Clean modern hotel with attractive decor and well sound proofed considering its central location and just a few minuits walk from the main Railway Station. There was a good choice of evening meals and we had an excellent breakfast. We were also glad to discover that on booking out, we were able to leave our luggage free of charge in a safe area in Recetion and collect later after visiting the City centre .The only negative was that we were on the 6th floor and one of the lifts was out of order on our day of departure. The other lift was extremely busy so we had to use the stairs which could be a problem for a disabled person. Despite this, we would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this hotel.

Hotel listed with "Parking available" - this is not the case. Parking is only available at local car parks and although close by this is considered to be mis-advertised. Rather, it may more accurately specify "car parks close by" or "parking available at car parks close by". Just because this is a city hotel it is not reasonable to expect, as suggested by reception, that guests understand this. Some city centre hotels do have underground/basement parking and availability of parking can be a key consideration when selecting a hotel. We were upgraded from a "standard double" room but what we experienced seemed, nevertheless, rather basic. It was not clear what was additional to what we would expect for a standard room.

They are upfront with not having parking but seriously stretch the truth about convenient parking nearby. The train station has a very small car park with no chance of people leaving as they’ve probably gone on the train somewhere! The next closest one they recommended was .75 miles away. With luggage that’s far! (As there is not an area to drop off luggage in front of the building). Plus overnight parking is going to cost you $35 more a night. So mathematically it would have made sense to stay at a more expensive property with parking. If parking isn’t something you need then staying here isnt bad. Front desk helped get our a/c to work immediately after calling, wifi worked, room was clean. It seems like we were on a more updated floor though (floor 10) so I can’t speak to all the rooms as the other floors looked like they hadn’t been redone in a while Speaking of 10th floor I would have assumed you’d hear no noise but we could hear the party on the street til 1 am. Close to all the shops, arcades, and restaurants and train station.

Used self check in on arrival which was good but staff walked past several times without an hello and we also used self check out and again no goodbye. So we had zero interaction with staff which didn’t appear very welcoming. The window in the room looked into the interior of the building and into other windows so didn’t feel very private. Room has been updated since I last stayed but it still feels quite unmanaged, scuff marks on walls, toilet seat coming of the toilet etc. The whole place just needs that bit more attention to detail.

For a 30th Birthday Celebration, it was really disappointing. I had contacted the hotel prior to our stay to see if there could be any added touches or if we could have 3 single beds instead of a double and this did not happen. Everything in the room was catered for 2 people staying and not 3 as paid for, inc towels, pillows, water, cups etc. The bathroom was also fairly disgusting. Filthy toilet and all around the underneath of the toilet too. Hairs in the shower/bath and generally very unclean. Really disappointed.

The a hotel as a whole wasn’t bad but my room was poor. I opened my bedroom door and was immediately met with the stench of hot fish. Yes, not the most pleasant smell as you can imagine. The bin had not been emptied from the previous person who had stayed in the room and a lobster sausage roll was in the bin with a date of a week old on the front. The smell was awful. I removed the bin from my room where they removed it but didn’t provide a replacement? Ok good start. The sides in the room were very dusty with the top of the tv I was able to run my fingers through a thick layer of dust. The towels were brand new and you could tell due to lots of white cotton being in my hair after drying off from the shower! The room itself was okay and the bed was comfy. I think with recognition of the faults with my room I would be happy as a paying customer but it seemed not much fuss was given. Overall an average stay for the price and left disappointed with my overall experience.

This is hands down one of the worst hotels I’ve ever stayed in. It claims to be 4-star but its facilities are more like a 1-star, and certainly not worth paying more than £30 a night (I paid 4 times that amount!!). The second I opened the door to my room, the entire room stank to high heavens from the dampness. Even with AC turned on, it didn’t help the smell go away. Clearly noone has stayed or cleaned the rooms thoroughly as dust was everywhere. There was zero ventilation in the toilet. The toilet smelled so bad I have never experienced anything like it. I told the reception about the awful smell, and they acted very nonchalantly, claiming to have sprayed some air fresheners yet the smell never went away during my stay. Clearly there is bacteria somewhere otherwise there’s no way it would smell this bad. I wanted to vomit every time I entered the toilet! Not to mention, the fridge has no power so the food I stored inside has gone bad cause there was no cool air. Please send a hotel inspector to check this place cause it certainly should NOT be operating in such a dirty condition! And I think under this unlivable condition I should have been offered some kind of refund and compensation. I already told the hotel my concerns but no one wanted to take responsibility for this. This hotel has totally ruined my image of Cardiff. I won’t be coming back after this time.

Well i was quite disappointed to be given a room that looks dirty, dust everywhere and hair on the floor as if the latter has not been hoovered.. Upon bringing the situation to the manager, he upgraded us to an executive room. I was again faced with a dusty room and now with a wobbly toilet seat which was later fixed but still felt same. I was very disappointed as i felt let down by the hotel knowing that we are paying quite a lot for the stay.. The really need 2 work harder on the cleanliness of the room. The staff was very warm and friendly.

Lifts can be annoying as you feel like you are waiting forever and when the doors open it full, this goes on and on in the mornings and it irritated the life out of me. Also the shower, it was just fixed and unable to remove it from the wall, hence not being able to rinse soap off with ease.. Staff were lovely Breakfast was good but no fried eggs!

We had an internal room and found it very Claustrophobic asked a lady in reception if we could up grade the room as I didn’t like we didn’t have much of a window. We couldn’t fault them they moved us room with no issues to a very large corner room with double windows .. so helpful the room was amazing Also had sky and coffee machine Supper clean room Would highly recommend this hotel

Booked a Deluxe Double Room for 1 night (Saturday). We were allocated a corner room on the 4th floor over looking St Marys Street and Custom House Street. The room and bathroom were clean and both very good sizes. We had complementary water, tea / coffe and very randomly 1 can of fizz and 1 two finger KitKat! The downside of the room, the windows did not shut properly therefore didn’t have a good sleep due to the nighttime economy and the amount of noise coming from the venues / streets. The air condition automatically turned off at midnight due to the hotels sustainability programme therefore the room was very hot and unbearable. Overall, given the price we paid for the room we were disappointed with not having a good nights sleep.

The lifts were temperamental in that you would select floor 8 in our case and it would take you somewhere else. This happened several times and we had to use the emergency stairs. The breakfast items were not well cooked. The bacon was almost boiled. Overall the service looked understaffed amd quality of food was lacking. The room felt very cramped and the bed was not the most comfortable. We had to wait for almost an hour for toilet roll that never arrived. The reason for this was the staff were very busy.

Outstanding stay. Hotel less than two minute walk from station. We were on the 9th floor with amazing views and could watch the trains from the comfort of the armchair. Excellent bar area/restaurant. The staff were all very friendly and knowledgeable of their City. Shout-out to our waiter, Liam, who gave us very good recommendations when we visited the bay area.

Perfect location. Rooms being closer to train station and lively streets were surprisingly quiet. It was within walking areas you want to go for food and entertainment. The staff was very friendly and wanted to make sure our stay was good. It was very clean beds and pillows were comfortable my main priority after location and cleanliness. Love the chain.

We are regular visitors to the clayon hotel and always enjoy our vist, but have to say we were very dissapointed this time around. Firstly 20 minutes late checking in which we understood as things can get busy. The next morning however we were woken by 8am with a staff member entering the room, then a phone call 10 minutes later we were woken again by the reception phoning asking to confirm our booking at which point we decided we may aswell just get up and crack on with the day. Then the next day we asked to leave our cases to which we were told it wasn't possible due to current work taking place, which would be understandable if i hadn't rung to check before hand that it would be possible to leave our luggage after checkout. This then meant we had to cancel our last day of plans as we couldn't take our luggage in the places we were meant to visit. We also had the staff members outside our door talking and laughing for close to an hour from 8am on the second morning which again woke us earlier than attended. It was a very dissapointing visit for somewhere which was a firm favourite of ours while visiting cardiff.

Great location walkable from central train station. We were there on a Sat so note that it is very lively on the Main Street with students. Found a back street that was not as intense and had a lovely meal. 20min walk to the harbour. 5min walk to the castle.

Stayed previously at the Clayton and was happy to book again. Unfortunately, things have changed for the worse. Room, in particularly the bathroom were looking very tired. Breakfast was chaos, not enough staff. Servery was not closely monitored, as items were not replenished when they ran low, but were allowed to run out. I spent a long time waiting for orange juice, bread for toast, bacon and there weren't even any plates. With a number of new hotels opening close by, Clayton needs to up their game, to be competitive.

The hotel is situated very centrally, with easy access to the city centre. The mattress is THE MOST comfortable we slept on in hotels recently! We had a very restful night followed by a nice breakfast in the restaurant with a lovely city view.

Same as always. I specifically booked an Executive Room because, on my previous stay, I was given a ridiculously small 4ft 6in bed. I had previously been told by a member of staff that the Executive Rooms had larger beds, so I booked one on that basis. Unfortunately, the Executive Room I was given this time also had a 4ft 6in bed. When I queried it, another member of staff told me that all rooms have 4ft 6in beds, which directly contradicts what I had previously been told. So there appears to be some confusion over what is actually meant to be different about the Executive Rooms, and I booked the room specifically because I was led to believe it would have a larger bed. Breakfast still hasn’t been improved. The continental selection consists of little more than sandwich filling ham and cubes of cheese. It’s hilariously sad.
