I arrived expecting there to be on site parking as advertised, and was quite surprised to see none available. I checked their website and discovered that they have a parking arrangement with a local Selfridge's car park to offer a £2 discount. I drive to this car park, expecting it to be 4 mins walk away as advertised. It takes me 15 minutes to drive there thanks to the HS2 roadworks, and then when I arrive neither of the two barriers are working so I can't get in. I then spend the next 10 minutes driving around the streets looking for a random parking spot that doesn't look like it comes with guaranteed vandalism (graffiti and trash everywhere). Finally once I'm parked it's a 15 minute walk with my luggage. Needless to say this poor introduction completely ruined my experience and so I will not be staying again.

Was told on answer machine and over the phone by staff to park in selfridges car park. Parked, carried suitcases and bags to the hotel, checked in to be told they wouldn’t recommend parking in that car park as it shut at Midnight. This was at 6:30pm. We checked in, went to our room and walked back to the car. We spent £5.80 getting that car out and then it took us 30mins searching online for another car park and that took 30mins to drive there. By the time we got back it was 9:30pm. This spoilt our experience. It we were told about the car park when called earlier in the day, it wouldn’t had been an issue but spent most of our only night in Birmingham sorting the car out

Great service. Very good location for the Bullring and centre of Birmingham with a wide variety of restaurants close by. I booked this for a meeting and the events service was brilliant. Brakfast and lunch were nice and full refreshments provided throughout the day. Would book here again.

A good stay in a family room to attend theatre last night. Good breakfast. Reasonable bar prices given it’s a hotel. Polite staff. Lots of building work outside hotel, due to tram/ train terminal development, you can’t hear it.

Hotel is advertised with parking available. this isn't the case. Hotel was lovely and room well equipped. Bed really comfy. Bar area lacks atmosphere but food was OK - albeit a little expensive. Breakfast was awful. I'm not a buffet person. Decided against the cooked options as the bacon looked like it had been incinerated and fried eggs were hard. Attempted scrambled egg but was rubbery and tasteless. Coffee was dreadful

We usually request a specific room. On this occassion we noticed what looked like dryed vomit on the wall by the main door, do the cleaners walk around with closed eyes!. So much dust on the top of the very high headboard, this has not been dusted for a very long time, again not conducive to good health for your guests... Also the entrance door looks like it has been forced open at some stage. Apart from seeing the damaged wood, the door does not close or lock properly. Most concerning for any guest. I did inform reception about all of these issues on leaving. Apart from these disapointing concerns, the entire staff, reception, bar, restaurant are all marvellous, smiling happy, helpful people. Incidentially the Guinness at the Clayton is probably one of the best pints in Birmingham. I can see that photographs would have been useful to you, shame i didn't think to take any.

When i arrived my room unfortunately had a dirty razor blade and ribbish left on the bathroom side. When i asked the staff to come and clean they moved me rooms for piece of mind. The staff were so friendly and polite. Honestly thank you for a lovemy stay

Comfortable sleep, lovely shower and decent room. Sadly bed sheets had blood stains on it upon arrival which hadn't been looked at by cleaning team properly. AC was very noisy throughout the night. Towels smelt funky, hairdryer wouldn’t work properly. Room phone was not working either when trying to ring for room service so overall, the stay was a disappointment.

The hotel as a whole was good but the room we stayed in could have done with a deep clean. The curtain was dirty and had a stain, the throw on the bed needed washing as they were aslo dirty. The carpets could have done with a shampoo as there were marks all over. One of the towels looked like they had been used. The staff were very helpful throughout the stay.

The hotel was dirty the floor and walls had stains. The towels also had stains, we complained and recieved new towels which also had stains. We mentioned it the the staff and was told to leave a review about this. The breakfast was nice and the dining area but the hygiene in the room was just so poor.

This should be a lovely hotel. Here's what I found... I stayed there while on business. I arrived at around 8:30pm after a long day. I immediately ate in the restaurant/bar, which was good. Now, the room was "grubby", with stains on the carpet and curtains. The phone in the room did not work and when I picked it up to see if it was plugged in, it was all sticky underneath. There was no WiFi, and as the phone didn't work, I had to run down to reception several times. The staff were pleasant but had no clue about the WiFi, so I couldn't catch up on emails. The bathroom was well appointed, however, the door is cheap laminate and all rotted at the bottom from steam or water from the shower. The bed was clean and comfortable. The following morning I had a "rubbery" English breakfast. The waiter then brought me the bill, although I had paid for breakfast. While it was passable, I would not stay here again.

We were in Birmingham to see Guns N Roses. The hotel was very convenient for the venue and for eating out etc.The only problem was that the air conditioning in the room didn't work which madeit avery uncomfortable nights sleep - but for this I would recommend this hotel without reservation. I really dislike being hot so maybe I am being too harsh.

It was a pleasant stay. For the most part, staff were friendly and helpful. But only 1 bar person who disappeared from time to time, which made getting served a little challenging. No heating in the rooms, but a blow heater was provided, which isn’t ideal for me medically, so, no heating in my room at all.p (January stay) and the desk socket not working. Buffet breakfast was very good. We were a small group of 4 rooms.

Great hotel with spacious and comfortable room. Modern decoration, comfortable bed and pillows. Only minor issue was that some of the chanels on the TV were unwatchable as the signal was so bad. This is unfortunately common in many hotels not just this one. The problem was reported on checkout though. Food at breakfast was good with a decent choice at the buffet. Staff were pleasant and helpful although checking took a while as there was a fairly large party that arrived just before I did, luck of the draw I guess!

Very smart hotel with a nice vibe, however couldn't get the room warm and the shower was a waste of time - just a feeble dribble. After speaking to other guests also on the 7th floor it's clear there's a water pressure problem that hasn't been addressed

Haven't stayed in a hotel before where you could so clearly hear every word the people next door were saying. I think our room had an adjoining door and the guests next to us were awake all night talking and seemed to moving things around which was rattling the door constantly waking us up and making us feel uncomfortable. I understand people are free to do whatever they want in hotels it's more than it felt like they normally use had any privacy.

Great stay overall. Staff were friendly and helpful. Restaurant fish and chips were more like fish and yukas, so they should advertise that on the menu better. Room was clean but the shower had only half a screen door so that was odd. The room had a large wall but small window so it was dark mostly. The beds were also at an odd angle so it was hard to get in between them. The main issue was all the construction happening outside the hotel that made it impossible to park your car for drop and pick up and to access the hotel. And the car park thru recommend was more than t in away, recommend the Moore street on ethanghry don’t tell you about but its closer

This is a good hotel property but it felt like it was being run without staff. Reception was rarely staffed, and when I walked through the bar it was un manned with customers waiting. Those I encountered were friendly and helpful but they were lacking. In particular “in room dining” required me to go to the restaurant to collect an oversized tray which I then had to carry and not drop while operating the lift, getting through card operated security doors on the 7th floor, unlocking my room and activating the lights with my key card.

A really nice city hotel. The room was clean, comfortable and well appointed. All the staff I met were friendly and accommodating. A special meeting for Leila on reception for her kind and welcoming smile. Next time I visit Birmingham, I will choose the Clayton.

Room was fine but I messaged the hotel twice after leaving regarding an item that would have been forgotten in my room and unfortunately they did not reply. Otherwise location is good, although a little bit of hassle woth the ongoing works around.

Modern and contemporary. Room was very clean. Service in the restaurant was great. The young receptionist who checked me out: terrible. No greeting. I gave a greeting. Didn’t get one in return. I gave her my key card and asked for a copy of the Invoice. She didn’t say anything. A simple ‘yes’ would have been enough. Instead she said nothing. Printed it out and handed it to me. Pleasant enough hotel and good location but service lacking - a lot of reception staff who don’t want to notice there are people waiting. Booking was for two nights but after the first day I received a phone call asking why luggage was still in the room. Eventually the person on the phone realised they were wrong, made some excuse of it being on two bookings (it definitely wasn’t!) and sort of apologised but they really should have checked properly before ringing with their accusations. Room good size and really clean but personally didn’t find bed especially comfortable. Quiet enough though and well located with a nice bar

Booked to stay one night. Arrived at 1805 and checked in. At 1945 we received a message that there had been a medical emergency - we had to return home. We checked out at 2000 ... less than 2 hours after arriving. We did not consume anything; we made no mess and created no work for the hotel cleaners. We had pre-paid for two breakfasts, which we clearly would not consume. Despite our situation, the hotel enforced their rules and would not entertain any kind of refund. I fully understand their rules; however, some flexibility and common sense ought to prevail when events overtake the best made plans. We won't go anywhere near this hotel again - we expect better customer service than this.

The hotel is lovely as was our room. The room was spacious and clean. There was plenty of choice at breakfast the next morning. There is work going on in front of the hotel but as we stayed on Saturday night there wasn't actually anyone working there so there was no noise from it. The hotel is walking distance to the shops and restaurants in the city centre. We have stayed here previously and would stay again. Very good value for money.

Very pleasantly surprised by Clayton Hotel. It’s so close to Moor Street Station ( approx 4 min walk). Lovely decor and fittings. Loved additional feature of built-in Bluetooth speaker in bathroom. Staff were fabulous. Prices brilliant. Will potentially definitely use again. Sadly I have already booked elsewhere (non-refundable price point) in Birmingham for an upcoming weekend away with friends but will absolutely consider Clayton for future bookings. The only down side to our stay was having to avoid two substantial piles of faeces in the alley way leading up to the frontdoor - and then being told by a passer by that they were not animal faeces and it’s a common problem there…! 😳 Whilst I know the hotel have no control over what goes on outside, it is pretty grim and could easily put people off.

The area locally while being subject to works because of HS2, was filled with undesirable characters at night, and so walking back late evening was not a nice experience.

Staff friendly. Room good. Hotel nice looking. Great breakfast. Easy walk to Birmingham New Street and Moor Street and Bullring shops. Major building work right outside over quite a wide local area. Quiet at night however.

A pleasant stay. Very comfortable bed. Room clean. Bathroom clean. Breakfast was ok - sausage and bacon over cooked. God central location. Only downside, if being picky, stick an extra couple of pound on the bill and provide enough milk etc in the room. Quite skinny.

The breakfast had lots of choice .staff very friendly and helpful. Issues with rhe room promptly sorted out. Clean comfortable room . Hotel location very good close to centre of town and well serviced with buses.

For what we paid the hotel was not worth it, the deluxe double room is very basic and the bed wasn’t that comfortable. Rooms are dark and the digital heating/lighting system isn’t great. There are building works going on around the hotel too making it a little difficult to navigate. The hotel also isn’t as central as I hoped but that’s an oversight on my part I guess. Staff were ok, not rude but average. Breakfast is mediocre and I wouldn’t have paid for BB had I known this. Nice hotel but a really great 3 star at best.

Hotel is advertised with parking available. this isn't the case. Hotel was lovely and room well equipped. Bed really comfy. Bar area lacks atmosphere but food was OK - albeit a little expensive. Breakfast was awful. I'm not a buffet person. Decided against the cooked options as the bacon looked like it had been incinerated and fried eggs were hard. Attempted scrambled egg but was rubbery and tasteless. Coffee was dreadful

Very comfortable room in a perfectly decent hotel. 2 gripes: (1) kitchen closes at 9.15pm; (2) pitiful water flow from overhead shower rendered it useless - although I told reception, it wasn’t resolved.

The Executive King room was good size, however we were three people (2 adults and 1 toddler)and there was only one set of towels so I had to phone reception to request more. Food is one of the worst I had in a long time, think bad pub level but worse. Fish and chips is very greasy and the meat in the burger is worse than Mac Donald’s one. Ketchup for fries (which were ok) was absolutely disgusting, the worst of the worst. Food quality is terrible and the bill certainly doesn’t reflect that. Service at the restaurant is average, someone had to check whether we were waiting for drinks because the order was taken but not brought to the table- by someone else of course. Shame because location is very central but it’s mostly a business hotel so not a very warm feeling. Not cheap (£170 for one night) so we won’t return.

Staff tried to helped to resolve the issue by providing a heater but this was not helpful as it was still uncomfortably cold. In the end we stayed out of the hotel room due to the cold conditions. We managed to change rooms that had a working climate control this was much better stay.

It just feels a bit sad and soulless! The staff on reception really didn’t care, the aircon in the room is just a glorified fan and there is a lack of amenities in the rooms. Stayed there previously and it was great, but now it’s like they have no money or care for the place. Shame
