Hyatt House Chicago Medical/University District

Beautiful hotel. Nice rooms. Good breakfast. Bad parking setup. Foolish extra charge for outside parking. Horrible access into building after hours from parking lot. Had to walk around entire building outside at midnight to enter.

This hotel is the home to the former Cook County Hospital. Its history and renovation makes it a very unique place to stay. There is a small museum that is open daily which documents its rich history.

$30 per night for parking. New hotel, nice bar on second floor.

The staff was super friendly, including the front desk, cleaning staff, and the bartender at the second-floor bar. The hotel is conveniently located to access the UIC West Campus or any of the numerous hospitals and clinics in the area. The room was super clean and reasonably roomy. In typical Chicago fashion, parking is super expensive. There are other hotels in the area that offer cheaper rates per night, provided you are willing to walk a few city blocks. I'm normally disappointed by a "free" hotel breakfast, but this one was really good. A variety of fresh, hot food and healthy options. The hotel lacks bell staff, which would be super helpful considering the parking situation. Additionally, the maintenance staff should be aware that people are sleeping and refrain from yelling at each other down the hallway. It is very disturbing. Other than that, this was a lovely hotel and I will likely stay again in the future.

Disappointed that the bar closed early both nights. Not only did they close but they did not allow us to play pool or the game, watch TV in that area. Made no sense since it was an open area.

The key pass for elevator

The only complaint that we had was that the parking lot was so tight. The people that parked on either side of our vehicle were so close that we had to climb through the back to get to the drivers seat. I don’t know how they got out of their vehicles.

Great looking historic building, good location, largest hallways of any hotel. Only thing I wish... the parking spots were a little wider. They are pretty skinny spots.

Pokoje w systemie Hotels wyglądają na bardzo czyste i zadbane. Niestety ich rzeczywisty stan jest dużo gorszy. Są nie sprzątane rzetelnie. Po trzech dniach próśb o dokładne posprzątanie dostaliśmy w końcu inny pokój który też musieliśmy sami posprzątać by zostać na ostatnie dwie noce. Na osłodę dostaliśmy voucher 30USD do baru - dwie szklanki wina.

Room was unclean there was toothpaste in the shower. A bottle of spray sticking out from under the couch, some sort of toy and candy wrappers as well. Also there was dirty/muddy looking hand print streaks on the inside of the bathroom door. Hairs stuck to the wall by the bathroom sink and around. Sticky spot on the counter/dining table. Reception staff was very pleasant though.

Staff members were nice and polite (front desk and kitchen). Hotel is in good location, close to United Center. Building has history and beautiful architecture. The only issue is housekeeping - two of the plates in the cupboard were grossly dirty (with dried orange sauce stain) and the pillow covers did not smell clean.

Room was dirty, huge brown stain on mattress under sheet, I had to clean the toilet before I could use it!

Pretty nice hotel. Pretty good size rooms. Nice front desk staff. However they assured me they would have housekeeping clean our room and they did not. Coffee maker in room is broken.

The hotel staff did not clean the room or change towels throughout stay although we had requested it

The room was clean, the personnel was very kind and friendly, it was very clean in general and it was near by the train station which is very convenient

The room and the rest of the hotel was pristine and very well decorated. The room had a good deal of amenities (ie. Kitchenette with cookware) especially for the price, and a very nice shower. The hot breakfast buffet had a good variety of options and the staff was very friendly and helpful.

Everything needed in the kitchen was there, location was great, breakfast was amazing, the fitness center had everything you need, and parking, although limited if you return late at night, could not have been better. The staff were always friendly and accommodating and I could see myself staying here again. The reason I deducted the stars was because housekeepers and service people slammed the doors all day on most of my 7 night stay. I’m sure it wasn’t intentional, but I shouldn’t have been the first customer to let them know that walking into a door and letting it slam behind you is loud for everyone else - and they did it constantly. It eased up after I told the customer service person at the front desk, but not entirely, and one morning, I caught them doing it and told them myself. The other issue was that there are no doorman, so when I needed a cart to get all of my luggage down to my truck, no one knew where they were and no one came to help, so I had to figure it out…by myself. I’m not used to that from a hotel. The top floor is layed out a bit weird with a lot of wasted space, but again, overall a good stay and I would highly recommend.

The room had only one small round window that was starting at 5 feet high. You can not see anything. It was like staying in a basement. Even though I book a suite and the front desk said they were giving me a better room, that is what I got and there was no warning. I arrived at 3 pm. My room was not ready. They also gave someone else’s room to the person who was checkin in just before me. Then they were trying to track him down.

This was a pleasant surprise. The room was a really clean little suite with small kitchenette. An old hospital, really cool place.

Staff was very nice and professional! Many amenities and food was great, great location, and good room size. Parking can be confusing, and limited but overall good stay 8.5/10.

Everything was good, but the bed was much too soft. As someone who likes a firm mattress, I got 1/2 my normal sleep

Good for a quick one night stay. Rooms are not sound proof and we heard quite a bit of hallway noise.

The property is quite nice and I like to see creative use of a property that was once something else. That said, the high ceilings combined with the flooring and the VERY heavy doors on the rooms leads to sound carrying up and down the hall very easily and loudly. You can hear people in and out of their rooms at all times, and though I was a fair distance from the ice machine, it sounded as though it was right outside my room. I wasn’t overly impressed with the in-room coffee situation either. My one coffee cup was dirty, and there was one regular coffee and three decaf selections. The sugar and creamer packages were old (the creamer came out in clumps) and one had already been opened.

Very nice stay. Only negative was when checking in our room wasn't ready and we were told we would get a text when it was. We checked our bags at the desk and left to see the city and never got any notice our room was ready. When we got back to hotel around midnight after a concert we had to finish checking in. Turns out the person hadn't checked us in but only held a room for us. If the room had been ready earlier we would have stopped back in to finish check in as opposed to doing it late at night when we're were tired etc.

Staff were amazing! Super helpful, and friendly. Shout of to Mireya for making us feel welcome.

Lost reservation second night

I always stay at the Hyatt in downtown Chicago whenever I’m in town for concerts at the United Center—or really anytime I visit the city. The customer service is consistently excellent, with staff who are friendly, attentive, and make everything easy. The location can’t be beat; getting to the United Center is quick and stress-free. I’ve tried other places, but none compare. This hotel has become my go-to in Chicago, and I highly recommend it.

This is by far one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in. It is beautiful, very clean, and staff are very helpful, especially Mariah at the front desk.

The gentleman who checked us in was extremely pleasant and helpful!

Staff was amazing and went above and beyond. Our favorite was DJ for he made sure we received the right room and was satisfied.

I waited FOREVER (over 5 hours) for my room to be available and had to demand for a MANAGER to get it. No one offered me water!!! I watched other guests being offered right before my eyes…Lovely. I would highly NOT recommend this hotel. Poor customer service from staff (maybe that’s why they don’t wear name tags!) and quality was not great for a highly rated hotel. Don’t let the good reviews fool you!!!

Steven and everyone at the front desk was extremely kind and attentive and gave great advice about where to go, park, get to the L, etc.

We stayed here to attend a concert at the United Center. It was very comfortable and the staff was great.

Had a reservation here, but the area was not great. We parked in front of the hotel and decided not to even get out of the car. The inside might be amazing. We had an event at the United Center, which is very close, but would not have made the walk, especially at night. Chose a nicer area instead.

The room was nice and clean. The shower drain was loud and someone had set the clock alarm to go off at 8 a.m. The breakfast was a little bland and it would have been nice to have bacon as an option.

I had a 7 night stay, my 1st time in Chicago. Lobby was well-maintained, Asian gentleman at the reception was friendly & professional. Room was spacious & well-equipped but kitchen countertop was dirty & I had to clean it myself. Wish there were water dispensers/bottled water provided though. Breakfast was below average, spread was limited & food wasn't great quality. Gym was fantastic. Location was pretty quiet and safe, about 30 mins from city centre, 3-5 mins walk from the nearest metro. Overall had a comfortable stay but probably wouldn't stay again.

Breakfast options were good, however the room was often very crowded and they didn't open the overflow room soon enough. The reception staff were very friendly and attentive. Our room (528) was great but it would benefit from having some hooks - there was nowhere to hang bath towels
