Hotel Dechampaigne

It is a very old hotel, and the rooms are quite small. It happened to be hot at the time we visited and the centrally controlled air conditioning was inadequate, particularly at night. The staff were accommodating, but not particularly interested in doing anything to enhance our stay. The location was the only really selling point.

As good as it gets for a 3 star hotel in Paris. Well-located, but a bit noisy because of proximity of Rue de Rivoli. Room had a fridge and a safe, which is unusual for a 3-star hotel. Staff very nice.

The location is so convenient! Although it is an older hotel, the tiny elevator does the job perfectly! The free luggage storage service gives you more flexibility on the day you check out, which is great! The buffet-style breakfast is also excellent,it gives you enough energy to walk for long hours in the Louvre. The mattress is great and comfortable too. The staff are all friendly, and a special thanks to George at the front desk. He is so nice and willing to help us call a cab and load luggage into the car on a rainy day.

The positives were that it's location was very good for walking the streets of Paris. Both the Louvre and Notre Dame were close, the Seine only a block away and there were dozens of Cafes and restaurants within a short stroll from the hotel. Metro stations were also easy to reach and covered all of the city. Negative was the condition of the room. We knew that the hotel was an old building, and had booked it for exactly that quality, but the TV faced the entry door and could not be turned in any other direction, the toilet seat was missing a support and moved, it was also chipped in three places. The shower was tiny, again due to the age of the hotel and the room available to actually position a shower, but the seals kept falling off and the floor got completely soaked every time we used it. Also a fair amount of the woodwork was scratched, chipped and generally looked beaten, an easy fix. The in-room safe also did not work as orange lights just flashed whenever you tried to set it, and the printed instructions were inaccurate. The front desk team was pretty friendly and helpful and the maid was pleasant.

Short stay @ our fav city & our long-time fav Parisian hotel. Location & hotel staff are awesome. Only drawback to this particular stay was the lack of consistent internet connection. Frustrating as we had German and Polish family health concerns that we needed to keep abreast of.

호텔주변은 조용하고 슈퍼마켓도 바로 있고 슈퍼마켓쪽에 메트로 있어요. 완전 최고의 교통위치이지만 오래된 파리의 호텔 첫날 엘레베이터 망가져 1층까지 계단으로 짐을 옮겨야했지만 직원이 들어줌~ 깔끔하게 정리해놓고 그들만의색깔이 분명한곳! 첵아웃땐 엘레베이터 되서 탔는데 두사람과 짐 세개면 꽉찹니다. 위치가 좋아서 리옹역까지 4정거장 몽마르트까지도 직행! Good!

Overall we had a great experience. The most important thing about this hotel is location! The rooms are good size considering its location. When we checked in, we got a room on the highest floor (6th). We thought the view must be nice but the room did not have any view. Also it had a bathtub with no shower which was a pain. So we asked for another room were we could take shower! The staff were nice and friendly, they said we could switch our room the next day. So we got a room on the 1st floor on day 2 that had a tiny but nice shower. It was early in Oct and the room was still hot but the AC did not work. When we enquired, they said they turn off the hotel AC in October and that is why AC does not work. They gave us a small fan which helped a bit. The weather got better the following days and we had no need for it. I recommend this hotel if you care about location.

Good location--easy to and from the airport. i found the bed to be uncomfortable--it was just 2 twin frames pushed together. My room was clean, but very worn. it looks like some rooms are being renovated, so I did have to deal with the noise from this during the day when I was in my room. Staff was helpful, and they have umbrellas for use if needed, which I did.

Rooms didn’t look like advertised, not sure if it even was the room I booked. Was supposed to get complimentary charger, newspaper and map of Paris. Got none of that. The last night in the hotel and the next day there was no hot water in the rooms due to renovations. Credit of $30 is a bit measly when you fly out on an 11 hour flight and can’t have a shower before hand…

The hotel has its own character. Beds were comfortable. Bathroom and shower clean. Showers are on smaller side. Great location to the Louvre Museum and subway.

We had so sit and wait for two hours past check in time for the room to be ready. They kept telling us it would be ready in 15 more minutes. The carpet in the lobby needed to be vacuumed. The stairs were so filthy and stained I was shocked. They clearly had not been vacuumed in a long time. But the worst part was our room. There was black mold on the ceiling and around the vent in the bathroom. The room reeked of vinegar. There was fabric wallpaper on the walls. There were little dark spots all over the wall around the headboard that looked like mold. We opened the windows to air out the room. Outside of one window is a small landing full of cigarette butts. Out of the other there was a rod that is a pigeon perch. There was an inch of bird crap there. I was afraid to leave that window open. There were many dark stains on the walls, like splattered coffee in several areas. The beds have mattresses and two mattress toppers stacked on top of the mattresses. The hotel is in a narrow back alley. The neighborhood did not feel safe. After taking many photos and calling the company we booked through, we checked out and fled to a clean hotel in a safe area.

Hôtel was near as a pin, clean, and well decorated. The staff was kind and courteous.

A little dirty in the bathroom with black stuff all over bathroom ceeling. Walls are a bit thin so can hear others. But honestly overall pretty good and would go back

Staff was lovely, no complaints whatsoever. Common areas (lobby, breakfast room) were nicely decorated and clean. The breakfast was ample and appealingly presented. The bed was comfortable and the linens were quality. Otherwise, however, my room was a disappointment. There was a wooden surround around the bathroom vanity which was rotting from water damage; the decor clashed horribly (red, white and blue tile vs. dainty pink floral wallpaper); no way to adjust the too-hot temperature other than ask staff to do it; in-room coffee but no coffee granules provided on three of the four days; inefficient hairdryer. I went out and bought a decent hairdryer and a jar of instant coffee. Also no facecloths (which I know is common) but I forgot to bring one, so had to go buy that too. Convenient area, but the hotel is situated down a rather dark and shabby side street.

Unique, clean, quiet, lovely room.

The location of the hotel is excellent right by Notre Dame and the Louvre, and the lobby is adorable and charming. The room was much less so, the most pressing concern was spots of black mold on the ceiling in the shower, but generally the carpet was threadbare, the desk in the room near falling apart and the room had a shabby feel about it. We arrived very late so after a very thorough search for bugs (didn't find any!) we spent one of our planned two nights here. The next day my wife and I moved to a hotel nearer to the Eiffel Tower, and I'm thankful we did as the cleanliness and comfort were leagues better. This hotel has an amazing location, and could be great, but they need to clean their act up.

This was a small negative experience. Apart from that, the room was quite spacious to accommodate 4. The room was quite nice the way it was setup and had an old-world charm to it with old wooden furniture (bar table, bar cabinet and the study table). The breakfast spread was quite minimal and one would expect to have a bigger spread in such a hotel. The dining area was also quite small and the chairs were arranged such that it was difficult to move in and out without causing a discomfort to the person sitting behind you. The shower area was quite tiny and could have been better to have a bigger shower area. The location of this hotel is amazing as there are so many places around it at walking distance. I would surely recommend this hotel for someone visiting Paris.

I am 5’5”. My head kept hitting the ceiling in our bathroom. I’m actually injured. The hotel looks nice and the staff is excellent but if you end up on the 6th floor the rooms have been converted from an attic. The ceilings are low and there was no room to put our bags down. Literally. We had to stack them on a small table when we were in the bed.

We booked 3 rooms for three nights for a group of five, partly for the wonderfully central location and price but also for the historic nature of the hotel, which we all loved. The Superior Double room was beautiful but unfortunately faced a building currently being renovated with workmen starting at 8.00am. One of the two Classic Double rooms had the same problem but the other faced a light well. We didn't have the breakfast so can't comment on that. There are plenty of nice cafes and bars close by. Would certainly return once work on the building opposite is completed and hope the work planned on the hotel itself will preserve the quirky romantic charm which makes it so special.

Great hotel in the centre of Paris. Location was ideal for the metro and some lovely places to eat. No noise from the area. Room was a decent size for 3.

Stayed in a large family room - nice size with air conditioning on the 4th floor. Great location.

We stayed in the superior room. It was very nice, clean, good atmosphere with classical decor and medieval look. Room was large enough by Paris standards and very high ceilings makes a big difference. Has elevator albeit very small. Close to shops, restaurants, Metro and Seine. Would stay here again.

A lovely hotel, our fifth floor room was tiny with a magical little terrace overlooking parisian rooftops.

Spent a week at the hotel. What I liked: location - walkable to many major attractions in Paris Centre. 30 seconds from the metro Chatelet. The room was charming. I liked the toile on the wall and the exposed wooden beams. The room was exceedingly clean and housekeeping tidied every day and changed the pillow linens. The breakfast was copious though I grew tired of the same offering after a week. Finally the staff was very friendly and helpful. The weak points: the room that I had is in need of some TLC. While clean , it was run down and shabby and could benefit from a ‘cure’. Despite being on a very small side street, it was very noisy. It seemed to have garbage removal every single day along with other service trucks throughout the week. The construction work on the building next door starts early and lasts all day. Glad we were out and about most of the day to miss it. You can often hear people talking or listening to the television in neighbouring rooms. Finally, the room does not have individualized climate control. Throughout most of the time we were there the heat was on. Some nights we had to sleep with the window open as it reached 25C. Would I stay there again? Yes. It is good value. It is a great location. The neighbourhood appears quite safe and in proximity to services, and sites of interest. It is a three-star hotel after all and not the Ritz. If you are expecting five-star accommodation, look elsewhere. Thank you for the visit!

It’s the obviously not a usual American hotel chain. It’s a cozy hotel with elevator. It’s perfect location and quiet. In 30 minutes we visited several famous locations while walking ( we weren’t expecting so many and so close to the hotel). Room was very small and cozy especially for American standards. Bathroom was clean. Very unique design, very French. Our room had adjoining balcony with other room with little table and chairs. Hotel organized for us pick up from airport and to back to airport which was very convenient especially when we don’t speak French language. Breakfast was available. We did enjoy the stay.

Granted, hotel rooms in Europe are small but this place was built in mid eval times. Nothing is plum. The shower is microscopic. My bed slanted and feet extended over the edge. It is convenient but not worthy of such a high recommendation from Expedia without better warning of the condition of this place. The bed wasn’t horse hair, luckily but it is that old and of that era..

The property was unique and was close to many of the sights. However, it was not in a great location and our travel party had a security incident. They offer physical keys and you must lock the door behind you. After one of our visitors left without fully locking the door, someone outside of the hotel came in and stole electronics. The hotel manager was not very helpful and simply told us to take it up with the police and it was our fault for not locking the door. I don't necessarily disagree with them, but simply stating the situation so folks understand the area and the risks related to staying at this property.

Loved loved loved this hotel. Very “French” decor. All staff were friendly and helpful chose it as it was in our desired area our desired place and has a balcony. We very much enjoyed the end of the day with a cognac on the balcony.

Beyond the rather limited elevator that can only be used by two people at a time, we had a horrible buzzing noise in our room that would go off for 5 seconds every minute when running the air conditioning. We told staff; they didn't do anything to fix it during the stay. We finally got more traction when checking out. We had a weird security incident. Someone entered one of our rooms, open a window and leave the door unlocked. It wasn't housekeeping. Nothing was taken. We don't know what happened there, but it was weird. The location is pretty convenient for walking to the Louvre and Notre Dame. It's also right next to a very large underground train station (Chatalet) - use exit 13 or 14 to get there. You may spend 11 minutes walking around underground, and possibly paying twice to get through security though. One note about the immediate area around the hotel - it did smell like an open sewer because of people peeing in the streets. Also, we got pickpocketed at the train station. WiFi worked but the internet was very slow. Breakfast was ok but perhaps not worth the money given the number of restaurants and bakeries and cafes nearby. This wasn't horrible, but it was really expensive for a place with two red flags (security incident unfixed noise).

Good hotel, but outstanding customer service.Everyone at the reception desk were welcoming and invested in making sure you enjoy your stay. Would come again.

Rooms and showers are too small, there are no power points for devices (we had to unplug a lamp to charge our phones). Sudenly the alarm started beeping (and were not informed why) we had to leave immediately as that was too noisy. But the worse was we stayed almos 24 hours with no WiFi. A tourist cannot survive with no WiFi. Some staff are friendly, some others indifferent.

It was in the central Paris location, but I didn’t feel that safe because homelessness was in front of the hotel.

The Grand Hotel Dechampaigne is a nice property located in a quiet neighborhood. It is easy to find with GPS and within walking distance of the Seine, Notre Dame, Ile de la Cite, Centre Pompidou, Louvre, Musee d'Orsay, and Tuilleries. There is a metro stop nearby. Tour Eiffel was a 5-10 minute Uber ride (you can also use the Metro). The hotel staff were friendly, responsive, and helpful. Breakfast was very good, offering a few hot options, lots of other traditional breakfast items, and an espresso/coffee machine. The rooms are on par with other hotels of this size. The room was clean and comfortable. I will definitely keep this hotel on my short list for future trips to Paris.

Solid 3-star property within easy walking distance of all the major sights. Rooms are small, clean and quaint. Was a little hard to find off a main street, and some places around it felt abandoned.

Cute little hotel! needs a little updating, not in the most obvious spot, and there are a few sketchy alleyways around the entrance. that being said, however, i did have a great experience and would recommend this hotel to others.

This is a basic, charming hotel with an excellent staff. Good value for the location. I'd recommend a stay if you are a budget-conscious traveler who plans on seeing the major sights in Paris.

Breakfast was extremely weak. Our room was very run down room. Toilets were not cleaned the 2nd day of our stay. Staff was good. Rooms in the pic and actual room were very different.

Perfect location near restaurants, shopping, sightseeing, and train station. Charming and clean hotel with Wi-Fi and a wonderful breakfast. We loved the vibe of staying in an older building decorated in French period fitting the property. George at the reception desk was helpful and friendly. We are already planning our next stay!

From checking in to checking out we had friendly service. Add the breakfast to your reservation as it is a perfect start to the day. Area has some good cafes and dining. With in walking distance to Louvre

Our room wasn’t as pretty as the pictures, but it was okay. We had a room with 3 single beds for 3 people, it was small, but enough, we didn’t really spend that much time there. The location makes it all worth it. Louvre and Notre Dame are within walking distance, and the metro station Chatelet is right around the corner, and it’s like a hub to many metro lines, you can literally go anywhere from there. The breakfast was good and convenient. 15 euro seemed a lot at first, but when we tried eating somewhere else it was even more.

Top Lage! Besser würde es nicht gehen! Neben allem was man braucht und sehen will! Das Zimmer war sauber und minimalistisch für diesen Preis. Das Frühstück ist es nicht wert. Wir hatten sehr kalt im Zimmer… aber die Lage machte alles wett!

Excellent location to visit Paris and good breakfast, close to shop and restaurant, bedrooms are OK but a bit run down: water leakages from the ceiling, support for toothbrush and towel not properly fixed (some rehabilitation might be required) but it does not stop you to enjoy the hotel

The beds were comfy, breakfast tasty and there was plenty of it, our bedroom was a good size and only a short walk to restaurants and a metro station. The room had a musty smell and in places it was dusty. We enjoyed our stay
