We stayed in Rothesay room. The room is in lower ground so no views but it is quiet, clean and spacious. Location of the hotel is great. No power outlet around vanity area. Good overall stay.

Overall the hotel, in it's great restored old structure is a great place. However there are several rooms which are extraordinarily small--far too small for two people and really too small for a single person. The bathroom in particular is exceedingly small. The sink was chipped probably from someone just unbuckling their belt. There was no access to one side of the bed--not a problem with a single person obviously. All the amenities like the coffee maker barely fit in the space they are placed. All this is to say, I do not think the smallest rooms are even worth staying in...BUT the rooms which are larger would undoubtedly be great. Unfortunately when we were visiting only the small rooms were available.

Excellent location with great restaurants and cafes and a good walk to the castle, the royal mile etc. The downside was the tiny bathroom and small room which was a tight squeeze with two large suitcases. The room itself was very stuffy so we slept both nights with the window as as open as we could have it. I can't imagine what it might be like in summer.

I didn't realise when I booked this place that it was unstaffed with no reception or other facilities you'd expect for that price. No problem I thought, I've stayed in such places before. Except when we arrived, it turned out our room was right opposite the main front door and right next to the stairs with zero soundproofing so we heard everyone noisily coming in at night. We heard the people above us doing bathroom things and every time their toilet flush went it was like it was right next to us - it's not even that loud in my house. Our only window looked out over a residential street and a lane with people frequently walking and up and down on our level, so there was no privacy. Blinds had to be kept closed so in darkness. There was zero storage for our belongings or luggage in the room and the bathroom was so tiny you could barely turn around. However the shower was good, the towels were nice also. The bed was fairly comfy and the decor was nice. But when we got up the next day, the main front door was wide open so anyone could just walk in.
