worst nights of sleep on the current mattress (room 10).

A really excellent location for exploring Salisbury. Lovely hotel with good quality food. The terrace by the river is gorgeous and we enjoyed drinks with friends outside. Also, took advantage of the local punts which were being offered. We were in one of the older rooms which was very comfortable but was also extremely hot. The windows could not open wide and we couldn't get a through draft going. Being at the front of the hotel, we were also rudely awakened on our first morning by the drinks lorry collecting or delivering beer barrels. It was very noisy and before 8am.

Beautiful setting with view of river amd Cathedral. The room was spacious and clean however a little shabby and dated. The bed was extremely uncomfortable and could do with replacing. It had sunk on both sides where it was so worn. The room was also very noisy. You could hear every word spoken from the room above and every footstep which was not the best at 4am hearing someone use the bathroom. We were also a little annoyed haveing pre booked a table in the restaurant to have been placed in another room to eat which was like sitting in the local village hall. We lived the setting and it could have been so good. Shame.

Great location lovely grounds staff friendly few things wrong with the room dirty finger prints on the back of the door two lights not working extract in the bathroom not working but clean sheets and big bed also the girl in charge of breakfast was brilliant ( not shore I liked the staff smoking by the front door) I would return though.

Stayed for one night to celebrate our anniversary. Cant fault it. Fantastic room, we had a junior suite, large, comfortable, very clean and lovely decoration. Located next to the river which is a beautiful setting. Breakfast was lovely, lots of choice, only thing i would say is there can be a bit of a queue for the hot drinks machine. Its about a 20 min walk into Salisbury. Added bonus of ample free parking. Would highly recommend.

After a pleasant check-in we were pleased to find a very spacious, comfortable room with views over the garden onto the river. Our evening meal was good and the young waiter excellent. However, on retiring for the evening after a very long day we were somewhat alarmed to have to suffer very loud live music for several hours after retiring. There were then loud voices outside our room at 3 am. The breakfast experience was a serious contrast to our evening meal, being staffed by two young people with no social skills or much of an idea how to do their job. The reception staff disappeared outside for a vape break and we then witnessed the restaurant staff busy on mobile phones. Not a good look.

From the outset, staff were not very friendly. When we booked 2 rooms in June, we requested that one room be accessible for my 97 year old mother-in-law who is in a wheelchair. An email was received advising that the rooms were being redecorated and that one would be available. We phoned prior to arriving to confirm this and found out that the accessible room was allocated to me however this was rectified. We checked in at 2pm and requested afternoon tea only to be told that 24 hours notice was required (not stated on their website). Accessible room did not have a stool for the shower -we found one in the other room so, after asking at Reception, moved it to assist my mother-in-law with her washing requirements. This should have been checked beforehand! You cannot use a wheelchair in a shower! The rooms looked very old, tired and in need of repair so not sure what redecoration had taken place, as told beforehand. Whilst daily housekeeping is no longer available at this hotel, the supply of tea, coffee, sugar and toilet rolls should be given each day instead of us having to “beg” reception each time (and then we were only given a handful). Breakfast at the weekend was from 8am however only opened from approximately 8.07am on both days (staff had overslept, we heard). Items were not refilled either so once finished e.g. fruit bowl, not replenished. Same amount charged for each room however there was a big difference in each. Overall, disappointing service.

To be fair, the property is well-located, and I appreciated that they had my room heated and a baby crib set up. However, I was disappointed with the staff and service—definitely not up to standard. I’m not sure if I would return to this hotel.

I had just had surgery and was recovering from this. All the hotel staff went above and beyond to make sure my wife and I had the most wonderful stay. Nothing was too much if we requested anything. Thank you all from our hearts. We shall be back soon. David and Kate Winter

Staff were extremely friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Room was easy to find and was comfortable and peaceful. Service in the restaurant was excellent, we were not hurried but neither were we left waiting. Well done

Nice hotel, nice location.

This is an opportunity to stay in a gorgeous historic property on the River Avon. The views from every room are stunning. You cannot beat the convenience of walking to ever place you need to visit.

Our room was good not exceptional.it was,clean and had the usual facilities. What was,exceptional eas the view of river Avon and the Salisbury cathedral.

Dining experience. Poor menu choice. No breakfast service before 8.00 at weekends does not accord with clients making early departure

I only stayed for two nights the room was comfortable and clean with good facilities, tea coffee and even hot chocolate was provided although only one sachet for a twin room ? I didn’t dine at the hotel but was disappointed to be told that I had missed breakfast, the room info stated weekend breakfast was served until 10:30 but on my arrival at the dining room at 10:00 I was told it had finished? My one other gripe would be that when I booked my stay it stated that parking was free but on arrival I was told there would be a £5 per night charge, had I known this I would probably have chosen another hotel.

An excellent base for many attractions. Nice room perhaps in need of paiinting but well appointed. Lovely restaurant and great breakfast. They do need to prepare for busy periods and cater accordingly. Nice staff. Very helpful.

Room was lovely and big, great size bed which was very comfortable. Nicely decorated however a lot of the decor was a bit tired and could do with a touch up. The unit in the bathroom was peeling in places and you could see where the light fitting has been moved in the ceiling, could just do with a little decorating. Staff were lovely, breakfast was good, although eggs ordered took a long time to come, and the dining room wasn't particularly busy.

Lovely hotel in very convenient and beautiful riverside setting. A few minutes walk through Cathedral Close (gates open until 11pm) to picturesque City Centre. Comfortable beds, plentiful good quality breakfast buffet with attentive staff. The only downside is the decor is very tired, including several broken boarded up windows in public spaces that await replacement

Great hotel; great location great food. The restaurant overlooks the Avon River and is walking distance to the cathedral.

From the outside it had that olde-english look but was well updated inside. Our room was big and had a sofa bed for our kiddo. Bathroom had towel warmers. Breakfast was fantastic along with great coffee. Also had dinner in the restaurant and it was very good.

The hotel was set beside the River Avon. The view was very pretty and quiet. A boating service operated independently from the hotel. An evening boat ride in the summer sunshine was excellent. The evening menu was varied and the food was delicious. The hotel is in need of an update in some areas but I think this is reflected in the price. Salisbury Cathedral is a 10 minute walk away. We enjoyed our visit. The location is perfect. Would recommend.

Great location for walking into Salisbury, plenty of parking and a good size room with lots of storage space and a proper wardrobe. We also had a great view across the river. Check-in was a little confused with (presumably) a trainee receptionist. Breakfast on Saturday was a long-drawn out affair as everything kept running out - we had to wait a long time for hot water to make our own tea and then another long wait for the scrambled eggs to be replenished. The toasting machine was also not working correctly and didn't cook the bread at all or burnt it. The two members of staff on duty seemed to stand around a lot rather than actually trying to make the situation better.
