A good hotel, clean and well maintained with very pleasant staff. Room was spacious with tea/coffee and water in the room. No evening dining, but plenty of options within 5 minutes. There is a bar. The self serve Breakfast was really good. The only downside is the car park is quite small and can only accommodate a few cars

Very expensive stay and disappointed on arrival to find the guest parking was liited to 8 cars! This should be clearly stated as the listing was deceptive. The hotel is old and tired - there were no unused electrical sockets available, small room, no view, the corridor lighting shone under the door and the air con was noisy so disrupted sleep. Good breakfast is the only positive from this overpriced break.

Efficient reception service and very comfortable stay . Complementary drink from the bar on arrival was a nice touch . Very small car park but a multi storey car park is available a few minutes walk away at a minimum price for an overnight stay . Breakfast seemed expensive at £15 but there are plenty of options on the doorstep

The hotel is well located for walking to the sites of Salisbury. There is a small parking lot that is a bonus if you can get a spot. There is no elevator so if you have mobility issues (or a lot of luggage) I suggest coordinating with reception before arrival. We thought the breakfast staff were particularly hospitable.

The staff and facilities were excellent, as was the breakfast. The Hotel was well appointed, clean, well organised and had character. On the downside, parking is limited and awkward in manoeuvring; only about 8 or 9 usable spaces, then it’s off to an expensive public car park. There is a nightclub opposite so on our Friday and Saturday night stay, we were able to enjoy their clients’ revelry until the early hours from our front-facing room. The room itself was good, but lacked storage space for unpacking and, with no lift available, the 36 stairs and a confusing maze of corridors, steps and fire-doors made for a difficult arrival and departure with luggage. In the event of a fire, I’m not sure we’d find evacuation that easy. So, a very nice hotel with excellent staff but not sure we’d return for the negative aspects.

The staff were very friendly and explained everything very well. We spent one night there and it was lovely. The hotel location it's great, close to the market, Salisbury Cathedral, pubs and restaurants. Carpark spaces are limited but we arrive at the right time and managed to charge our EV at a reasonable price.

Parking is an issue. Ad says Parking included but there are only 8 spots for 37 units, accessed on a first come first serve basis. Otherwise you have to pay to park on the street or at a car park 10 minutes away. An hour after we arrived, we got a parking ticket. Need to update your ad about the parking situation. It should say “limited parking available”.

I had a very solid stay here. The staff were welcoming and efficient, and my single room was spotless and comfortable. The windows have excellent soundproofing; while I can't confirm if it muffles the weekend noise from the nightclub across the road, it was quiet during my weeknight stay. All this for £52 per night is a great value.

The hotel was amazing considering it was built in the 1400's. The staff was very nice. The room was decent although the bed was a little too soft for me. The welcome drink of 50% off was a nice surprise. The walls were a little thin, and someone above me was clomping around. The biggest problem that I had was the bed bugs. I got bitten the first night but wasn't sure exactly what was going on. The second night left no doubt. I went down to reception to ask for another room, but they were fully booked. My friend and I had to stay up all night and pay extra to catch an earlier train, ruining our day out in Salisbury. In the morning, the woman at reception said that they would be refunding my money. I hope that everything gets straightened out as, in general, it's a nice place to stay.

Great location, easy to walk around Salisbury. Parking in road was chargeable during day. Good advice from reception. Breakfast was decent. Showers were great. Rooms a bit squashed into an old building. So plenty of steps and a maze of corridors! Overall really good.

Lovely room, comfortable, clean, quiet. Friendly and helpful staff. Good location very close to town, there's a bar opposite the hotel but no noise affected. No parking was available but we were lucky to find one at the front of the hotel (street parking).

Lovely staff, very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good. Position of hotel is great for exploring Salisbury and very quiet at night. The only thing that let it down for me was the size of our room. I had to clamber over the bed to get in and out as the bed was up against the dressing table. The restaurant looked amazing. Unfortunately, we didn’t even try it because of how bad the room was. Uncomfortable bed. Floors uneven and creaky. If you’re remodeling an old place, either go all in on making it “vintage” or go all in modernizing. Desk personnel were not very friendly or helpful. Did have parking but tight and filled up quickly. Walkable to the Cathedral and other sights.

We could hear the two people in the next room talking (not shouting, not being loud) clearly enough to have joined their conversation. Yes it's an old building (which they do mention on their website) but it is near impossible to get a good night's sleep because of the very poor soundproofing (which they accept but don't put on their website)

The reception staff are wonderful. Even going out of her way to call me when a car parking space became available so i could move my car off the road. I wish i had got the lady's name as she deserves a special mention.

The staff was terrific. They made sure we got a taxi upon leaving and started breakfast early so we could eat before heading to the station. The room was very nice and well set up. Throughly enjoyed our stay.

Friendly, helpful staff who addressed an issue with a slamming fire door in a quick and efficient manner. It’s also a nice gesture that they offer a complimentary drink in the hotel bar. Rooms were nice with a personal touch. Will definitely stay here again if we are ever in Salisbury.

An ok stay , receptionist could at least look up from her phone and acknowledge customers when they walk into the hotel . Parking is limited but rooms are comfortable and well soundproofed .

Stayed 3 nights in November 2023 while I was visiting my brother and sister-in-law. Couldn’t fault the hotel for its cleanliness, nice and quiet and very convenient for the railway station, town centre and Salisbury Cathedral. But the best thing was undoubtedly the friendliness of the staff. Don’t think I’ve ever felt so welcomed in any hotel I’ve ever stayed at. Will definitely stay there again the next time I am in Salisbury.

Good location for exploring Salisbury. Parking was a great bonus for the location. Staff were all helpful and friendly, especially the staff doing breakfast. Breakfast was fresh with a great selection. Our room was clean and well stocked.

Lovely immaculately clean room, we requested for a quiet room and that’s what we got. The only niggles, we’re that there was only a limited selection of tea and coffee and the young girl on reception when we booked in was unfriendly and not very helpful.

The front facade is deceiving as it hides a delightful quaint country escape, run by a fantastic family and excellent staff. The room was recently updated, quite a good size, and very comfortable. Firm comfy mattress, welcome drink at the bar, walking distance to the heart of Salisbury with included “first come first served” parking made this a very delightful visit for me. I would stay here again if in the area.

Firm comfy mattress, welcome drink at the bar, walking distance to the heart of Salisbury with included “first come first served” parking made this a very delightful visit for me. I would stay here again if in the area.

It seems to be a group of old buildings joined together so hallways and stairs go in all different directions. It was a bit of a challenge finding our way to our room, but great fun at the same time. The people we've talked to have been friendly and helpful. It’s easy walking distance to the cathedral, shopping and parks.

The layout of the Hotel is rather confusing, but that is understandable considering the cacophony of the buildings it is housed in. Pleasant and welcoming staff and an excellent location to walk around Salisbury.

It is in an excellent location for sightseeing in Salisbury. The room was large bright and comfortable although we could have used a place to set our luggage. It is an historic building which makes it quirky and a little rambling to navigate and the lack of an elevator makes handling luggage a challenge. That staff is upbeat and very helpful. The restaurant next door is terrific.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights visiting Stonehenge and Salisbury Cathedral, and highly recommend! It's very comfortable, and getting up very early in the morning to drive to Stonehenge we met another group in the lobby about to do the exact same thing! It's a short walk to the Cathedral, and there's plenty of food options nearby.

A good hotel, clean and well maintained with very pleasant staff. Room was spacious with tea/coffee and water in the room. No evening dining, but plenty of options within 5 minutes. There is a bar. The self serve Breakfast was really good. The only downside is the car park is quite small and can only accommodate a few cars

I chose the hotel because of the location, which is fairly central, and because it said it had free parking. It does not and I had to use a nearby multi storey at an added cost of about £20. The decor is a little tired and shabby. The breakfast was disappointing, with little choice for a buffet. I would not recommend the hotel.

This is our 4th stay at the Merchant House and it is a lovely welcoming hotel. The staff are friendly and attentive and the rooms are great. All a good size and beautifully decorated and furnished. The bar is a bonus and the free welcome drink is a nice touch. The breakfast is always delicious with a very good chef who likes to check that the guest is completely happy. It is also only a short walk into the city. We have always been able to park on site for free but there is also a car park across the road, should you need it. All in all a great place to stay.
